Full textAt the core of this study is the belief that, with a better knowledge of the profile and the needs of students who have difficulty in history, we will be able to help them more effectively. We studied some factors (among other things: difficulties with understanding and writing text, problems like dyslexia or ADHD, test anxiety and afterschool employment) and some theories from historical didactic to understand the perceptions of the causes of the failure at the ministerial uniform examination of students who chose to enroll in a summer class of “History and Citizenship Education” to earn another chance at this evaluation. During summer 2014 and 2015, we collected opinions from 160 students enrolled in four different summer schools in “History and Citizen Education” after a failure at the 4th secondary’s ministerial uniform examination. Our results indicate that most of the students who failed declared having difficulties in writing and understanding texts (in their native language). Some factors (dyslexia, ADHD, test anxiety and after-school employment) seem also to have a negative impact on success at the ministerial uniform examination. A conception of history based on memorisation seem to confuse most of this population at the evaluation. Keywords: History and Citizenship Education, uniform examination, history didactics, failure, summer school, difficulty in reading comprehension, difficulty writing, trouble, relationship to knowledge, memorization.

Full textThis thesis describes the development of a new instruments, the Détecteur Interférométrique Panoramique de Pollution (DIPP) ; This instrument, derived from the jovian seimometer « SYMPA », was designed like a robust and compact detector, in order to provide a simple way of monitoring the air pollution. The four images in quadrature of phase given by the DIPP are combined to determine at each point of the field of view the concentration of pollution. First conceived to measure the nitrogen dioxide concentration along a line of sight, according to the Fourier Transform Spectrometry method, studies were carried out in order to determine if the DIPP could observe other main pollutants. We could not during this work the extreme precision required for optics manufacturing and the critical adaptation of the entry filter in order to obtain measurable interference fringes. The high selectivity of the entry filter (visible light, at 440 nm) also attenuates the signal, separated into four polarized images. Other difficulties, like a structural defect of the entry filter generating parasitic fringes, can be attenuated by additional calibration operations? We thus directed our efforts towards a better correction of the geometrical distortions induced by the optical elements of the DIPP. The development of acquisition and image processing software also made it possible to increase the speed of the measurements reduction

Full textThis PHD thesis approaches Perec’s work through the prism of the mise en abyme, an a priori overused process of 20th century literature, whose narrative efficiency seems nevertheless to have attracted a writer set on basing his writing in a system and maintaining the illusory pleasure of fiction. Due to the aporia of a pure appearance of the process, the area of the study is broadened to the more wide et #8208;ranging movements it implies: inclusion and repetition. These two movements, which initiate a tension between the whole and its parts, can also be used to describe Perec’s gesture of writing, animated by the wish to be part of the world. A specific narrative horizon emerges. On the one hand, the mise en abyme is considered in its closeness to the metatextual dimension of the narratives, whose effects are often metaleptical. On the other hand, because of the process’ figurability, which enables it to act as subject as well as objet of a reflection, Perec’s writing can be apprehended in its plasticity. Finally, this narrative horizon is confronted with the idea that Perec voices about a possible “narratheme”, a minimal narrative unit that would contain the seeds of a fictional world. The local effect of the mise en abyme opens to a more general dynamic of the narratives, between condensation and extension. Narrative or textual thresholds appear, where the inclusion of the author in his writings is negotiated: to narrate and to narrate oneself. Besides the perecquian corpus, the relevance of the enlargement of the mise en abyme is demonstrated in the works of Luxembourgish authors writing in french: Jean Portante and Jean Sorrente

Full textIn cluster randomized trials, clusters of subjects are randomized rather than subjects themselves and the outcomes of subjects within a given cluster are correlated. This correlation, usually quantified by the intraculster correlation coefficient, needs to be taken into account when planning and analyzing a cluster randomized trial. The present work focuses on two statistical issues related to loss of information in the specific context of a cluste randomized trial : incompleteness of data due to missing binary outcomes and loss of information induced after dichotomization of a continuous outcome. We showed that both multiple imputation with classical or random-effects logistic regression model provided unbiased estimates of the intervention effect and showed good coverage properties, even slightly better with a random-effects logistic regression. Then, we showed that the intracluster correlation coefficient attenuation formula, demonstrated in a reliability context, still applied in the cluster randomized trial context. Therefore, in a cluster randomized triall, dichotomizing a continuous outcome actually induced two antagonistic effects : a decrease in power because of loss of information and an increase in power induced ty the attenuation of the intracluster correlation coefficient. We showed that dichotomization was finally associated with a decrease in power because the attenuation of the intracluster correlation coefficient only partly compensated for the loss in power induced by the loss of information. Our results are of interest for better management of cluster randomized trials, both at the planning stage and when analyzing data
