Abstract:
The paper presents the analytical information about the development of exhibition activity in Moscow as an information, communication and intellectual resources of socio-economic development of the region. On the basis of extensive statisticsthe author traced the dynamics of quantitative and qualitative development indexes of the sphere of exhibition and fair activities, which directly depends on the state of economics and investment activity in the territory. Exhibitions and fairs in Moscow is one of the most important sectors of the economy of the city, that largely determines the socio-economic and cultural development of the capital. 15 exhibition venues of the capital annually hold approximately 550 exhibition events with international participation, including the ones proposed by foreign organizations. The main trend in recent years has been to move many exhibitions fromunspecialized platforms and poorly equipped exhibition centers to complexes of international level. In Moscow exhibition centers that meet international standards are Expocenter and Crocus Expo. Moscow has 943.2 thousand square meters of exhibition spaces. Another feature of Moscow exhibition market is the prevalence of specialized and highly specialized exhibitions. The market of trade exhibitions and fairs develops more in the direction of B2B, i.e. business to business. Whereas regional-level activities are mainly targeted at fi nal customers. An important aspect of the exhibition-fair and congress activities is its socio-economic orientation, that providesfor increased business activity in the regions, development of regional economies, eff ective market positioning of territories, creation of new jobs and permanent employment in the region’s infrastructure. The author concludes that there is a need for state regulation of the exhibition activity, development and improvement of the regulatory and legal framework for its regulation.

Abstract:
PurposeTo establish how and why exhibition managers manage circulation, this study explores the techniques (specific activities used to influence circulation), outputs (tangible enhancements in the performance of the exhibition resulting from changes in circulation dynamics) and outcomes (benefits of those enhancements to exhibitors, attendees and the exhibition organiser) of circulation management.Design/methodology/approachIn face-to-face interviews, 10 exhibition managers were asked how and why they manage attendee circulation, which also involved a card-sorting exercise to elicit tacit circulation management knowledge. Four different experienced exhibitions managers from three continents were asked to validate the findings.FindingsFour types of techniques were identified: magnet, layout, curiosity and playfulness and guiding techniques, with these implemented to achieve five outputs: greater footfall, better exposure to exhibits, enhanced navigation, greater buzz and managing congestion levels. The results further show that circulation was managed to achieve a variety of organiser-, exhibitor- and attendee-related outcomes. The study uncovered a large range of factors influencing the employment of circulation management techniques. Conflicts in outputs resulting from several techniques are highlighted, requiring the exhibition manager to establish which outputs and resulting outcomes take priority over others.Originality/valueThis exploratory study is the first study to propose a circulation management model for the exhibition context, equipping exhibition managers with knowledge to strategically manage attendee circulation.

Abstract:
COVID-19 has shifted people’s activities from the real world to the virtual world in many fields, such as conferences, shopping, education, and more. In the field of MICE, however, exhibitions have been held steadily since the second half of 2020 in the form of on-site exhibitions. The exhibition organizers and related authorities have tried to attract exhibitors and visitors to the exhibition hall by providing exhibition quarantine services. Moreover, despite various perceived risks during the COVID-19 period, exhibition visitors continue to visit the exhibition. This study, therefore, paid attention to the psychological factors of visitors who consistently visit on-site exhibitions even during the pandemic. In addition to the perceived risks, this study tried to examine the quality of exhibition quarantine services and switching intention of visitors, and to analyze the relationships between them. A survey of 167 people who visited the camping exhibition and well-food exhibition held in June 2021 found that they would not visit the exhibition due to the functional and financial risk of the exhibition rather than the risk of the virus. On the other hand, it was found that visitors who felt the social risk of COVID-19 valued the quality of exhibition quarantine service. Furthermore, the study found that the quarantine service quality lowered switching intention. Therefore, the study suggests that exhibition organizers should think about ways to strengthen the most essential characteristics of on-site exhibitions along with appropriate quarantine measures to induce steady visits even during the pandemic.

Creative holography could still be considered a fringe medium or methodology, compared to mainstream art activities. Unsurprisingly, work using this technology continues to be shown together with other holographic works. This paper examines the merits of exhibiting such works alongside other media. It also explores how this can contribute to the development of a personal critical framework and a broader analytical discourse about creative holography. The perceived limitations of showing holograms in a “gallery ghetto” are explored using early critical art reviews about these group exhibitions. An international exhibition, which toured the United Kingdom (UK) and Australia, is used as a framework to expand the discussion. These exhibitions include examples of the author’s holographic work and those of artists working with other (non-holographic) media and approaches. The touring exhibition as a transient, research-informed process is investigated, as is its impact on the critical development of work using holography as a valid medium, approach, and methodology in the creative arts.

Abstract:
The object of analysis in this study is exhibition and trade fair activities in Ukraine and abroad. It is argued that in contemporary realia, exhibition and trade fair activities is a crucial strategic element in building marketing communications. The research results on the development trends of modern exhibition business in Ukraine suggest that the exhibition industry is still in its infancy. The findings reveal the sector-specific issues. In particular, among the key challenges are the following: insufficient exhibition infrastructure development, the lack of transparency of the exhibition market, the lack of experience in the most effective use of this type of product promotion, etc. Based on statistical analysis and the legal regulatory framework review, the key exhibition business development trends in Ukraine have been presented along with identifying the major factors hindering the exhibition industry development. From this perspective, a conclusion has been drawn about the conceptual and terminological immaturity in the area of carrying out exhibition and trade fair activities in Ukraine. An emphasis is also put on the profound effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the exhibition industry globally. The study results demonstrate evidence of a significant decline in economic performance in this industry; in particular, this refers to a drastic decrease in companies’ income, a drop in investment flows, and costs of organizing exhibition events. Modern business environment is facing dramatic changes in exhibition and trade fair management, especially in the context of digital technologies advancements. A shift in priorities is a forced necessity, since virtual events is the safest method to promote companies and brands. Investing in virtual participation remains a key element in the survival plan of many exhibitions. The study discusses the need to design a strategy to boost exhibition activities in Ukraine, with due regard to the national socioeconomic development specifics along with suggesting priority measures to support the exhibition industry, such as affordable loans, tax «holidays» to ensure liquidity, long-term support in the form of direct subsidies which will contribute to sales and exhibition services market recovery, as well as further economic development in Ukraine.

Abstract:
The article provides insights into the role of exhibitions in managing innovative development of enterprises in various industries, with or without consideration of risks posed by the COVID crisis. Based on the results of previous research, the findings reveal that the process of innovation development management should involve management decisions made both on each of its structural elements separately and overall. An emphasis is put that the choice of company innovative development strategy and its market promotion strategy for products / services affect the significance and relevance of company exhibition participation as well as the need to plan the exhibition participation costs. The results of the survey of managers and executives in various sectors of the economy who participated in exhibitions during 2019-2020 demonstrate that these costs might also depend on the exhibition objectives and the formats perceived by managers within the overall plan of company innovative development management. The study discusses the major exhibition participation goals in the framework of implementing alternative strategies of enterprise innovative development along with providing evidence that exhibition participation is of the highest priority in case of implementing a novel strategy, and the lowest – in case of using a retro-innovation strategy. The case studies from the selected companies of consumer goods industries presented the goals and a brief description of the specifics of their participation in exhibitions in the process of managing their innovative development. The conclusion has verified that the exhibition participation priorities in the process of enterprise innovative development management vary significantly subject to industry affiliation and the selected strategy for innovative development as well as may result from various restrictions imposed by a pandemic, in particular. Apart from the above, the findings have identified the risks of exhibition activities during the COVID period and outlined anticipated trends of change in business decisions as to exhibition participation. It is argued that online exhibitions have proved a good alternative to traditional exhibitions activities, however they challenge the application of advanced digital technologies. The results of this study can be used to enhance enterprise innovative development management practices.

Congress and exhibition activities are an effective means of promoting scientific and innovative development in institutions of higher education. The present research objective was to identify the main problems of managing congress and exhibition activities at universities. The paper focuses on various problems relevant for technical universities of Saint-Petersburg. It describes the experience of Peter the Great Polytechnic University, Saint-Petersburg Mining University, and the National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics, and Optics. The author compiled a list of recommendations and principles of management to be used by technical universities when organizing congresses and exhibitions. The proposed model covers different approaches to congress activities, forms of scientific activity, management structure of international services, and regulatory documents. Universities have neither regulatory framework nor separate service responsible for this type of activity. Students, employees, and most academics lack necessary skills in foreign languages and cross-cultural communication. Moreover, they do not get motivational and stimulating support, hence the lack of initiative. Students and academics receive little information about scientific events. Most employees simply do not know how to organize congresses and conferences. This network of problems needs a comprehensive approach.

Laser exhibition technology has been widely used in the virtual environment of exhibitions and shows, as well as in the physical conference and exhibition centers. However, the speckle issue due to the high coherence of laser sources has caused harmful impacts on image quality, which is one of the obstacles to exhibition effects. In this paper, we design a compact Nd:YAG/PPMgLN laser module at 561.5 nm and use two different types of big-core multi-mode fibers to lower the spatial coherence. According to our experiment, the speckle contrasts relating to these two types reduce to 7.9% and 4.1%, respectively. The results of this paper contribute to improving the application effects of key optical components in the exhibitions. Only in this way can we provide technical supports and service guarantee for the development of the exhibition activities, and an immersive interactive experience for the audiences.

Abstract:
The exhibition industry, despite its relative novelty, is actively developing and interacting with all sectors of the global and national economies. International exhibitions offer producers and exporters ways of developing new markets, displaying samples of goods, services and technologies. For the government, supporting exhibitors, both inside the country and internationally, has turned into one of the organizational forms of pursuing their most important economic interests. Due to the objective trends and in furtherance of national interests it has become necessary to develop a strategy for the development of the exhibition and trade fair industry, to determine its priorities with competitive advantages and to create integrated program/projectbased mechanisms for its implementation. A current trend in the development of the new industry consists in various forms and methods of its support at both the federal and regional levels. The issue of regulation and standardization of the exhibition industry, and training professional personnel has also been on the agenda. The fragmentary and discrete approach to creating standards for exhibition and fair activities should be replaced by comprehensive management. At the national level, it is also necessary to implement a systemic unified approach to financial motivation and compensation for costs of participation in exhibitions, and to use other support measures as aimed at both organizers of international exhibitions and exhibition facilities. The specified development trends of the brand-new exhibition and trade fair industry are being discussed in this paper.

Abstract:
The article analyzes a work of the first interwar art association ― the Circle of Ukrainian Art Figures (HDUM) in the field of exhibition organization. It reveals the role of this society in consolidating the Ukrainian artists living and working in Western (Polish-controlled), and Great (Soviet) Ukraine. About 30 publications reflecting a reception of exhibitions of HDUM by critics and Lviv public have been introduced into scholarly circulation. A little-researched aspect is yet how creative efforts of the HDUM were received by its contemporaries, as well as by the Ukrainian press. Therefore our article aims to present the overview of activities of the association on the basis of content of the Ukrainian (mainly, Lviv) publications of the 1920s ― the newspapers «Hromadskyi Vistnyk», «Dilo», magazines «Literaturno-Naukovyi Vistnyk», «Mytusa», «Nova Ukraina», «Ukrayins’ke Mystetsvo». HDUM was founded in Lviv on 28 December 1921 thanks to an initiative of the well-known Lviv art critic Mykola Golubets’ and émigré artists Petro Kholodnyi (Elder) and Pavlo Kozhun. One of the key principles of the Society was to shape national identity in artists’ circles and ordinary citizens. Pursuing this aim, HDUM actively conducted exhibiting work. Specifically, every exhibition was followed by issuing a catalog. According to the press reports of that time, the first two Ukrainian art exhibitions took place in the halls of the Museum of Shevchenko Scientific Society. They received positive press coverage. All Ukrainian artists wishing to participate in these exhibitions were invited regardless of direction or art school they represented, as well as the HDUM affiliation. The next shows were on display in the halls of the National Museum. The public had felt some tension already during the third expo organization, and the next one didn’t match expectations of its organizers and wide public explicitly. Consequently, active initiatives of the association were gradually curtailed, although it formally continued to be operational yet for three years. Abstract:
The sustainability improvement of museums and exhibitions is a recent concern for multiple organisations. The application of sustainability criteria is one of the most important strategies of innovation in design activities, products, and service systems. This study analyses the sustainability of two alternatives to an itinerant cultural exhibition service. The exhibition travels to 12 destinations over 3 years and is within a space of 300 m2. In the first alternative, the contents are printed and exposed on a physical medium, and in the second, audiovisual media projects the contents on the walls. Life cycle sustainability assessment is applied to evaluate the impacts in the environmental dimension and the economic and social dimensions. The calculation of indicators, such as the greenhouse gas emissions, total costs, and working time, which are referred to each sustainability dimension, is conducted. A descriptive, comparative study was performed to identify the impact factors with a higher incidence. The results demonstrate that the audiovisual exhibition is more sustainable than the printed exhibition, with a difference of 8.7%, 7%, and 6.6% in GWP100, CE, and TW indicators, respectively.

Abstract:
An innovative component of modern library-information education should become a trend, in which frames it is possible not only to compact and intensify the study of professional issues, but also to shape tools for future professional activities in the innovation logic of an effective character. This in turn requires integrating multiple types of work in a holistic format. A master class on modeling personal exhibitions and its results in developing problems of reading study with application of bibliographic reconstruction and knowledge mapping is chosen as one of these formats. In the master class course a complex of tasks was solved. Among them are the following: developing the strategy of exhibition modeling, its understanding according to the completeness of information and its degree of semantic coagulation as a way to learn and present information in the exhibition format; forming the communicative culture in the exhibition presentation process; improving analytical skills, creative thinking, and improvement of psychologic-pedagogical professionalism through familiarization with the personal contribution of a scientist related to readers study; the acquisition of knowledge and skills to map knowledge. The exhibition was carried out in several stages in the logic «from simple to complex» and starts with learning the exhibition structural design options, their semantic and color solutions; exploring the scientist contribution based on the bibliographic description of publications, annotations and abstracts, later on the basis of studying publications themselves and citation. The latter allows not only to map its content in different ways, but also to build the professional communication sociometric matrix. As a result of this master class with elements of a business game students acquire specific knowledge (in our case readers’ study); a various options of a personal exhibition intelligent-information products are created; the specialist intellectual capacity grows significantly, cognitive and metacognitive skills of specialists are developed; methodological knowledge based on innovative search activities is formed. The heuristic potential of the master class lies in the fact that the tendency to internal resources of a personality determining the propensity to innovate in their professional activities is clearly expressed in the world and domestic science.
