Abstract:
Imagining structures from the ekphrastic descriptions of the Jerusalem Temple and Temple Mount in I Kings and Ezekiel is an ancient meditation discipline, which was adopted from Jewish practices into early Christian monasticism. Though it could take various forms, ‘imagining/remembering Jerusalem’ was often practised as a devotional exercise throughout the European Middle Ages. Drawings of such an imagined character are significant to late medieval exegesis of these and related scriptural materials, particularly those associated with the commentaries of Nicholas of Lyra and the collection of visual meditations known as the Speculum theologie. This chapter queries a late medieval illuminated manuscript (Bodleian Library MS Laud Misc. 156) that, in the fifteenth century, formed part of the library of St John's Hospital in Exeter, to suggest that its materials were acquired and used for scriptural study and sermon composition by scholars of the hospital and its associated school.

Abstract:
COVID-19 put approximately all countries on lockdown. Libraries, whether they are public or private, also face closure. Through these closings, libraries remain to deliver facilities to their people in this perplexing period. So, this chapter discussed the challenges that libraries faced during this global health crisis and also discussed the possible applications that are helpful in these challenges. Data will be primary data used for empirical investigations and collected from public libraries of Pakistan. The chapter gives the empirical results or finding on the challenges (libraries closure, social distancing, handling material, and lack of research) and helpful applications like digital service, delivery services, exerted personnel, and online article requests for libraries. This chapter suggested applying quarantine strategies on returned books policy and implementing plans to offer remote services for example e-lending, e-learning, or support to remote teaching.

Abstract:
This paper examines the legal challenges librarians managing university libraries in Kenya experience when providing information services in support of distance learning. Kenya is experiencing enormous socio-economic changes. These changes have exerted serious pressure on higher education resulting to phenomenal expansion of university education. Unfortunately, the demand for university education has not translated into infrastructural expansion of universities. While university intake continues to grow at an alarming rate, funding for universities including libraries continue to diminish. An option taken by many universities to meet increased demand for higher education has been to invest in distance education. This option has its own challenges. Distance learning like residential programmes, require adequate financial investment in print and electronic information resources; and ICT infrastructure. Since libraries in Kenya are underfunded, they are compelled to reproduce the scarce materials available with them to serve distant learners as opposed to acquiring additional materials. This arrangement has equally serious challenges. Top on the list is copyright infringement. Without adequate exceptions and limitations to copyright restrictions, university authorities and librarians are likely to be charged for infringement.

Abstract:
Thomas Peter Ruffell Laslett (1915–2001), a Fellow of the British Academy, spent much of his childhood in Oxford but his secondary education took place in the Grammar School at Watford, where his father had become minister. In 1935, Laslett went up to St John’s College at the University of Cambridge to read history, graduating with a double first in 1938. In 1947, he married Janet Crockett Clark, who provided the secure and happy foundation for all his other activities over the next half century. From his childhood, well before showing any special aptitude for formal historical study, Laslett was intensely fascinated by the past inhabitants of England. His work on John Locke produced two enduring achievements: an edition of the Two Treatises of Government and a catalogue of Locke’s library. He also exerted a wider influence upon political theory by his editorship of a series of collections of essays devoted to the changing status and vitality of political thinking.

Abstract:
The study examines the sermon discourse as a new discourse practice brought about by the language and cultural contacts in the 17th century in the Polish-Lithuanian State. The Polish texts by Piotr Skarga, Tomasz Młodzianowski, Franciczek Dzielowski and others exerted an impact on the lexis, type of text creation, communicative and stylistic features in the Ruthenian sermon in the 17th century. That impact prompted Antonii Radyvylovskyi to employ some Polonisms and Latinisms in diffeent parts of his sermons. The article traces lexical variability and its language and cultural ‘functionali-ty’ in the early book by A. Radyvylovskyi, one of the most famous preachers of the 17th century. The paper compares functioning of Polish and Latin (through Polish transmission) lexemes characterizing the discourse dimension of the 17th century lan-guage and cultural interference in the manuscript, the edited text, and the published book Vinets Khrystov (The Wreath of Christ). The number of such lexemes turns out to be the biggest in the manuscript by A. Radyvylovskyi, which demonstrates the level of language interference in the sermon discourse. The study analyzes the substitutions of Latinisms and Polonisms introduced by the editor of the collection Vinets Khrystov (The Wreath of Christ) who offered his corrections and amendments to the text. The substitutions made by the editor were taken into account in the printed book that was a prerequisite for its appearance in 1688. On the editor’s recommendations found in the manuscript, the published book retained substitutions of some Latin and Polish words with Church Slavonic ones. Such substitutions were caused by the change of the socio-cultural situation in the 1680s; however, those substitutions were just few apparent elements, which, actually, did not change the language of the sermon (kazanie), used in the 17th century. The language and cultural intersections of Polish and Ruthenian preaching practices increased the spatial (the Polish-Lithuanian State) and temporal (17th and 18th centuries) spread of the collection of sermons by Antonii Radyvylovskyi. In the 17th and 18th centuries, his books were actively spread and became popular readings for those speaking the Ruthenian language, which is proven by the availability of his books in the library of the Holy Trinity Monastery in Vilnius, the library of Wroclaw and others.
