Full textThe competition in the event industry is tough; the event agencies have to work hard to keep customers. Event marketing is partly about changing the receivers’ attitudes about a specific topic. The only way to find out whether attitudes have been changed is to measure the effects of the event. This report discusses in what way event agencies evaluate the effect of their events. I came to the conclusion that it is not common for event agencies to measure the effect. The reason is mostly because it is expensive to hire a company that does it, but also because it takes a lot of time. The solution is to define a method for evaluation that is simple, flexible and inexpensive for everyone involved. Even though this report is about evaluation in the event industry, I also look at evaluation in the advertising business, to find possible similarities. The outcome is a possible solution used for smartphones. One possible method to use is called Telia Mobil Respons and it is both easy to understand and manage, but also cost effective.

Full textThe study aims to create an understanding of how freelance project managers in the event industry experience their professional role in the gig economics. To investigate the purpose of the study, three research questions have been developed Why do project managers choose to work as self-employed in the event industry? What are the challenges in the professional role? What factors of success do freelance project managers identify in their professional role? In order to answer the research questions, a qualitative method in the form of semi-structured interviews has been used. Since the subject of the gig economy is still an unexplored subject and the study's demand for respondents' experience of their professional role, an inductive approach has been used, which means that the conclusions generated in the study have been based on the data collection that has been done. All respondents in this study work as freelance project managers in the event industry. In total, eight interviews were conducted with project managers who worked from 1 month to 40 years as self-employed in the industry. The result shows that the main reasons for working in the event industry seem to be joy, to feel it yourself, but also to give it to others. The freedom and flexibility to be able to decide for yourself are proving to be the driving force for working as a self-employed person. Experiences regarding the challenges that have been demonstrated are based on the work with different people, the understanding of others that the professional role is important and concern about getting health problems and be absent for a period. Finally, various factors of success are presented in which the freelance project managers identified in their professional role. The result of the study creates a picture of how today's project managers experience their profession and may play a role for the future project manager if the gig economy continues to increase at the same rate as today, and more will work as a freelance project manager.

Full textThe purpose of this thesis was to examine the interest for a sustainable certification when arranging events. The thesis is based on a quantitative method, where the authors did fifty telephone interviews with companies included in the event business. Theories that has been the basis of this examination is; sustainable development, event management, altruism and competition strategies. The material in the empiric chapter consists of crosstabs and graphs, formed by the statistical data from the survey. The authors have tried to connect the theories with the empirical result in the final analyze.
Furthermore, the outcome of the survey has been discussed in the chapters for analyze and results. The authors have seen an interest from the interview objects to apply a sustainable certification when arranging events, even though it does not exist. The examination has also been discussed in another point of view, is the interest based on a moral or an economic perspective? The authors think that companies interested in a sustainable certification, are interested even if it leads to higher costs for the business. Companies that are not interested in the certification, thinks that costs are the primary reason for this.
