Abstract:

This dissertation explores the work of Colombian writer Evelio Rosero (1958), whose work-like many of his nation's generation, but with a radically new aesthetic and ethic proposal—focuses on violence and on the disappearance of people in the context of the armed conflict that has ravaged Colombia for the last thirty years.

Despite having a long and consistent literary career that started in the early eighties and having received prestigious awards, Rosero continues to be almost unknown both nationally and internationally. My dissertation contends that such lack of recognition is serious and that current conversations about Colombian literature and the representation of violence more broadly cannot be done without taking into account his disruptive work. Through a careful analysis of Rosero's most representative novels—Señor que no conoce la luna, En el lejero and Los Ejércitos—I examine the literary techniques the author uses to produce a space—both literary and political—that neither justifies nor exacerbates violence.

Based primarily on the concept of the spectral put forth by Jacques Derrida in Specters of Marx, on Mieke Bal's position on political art and on Jean-Luc Nancy's construction of rebellion in Noli me tangere, I demonstrate how Rosero's novels highlight the discourses and mechanisms that put into place and even sanction the violence they supposedly lament.

The dissertation is divided in three chapters. Chronologically organized, each one examines one of Rosero's most representative novels.

In the introduction I contextualize Rosero's literary work within the larger efforts to represent Colombia's violent situation. I argue that by focusing on disappearance, ambiguity and spectrality Rosero avoids the most common and problematic pitfalls of such texts. I take the position that by doing so Rosero gives visibility to the many ways in which a state of violence is (re)produced and represented -both aesthetically and politically—signalling a complicity (not necessarily deliberate) between the two.

The first chapter analyzes Señor que no conoce la luna. I argue that by focusing in the way los vestidos enslave and torture los desnudos due to their dual genitalia, Rosero shows the artificiality and arbitrariness of our social constructions and highlights how they are used to infringe extreme violence to a particular group of people. I contend that in the unregulated circulation of erotic desire Rosero finds a way out of this structure of abjection.

The second chapter deals with the radical "spectralization" that takes place in En el lejero. I take the position that Rosero's emphasis on the difficulty of identifying people and spaces, and his refusal to stabilize meaning are effective tools in dismantling a system of oppression and violence while opening a space for agency and solidarity.

The third and last chapter studies Rosero's most famous novel, Los Ejércitos. I read the novel's contrast between moments of intense visibility and instances of extreme obscurity and confusion as a way to underscore the violent nature of certain ways of looking at things and people. Rosero's insistence in our bonds with, and responsibility towards, what can no longer, not yet, be seen or heard is key to create a space for the political that is not based on violence and exclusion.

To conclude, I argue that through Jacques Derrida's "impure impure history of ghosts" Rosero develops an aesthetically astonishing and politically crucial way of re-counting and accounting for the violence that a prolonged state of warfare continues to (re)produce in Latin America.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the ways in which the diegetic spaces of the manses and convents as portrayed in two Colombian novels, Casablanca la bella (2013) by Fernando Vallejo and En el lejero (2007) by Evelio Rosero Diago serve as scenarios for the representation of the violences that pervade contemporary Colombian society. It shines a light on the ways in which these violences assault the senses and leave their mark on individuals and collectivities. It follows the novels in their wanderings through the topohistoric and phenomenological milestones of the interminable Colombian civil war—The 'Violencia' and its sequels. It explores how these violences and the corollary traumas and affects generated by them interact with these spaces and their toposociohistoric context to generate and reconstitute collective memories. Finally, it focuses on how the narrative spaces and the memories they foster and generate may feed the process of re-construction or re-formulation of a stable national identity for contemporary Colombians.

Estratégias coreográficas no processo artístico de Marcelo Evelin é o tema central dessa dissertação. Para tal, embasa-se em análises e reflexões sobre a operacionalidade do corpo e da dança abstraindo-se de um pensamento dualista. A pesquisa apresenta os processos que envolvem criação compartilhada nos processos criativos em dança como pressuposto necessário de inúmeras possibilidades e resultantes de contaminações e trás a hipótese no exercício de demonstração/observação de como arte e ciência dialogam concomitantemente. Um estudo construído e reflexivo sobre os modos de construção da dança que indica a relação simultânea entre fazer e aprender/fazendo. Um exercício que se organiza a partir da dança que se vê que se ouve e que se fala. Para elucidar os modos de organização de diversas informações em dança selecionou-se: Mini-residência: Itens de Primeira Necessidade, MONO, BULL DANCING, CARTAS DE AMOR e A MULHER GORILA. A investigação desse objeto é construída a partir do conceito de co-evolução (Richard Dawkins) em diálogos com a neurociência (Antônio Damásio) que esclarecem a funcionalidade e os procedimentos da natureza do corpo agregando a noção de sistema dinâmico (Jorge Albuquerque). Na continuidade desse diálogo agregam-se teóricos da Dança a exemplo de KATZ, GRIENER. As pesquisadoras Adriana Bittencourt Machado (2001, 2007) e Fabiana Brito (2008) aproximaram a teoria/criação promovendo entendimentos entre diferentes modos de entender/dialogar a dança e o corpo que dança.

Son oeuvre la plus celebre est brideshead revisited. Nous l'avons analysee dans cette these car elle traite sous forme de roman du probleme de la foi au sein d'une famille catholique en proie a toutes les vicissitudes de notre temps. Dans une premiere partie biographique, nous avons suivi l'auteur tout au long de sa vie, dans sa famille et parmi ses amis, dans le contexte du siecle. Nous avons tente de tirer un portrait de l'auteur qui nous est apparu comme un homme anarchique et debauche a l'encontre de ses convictions et de ses pratiques religieuses. Evelyn waugh est ne dans une famille anglicane, pieu dans son enfance, agnostique dans sa jeunesse et finalement converti au catholicisme en i930 a l'age de 27 ans. Des lors, il fait de sa foi l'essentiel de sa vie, sans toutefois reussir a se comporter comme un saint. Il n'a jamais cesse d'ecrire; ses romans et recits de voyages sont brillants et captivants. Nous avons choisi d'analyser ses ouvrages d'apologie, temoignages de sa religion. Si evelyn waugh a reussi a nous convaincre de la sincerite de sa foi il n'a pas pour autant modifie son mode de vie contraire aux preceptes de sa reli♭ gion. Il demeure un grand prosateur, un brillant humoriste, admire du monde litteraire.

Esta investigação trata dos eventos artísticos como pedagogias culturais na Educação em Visualidade. Situa-se no encontro entre a virada da visualidade na educação e a virada pedagógica na arte. No marco das pedagogias culturais procura-se compreender como e em que condições o evento artístico pode ser ao mesmo tempo um evento pedagógico e de que maneira se instituem os espaços que promovem eventos educacionais como experiências estéticas em base à ideia de experiência estética de John Dewey e de evento pedagógico de Dennis Atkinson. As discussões que se desdobram destas reflexões se relacionam principalmente à área curricular e metodológica da Educação em Visualidade, mas se relacionam também com a filosofia da educação, os Estudos da Cultura Visual e as tendências contemporâneas na arte. Dessa maneira apontam-se as bases conceituais que permitem distinguir o espaço de interseção entre a arte e a educação contemporâneas e suas implicações políticas e culturais sob o conceito de arte participante de Claire Bishop e a proposta de pedagogia cultural de Henry Giroux que confluem no principio político de emancipação no ponto de partida, de Jacques Rancière. O objeto de estudo são artistas e educadores em visualidade que concebem a arte como um evento pedagógico e a pedagogia como um evento artístico. Nesse sentido analisa-se e problematiza-se o cruzamento de fronteiras tanto na arte como na educação e criam-se possibilidades de uma pedagogia de dissenso por meio de uma metodologia de Investigação Baseada nas Artes, IBA, em base a duas perspectivas, a perspectiva A/r/tográfica que integra teoria, práxis e poética e reflete sobre as identidades em trânsito de artista, pesquisador(a) e professor(a) e a perspectiva da prática transcognitiva de Graeme Sullivan que considera as múltiplas formas de investigar dos artistas. Nessas bases conceituais e metodológicas aproprio-me do conceito de Objetos de Aprendizagem, OA, que responde a políticas de homogeneização da educação para convertê-lo em Objetos de Aprendizagem Poéticos, OAP, que respondem a políticas emancipadoras de educação em geral e da Educação em Visualidade em particular, onde os estudantes, de maneira similar ao que acontece com os espectadores contemporâneos da arte, se tornam participantes. Para este efeito observo e analiso a criação de OAP para o ensino das artes visuais realizados por participantes de um curso de extensão sobre Objetos de Aprendizagem Poéticos, promovido pelo VIS/IdA, através do DEX-UnB, dirigido a professores de arte e estudantes das licenciaturas. Os resultados das análises das experiências dos participantes que aplicaram os OAP produzidos em contextos de educação evidenciam que as coincidências entre as viradas se dão no plano político por meio da emancipação do espectador, no plano metodológico por meio do foco sobre o papel da visualidade na construção do conhecimento e no plano existencial pela forma como construímos os territórios de subjetivação.
This research is about artistic events as cultural pedagogies on Visual Education. It is situated within the encounter of the pictorial turn in education and the pedagogical turn in art. Given the cultural pedagogies framework we seek o understand how and in what conditions the artistic event can be, at the same time, a pedagogical event in its own terms and how the spaces to promote educational events as aesthetic experiences are established, based on John Dewey's idea of aesthetic experience and Dennis Atkinson's pedagogical event. The unfolded discussions from these reflections are also related to educational philosophy, Visual Culture Studies and contemporary tendencies in art. In that manner we point out the conceptual foundations that allow us to distinguish the intersection space between contemporary art and education and its political and cultural implications under Claire Bishop's participatory art concept and Henry Giroux's cultural pedagogy proposal that converge on Jacques Rancière political principle of emancipation from the starting point. The objects of the study are artists and visual educators that conceive art as a pedagogical event and pedagogy as an artistic event. In that regard, we analyze and problematise the border crossings in art and education and create the possibilities for a dissent pedagogy trough an Arts Based Research, ABR, methodology, within two perspectives, the A/r/tographic perspective that integrates theory, praxis and poietics and reflects over transit identities of artist, researcher and teacher and Graeme Sullivan's transcognitive practice perspective which considers the multiple ways in which artists research. On that conceptual and methodological framework I take possession of the Learning Objects, LO, concept, which responds to educational hegemonic policies to turn them into Poietic Learning Objects, PLO, which responds to educational emancipatory policies and to Visual Education policies specifically, where students, in a manner similar to the contemporary art spectator, turn into participants. For that purpose I observe and analyze the creation of PLO for visual education, produced by the participants of an extension course about Poietic Learning Objects, promoted by the VIS/IdA, trough DEX/UnB, aimed at art teachers and graduation art education students. The results, drawn from the analysis of the participant's experiences that applied PLO produced in educational contexts, show that the coincidences between the turnings are given in the political level trough the emancipation of the spectator, in the methodological level trough the attention over the visual role in knowledge construction and in the existential level trough the ways in which we construct territories of subjectivation.

As mudanças sociais influenciaram no aumento da importância do dano. Atualmente o elemento exerce o papel central na responsabilidade civil. Pode haver responsabilidade sem culpa, mas não há responsabilidade sem dano. A observância de que a noção jurídica de dano não coincide com a comum favoreceu a compreensão de que o dano, mesmo sendo um fenômeno unitário, tem dois aspectos relevantes. São os dois momentos de sua ocorrência: dano-evento e dano-prejuízo. Tanto um como outro são resultados da conduta, mas suas características são completamente diferentes. O dano-evento consiste na lesão a um direito subjetivo ou a uma norma protetora de interesses. Devido a essa característica, verificada a sua presença a contrariedade ao direito estará presente mesmo nas hipóteses de responsabilidade objetiva. O dano-prejuízo é a conseqüência. Poderá ser patrimonial e não patrimonial, individual e social. Com esses conceitos claros, inúmeras questões são resolvidas, como a prescrição, o dano social, o verdadeiro conceito de dano moral, a competência na ação de reparação e a perda de oportunidade. Quanto ao dano não patrimonial, verifica-se que é gênero, sendo o dano moral uma de suas espécies. O dano social é uma nova categoria que visa abarcar uma lacuna na reparação civil.
Social changes have influenced the increasing importance of the concept of mischief. Nowadays this element represents the central role in the civil liability. It can exists liability without fault, but there is no liability without mischief. The observance that the legal notion of mischief does not coincide with the common notion has favored the comprehension that the mischief, even being an unit phenomenon, has two prominent aspects. The moments of its occurrence are two: mischief-event and mischief-damage. These moments are results of the conduct, but its characteristics are completely different. The mischief-event consists in the aggression against a subjective right or against a protective norm of interests. Due to that characteristic, once detected its presence, the offence against law will be present even in the hypotheses of objective liability. The mischief-damage is the consequence. It can be patrimonial and nopatrimonial, individual and social. Having in mind those concepts, many problems can be resolved, as the prescription, the social mischief, the true concept of moral mischief, the competence in the action of repair and the loss of opportunity. With regards to the no-patrimonial mischief, it can be verified that it is a genus, being the moral mischief one of its species. The social mischief is a new category that aims to fulfill a gap in the civil reparation.

Cada vez mais se fala em eventos, sobretudo em planejamento e organização de eventos. Mas será que este tema se reduz apenas a novos procedimentos e técnicas de gestão? Esta pode ter sido uma exigência do mercado mas, quando o tema se converte em disciplina acadêmica, há que se ir mais longe. Assim o objetivo do presente trabalho é preencher algumas das lacunas existentes e enriquecer o universo acadêmico, propiciando elementos que possam facilitar futuras pesquisas. Esta pesquisa levanta a hipótese de que os eventos podem ser estudados sob novos ângulos: como contraponto do cotidiano, remédio ao tédio da vida cotidiana; como produto secularizado da festa tradicional, percorrendo o caminho que partiu do interior do templo, na Antiguidade, passando pela praça ao lado da Igreja, nas Idades Média e Moderna, transformando-se em negócio na sociedade contemporânea; como religião, ou melhor, como uma modalidade de experiência religiosa; como droga, vale dizer, como forma de alteração do estado de consciência; como investimento de festividade e imaginação, mormente no movimento e nos excessos de comida, bebida e, no evento comercial moderno, de cenário; e como meio de comunicação, como instrumento de que a sociedade dispõe para fazer ouvir os movimentos sociais coletivos e os novos arautos. A metodologia utilizada é a do ensaio, que permite a análise do tema, através do recorte das contribuições de estudiosos da antropologia, sociologia, história, geografia e filosofia, selecionados a partir de contribuições específicas capazes de trazerem luz às hipóteses mencionadas. A pesquisa conclui que todas as dimensões estudadas são interdependentes, visto que seus elementos se entrelaçam e se complementam mutuamente, formando uma espiral dinâmica que gera relevantes transformações e novas posturas individuais, bem como diferentes acomodações sociais, por ser a sociedade seu principal receptáculo e consumidor.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the obstacles and motivators Evelyn Thompson Lawrence addressed in her thirst for lifelong learning and desire to share that learning through her life stories. The researcher also sought to understand how everyday events played a role in the outcome of Lawrence's life. More than just observing major events, the researcher considered ways the smallest moments made an impact on Lawrence's continued desire for learning. This study evolved through Lawrence's accounts. By allowing this African American woman, who was a lifelong Appalachian, to explore her past and present, a wide array of experiences emerged that would provide a more holistic view of a lifelong learner. The interviews with Lawrence were both video- and audio-taped to ensure proper acquirement of Lawrence's life stories told in narrative form. In addition to the interviews, Lawrence provided numerous primary documents such as awards, photographs, news clippings, and books to add a deeper dimension to the portraiture. To verify the information Lawrence provided, three subjects who had connections with Lawrence in specific areas of her life were interviewed. The interviews from this qualitative research with Lawrence and the secondary subjects were transcribed, coded, and considered for emergent themes. Three distinct areas appeared as the portrait of Lawrence's life was painted through her life stories: her connections to her family, her profession and academics, and her community. Through this research the researcher recognized that history was a factor in motivating Lawrence to become a lifelong learner, and there was a connection between research results on the characteristics of lifelong learners and the characteristics exhibited by Lawrence. Her desire to acquire knowledge, both formal and informal, continues to this day. Future studies might include provisions for the needs of the lifelong learner and the importance of looking at the individual's life in its entirety as a means for determining how best to nurture a love of learning as an adult. Throughout this research it became apparent that the adult could find meaning from the past and motivation for the future through life stories.

Contributing to the dynamic debates in current modernist scholarship, particularly concerning the so-called interregnum between high modernism and postmodernism, exterior modernism refers to the work of a group of younger writers, such as Evelyn Waugh, Ernest Hemingway, Henry Green, Christopher Isherwood, Anthony Powell, Elizabeth Bowen, and Patrick Hamilton, whose departure from high modernism took the form of an ‘outward turn’ privileging exteriority over the interiority of consciousness through foregrounding talk and drawing on cinema, comedy, and satire. Relating their work to other exterior modernists, I focus mainly on Waugh by way of exemplification, considering his oeuvre, non-fiction as well as fiction. This thesis is the first book-length systematic study of Waugh’s relationship with cinema; such a relationship is crucial to the emergence and development of his exterior modernism. To illuminate Waugh’s exteriority, I develop an interdisciplinary framework, informed primarily by distributed cognition. Chapter One discusses Waugh’s first short story, ‘The Balance’ (1926), and his last comic novel, The Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold (1957), to demonstrate a movement of circularity in Waugh’s fiction. Part One compares ‘The Balance’ with Woolf’s Jacob’s Room (1922), arguing that both writers turned to cinema in search of their unique literary voices. Part Two examines Pinfold’s successful rewriting of the early story by playing with the mind while remaining outside through dissociation. While Chapter Two reads Decline and Fall (1928) – Waugh’s debut novel that established his exterior modernism – as the novelistic equivalent to a Chaplin silent film, Chapter Three regards Waugh’s experimentation with talk in Vile Bodies (1930) – a group novel preoccupied with the group mind – as resonating with the coming of sound to cinema. Concentrating on Brideshead Revisited (1945), a heritage novel, and its afterlives in heritage film and television, Chapter Four investigates exterior modernism at mid-century, which solves the problem of interiority with a distributed sense of affectivity.

Abstract:
This thesis has been written with the intention of providing an account of the work of Ethel Gabain (1883-1950), Evelyn Gibbs (1905-1991) and Evelyn Dunbar (1906-1960). All three were commissioned as war artists during the Second World War by the War Artists Advisory Committee and are probably best known today for the work they performed as war artists, indeed, the major repository for their work is the Imperial War Museum. All three were selected on the strength of their work prior to the war and all produced work during their commissions that received critical recognition in the press. Yet their war work did not lead to an increased call in demand for their work by galleries and collectors, and their commissions did not act as catalysts in a change of style. Their work was raised on a platform that offered the chance to garner critical significance, yet only Dunbar's war work has received the attention it deserves, and this admiration for her war work has only grown over time. Arguably their role in World War Two, as part of the war effort, gave them the first opportunity to participate in the same broad arena as their better known contemporaries. When these three became war artists in a sense they joined the populist mainstream that embraced a whole spectrum of avant-garde and conservative artists. This moment (for that's what it was) doesn't sustain them after the war, so the question must be raised as to the relationship between artistic ability, professional success and critical significance. My research seeks to appraise these artists' achievements and give them a place within the art world of the first half of the twentieth century, alongside their more critically acclaimed contemporaries. As art historians we need to look at all the components in a much larger picture of twentieth century art than that which has been widely disseminated within art historical practice.

El cáncer es una de las enfermedades principales a nivel mundial, esta enfermedad se puede tratar con más de un tratamiento con alta posibilidad de curarse a etapas tempranas, el uso de la radiación como forma de tratamiento y diagnóstico ha ido en aumento a nivel mundial, lo que se busca con el uso de la radiación es el depósito de energía para ocasionar daño y aniquilación de células cancerígenas tratando de dañar lo menos posible las áreas aledañas al tumor. El estudio correcto de la radiación es muy importante, por lo cual para poder estudiar sus efectos se ha recurrido a la experimentación y simulación de la radiación, siendo el método de simulación el más efectivo en el estudio de la radiación ionizante, a través de los años se han desarrollado varios códigos de carácter general que simulan la interacción de partículas, así como de la radiación ionizante, cada uno de ellos actualizándose constantemente. Existen dos metodologías para la simulación de radiación, siendo la primera el método de historias condensadas, este método consiste en simular el efecto global de un gran número de interacciones y tomarlo como un solo evento; el segundo método evento-por-evento consiste en la simulación de cada una de las interacciones que ocurran para cada historia, por ello para poder ahorrar tiempo de computo la mayoría de los códigos que existen recurren a la metodología de historias condensadas; por su naturaleza la metodología de evento-por-evento es más precisa en la simulación de radiación por ello el objetivo de este trabajo fue desarrollar un código de transporte de radiación ionizante utilizando la técnica de evento-por-evento, la fuente se colocó en el origen de un sistema cartesiano tridimensional dentro de un medio semi-infinito de H2O, donde la dirección de emisión fue simulada de manera isotrópica para realizar la validación con una geometría esférica centrada en el origen del sistema. La energía de emisión fue de 1 keV a 6000 keV, guardando las coordenadas de interacción (x_i,y_i,z_i ) y la energía depositada(e_i ), la verificación se realizó mediante la comparación del depósito de energía por fotón en una geometría esférica mediante la variación de su radio con un inicio en 2 cm y creciendo de 2 en 2 cm hasta un radio máximo de 30 cm contra el código MCNP 2.6; también se comparó la fracción de energía depositada, obteniendo diferencias porcentuales entre códigos del rango de 0.12 y 13.5%.

O objetivo do presente trabalho é apresentar um estudo qualitativo sobre o seminário e o contexto em que se realiza, reconhecendo-o como um evento comunicativo e de letramento recorrente, inserido nas práticas escolares, envolvendo além da linguagem outras modalidades de representação e comunicação. Trata-se de uma investigação de natureza exploratória e limitada à observação, descrição e análise de seminários produzidos em salas de aula de Ensino Fundamental e Médio de uma escola pública federal e de questionários aplicados a alunos e professores da instituição. Essas observações e questionários servem de base para a análise etnográfica do evento seminário. Os resultados mostram que o seminário que se realiza hoje na educação básica apresenta diferenças nos propósitos, no contexto e no comportamento lingüístico dos seus participantes em relação ao mesmo fenômeno nomeado, caracterizado e estudado no âmbito da Lingüística e da Educação à luz dos seminários acadêmicos de nível superior. A análise revela como é insuficiente abordar o seminário de forma estreita diante da complexidade das relações entre seus elementos constitutivos, e procura desvendar aspectos ainda pouco explorados no seminário, como a questão dos múltiplos letramentos nele presentes. Conhecer melhor esse evento ajudará a não reduzi-lo, no âmbito da sala de aula, a um mero instrumento de avaliação ou de transmissão de conteúdos curriculares

Abstract:
This thesis considers the development of Evelyn Waugh's and Graham Greene’s Catholicism between 1928 and 1939. Focusing predominantly on Waugh’s and Greene’s novels, it investigates how their writings express Catholic ideas, as well how their faith informs their views of human nature, their political sympathies, and their criticisms of modern secular civilization. While it recognizes the important differences between Waugh’s and Greene’s thinking in this period (such as their diverging political sympathies and their uses of different forms and genres of writing), it also establishes some significant affiliations between their Catholic points of view. Both authors associate the increasingly secular condition of English society with themes of decay and disintegration, acknowledge the reality of Original Sin, and believe in a supernatural reality distinct from its earthly counterpart. The Introduction provides an overview of Greene and Waugh scholarship, noting that there is currently no critical study devoted to the topic of early affiliations between these authors’ Catholic principles. The first two chapters propose that the beginnings of Waugh’s and Greene’s Catholic perspectives can be detected in their early fiction. Chapter Three examines in relation to each other Waugh’s and Greene’s novels between 1930 and 1935. Chapter Four charts the development of their respective vantage-points in the period 1936-1938. The final chapter looks at the year 1939 and assesses the nature of these authors' Catholic views prior to the outbreak of the Second World War.

Trata-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica do tipo Revisão Integrativa de literatura, que objetivou investigar e descrever o estado da arte, na literatura científica, do evento quedas em idosos nos últimos dez anos (2003 a 2012). A busca dos artigos ocorreu entre julho/2012 e julho/2013, em seis bases de dados eletrônicas e o acesso foi online: PubMed/Medline (National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health/Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online); CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literatue); Scopus; LILACS (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde); BDENF (Base de Dados de Enfermagem); SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online). Foram selecionados e submetidos à análise 224 artigos nos idiomas inglês, português e espanhol. O método utilizado para análise dos artigos foi a Proposta operativa de acordo com Minayo. Após o processo de análise emergiram quatro categorias: Análise quantitativa do estado da arte do evento queda em idoso; Epidemiologia do evento queda em idoso: um traçado histórico entre os anos de 2003 a 2012; Estudo dos preditores de quedas em idosos entre os anos de 2003 e 2012; Prevenção de quedas em idosos: um estudo do estado da arte. Por meio dessas quatro categorias foram produzidos quatro manuscritos. Percebemos que há diferentes abordagens dos autores relacionadas às quedas entre idosos, que se afunilam quando se trata de preditores e prevenção das mesmas nessa população. Notamos também a diversidade adotada pelos autores no que se refere aos instrumentos de avaliação de risco de queda e das intervenções propostas pelos programas, o que de fato limita a comparação e nos exige relativizar os resultados. Os profissionais da fisioterapia e da educaçãofísica se destacam quando se trata de quedas de idoso. Observamos que os autores estão certos de que o sexo, a cultura, educação, etnia e as condições sociodemográficas de fato interferem na incidência e prevalência de quedas entre idosos. No entanto é necessário afirmar que as quedas são evitáveis. As ILPs foram os locais com maiores estatísticas de quedas entre idosos. A enfermagem tem relevante papel na prevenção das quedas em qualquer estabelecimento assistencial de saúde, inclusive em ILPs, pois é a equipe de enfermagem que assiste e cuida integralmente e de maneira ininterrupta os idosos. Pontuamos que se faz necessário que os profissionais da área da saúde e os gestores aprimorem seus conhecimentos no desenvolvimento de estratégias e políticas específicas para a saúde do idoso.

Abstract : This is a literature integrative review aimed at investigating and describing the state of the art in the literature related to the event of falls in the elderly people in the last ten years (2003 to 2012). The search for the items happened between July/2012 and july/2013 in six electronic databases; the access was online: PubMed/Medline (National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health / Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online); CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature); Scopus; LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences); BDENF (Database of nursing); SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online). Were selected and subjected to analysis 224 articles in the languages of English, Portuguese and Spanish. The method used for the analysis of the items was the Proposed Operative according to Minayo. After the analysis process four themes emerged that were presented and discussed in the form of manuscripts. The first manuscript is a state of the art related to the fall of elderly people; the second manuscript refers to the epidemiology of the fall event in elderly 2003 to 2012. The third manuscript is a study of the predictors of falls in the elderly between 2003 and 2012; and the fourth manuscript is about preventing falls in the elderly. We identify that there are different approaches of the authors listed in the elderly falls, which are reduced in the case of the predictors and prevention of the same in this population. We also note the diversity adopted by the authors with regards the assessment tools fall hazards and interventions proposed by the programs, which effectively limits the comparison and requires us to relativize the results. The professional of physiotherapy and physical education stand out when it comes to falls in the elderly. We note that the authors are confident that gender, culture,education, ethnicity and socio-demographic conditions in fact interfere with the incidence and prevalence of falls among the elderly. Meanwhile it is necessary to state that falls are inevitable. The ILPs were more local statistic falls among the elderly. Nursing has an important role in the prevention of falls in any health care facility, including the ILPs, it is the nursing staff which attending integrally and deliver continuously caring for the elderly people. Punctuate it becomes necessary that professionals in health and managers improve their knowledge in the development of specific strategies and elderly health policies.

Resumo: A partir de uma abordagem discursiva, o presente trabalho propõe ferramentas para descrever os eventos estéticos e os tipos de discurso musical que permeiam a música instrumental contemporânea, mais especificamente nas escolhas enunciativas que cabem ao intérprete musical. Inicialmente, são definidos alguns preceitos acerca da interpretação musical, passando pelas correntes interpretativas e pelas funções do intérprete até chegar à reflexão sobre o ato musical em si. Após a apresentação desse panorama das discussões sobre a atividade interpretativa, a atenção se volta para a construção de sentido na música, de onde se entende que os próprios eventos estéticos – acontecimentos de grande impacto – guiam os fazeres musicais. Para tal finalidade, é utilizado o ferramental de certa linhagem da semiótica francesa. É Greimas, mais especificamente no livro Da Imperfeição, quem diz que as linguagens sensíveis são caracterizadas por eventos (estéticos ou estésicos) que rompem com um sentido discursivo mais abrangente, análogo à própria vida cotidiana, agregando-lhe valor. Os autores Zilberberg e Landowski, em suas trajetórias teóricas, buscaram sistematizar o livro Da Imperfeição cada um a seu modo, ainda que com diversas congruências: Zilberberg, partindo das reflexões de Greimas sobre as fraturas, estabelece a sua acepção de acontecimento, que busca dar conta do evento que acarreta um verdadeiro rompimento do sentido, cuja restauração se daria na própria resolução do acontecimento, q... Abstract: Based on a discursive approach, the present work offers tools to describe aesthetic events and the types of musical discourse present in contemporary instrumental music, particularly in enunciative choices made by musical performers. First, some precepts related to musical performance are defined; later, interpretative currents and the functions of the performer are brought to the debate until finally reflecting upon the musical act itself. After presenting this overview of discussions on the interpretative activity, construction of meaning in music is contemplated, reaching an understanding that the aesthetic events themselves - events of great impact - guide musical activities. For such, the tooling of a certain line of French semiotics is used. Greimas is the one who – in the book De l’imperfection – says that sensitive languages are characterized by (aesthetic or aesthesial) events that enable a more comprehensive discourse meaning – which is similar to everyday life itself – increasing its value. Throughout their theoretical trajectories, authors Zilberberg and Landowski sought to systematize the book De l’imperfection, each in their own way, but with different congruences: Zilberberg, based on Greimas' reflections on fractures, establishes his meaning of event, which tries to present an incident that causes a real disruption of meaning, whose restoration would take place in the very resolution of such incident, gradually turning into discursive grandeur; Landowski, on t... Systems of Order: The satirical novels of Evelyn Waugh is a study of Evelyn Waugh’s satire. It offers a contextual reading of eleven works by Waugh, presenting revisionist readings of familiar novels and according attention to previously neglected works. It aims to sketch out the main features of Waugh’s satire, including Waugh’s lexis and the use of certain key images and motifs. Comparative analysis of Waugh’s satirical novels with works by contemporary writers such as Clough Williams-Ellis, Wyndham Lewis, Stella Gibbons and T.S. Eliot brings into sharp relief the techniques and targets of Waugh’s satire. ¶ This thesis argues that despite Waugh’s tongue-in-cheek denial of satire’s efficacy in a complacent modern world, he did indeed write satire of a peculiarly twentieth century kind. Waugh’s apparently anarchic novels reflect, behind the detached insouciance of their narrators, the moral standards which the novels ostensibly claim are absent in the modern world. ¶ In Waugh’s writing, satire is effected through the creation of systems of literary order. The structure and patterning of his novels, and his masterful use of the rhetorical techniques of satire, mete out punishment on a formal level. Waugh’s satirical novels dramatize the tension between truth, order and civilization, and their oppositions, disorder and barbarism. Systems of Order suggests that from the very first, Waugh’s satiric project aimed toward the repudiation of modern disorder.
