Eight of these share a common background as satellite states of the former Soviet Union and today three more are candidate countries for an EU membership. There has been a rising awareness in recent years of the gender inequalities within STEM-related programmes and the need to overcome them and so bridge the gender gap in these academic disciplines. Different initiatives have arisen, among which there are gender equality policies, regulations and programmes. The topic of gender audits in labor law is relatively heterogeneous in the European states. While in Iceland, gender audits are a common part of labor law culture, in the Slovak Republic it is a new phenomenon that has no basis in legislation. In the article, the author deals with the essentials of a gender audit as well as its use in labor relations in order to achieve equality in payment and a way to fight pay gap.
