The present study aims to analyse the effect of the passage of time on the phenomenological characteristics of the memory of a traumatic event of social relevance. The terrorist attack that took place in Barcelona (Spain) in August 2017 was taken as the traumatic event. A priori, this event meets the criteria to produce a flashbulb memory (level of surprise, consequentiality and emotional activation). A total of 364 memories from different individuals (78% women and a mean age of 20 years) were studied at five different time points, between September 2017 and December 2018, using the CCFRA/PQA

We analyze an energetic proton event associated with a stream interaction region (SIR) that was observed at Parker Solar Probe on day 320 of 2018 when the spacecraft was just 0.34 AU from the Sun. We find that the spectra from the first day of the event are much more consistent with local acceleration at a weak compression, while spectra from later on are more typical of SIR-related events in which particles a

This paper studies the evolution of opinions over random social networks subject to individual biases. An agent reviews the opinion of a randomly selected one and then updates its opinion under homogeneous biased assimilation. This study investigates the impact of biased assimilation on random opinion networks, which is different from the previous studies on fixed network structures. If the bias parameters are static, it is proven that the event in which all agents converge to extreme opinions happens almost surely. Next, the opinion polarization event is proved to be a probability one event.

We find a particular wind solution for a set of basic equations that satisfies the necessary and sufficient conditions for vertically unbound MHD flows. Network meta-analysis (NMA) combines direct and indirect evidence from trials to calculate and rank treatment effect estimates. While modelling approaches for continuous and binary outcomes are relatively well developed, less work has been done with time-to-event outcomes. Such outcomes have usually been analysed using Cox proportional hazard (PH) models, but in oncology, with longer follow-up of trials and time-dependent effects of targeted treatments, this may no longer be appropriate. This PhD responds to a two fold problem with the philosophy of design and the practice of design. The philosophical problem is stated as the discrepancy between a dominant philosophical framework that orders the world according to eternal essences and the actual conditions of the world in which we exist: the conditions of becoming and of flux. Commencing with a critique of the western metaphysical tradition of statics this research project proposes that we need to find a way of describing an evolutionary model of practice, and by so doing to provide a revitalised narration of process. Abstract In simple cases, the durations of successive periods, or waiting times, between events occurring to a unit, called life or event histories, involve events accumulated without any fundamental change in the unit: a point process. There may not be any fundamental evolution over time, as in a renewal process, or earlier events may influence the later ones, as for example in a birth process. In more complex situations, each event may induce a change of state for the unit, such as with a semi-Markov process (Section 3.1.2).

Abstract Maintaining a successfully operating Cathodic Protection to the entire surface of the tank bottom plate is a challenge to the practicing CP professionals. Proper and even distribution of the CP current is one of greatest importance. Defining an adequate criteria for effective protection of such a system is a challenge, considering: high resistivity electrolyte (washed sand), limiting current density at anode surface to reduce depolarizing effects due to oxygen evolution by anodic reactions, tank surface temperature, etc. This case study is carried out for anode grid systems, which are

Abstract Corrosion of pipelines is commonplace in many industries. Methods exist that can be used to calculate the overall integrity of damaged piping if the depth and configuration of the corroded areas are known1. By determining the depth and dimension of pitting, and knowing the design parameters of a given system, one can calculate the maximum pressure that a corroded pipe can contain. These methods are based on the premise that within a piping system, the most severe damage has been located and the geometry of this corroded area defined. In situations where localized corrosion occurs, thi

Abstract In the fields of space engineering and planetary science, hypervelocity impact phenomena have been studied as they relate to the space debris problem and planetary impact. With regard to hypervelocity-impact-induced damage, many studies focus on the evaluation of impact-damage geometry and morphology, for example, to construct the ballistic limit equations and/or penetrating equations for space structures, and to predict the size and shape of crater and fragments generated by planetary impact [1-4]. Under postulated conditions, the generated bubbles may coalesce to form flammable gas pockets. Ignition of such a gas pocket may result in a deflagration or detonation that can transmit a pressure pulse into the surrounding gas-liquid slurry. The transmitted pressure pulses will impose structural loads on the piping and associated supports. These loads, and their evolution as the pressure pulse propagates throughout the system, must be conside

They are a mix of 4.5 and 14 Hz geophones installed underground and in crown pillars. On the ground surface five 1 Hz geophones have been installed to estimate seismic source parameters. Average flare time profiles are useful tools for determining energy evolution mechanisms both in the Sun and in stars. The study related to their construction and analysis was done in the visible and ultraviolet spectral ranges. Microwave emission, which is sensitive to various emission mechanisms, was not included in such studies. In this paper, we present the first results of reconstruction and analysis of average time profiles of solar flares using observations with the Siberian Radioheliograph. African Traditional Medicine (ATM) is one of the oldest forms of health care systems that has stood the test of time. The advent of COVID-19 and other epidemics such as Ebola and Marburg call for urgency for Africa to meet its increasing need and demand for pharmaceutical products and tackle persistent lack of access to essential medicines. The aim of this briefing paper is to highlight the different stages that pharmaceutical manufacturing in Africa has gone through. Dust aerosols can pose a significant detriment to public health, transportation, and tactical operations through reductions in air quality and visibility. Thus, accurate model forecasts of dust emission and transport are essential to decision makers. While a large number of studies have advanced the understanding and predictability of dust storms, the majority of existing literature considers dust production and forcing conditions of the underlying meteorology independently of each other. Mortality in Algeria has declined significantly since the country declared its independence in 1962. This trend has been accompanied by improvements in data quality and changes in estimation methodology, both of which are scarcely documented, and may distort the natural evolution of mortality as reported in official statistics. In this paper, our aim is to detect these methodological and data quality changes by means of the visual inspection of mortality surfaces, which represent the evolution of mortality rates, mortality improvement rates and the male-female mortality ratio over age and time

Data on economic transactions is crucial for tax administrations to be able to enforce tax compliance, and technology can be key to obtaining information. In the last decade, African tax administrations have increasingly adopted technological advances such as integrated systems, electronic filing, and electronic billing machines (EBMs). EBMs allow taxpayers to digitise their transactions and transfer billing information automatically to the revenue authority. They have high potential, as they allow firms to lower their administrative and compliance costs, streamline transactions, improve recor
