Abstract:
Automatic concrete spalling detection has become an important issue for metro tunnel examinations and maintenance. This paper focuses on concrete spalling detection research with surface roughness analysis based on point clouds produced by 3D mobile laser scanning (MLS) system. In the proposed method, at first, the points on ancillary facilities attached to tunnel surface are considered as outliers and removed via circular scan-line fitting and large residual error filtering. Then, a roughness descriptor for the metro tunnel surface is designed based on the triangulated grid derived from point

In the face of persistent rise in unemployment figure in Nigeria, this study re-examines the unemployment hysteresis hypothesis by deploying both linear and nonlinear unit root estimation techniques. Using Nigerian unemployment rate data from 1970 to 2017, evidence from the adopted unit toot test techniques, except the quantile unit root test, showed that unemployment hysteresis hypothesis holds in Nigeria. This implies that when a shock that affects unemployment occurs, there is a high tendency that the effect would be permanent. However, the finding from the quantile unit root test sheds lig

In this paper, we propose a system of two dissimilar units: one unit prioritizes operation (priority unit), and the other unit is kept as a cold standby (ordinary unit). In this system, we assume that the failures, repairs, and preventive maintenance (PM) times follow arbitrary distributions for both units, except for the fact that the repair time of the ordinary unit follows an exponential distribution. The priority unit has normal, partial failure or total failure modes, while the ordinary unit has normal or total failure modes. The PM of the system can be started after time t when (i) the p

We define the elementary solution of the polyharmonic equation, with the help of which an explicit representation of the Green’s function of the Dirichlet problem for the polyharmonic equation in the unit ball is given for all space dimensions except for some finite set. On the basis of the obtained Green’s function, the solution of the homogeneous Dirichlet problem in the unit ball is constructed. As an example, an explicit form of the solution of the homogeneous Dirichlet problem for the inhomogeneous polyharmonic equation with the simplest polynomial right-hand side is found.
