Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM) is applied to find the critical buckling load of the Euler columns with continuous elastic restraints. HAM has been successfully applied to many linear and nonlinear, ordinary and partial, differential equations, integral equations, and difference equations. In this study, we presented the application of HAM to the critical buckling loads for Euler columns with five different support cases continuous elastic restraints. The bifurcation of equilibrium of a compressed transversely isotropic bar is investigated by using a three-dimensional elasticity formulation. In this manner, an assessment of the thickness effects can be accurately performed. In the present investigation, the buckling behavior of Euler–Bernoulli nanobeam, which is placed in an electro-magnetic field, is investigated in the framework of Eringen’s nonlocal theory. Critical buckling load for all the classical boundary conditions such as “Pined–Pined (P-P), Clamped–Pined (C-P), Clamped–Clamped (C-C), and Clamped-Free (C-F)” are obtained using shifted Chebyshev polynomials-based Rayleigh-Ritz method. The main advantage of the shifted Chebyshev polynomials is that it does not make the system ill-conditioning with the higher number of terms in the approximation due to the

This work aims to study the compressive buckling and consequent blowup of jointed concrete pavements due to thermal rise. For this purpose, a simple and effective mixed FEM, originally introduced for performing static and buckling analyses of beams on elastic supports, is extended for performing a preliminary study of jointed concrete pavements. An elastic Euler–Bernoulli beam in frictionless and bilateral contact with an elastic support is considered. Three different elastic support models are assumed, namely a Winkler support, an elastic half-space (3D), and half-plane (2D). The transversal

This paper reviews the phenomenon of the steady tilt of a semisubmersible from the point of view of the theory of bifurcation. The problem is similar to that of the buckling of an elastic structure, with the wave amplitude playing the role of the critical load. Depending on the wavenumber, the bifurcation can be "subtle," as in the case of a Euler beam, or "catastrophic," as in the case of shells and arches. Experimental results on a simplified submerged structure show very good agreement with the theoretical prediction from the viewpoint of second-order wave theory.
