The pervious pavement system has been identified as an effective source control device capable of removing urban stormwater pollution by trapping pollutants within the system and biodegradation. Recent studies have further demonstrated that the pervious pavement system could be used as a source of renewable energy capable of reducing household energy bill by about 80%. In view of ever increasing demand for water and the continued reduction in available fresh water resources in the world, stormwater has been recognized as a potential valuable source of water which could be harnessed. This study provides an analysis of earthquake hazard in the Middle East for insurance and reinsurance purposes. The analysis incorporates important lessons learned from the 1985 Mexican earthquake. This has highlighted the strong influence of superficial geology in controlling exposure to earthquake hazard, and of building type and height in controlling vulnerability to damage; b) An analysis of the escalating earthquake risk in the Middle East. It is concluded that this is attributable to rapid rates of pop

Abstract:
Part I and II of this thesis constitute a theoretical and practical approach on how to open up a laboratory for remote access and enabling students to have access to the equipment 24/7. Part I covers a more general solution for enabling remote access to equipment; the suggested solution can be applied to all types of instruments that can be controlled from a PC based system. Part III and IV of this thesis present an encouragement to collaborate within in the field of remote engineering to utilize the recourses more efficiently. The idea is that universities around the world can share their exp

Abstract:
This study examines the congruence of teacher evaluation practices in the L.D.S. Church Educational System with the institutionally stated purposes for which teacher evaluation is to be conducted. Specifically, this is a qualitative study that utilizes the "grounded theory" approach (Glaser; Strauss, 1967) in the analysis of 10 in-depth interviews of Released-time Seminary teachers of the L.D.S. Church Educational System. Interviews transcriptions of teacher perceptions regarding teacher evaluation practices provided the basis for data analysis and interpretation. Abstract:
The main goal of this thesis project is to identify interesting concepts related to cooling of electrical motors and generators which could be evaluated using suitable computer simulation tools. As the project proceeded it was decided to focus on investigating how the air from a fan flows along the finned frame of a general purpose low voltage electrical machine, how the heat is transferred between the frame and the cooling air and what the temperature distribution looks like. It was also investigated if it is possible to make improvements in the effectiveness of the cooling without adding add
