Abstract:
This work is devoted to outline the practices of sustainable tourism development. The article gives the social, economic and environmental consequences as result of the unsustainable and chaotic tourism development. The author investigates the feasibility of sustainable development. Based on the international research and declarations forms of international organizations, this article elaborates the problems in interpreting the terms of “green economy”, “sustainable tourism” and various forms of rural tourism. The article discusses the main problems and the potential for sustainable development of rural tourism based on European experiences. In addition, it identified and justified the necessity of clustering of rural tourism products. The researcher attempts to explain the role of a stakeholder groups in the structure model of the national rural tourism cluster based on the principles of sustainable development. Hence, the goal is to preserve the environment systematically and participatory, leading to gaining socio-economic benefits. This experience is appropriate for supporting the transition towards a green economy sustainably.

Abstract:
The analysis of the concepts of application of the cluster approach has been carried out. Criteria are identified that summarize the content of the considered concepts and the types of relationships in the cluster that affect the creditworthiness of its participants. Based on the selected criteria, the advantages of clustering are grouped, which should be taken into account when lending. The grouping of these advantages made it possible to identify areas of practical application of the cluster approach. To improve the efficiency of the value chain of agro-food products, the clustering tools used in European practice are disclosed. Based on the systematization of the advantages of applying the cluster approach and the European experience, clustering tools that are acceptable in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus and favorably affect the result of lending are proposed.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of empirical research on welfare magnetism and to assess the size and scope of the welfare magnet effect on the non-EU migrants in selected immigration countries of the European Union. Design/methodology/approach A conditional logistic regression model with interactions is used to estimate the strength of the welfare magnet effect, while controlling for demographic characteristics of the migrants and country-specific economic indicators. Data, used for estimation, comes from the Immigrant Citizen Survey, which provides a large, representative sample of first-generation (i.e. non-EU born) migrants. Various measures of welfare generosity are tested to assure the robustness of the results. Findings The coefficients suggest that the welfare magnet effect is present and significant in some immigrant groups, although it can have a negative impact on location decisions in other cases. Similar results are obtained for wage and unemployment indicators. Research limitations/implications Results corroborate the welfare magnet hypothesis, which states that more generous welfare states should expect greater clustering of negatively-selected (i.e. lower educated) migrants. One potential limitation comes from the sample size, which does not allow for more general conclusions. Practical implications Heterogeneous effects of basic economic indicators in different demographic groups show that aggregate immigrant flows, used widely in the literature, can provide biased estimates of welfare magnet effect. Originality/value This paper adds to the available literature by using representative, recently collected data and employing a more complete list of controls in a quantitative analysis of migration decisions.

Abstract:
The study of various aspects of social economy is stipulated by the fact that the focus of any economic system is the human being as the main object and the result of economic activity. The purpose of this paper is to cluster of social economies of the countries throughout the world with distinguishing the models of social economy for transition economies under globalization conditions. The results of research represent four clusters of social economy that prove validity of classification of 4 classic models of social economy: liberal, Scandinavian, corporatist, and Mediterranean. While the most developed countries have effective models of social economy, there is still no clear concept of social development for transition economies. This paper deals with social economy clustering of different countries with the view to determinate the place of transition economies in social metrics of global economy. Our study is limited to the number of countries – 40 countries of the world, mainly European, and timeframes – 2015 and 2016. The obtained results could be taken into account by governments when developing and implementing new social policy for transition economies considering the experience of countries with classical social models. The authors propose the main practical tools for transition social model. It is proposed to distinguish one more model of social economy – the transition model, typical for transition economies that implement social reforms and has some common features.

Abstract:
COVID-19 and Russia’s war against Ukraine have created many challenges for the business models of SMEs, stimulating them to develop alternative forms of business. Among the key alternatives, one should single out digitization. However, imperfections of Ukraine’s state support system for digital transformation necessitate adapting the positive practice of leading countries with excellent business digitalization. Therefore, this paper structures the practical experience of state support of European countries in the digitalization of SMEs. The study conducts a cluster analysis to identify countries whose experience in state support for business digitalization is the best for adoption. Clustering employed the criterion of using key digitization instruments: internet of things, integration of business processes into electronic processes, digital integration with customers/suppliers, cloud services, big data analysis, and artificial intelligence. Thus, 4 clusters were identified (the first cluster comprises 16 countries, the second – 2, the third – 5, and the fourth – 7). These findings contributed to the selection of some key measures. They included: expanding the financial capabilities of SMEs to adopt digital technologies in their processes; formation of digital hard skills among entrepreneurs and increasing the personnel potential of SME digitization; creation of a favorable business environment to stimulate the digital activity of SMEs; and popularization of business digitalization strategy as a component of digital transformation strategy in society.

Abstract:
The development of social entrepreneurship has required new effective management approaches and tools. The authors refer to European experience and standards in the field of project management in order to develop a methodological approach to organizing project management for achieving the outstanding results in social entrepreneurship projects. The article presents the results of the quasi-experiment aimed to identify differences in the achieved results among projects using the European PM2 methodology and projects carried out within the PMI methodology. The assessment technique developed by the authors is based on EFQM model. No significant difference among the project results in the experimental and control groups has been found, which indicates the importance of applying the project management methodology, regardless of its origin. By clustering project results, it was found that projects adapted the European methodology were more focused on strategic development and integration into the ecosystem on the principles of long-term cooperation, while the projects of the control group paid more attention to the effective organization and coordination of processes, resources and activities.

Abstract:
VALEURTECH is a pilot project under the European Commission's Leonardo II programme. It includes 35 partners from higher education institutions and professional organizations in eight European countries and has the major objectives: of (a) setting up a homogeneous ‘labelling’ process, such as a diploma supplement, based on a common reference system for skills and a harmonized assessment procedure, so that experience acquired in a professional situation abroad becomes explicit and more easily assessed; and (b) setting up a database which will give students useful information to prepare themselves for their professional placement in one of the partner countries' firms. To achieve these objectives, a questionnaire was organized for firms to identify the relevance and weight of each skill. More precisely, the questionnaire focused on the composition of the professional profile (qualifications and capabilities) that the students should have in three industrial sectors: informatics, civil engineering and manufacturing. This paper concentrates on the informatics and manufacturing sectors. The results are assessed using hierarchical clustering analysis to compare the answers in seven European countries.

Abstract:
The exacerbation of the shortage of financial resources in the current global challenges has necessitated increased efficiency in the financing of higher education institutions. Along with the increase in funding, diversification of sources and transformation of funding mechanisms for higher education systems have become topical issues. The study attempted to identify the internal structure of public funding for higher education in Europe concerning funding mechanisms. According to the results of clustering of European countries based on coverage of the population with higher education and public spending on higher education by one undergraduate, eight clusters were identified, four of which are unique and contain one country (Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Luxembourg). Four other clusters cover countries with: incomplete public funding for higher education; state protectionism in the financing of higher education; specific forms of state funding for higher education; strategic state priority in financing higher education. The general patterns of financing higher education in European countries, the experience of expanding funding sources, efficient use of financial resources and granting autonomy to universities, which can be taken into account in the process of higher education reforms in countries with transformational economies.

Abstract:
Climate change has various impacts on society, but future changes are uncertain and a wide gap remains between the scientific knowledge and societal action (mitigation, adaptation). The gap in climate adaptation was partly addressed by the recent growth of climate services, but their local usability is associated to many barriers. France is an example of lacking climate adaptation at territorial level, and this thesis focuses on the Gulf of Morbihan as a case study. My research aims first to identify the role of climate change in the territory, second to support the local development of adaptation planning, and third to explore future climate change through the angle of clustering approaches. To identify the local role of climate change, I analyze the literature (grey and academic) and engage in field interviews with various stakeholders. Particular features of the territory emerge: the coastal-inland contrast (economy, demography), the socioeconomic life organized seasonally, and the dependence and conflict between agriculture and tourism. The local role of climate change is complex, impacting emblematic activities (oyster farming, salt production), overlapping with existing issues (socioeconomic imbalance, land-use conflict), and affecting agriculture negatively (warmer and drier summers) but tourism positively (longer summer weather). The local experiences are generally consistent with scientific knowledge (ongoing changes, link to climate change), although some elements are scarce in local perceptions (heatwaves). To assist local adaptation, I participated to the experimentation of different foresight activities (scenario workshop, art-science exhibition, conference-debate) with local stakeholders, based on an assessment of climate services and on creative art-design tools (e.g. poker design cards). The main outcomes are two long-term scenarios, multiple short-term actions and several hinge points on which the scenarios depend. The two scenarios represent divergent visions of the territory: continued occupation of the coast despite increasing risks, or withdrawal from the coast and densification of urban areas inland. The scenarios depend on the issue development of urbanization and spatial planning, food and energy autonomy, and demographic balance. The theme of food and energy autonomy concentrates conflicting views between inhabitants, highlighting fears and desires about long-term territorial choices. My investigation of the territory highlighted several climatic themes (e.g. seasonality of weather conditions) that are linked to atmospheric circulation, but future circulation changes are highly uncertain. To investigate the future seasonality of atmospheric circulation, I classify year-round patterns of geopotential height at 500 hPa (Z500) from a reanalysis and several climate models. Despite their biases, climate models reproduce similar evolution of circulation seasonality as the reanalysis. During the last decades, winter conditions have decreased while summer conditions have increased, and these changes strengthen under future climate change. Yet circulation seasonality remains similar relatively to the increase in average Z500, and the same happens for surface temperatures associated to the circulation patterns. I additionally developed the perspective of a new approach to study the local evolution of weather seasonality, based on the classification of multiple variables (temperature, precipitation, windspeed). In addition to the effects from future climate change, the Gulf of Morbihan will probably welcome new populations, and an active collective strategy of adaptation is required. Several routes have been featured in my research to address the local needs in climate adaptation, including perspectives inspired from existing climate services in other countries. The findings from this thesis highlight the physical and social dimensions of climate change

This thesis is based on the theoretical knowledge derived from the European integration experience to conduct a comparative study between the EU and ASEAN. This thesis investigates how endogenous factors affect how exogenous factors influence the EU and ASEAN institution building process within the European Single Market and ASEAN Free Trade Area. It argues that ASEAN members' domestic political interest and national preference formed within their cultural context as a result of their informal institutional economic cooperation. The thesis reviews literature and finds that the European model cannot be simply applied to ASEAN, thus a combination of new regionalism and liberal intergovernmentalism seeks to contribute alternatives to different aspects in the analysis of ASEAN regional integration.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis examines the extent to which Mercosur member states can establish a common approach to regional development, and what Mercosur can learn from the European Union experience of regional development funds. Through an extensive statistical analysis this thesis maps and profiles regional disparities in Mercosur in order to expose the nature and scale of the regional development challenge faced by the region. It argues that the creation of a Mercosur Regional Development Fund (MRDF), although not the sole solution, is one way forward towards the reduction of regional disparities. The thesis then proposes a theoretical framework which can be employed to account for prospective policy transfers between two supranational associations such as the EU and Mercosur. A critical analysis of the EU regional development fund experience leads the thesis to propose that there are some key EU principles which Mercosur can apply. Finally, the thesis discusses the objectives and main characteristics of a MRDF in terms of how it might best address the needs of the Mercosur less developed regions.

Sessions, John G. "Unemployment, earnings and absence : British and European labour market experience." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 1998. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/2274/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis comprises five chapters that together offer some contribution to the economics of unemployment, earnings and absence. Chapter One: Unemployment Stigma investigates the implications of an occupational hierarchy on labour market behaviour. The ideas developed are applied, firstly, to a model of the wage curve where it is shown that the relationship between unemployment and pay may be upward slopping over some range; and secondly, to a non-shirking model of efficiency wages where the potential for multiple labour market equilibria is highlighted. Chapter Two: The Economics of Absence investigates the relatively neglected issue of worker absence. The Chapter reviews and offers some perspective to existing studies of absence, develops a theoretical model of absence that incorporates both the supply and demand aspects of the employment relation, and sets out an empirical analysis of the relationship between absence and labour supply. Chapter Three: Absence and Profit Sharing explores the relationship between employee sharing and worker absence using data from a panel of 127 French firms over the period 1981-1991. The results suggest that both profit sharing and employee share ownership schemes are associated with significantly lower absence, the extent of the decline depending crucially upon whether or not the schemes operate exclusively of one another. An interesting question also emerges concerning the relationship between contractual flexibility and absence behaviour, the empirical analysis suggesting that a more widespread use of part-time contracts may act to reduce the incidence of absence in firms operating profit sharing schemes. Chapter Four: U.K. Unemployment profiles the incidence of unemployment in the U.K. over the period 1985-91 by quantifying the differential probabilities of unemployment faced by particular groups within the population. The results indicate that, even after controlling for a plethora of demographic characteristics, regional disparities in unemployment risk are prevalent. Chapter Five: Trade and Trade Unions examines the effects of international trade on the employment and earnings prospects of a sample of U.K. workers. The Chapter develops a model of international oligopoly with generally unionised labour markets which suggests that an increased exposure to trade is more likely to impact negatively upon the wage (employment) prospects of workers the greater (lesser) the degree of union bargaining power to which they are subservient. The empirical analysis in the Chapter offers substantive support for this proposition.

Abstract:
Within the EU region the EU member states, by discarding their right to exercise fiscal and monetary policy independently, have signed up to a set of rules and regulations that will eventually lead to European and Monetary Union (EMU). These set of rules as reflected by both the Maastricht criteria as well as the Stability and Growth Pact, contain no reference to either the unacceptable levels of European unemployment or the balance of trade position. The ensuing wave of criticism directed at the motivation as well as the rationale behind such a stringent set of rules and regulations has caused a lot of uncertainty to emerge as to what the future of such an economic venture would be. The primary objective of this thesis is to investigate the existing problem of European unemployment within the new economic environment that emerged after the demise of Bretton Woods and most crucially after the ratification of the Maastricht Treaty. Further, it develops an alternative demand-based macroeconomic framework on the basis of which the undertaken econometric analysis provides evidence in support of our approach. In particular, by examining the way macroeconomic policy has evolved after the demise of Bretton Woods and questioning the premise with which the new economic orthodoxy has established its authority in euroland, we review the current position of EMU countries in relation to the convergence criteria. It is argued that the deflationary bias in conjunction with the institutional arrangements peculiar to an independent European central bank (ECB) undermine the potential of future economic policies to deal with persistent levels of unemployment. Moreover, it is sustained that the absence of a strategy tailored to stimulate economic activity together with the underlying deflationary nature implied by convergence criteria, may be potential factors that contribute to the perpetuation of high levels of unemployment. Lack of demand in conjunction with the prevalent instability in the labour markets have harmed productive efficiency and most importantly the creation of additional capacity on which employment could be encouraged. Therefore, a case for policies designed to boost aggregate demand is made. In pursuing our objective, a post Keynesian macroeconomic framework provides the theoretical underpinnings on which the empirical investigation is based. On the methodological front, panel data analysis is applied to EU countries. The results obtained suggest that unemployment in Europe is a by-product of economic policies devoid of any measures to affect demand as well as supply factors. Moreover, on the basis of the evidence, the deflationary bias that characterises the EU economies especially after the ratification of the Maastricht treaty appears to have dampened economic activity and hence employment in most EU member states. Some further investigation into the rationale behind the introduction of the Stability Pact yields additional evidence casting considerable doubts on two of the most fundamental reasons put forward in defence of the Stability pact, namely the fear for interest rate spillovers across the EU economies and the significant role of national savings in conditioning investment. Finally a concluding chapter provides some alternative policy recommendations.

Abstract:
xv, 97 p. A print copy of this thesis is available through the UO Libraries. Search the library catalog for the location and call number.
Emotion experiences such as internalized distress have been described mostly in European Americans and adults in the psychological literature and less in Asian American children. Associations between emotion experience and expressivity have been established mostly through samples of European American children. Finally, the functionality of emotion experience and expressivity across cultural norms has not been examined thoroughly, especially in ethnic minority or bicultural children. This is of concern given that cultural ideals for emotion differ across cultural groups. This dissertation incorporates a cultural perspective to understanding the emotion experience while also relying on the functionalist approach as an organizing framework to understand expressivity in children from an Asian background. This study examined 70 Chinese American and 71 European American mothers and their 5 to 7 year old children. Mother and child reports of children's internalized V experience were obtained. Observers also rated children's expressivity in a frustration- eliciting task, alone and in the presence of their mothers. The first objective of the dissertation was to characterize the emotion experiences of Chinese American and European American young children, in particular, internalized distress. The second objective of this dissertation sought to observe children's expressivity in response to a frustrating situation, with and without their mothers. As a whole, Chinese American children experienced greater internalized distress than European American children based on mother and child reports. Contrary to hypotheses, Chinese American children were just as expressive as European American children during the frustration eliciting task, especially when mothers were present in the room. Furthermore, it appeared that European American children with greater child-reported anxiety and mother-reported depression showed less increase in their expressivity than all the other children when their mothers entered into the room. This study explored the role of culture in the socialization of emotion and the functionality of expressivity in solitary and social situations. Overall, this dissertation suggests that cultural, situational, and internal emotion experience are factors which concurrently play a role in children's emotion expressivity.
Adviser: Jeffrey Measelle

Abstract:
AbstractResearch on segregation is traditionally associated with studies on residential segregation and the patterns of spatial clustering of minority ethnic groups or residents with immigrant backgrounds. This chapter examines European research on spatial segregation through various social science disciplines, including urban studies, sociology, psychology, spatial and human geography. It presents the range of theoretical approaches employed to explain why people who belong, or are perceived to belong, to dissimilar social categories or to hold different identities become spatially separated from each other, and ways in which this may change. Factors that influence segregation are interrelated. A holistic, interdisciplinary approach to spatial segregation is, therefore, essential to understand such mechanisms and then design policies to counter any negative impacts of segregation. Individual and group experiences are shaped by varied contexts, whether residential, work, leisure, transport and daily encounters. This chapter examines approaches to spatial segregation from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and indicates possible directions for future research.

Abstract:
Purpose – Hosting conferences has always been of crucial importance for the development of the pre and post-seasons of some destinations in Croatia. Considering that students are becoming the most frequent conference participants, the authors recognized the need to measure their memorable conference experience (MCE). Methodology – To this aim, a questionnaire was created, based on the relevant scientific literature, and distributed online and onsite. Research was conducted among 108 students of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija. Findings – This research examines key factors in creating MCEs for students, who could recall their previous memorable conference experience. Exploratory Factor Analysis was performed first, followed by the hierarchical clustering method and regression analysis to determine significant clusters among participants and their influence on behavioural intention. The results indicate that affectively loyal participants are more likely to show their behavioural intention, in comparison with affectively non-loyal participants. Contribution – The findings suggest essential implications for the tourism experience theory and for future conference organizing committeeswell.

Abstract:
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">As the automotive industry increasingly shifts toward electrification, reducing vehicle drag becomes crucial for enhancing battery range and meeting consumer expectations. Additionally, recent regulations such as WLTP can require car manufacturers to provide reliable drag data for vehicles as they are configured, as is the case in Europe. Vehicle and tire manufacturers can assess tire impacts on vehicle performance through testing. However, to improve designs, it is essential to identify which tire features influence the flow field and overall vehicle performance. Physical tests measure tire behavior under load, but isolating contact patch and tire bulge effects is difficult, as both change together. Simulation allows independent analysis of these factors—something that physical testing alone cannot achieve.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper investigates the aerodynamic impact of realistic tire deformation parameters—specifically, bulge and contact patch deformations—using PowerFLOW® from Dassault Systèmes ®, a Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) based CFD solution with an Immersed Boundary method (IBM) to model a deformed rotating treaded tire. The standalone tire setup used in this study was validated against experimental results in prior research. To further assess the impact of these deformations on vehicle drag, simulations were repeated using the generic automotive DrivAer model. Given the complexity of the flow features in a tire wake, the study employed a combination of analysis methodologies, including Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and a vortex tracking algorithm based on the Gamma 2 criterion and single-link hierarchical clustering.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">The results demonstrate that bulge deformations tend to have a strong wake interaction with the vehicle ultimately affecting its drag, while contact patch deformations can show either purely local effects on the tire or a more complex mix of both local effects and wake interactions.</div></div>

Federico, Veronica, Giovanna Spano, and Maria Moulin-Stozek. De-Radicalisation and Integration Policies and Best Practices at the European and Cross-Border Level. Glasgow Caledonian University, 2025. https://doi.org/10.59019/wncj5s72.

Full text
Abstract:
The report aims at comparing policies and best practices as emerged among the D.Rad consortium gathered in Work Package 4. In particular, it includes the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Finland, Slovenia, Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Türkiye, Georgia and Austria. The adopted methodology clusters policies by common traits and strategies in tackling radicalisation. This represents a reversed approach in comparison with the methodology adopted in the WP 4 Comparative Report (D4.2). In the latter, the analysis of the legal and policy frameworks of D.Rad countries has shown quite diverse backgrounds and political choices, also due to national contexts and their history of extremist trends and movements.1 Hence, we relied on general patterns which could allow the clustering of such different backgrounds, instead of selecting specific national experiences. In this report, we have been able to identify two main common approaches guiding domestic policies.

Full text
Abstract:
The so-called "European model" of market integration has evolved over many decades. In particular, the original plan to integrate Europe economically via a progressive program of harmonizing national legislation has, particularly in the area of financial markets, given way to a radical alternative based upon Member State "mutual recognition" of existing national legislation and regulation. Whereas this shift had been initiated largely on pragmatic grounds, the mutual recognition approach has since taken on an ideological and strategic dimension in political negotiations which makes the study of its effects on the ground all the more important.

Abstract:
Digital technologies can boost regional and sectoral productivity, yet firms in Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries are experiencing shortfalls in digital uptake and innovation. This is partly due to a scarcity of knowledge suppliers able to respond to the region's or countries' diverse needs. Digital innovation hubs (DIHs) can offer a collaborative, location-based approach and address these gaps. This study analyzes data from over 300 DIHs in Europe, revealing that university-affiliated DIHs offer sophisticated services, such as collaborative research and testing facilities, while industry-affiliated DIHs focus on activities closer to the market, including mentoring and ecosystem building. Three case studies show that establishing a DIH is not achieved overnight but is instead a learning and improvement process; that a DIH evolves in response to regional needs and assets; and that DIHs require reliable funding for their development, particularly public financing, in their early stages. Hence, LAC policymakers should take in to account the need for a context-sensitive, context-adaptive strategy when promoting DIHs as a tool for public policy. Voucher programs and regional policies for productive development, such as smart specialization strategies, could also refine and mobilize the demand for specific digital technologies, facilitating the establishment of DIH-type initiatives.
