Wound healing remains a significant clinical challenge, especially in chronic and infected wounds that require targeted, sustained drug release. This study reports the development and characterization of a dual-responsive (pH and temperature-sensitive) chitosan-based hydrogel encapsulating.  Eupatorium odoratum leaf extract, known for its potent antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties (Chavez & Martinez, 2015; Gonzalez et al., 2016). Chromolaena odorata (Syn: Eupatorium odoratum) is a perennial plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. Extracts of C. odorata have shown strong anti-oxidant and moderate anti-adipogenenesis activities. Detailed phytochemical investigation of C. odorata led to the isolation of 21 secondary metabolites, which include a new flavanone (3), and a chalcone, 3,2′-dihydroxy-4,4′,5′,6′-tetramethoxychalcone (2), reported for the first time from a natural source, besides three known compounds 1, 4 and 5, all of which are reported for the first time from C. odorata. ABSTRACTThe germinable seed bank of the colonizing weed Eupatorium odoratum was studied at the University of Ghana's Agricultural Research Station, near Kade. Five sites representing different successional stages were selected: a closed-canopy forest; intermittent-canopy forest; secondary forest; agricultural land; and a burnt forest. Twenty-five soil samples (each 500 cm3; 10×10×5 cm) were taken at random in each site, to be used for germination experiments. The secondary forest site had significantly more seeds of Eupatorium odoratum (8428 seeds per m2) than any of the other four sites. In t
