Article represents passive diathesis which is one of many kinds and function of grammatical analysis. Passive diathesis or mostly known as passive voice is usually used to show a relation between the speaker and his view on something. In Japanese, passive diathesis is divided in three parts such as, kihon teki na ukemi (basic passive voice), mochi mushi ukemi (belonging passive voice), higai no ukemi (loss passive voice), and hijou no ukemi (neutral passive voice). Each passive voice in Japanese has different function and meaning, therefore in teaching Japanese language it should take more exercise and example in order to be more complete and comprehensive.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Thesis, Lyon 1, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013LYO10056.

Full text
Abstract:
The POCIS (Polar Organic Chemical Integrative Sampler) is an alternative integrative sampling tool to conventional sampling methods (grab or automated) for measuring hydrophilic organic micropollutants in water. This tool permits to supply time-weighted average concentrations (TWAC) and, sometimes, to decrease limits of quantification. A detailed bibliographic review showed the important variability of POCIS performance data measured in laboratory (notably the sampling rates or Rs). This variability is in majority due to different experimental calibration systems, not always well detailed, among studies. In the literature, in situ TWAC are compared to concentrations from conventional sampling, actually used in European monitoring programs ; these concentrations are generally of the same order of magnitude, even if they do not represent the same information. In order to obtain accurate and robust TWAC, we studied in laboratory the “pharmaceutical” POCIS behavior for 56 micropollutants (hormones, pharmaceuticals, alkylphenols, pesticides, UV filter), in a calibration system specifically made for controlling the whole experimental conditions having an influence on Rs. We determined 43 robust RS and demonstrated that POCIS is well adapted for sampling most of studied molecules. Moreover, the pattern of kinetic accumulations is explained using molecule physical-chemical properties (log D, polar surface). Five deuterated homologues were identified as PRCs, meaning that they can be used for correcting differences in conditions between the laboratory and the field. We also compared the POCIS with the “polar” Chemcatcher and we showed that in term of application field and performances, the POCIS is better adapted for studied micropollutants. At last, we tested the accuracy and the robustness of the POCIS during two inter-laboratory studies (ILSs). The first ILS, dealing with the laboratory calibration of the tool, demonstrated performance robustness for 3 pesticides. The second in situ ILS demonstrated the relevance of the POCIS for sampling hormones, pharmaceuticals and pesticides from a waste water treatment plant effluent. This thesis permits to improve knowledge on the POCIS and to promote its application for the water framework directive

Schiphof, Lieke. "La dépendance à l’exercice comme construit multidimensionnel : étude de ses origines, caractéristiques et conséquences." Thesis, Paris 11, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011PA113010.

Abstract:
The objective of this thesis was to gain a better understanding of the concept of exercise dependence, by studying its relationship with a variety of motivational and personal factors. Different theories concerning motivation, perfectionism and self-esteem have been used in order to determine which of those factors were most strongly related to excercise dependence. After adapting the passion and perfectionism scales for use in populations of different ages, three empricial studies have been realized. The first study revealed four different clusters based on the motivational profiles of the individuals included. The cluster containing an important number of individuals with very high scores on obsessive passion and socially prescribed perfectionism obtained the highest scores for exercise dependence. The second study has shown, by using canonical correlations, a strong relationship between obsessive passion and the different composing factors of exercise dependence. Finally, the third study has revealed that the relationship between perfectionism and exercise dependence can be mediated by obsessive passion and by a self-esteem depending on sport. The conclusion of this thesis is therefore that obsessive passion is strongly related to exercise dependence, and that perfectionism and a form of self-esteem extremely dependant on sport, probably play an important role in the development of this exercise dependence

Abstract:
Heat exposure causes several physiological and metabolic alterations. Although lipids are vital in sustaining energy production, heat-induced alterations in lipid metabolism have not been clearly established. CHAPTER 1 reviews the known metabolic alterations resulting from heat stress, with a specific focus on changes in whole-body lipid utilization and plasma lipids. CHAPTER 1also outlines the physiological changes caused by heat stress, and their role in reducing exercise performance. The study presented in CHAPTER 2 has shown that, compared to thermoneutral conditions, NEFA concentrations were 37% higher following passive heating and 34% higher following exercise in the heat, without significant changes in whole-body lipid utilization. In addition, the level of hyperthermia attained during passive pre-heating and exercise in the heat resulted in a 13% decrease in total external work and a significantly higher rate of perceived exertion. CHAPTER 3 summarizes the study results and presents the limitations and applications of the study.

Abstract:
The effects of differing recovery patterns following intermittent exercise on blood lactate and subsequent performance were examined. Fourteen male subjects completed three randomly assigned experimental protocols. Each protocol consisted of eight 45s-bouts of cycling on a Monark cycle ergometer at 120% of VO$ sb2$ max interposed with five minute recovery periods. Each protocol ended with a maximal performance task consisting of a 45s all-out cycling test. Recovery patterns included passive, cycling (45% of VO$ sb2$ max), and arm cranking (45% of VO$ sb2$ max). Results revealed similar blood lactate concentrations in the passive and arm cranking conditions but significantly lower (p $<$.05) levels in the cycling condition. Mean power outputs measured from the performance task were significantly higher (p $<$.05) in the cycling and arm cranking recovery conditions. The correlation between blood lactate levels and mean power output was low (r = $-$0.28), suggesting that other factors were influencing subsequent performance.

Dunbar, Julia Lorene. "Passive Hallux Adduction Decreases Blood Flow to Plantar Fascia." BYU ScholarsArchive, 2018. https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/6928.

Full text
Abstract:
Purpose: Due to the vital role that blood flow plays in maintaining tissue health, compromised blood flow can prevent effective tissue healing. An adducted hallux, as often seen inside a narrow shoe, may put passive tension on the abductor hallucis, consequently compressing the lateral plantar artery (LPA) into the calcaneus and thus restricting blood flow. The purpose of this study was to compare blood flow within the LPA before and after passive hallux adduction (PHA). Methods: Forty-five healthy volunteers (20 female, 25 male; age = 24.8 ± 6.8 yr; height = 1.7 ± 0.1 m; weight = 73.4 ± 13.5 kg) participated in this study. Blood velocity and vessel diameter measurements were obtained using ultrasound imaging (L8-18i transducer, GE Logiq S8). The LPA was imaged deep to abductor hallucis for 120 seconds: 60 seconds at rest followed by 60 seconds of PHA. Maximal PHA was performed by applying pressure to the medial side of the proximal phalanx of the hallux. Blood flow was then calculated in mL/min, and pre-PHA blood flow was compared to blood flow during PHA. Results: Log transformed data was used to run a paired t-test between the preadduction and postadduction blood flow. The volume of blood flow was 22.2% lower after PHA compared to before (–0.250 ± 0.063, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Although PHA is only a simulation of what would happen to the hallux inside of a narrow shoe, our preliminary findings of decreased blood flow through PHA suggest blood flow in narrow footwear and its effects on tissues within the foot are worth investigating.

Abstract:
Background: Patients with COPD have impairment on respiratory muscle function related to respiratory symptoms and psychosocial factors as well as low fitness. The respiratory muscle stretching could be an alternative for treatment of respiratory dysfunction in these patients; however, there are few evidence about the benefits of including this therapy to aerobic exercise. Objective: to assess the effects of adding stretching of respiratory muscles to aerobic exercise in thoracoabdominal mechanics, functional capacity and psychosocial factors in patients with COPD. Methods: This trial enrolled 28 patients with COPD moderate to severe randomized in Treatment Group (TG, n=14) and Control Group (CG, n=14). CG performed aerobic exercises and TC received adding respiratory muscles stretching twice weekly during 12 weeks. Blinded assessors evaluated regional lung volumes on superior thorax, inferior thorax and abdomen and their contribution on total chest wall volume (optoelectronic plethysmography), basal dyspnea (MRC), dyspnea during daily activities (LCADL), quality of life related with health (CRQ), clinical control of the disease (CCQ), anxiety and depression symptoms (HAD) and functional capacity (six minutes walking test). Results: After treatment, GT presented increase on abdominal volume and decrease on contribution of inferior thorax on total chest wall volume and lower dyspnea after walking test. Both groups presented improved scores on MRC, on LCADL, on CCQ and on functional capacity. Quality of life and HAD score was similar. Conclusions: Adding respiratory muscle stretching to aerobic exercise is able to improve thoracoabdominal mechanics and the dyspnea after effort in patients with COPD. Our results also confirmed the positive effects of aerobic exercise on dyspnea on baseline and during activity of daily living, on clinical control of the disease and on functional capacity of these patients

Hanson, Brady Edward. "The Relationship Between Vascular Endothelial Function andPeak Exercise Blood Flow." BYU ScholarsArchive, 2019. https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/7527.

Full text
Abstract:
Purpose The vascular endothelium is an influential contributor to vasodilation at rest, yet its role during peak exercise is relatively unknown. The purpose of this study is to determine if exercise leg blood flow during dynamic submaximal and maximal exercise is related to resting vascular endothelial function. Methods Nineteen subjects (aged 23 ± 0.57 yr) completed multiple assessments of vascular endothelial function including passive leg movement (PLM), rapid onset vasodilation, (ROV) and flow-mediated dilation (FMD). Peak muscle blood flow was assessed during single leg knee extension (KE) exercise. Doppler ultrasound of the femoral artery was utilized to assess muscle blood flow. Results Peak exercise blood flow was linearly related with microvascular endothelial function determined by PLM (P < 0.001) and ROV (P < 0.001). Normalizing muscle blood flow for quadriceps mass did not change this significant association. Individuals with high vascular endothelial function had greater muscle blood flow during KE compared to those with low endothelial function (P = 0.05). Post hoc analysis indicated a significant difference in blood flow between high and low endothelial function groups at 20 W, 30 W, and peak flow (P = 0.042, 0.048, 0.001, respectively). Conclusion Peak muscle blood flow during dynamic exercise is correlated with vascular endothelial function, as measured by PLM and ROV, accounting for between 30 to 50% of the variance in this relationship. These data support the hypothesis that endothelial function significantly contributes to the peak blood flow response during dynamic exercise.

Abstract:
This chapter argues that, on Kant’s account, aesthetic pleasure is an exercise of rational agency insofar as, when proper, (1) it involves consciousness of its ground (the reasons for having it) and thus of itself as properly responsive to its object, and (2) actually feeling this pleasure involves its endorsement as an attitude to have. I claim that seeing this clearly requires that we divest ourselves of the following dilemma: either pleasures are the noncognitive, passive ways through which we are affected by objects or they are cognitive states by virtue of the theoretical beliefs or practical desires they involve. On my reading of Kant, this dilemma is false. Aesthetic pleasure is neither passive, nor theoretically or practically cognitive, and yet, it is an exercise of rational agency by virtue of belonging to a domain of rationality that is largely overlooked in the history of philosophy: aesthetic rationality.

Full text
Abstract:
High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is characterized by brief, intermittent bursts of near- or maximal-intensity exercise, interspersed by periods of active or passive recovery. The limited available evidence suggests that HIIT is an efficacious training method for young athletes. The effect of HIIT on cardiorespiratory fitness, endurance performance, explosive strength, and sport-specific performance has been examined in a range of young athletic populations from various sports. Furthermore, promising preliminary findings suggest that HIIT may confer further benefits to a range of health outcome measures including fasting insulin, lipoproteins, systolic blood pressure, and endothelial function; obese youth may benefit particularly from this type of training. Improved cardiorespiratory fitness has been observed consistently after HIIT in athletic and non-athletic populations. Larger studies, extended over longer periods, that include valid measures of exercise compliance, tolerance, and enjoyment are required to further delineate the priority that could be afforded to this type of training.

Graham, Gordon. Was Reid a Moral Realist? Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198783909.003.0003.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter argues that, contrary to a very widely held view, Reid’s express disagreement with Hume on the matter of morality cannot satisfactorily be pressed into the “realism versus sentimentalism” dichotomy. Hume is certainly a sentimentalist, but there is good reason to interpret Reid’s use of the analogy between moral sense and sense perception in a way that does not imply the existence of “real” moral properties. Reid makes judgment central to the analogy, and this gives the exercise of an intellectual “power” primacy over passive sensual experience. The analogy thus allows him to apply the concepts “true” and “false” to moral judgments, without any quasi-realist appeal to moral facts.

Zola, Émile. A Love Story. Edited by Brian Nelson. Translated by Helen Constantine. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/owc/9780198728641.001.0001.

Abstract:
‘Everything revolved around their love. They were constantly bathed in a passion that they carried with them, around them, as though it were the only air they could breathe.’ Hélène Grandjean, an attractive young widow, lives a secluded life in Paris with her only child, Jeanne. Jeanne is a delicate and nervous girl who jealously guards her mother's affections. When Jeanne falls ill, she is attended by Dr Deberle, whose growing admiration for Hélène gradually turns into mutual passion. Deberle's wife Juliette, meanwhile, flirts with a shallow admirer, and Hélène, intent on preventing her adultery, precipitates a crisis whose consequences are far-reaching. Jeanne realizes she has a rival for Hélène's devotion in the doctor, and begins to exercise a tyrannous hold over her mother. The eighth novel in Zola's celebrated Rougon-Macquart series, A Love Story is an intense psychological and nuanced portrayal of love's different guises. Zola's study extends most notably to the city of Paris itself, whose shifting moods reflect Hélène's emotional turmoil in passages of extraordinary lyrical description.

Russell, Meg, and Daniel Gover. Legislation at Westminster. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198753827.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
This book describes and analyses the legislative process in the British Westminster parliament, with a focus on the contributions of different parliamentary ‘actors’, and close attention to questions of policy influence. It draws on the largest study of the process for over 40 years, which included analysis of 12 government bills as they passed through both the House of Commons and House of Lords. In addition to studying over 4,000 amendments proposed, and public records such as parliamentary speeches, the book draws on over 100 interviews with those closely involved. The opening chapters summarize the basics of the legislative process and review common assumptions that Westminster’s policy influence is relatively weak. Subsequent chapters explore in detail the contributions of different groups: government, opposition, government backbenchers, non-party parliamentarians, select committees, and outside pressure groups. In each case the organization, motivations, and actual policy influence of these groups are discussed. An additional chapter shows that cross-party working between these actors is far more common than often assumed. The book uncovers many of the subtleties of the process. Despite the appearance of executive dominance, ministers routinely respond to parliamentary pressure, and government takes parliament into account when drafting legislation (including through ‘anticipated reactions’). Opposition members raise the profile of issues, and can use the House of Lords to negotiate changes. Other actors similarly exercise various forms of policy power. Overall, this study demonstrates that Westminster is more influential in the legislative process than often assumed, with parliamentary power exercised in a variety of interconnected ways.

Costa Cruz, Elisa. Guarda Parental: releitura a partir do cuidado. Edited by Bruna Schlindwein Zeni. Editora Blimunda, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.51779/guardaparental.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
Learning to play without grasping the violin with the chin involves a certain reorganization of the body; this lesson contains five exercises designed to help the body achieve this transition in a comfortable, tension-free way. Special attention is paid to the back and ways of monitoring and releasing tension while actually playing. Exercise 10 encourages the visualization of the ideal state of the back while playing. Exercise 11 demonstrates ways of training the hands to be active while the back and shoulders remain passive; this theme is developed further in Exercise 12. The use of a table for learning to release tension is the focus of Exercise 13, while Exercise 14 shows how to carry out a spot check while playing. Three causes of tension are identified: technical factors, emotional factors, and nerves. These exercises are useful to any violinist or violist, but their principles are equally applicable to any instrumentalist.

Abstract:
Turning now to exercises taught by Gurdjieff’s pupils, this is the first serious academic study of any aspect of de Salzmann’s The Reality of Being. The volume is an edited collection of translated notes, not always clear even upon investigation. Gurdjieff himself considered de Salzmann his leading pupil in the 1940s, and her critical role in passing on his methods can hardly be overstated. The most important exercises found in this book are examined, and their connection to Gurdjieff’s own efforts shown. In particular, the exercise which she attributes to Gurdjieff for relating the feeling of the words “I Am” to the sensation of the physical body, is a significant addition to the corpus of Gurdjieff’s exercises, and exemplifies several aspects of his teaching. However, a discontinuity from Gurdjieff’s methods is also apparent, e.g. in the “I, Me Exercise” which there is reason to think is not by Gurdjieff, and indeed is at variance with some of his ideas. This is supplemented by a consideration of the “New Work” methods which de Salzmann introduced after Gurdjieff’s death. The deleterious effect of these innovations upon the transmission of the authentic Gurdjieff exercises is noted.

Abstract:
This chapter briefly looks at the nature of sovereignty and its parameters in international law, but essentially focuses on the function and nature of jurisdiction. It firstly examines the breadth of the space in which sovereignty is exercised, namely land, sea, and air. Thereafter, it assesses territorial jurisdiction (in both its objective and subjective dimension) and examines the practice of the four extraterritorial principles of jurisdiction, namely nationality-based, the protective principle, passive personality, and universal jurisdiction. The chapter then considers instances where national courts refuse to exercise their ordinary jurisdiction, namely instances where the accused is covered by the privilege of immunity or because his or her arrest was illegal. Finally, it looks at the US practice of extraterritorial jurisdiction whereby sometimes the sovereignty of other nations was breached.

Abstract:
About 2% of people have weak or paralysed upper limbs (ULs) due to stroke or spinal cord injury (SCI). Physiotherapy involving exercise can improve motor function in many such cases. This chapter reviews conventional and robotic exercise therapy, FES and passive exercise devices that enhance engagement in the UL rehabilitation with computer gaming, which can restore neuromuscular control and improve motivation by making exercise therapy enjoyable. Over the last 10 years many devices have been developed and tested. For example, neuroprostheses that activate hand muscles with functional electrical stimulation (FES). Exercise therapy performed with robotic devices has been one of the most active areas of research and development. It is suggested that important developments in the next few years will include the widespread availability and adoption of affordable FES and in-home exercise devices, and the provision of tele-coaching over the Internet.

Abstract:
In his earliest work, Deleuze presents a relational theory of subjectivity in constant flux. The larval, passive flux becomes an active subject capable of saying “I” through the exercise of certain capacities or faculties, namely, the habit of forming habits. Though the exercise of habit formation is passive, the result is an activated subject with the capacity to intervene in its own passive processes, capable of undertaking the difficult, transformative, and liberating work of destroying old habits of thinking and acting in favor of creating new ones that embrace fluidity, ambiguity, freedom, and difference. Yet, this capacity for catalyzing transformative change is frequently subverted from the inside. This is the ethical problem at the center of Deleuze’s ontology of change: the very habits that produce the conditions of becoming an ethical subject also produce the desire for repression of the fluidity of becoming. That is, the desire for fascism is the companion of the movement of subjectivation.

Abstract:
This chapter presents a controversial issue within the history of sexuality. It documents several case studies of sex work done within home-based brothels, where mothers, sisters, and father figures procured younger women and children. These examples would be interpreted today as sexual abuse, given that they involved girls under the age of sixteen, forced or manipulated into prostitution by more powerful individuals. The chapter tries to contextualize these cases within the contemporary domestic economy and culture of family life during the struggle for Mexican independence from Spain.Young women in fact betrayed filial loyalty and domestic hierarchies when they spoke as plaintiffs to denounce their sisters, mothers, or fathers for involving them in selling sex.In response to the complaints (the daughters’ disobedience to their familial superiors), the late viceregal state exercised paternalism as it stepped in to preserve traditional ideas of family as a sexual sanctuary for protected daughters.

Abstract:
It is called contracture that a joint’s range of motion is restricted. Range of motion exercise is effective to prevent contracture. However, if range of motion exercise by the physiotherapist is performed, a range of motion will improve, but if time not to exercise is long, contracture will decrease again. Then, a rehabilitation instrument for passive range-of-motion exercise which can use after exercise by the physiotherapist is required. A CPM for a knee is developed as such an instrument, and it is also used for an ankle. But, most of instrument used motors to get a high power. So, those are heavy and large size. Installation and movement of instruments at facilities are difficult, and it is also difficult to use freely at home.

Abstract:
In terms of professional and personal maturity, it’s critical for a future specialist to consciously join health and fitness activities, awakening ‘subjectivity’ towards physical activity and physical exercises, since only then will it be possible to maintain health conditions at a level necessary for ensuring the adequate functioning in social and professional areas. The need to generate this competence in the process of learning in higher education served to form the need for the present study, the main objective of which was the following: to characterise the conditions necessary for the formation of the student’s personality, capable of conscious, responsible, competent behaviour in physical education and recreational activities. The main research methods were the theoretical analysis and synthesis of scientific and methodological literature, psychological testing, pedagogical experiments and methods of mathematical statistics. Conditions deemed as prerequisites for awaking ‘subjectivity’ in health and fitness activities are as follows: substitution of a methodologicalfunctional approach by a personally significant one; integrated use of fitness technologies in the process of physical education; the reorientation of students from passive exercise to active participation in the educational process; the organisation of subject-subject interaction between the participants of the educational process. The implementation of these conditions results in the transformation of students’ attitudes in educational and professional activity, the recognition of physical culture as a personally significant prerequisite for successful educational and professional activity.
