Full textEvar is a project degree of 22,5 ECTS credits individually carried out by André Runling during the spring of 2012 at Karlstad University, for a bachelor degree in Innovation technique and Design engineering. The assigner for this project is Johan Larsvall, industrial designer and owner of Idesign in Stockholm. Academic supervisor at Karlstad University has been Lennart Wihk, industrial designer and university lecturer. Examiner has been Fredrik Thuvander, professor and university lecturer. Idesign is a design agency with office on Longholmen in central of Stockholm and is assigned by different companies in different sectors such as, Silva Sweden AB and Trafikverket. Idesign got the task from Trafikverket to make suggestions to concepts of bike lights that increase the use and reliability compared to todays use. The project was initiated by Trafikverket while Idesign were responsible of developing a bike light to Silva. Silva has specialised themselves in head lamps for many years and have seen an opportunity to reach a new market with the collaboration, which resulted in this degree project and development primary to Idesign. The projects first part was to study what is inadequate in today's lighting and why it is not used as much as it should. The study was conducted with a poll and discussions on Swedish forums on the internet. A large part of the project was to compare why the usage looks different and is used more often in Denmark, and also Germany. Germany has a detailed approval of bicycle lights in their traffic regulations which was needed to be interpreted. Using the information gathered, a development of concepts started to a bicycle light that exudes simplicity and appeal to a commuting cyclist, with the idea generation method and product specification which was evaluated in a matrix. Of three concepts that were presented to Idesign, one concept was selected for further processing which developed into a final proposal and description of a bicycle light. The final solution means that the head lamp is powered by a battery, and notifies with a battery indicator when it needs charging, directly into a electrical outlet. With a simple single-hand grip it’s connected in the bracket and, in its turn a buckle, which is mounted steplessly on the bicycle by a strap. It means it can be mounted on any bicycle. While the rear light is supposed to always sit on, have the same type of installation and have an automatic on and off switch via a light and motion detector. It still has a battery indicator to se when batteries should be replaced. Both the front and the rear light is equipped with LED for lighting.

The development of new methodologies in the field of road engineering has been a concern, aimed to the improvement of the quality of paved roads making them safer and more durable. Some innovations introduced in this area have been practiced with the application of modified asphalt binder (AB), demonstrated to improve asphalt binder performance, contributing to the reduction of the formation of wheel tracks and of thermal cracking. In this study, the Brazilian asphalt binder from Fazenda Alegre oil reserve was modified by virgin ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), residue of the industry of footwears (EVAR) and coir fiber (CF). Additives, such as the cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) and extensor oil (EO) were used to improve the compatibility of the mixture. The polymer and additives were characterized by means of infrared spectroscopy, termogravimetry and diferencial scanning calorimetry. The evaluation of the spectra FTIR of the binders after simulated aging in RTFOT, showed that the modified binders with EVAR and EVA/FC were more resistant to oxidative hardening, probably due to the presence of the additive, in the composition of the residue, such as the calcium carbonate. The termogravimetry curves of the modified ABs presented behavior similar to the pure binder. The rheological properties were also evaluated by tests with the viscometer and the dynamic shear rheometer (DSR). In general, ageing causes an increase in stiffness and viscosity, however the master curves indicated that the effect of aging is most significant in the intermediate to high temperatures and increases the elasticity along the spectrum of frequencies. The zero shear viscosity (ZSV) obtained by the models of Cross and Williamson was higher than the Carreau model. In addition atomic force microscopy (AFM) images were obtained in the showed that the EVA polymer sweeling suggest that part of the maltenic fraction of the binder was absorbed by the polymer. For the binder modified with EVAR, the mixture showed good stability only after the addition of the extensor oil. The presence of CNSL and EO improved the thermal susceptibility of the modified binders.

Full textEndovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) is a mini-invasive technique that is commonly used to treat Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA). It relies on the exclusion of the aneurysm sac by introducing one or more stent-grafts through the femoral arteries and deploying them inside the aneurysm. During the procedure, several tools of varying stiffness are introduced to enable the delivery of the stent graft to its deployment site. During this process, the vascular structure undergoes major deformations. Usually, these have no consequence on the smooth progress of the procedure. However, in some instances, particularly when the patient presents an unfavorable anatomical profile (major tortuousness or angulation, deep calcification, long length of the common and external iliac arteries), the deformation caused by the insertion of stiff guidewires can have major consequences. Today, their prediction relies mainly on the surgeon’s experience. Numerical simulation appears to be an appropriate tool to give the practitioner more objective and more useful indicators when planning the procedure: guiding the surgical act and making it safer using such an approach would potentially reduce the risks of intraoperative and postoperative complications. In the first step of the work, we developed a mechanical model of the aorto-iliac vascular structure and a simulation methodology to answer the mechanical problem. This patient-specific model has been parametrized based on available preoperative data. Then the second step of the work consisted in the validation of this model by confronting the simulation results to real intraoperative 3D data that were collected on 28 cases of patients operated at the University Hospital of Rennes. All the methods that were developed during this PhD were integrated in demonstration module of EndoSize® software (Therenva, France)

Full textObjective: To assess the clinical utility of follow-up with CT-scan at 1, 6, 12 and 24 months after endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm (EVAR) and its correlation with aneurysm-related findings of complications, secondary procedures, reinterventions and morbimortality. To assess the requirement of follow-up depending on the neck anatomy of aortic abdominal aneurysm (AAA). Method: A retrospective study of patients who underwent EVAR with aortic endograft. Recruitment period: January 2006 to December 2013. Inclusion criteria: Patients with elective placement of aortobiliac endografts. Exclusion criteria: Other types of devices, hybrid techniques and open surgery. Variables registered: Complications, reinterventions, secondary procedures, morbimortality. Imaging study: Preoperative CT-scan standardised according to institutional protocol, repeated at 1, 6, 12 and 24 months postoperatively. Descriptive analysis was used to assess continuous variables; categorical variables were analyzed calculating proportions and frequencies. Statistical data assessment was conducted with χ² or Fisher test and t-Student. Kaplan-Meier and Log-Rang test were used to assess the distribution of endoleak- and reintervention-free survival, sac expansion, graft patency and mortality. Statistical significance was set at ≤ 0.05. The SPSS package was used for statistical analysis. Results: 127 patients with AAA (96.8% males). Mean age: 75.89 years (range 51-90). Mean diameter of aneurysm: 62.08mm (±14.16mm), 52 patients with hostile neck (40.9%); 62 patients with associated iliac aneurysm (48.8%). Technical and clinical success: 100%; 30-day mortality: 0.8%. Follow-up at 6, 12 and 24 months: 97.6%, 96.1% and 93.7% reintervention-free rate; overall survival: 97.6%, 96.7% and 91.3%, respectively. CT-scan at 1 month (125): 1 type Ia endoleak (0.8%), 23 type II (18.4%) and 2 increased diameter ≥5mm; 2 reinterventions (1 type Ia and 1 type II). CT-scan at 6 months (57): 1 type Ia endoleak (1.8%), 11 type II (19.3%) and 0 increased diameter; 1 reintervention (1 type Ia). CT-scan at 12 months (119): 2 type Ia endoleaks/migrations (1.6%), 1 type Ib endoleak (0.8%), 13 type II endoleaks (10.9%), 0 increased diameter. CT-scan at 24 months (105): 4 type Ia endoleaks/migrations (3.7%), 1 type Ib endoleak (0.9%); 10 type II endoleaks (9.1%); 2 sac growths. The cumulative rate of proximal sealing zone-related complications according to neck anatomy at 1, 6, 12 and 24 months were: favourable neck: 0, 0, 0, 1.3%; hostile neck: 1.9%, 5.2%, 6.1%, 7.7%, respectively. No differences between neck anatomies were found in reinterventions or mortality. Conclusions: Globally, postoperative CT-scans detected complications and requirement of secondary procedures to ensure correct sealing. Nevertheless, no such complications were detected at 6 and 12-month CT-scans in patients with favourable necks, even in the presence of type II endoleaks and could therefore be omitted; but hostile necks may compromise proximal sealing and require regular imaging controls.

The main objective of this dissertation is to investigate the impact of accruals on the corporate earnings variability (EVAR) results that influence the practical application of income smoothing in Brazilian capital market firms. Initially, it approaches the importance of financial statements that must be evidenced in compliance with accounting principles generally accepted. Its disclosure should represent the reality of the economic-financial firm to the process of decision-making of shareholders and creditors. But at certain times, managers are motivated to practice the earnings management in an attempt to reduce the variability of profits through the use of accruals. The accruals represent the difference between net income and operating cash flow. In the process for reducing results volatility managers use the practice of income smoothing that represents a smoothing of profits, reducing any distortions in the market price of the firm. In this study, the sample is formed by a group of 163 capital market firms listed on Bovespa and presenting financial information in the period 2000 to 2007, categorized by sector, using data obtained in Economática. The statistical model used for this research was the regression analysis in order to explain the different cross-sectional models. These survey results indicate that accruals are significant to explain the EVAR of Brazilian companies. Our results suggest that the identification of structural model corporate earnings variability (EVAR) in Brazilian companies should be evidenced by non-financial variables that differ from those made by U.S. firms.

Full textMy Sweet Pet For Ever aims to raise awareness to all people who have a pet so that your memory is memorable. The services are aimed at pet lovers in general, providing advice to each of them in what they are: funeral ceremony, cremation, burial and psychological support. There are different packages according to the economic scope of each owner and we will have strategic partners for burial and cremation. The service begins with a transportation unit that will pick up the funeral mascot at the place of his death, then go to the place where the funeral ceremony will take place, followed by the transfer to the burial place if the family wishes, if necessary. otherwise, an urn will be delivered with the ashes of their pets, the service is basically to give a decent end to the pet.

Learning is an often given explanation for why social networks improve performance. For example, a closed network allows individuals to identify and share best practices and to coordinate joint problem solving and each is conducive for learning. Despite the widespread belief that networks affect learning, there is little direct evidence linking social networks to learning. And opposing network features are often emphasized. While some scholars have emphasized the importance of closed networks, others have highlighted networks that span structural holes, a network form that encourages divergent thinking and creative problem solving. Without direct evidence, we do not know if social networks affect learning, and if they do which network forms are most conducive for learning. We analyzed learning rates across 45 teams that varied in terms of how team members were allowed to communicate with each other. All teams exhibited evidence for learning but teams in open networks learned faster than teams in closed networks. The best teams, however, combined elements of open and closed network structures. We discuss the implications of our results for research on networks, knowledge transfer, and learning.

The utilization of residues of the footwear s industry, especially E.V.A. residues(Ethilene Vinil Acetate) in the Civil Construction Industry has been the focus of the researches. It is known that such residues can be used as artificial aggregates instead of natural aggregates in the production of lightweight cement composites. The focus of this research is the mechanical conduct of EVA blocks (normal dimensions) isolated and applied in prisms and masonries. The EVA block was also evaluated in real scale in LABEME and compared with a soil-cement prototype and theoretical results. Tests of horizontal impacts and interactions between masonries and others elements of the building( abrupt shutting door tests and suspended pieces effects in walls) took place. Based on the results, the conclusion is that it is possible to propose blocks with 60% of EVA aggregate, substituting natural aggregates in volume, having a minimum resistance to compression over or equal 1,0 MPa (in Laboratory molding), that are confirmed compatible with the non-structural function. Thus, it s believed that the perspectives for the viability of the utilization of this residue in the manufacture of blocks for civil construction are very good. This will certainly contribute for a double reduction of negative impacts in the environment, as long as it offers an alternative destiny to such residues and a consummation reduction of natural resources (sand and hail), promoting the sustainable development for the activity of civil construction.

Full textIn this research, the types of risks involved in the credit operations of multiple banks which operate in Brazil were observed. The profitability of those banks with relation to the allocated capital to face the risks taken was also observed. The RAROC model was considered as a consistent performance measurement since it represents a return measurement in relation to the capital risk. Such a fact gets stronger when the recommendations of the Basel Committee are considered, through the accord known as Basel III. Nowadays, the banks operating nationally are going through a transition period for the implantation of the recommendations which are in the Basel III. Based on the Committee´s recommendations, this study verified the RAROC of the four largest banking institutions which operate in Brazil, taking into account the total of the assets, respecting the pre-requirement of having stocks negotiated in the open market of the BM&FBOVESPA. In this study, different methodologies for the Calculation of the RAROC are approached, making use of the valid legislation and of the implantation legislation in Brazil due to the Basel III for the calculation of the capital base of the banks. The RAROC was defined by the minimum capital requirement as the benchmark model, so the benchmark model was compared to other RAROC models to perceive if there are significant differences among the methodologies; no significant differences were found among the methodologies. The benchmark model was consistent to the point that it was used for the Calculation of the EVA of the banks chosen in the sample for the researched period. Although the use of the RAROC for the calculation of the EVA is not usual, this study shows that the result obtained with the RAROC calculation can also be useful in verifying the EVA of financial institutions.
