Abstract:
Eustoma (Eustoma grandiflorum), also called lisianthus, belongs to the family Gentianaceae and is cultivated for flower production globally (1), including in Korea. At least 10 viruses can infect eustoma, including Cucumber mosaic virus (genus Cucumovirus), Tobacco mosaic virus (genus Tobamovirus), Tomato spotted wilt virus (genus Tospovirus), and Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV, genus Begomovirus) (1,2). In December 2012, disease symptoms such as leaf curling and stunting were observed on eustoma plants grown in Gumi, Korea, where TYLCV outbreak was reported on tomato farms. In a eustoma

An experiment was conducted to measure the effects of pulse treatments of BA, sucrose, and BA before, after, or with sucrose, on the vase life of cut Eustoma flowers. A BA pulse at 50 mg·L-1 before 4% sucrose promoted the longevity of cut Eustoma flowers better than other treatments. Simultaneously, sucrose, glucose, and mannose concentrations in flowers during vase periods were maintained at higher levels in double pulse treatments than in the single pulses. Ethylene production in flowers 2 days after vase treatment was highest in the BA-treated flowers; intermediate in flowers pulsed with BA

Eustoma (Eustoma russellianum) is an economically important cut flower in Taiwan. Each year more than 1.7 million dozen flowers, mainly exported to Japan in the winter, are produced in greenhouses. In January 2011, eustoma plants with stem and leaf blight symptoms were observed in some greenhouses in Changhua County, Taiwan, at an incidence of 2%. Brown and rotten lesions were presented on the stem and nearby leaves, with white mycelia growing on the surface and black sclerotia (up to 7 mm long) produced inside the stem. Infected plants were completely blighted and eventually died. Diseased st

Abstract:
Stunted vegetative growth and delayed or absent flowering are commonly observed in eustoma (Eustoma grandiflorum) when cultivated continuously in the same greenhouse soil. These effects are likely caused by the excessive accumulation of soluble salts and/or phytotoxic organic acids in the soil. This study aimed to clarify the mechanism of continuous cropping obstacles and formulate prevention measures of eustoma. Seedlings of eustoma ‘Croma III White’ were grown hydroponically with 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% (full), 125%, 150%, 175%, or 200% strength of Johnson’s solution. Plant height, leaf area
