Abstract:
We aimed to assess the quality of charcoal from three Eucalyptus and Corymbia citriodora species for energy production in the South of Tocantins state. A hybrid Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis, the species Eucalyptus urophylla, Eucalyptus camaldulensis, and Corymbia citriodora were selected for the study. In the preparation of the material, 20 specimens of each species with the dimensions of 2.0 x 2.0 x 5.0 cm were made, being ten repetitions for each carbonization gait with different final temperatures and heating rates. The basic wood density, total gravimetric yield, total yields

Abstract Eucalyptus is planted worldwide for raw material in paper and rayon industry. It is a potential out-crosser and the natural populations are highly heterogeneous displaying strong inbreeding depression. Eucalyptus hybrids have been intensively utilized for their vigor, higher wood quality and resistance to diseases. Identification of species for hybridization is predominantly based on morphological characters and is not always reliable. Hence, DNA marker based species identification and hybrid validation is an important and efficient tool in breeding programs. In the present study, att

The white grub of Exopholis hypoleuca (Wiedemann, 1819) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae: Leucopholini) is a known pest of several crops on Pacific Islands. This insect was observed feeding on the roots and shoots of Corymbia citriodora (Hook.) K.D. Hill & L.A.S. Johnson and Eucalyptus L'Hér. (Myrtaceae) plants in Aek Nauli, North Sumatra, Indonesia, which triggered its study. Management strategies of white grub are necessary to be developed because C. citriodora and Eucalyptus are largely planted in Indonesia for production of paper, pulp and viscose materials. Chloroplast capture through hybridisation and introgression is well described within Eucalyptus. Despite the propensity of the Corymbia genus (eucalypts) to form hybrids from wide crosses, description of chloroplast capture in Corymbia has, until recently, been limited. In this study our aim was to investigate evidence of intersectional chloroplast capture between sections Torellianae and Maculatae. Using whole-genome next-generation sequencing data, the complete chloroplast genomes were assembled from four Corymbia taxa: Corymbia citriodora subspecies citriodora (Hook.) K.D.Hill & L.A.S.J

This work characterizes the wood from Corymbia citriodora for pulp production. We evaluated wood chip samples from an 8-year-old C. citriodora plantation. A sample of Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla chips from a 7-year-old plantation was used as reference material. Wood fiber morphology and chemical composition were analyzed. A modified kraft pulping was carried out to achieve kappa 18 on brownstock pulps. After that, pulps were oxygen delignified, and then underwent elemental chlorine free (ECF) bleaching to achieve the target brightness of 90±0.5% ISO. The bleached pulps were refin

Abstract: The objective of this work was to estimate cardinal temperatures and phyllochron for the leaf development of the eucalyptus species Corymbia citriodora and Eucalyptus urophylla, in the seedling phase. A field experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a 2x11 factorial arrangement, with the two eucalyptus species, 11 sowing dates, and five replicates, in the municipality of Itajubá, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The cardinal temperatures - base, optimum, and maximum - for leaf development were, respectively, 8.7, 17.1, and 41.3°C, for C. citriodora, and 1
