Abstract:
This dissertation addresses several normative questions about tax competition between the European Union Member States. My answers to these questions are part of a wider way of thinking about justice in the EU. I maintain that this economic phenomenon should be regulated in order to of protect a social minimum within each Member State and to protect the fair value of citizens’ political liberties. I distance myself from proposals which seek to stop countries from being able to affect each other through this form of competition. In this vein, the dissertation analyses and rejects a given propos

In its attempt to analyse the impact of East European change upon the European Community and East European liner shipping industries this thesis covers an extensive range of highly topical subject areas. The wide range of non uniform information gleaned from the research and the question of spurious objectivity form the main arguments behind the use of qualitative rather than quantitative assessment throughout. The diverse study area also necessitated a narrowing to the case of Polish Ocean Lines' North Atlantic operations to enable a meaningful analysis to be carried out. The early part of th

Abstract:
This study evaluates the fitness of political parties for the democratisation of the European Union. At the national level political parties have successfully functioned as transmission belts between voter’s preferences and political outcomes in representative democracies. Some scholars have therefore argued that an increase in party competition at the European level could make the European Union more democratic; other scholars claim that European political parties are too weak to fend off public pressure, which would arise from an increase in political competition. Abstract:
This research study investigates the effects of the process of European monetary integration on the investment performance of European commercial real estate markets. In particular, it addresses the question of whether European monetary integration has produced convergence in the performance of European office markets. Different dimensions of convergence are analysed in terms of whether there is growing similarity in terms of causation of market change, market timing and market levels. The study uses data from both the non-securitised and securitised real estate sectors.
