Abstract:
Non-degenerate pump–probe transmission spectroscopy is used to examine the ultrafast dynamics of photo-excited carriers in hematite nanoforms at various pump fluences. Using coupled rate equations, the kinetics of self-trapped exciton (STE) formation and its interaction with free excitons resulting in exciton annihilation were studied. It is shown from this model that the majority of the excitons were trapped by polaronic trap states to form self-trapped excitons within ∼3.5 ps. The findings indicate that free excitons and STEs interact non-linearly, similar to trap-assisted bi-molecular Auger

Abstract Atomically thin heterostructures formed by twisted transition metal dichalcogenides can be used to create periodic moiré patterns. The emerging moiré potential can trap interlayer excitons into arrays of strongly interacting bosons, which form a unique platform to study strongly correlated many-body states. In order to create and manipulate these exotic phases of matter, a microscopic understanding of exciton–exciton interactions and their manifestation in these systems becomes indispensable. Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D-TMDs) hold a great potential to platform future flexible optoelectronics. The beating hearts of these materials are their excitons known as XA and XB, which arise from transitions between spin-orbit split (SOS) levels in the conduction and valence bands at the K-point. The functionality of 2D-TMD-based devices is determined by the dynamics of these excitons. One of the most consequential channels of exciton decay on the device functionality is the defect-assisted recombination (DAR). Here, we employ steady-state absorption and emission spect

As the temperature increases beyond 60 K, a strong quenching of the exciton glow is observed in the doped crystal (with 0.1% Cu2+). Above 60 K, the decay kinetics of doped crystals has a complicated form typical of quasi–one–dimensinal excitons. Spatially indirect excitons, being composite bosons, are attractive candidates to explore correlated many-body systems. They possess an inherent large electric dipole, a four-fold spin manifold, and can be studied via the emitted photoluminescence after electrons and holes have recombined. Due to their extremely low mass compared to atoms, a sufficiently dense gas of indirect excitons is expected to form a Bose-Einstein condensate below a critical temperature of a few Kelvins. Recent theoretical results show that this condensation must take place in optically dark states of the spin manifold.

The first step is using burning laser to excite electron of Sm2+ from the ground state 7F0 to the excited energy level 5DJ. The second step is using gating laser to excite the electron from the 5DJ level to the conduction band, where the free electron will be captured either by trap or by the ionized Sm2+ ion again. The overall process depends on the factors: excitation rate, the trapping rate and the recombination rate.

Abstract:
It is now well established that Te is a strong isoelectronic center for excitons in II-VI compound semiconductors such as ZnSe [1],[2], and ZnS [3], Deeply bound states (>100 meV) exist due to the attractive short range potential by Te for holes. Furthermore, it has been argued [2] that the process involves strong local lattice relaxation in a dynamical sense, i.e. that photoexcited holes are subject to self-trapping while the electron component of the exciton simply Coulomb orbits the ’Frenkel-like’ hole [4]. The use of such isoelectronic centers may be especially useful in developing ligh

Abstract:
Laser-cooled trapped ion crystals offer a unique opportunity to study the interactions between atoms. We have previously developed a microscopic planar Paul trap1 which is small and strong enough to bring the ion separation into the sub-micron region where quantum collective effects become important. A search is underway for the superradiant coupling of two atoms which manifests itself as a variation of the spontaneous emission rate with the ion-ion distance. We have produced an ion crystal with a separation of 1.1 microns in an 80 micron radius planar Paul trap. At this distance, equal to 2.2

Abstract:
The main recommendations of the panel report can be summarised under four headings: 1. From Source to Sea: River systems, from their source to the sea and beyond, should form the focus for research projects, allowing the integration of all archaeological work carried out along their course. Future research should take a holistic view of the marine and maritime historic environment, from inland lakes that feed freshwater river routes, to tidal estuaries and out to the open sea. This view of the landscape/seascape encompasses a very broad range of archaeology and enables connections to be made w
