Abstract:
This study focused on the relationship between exigency management strategies and employee performance in selected Manufacturing firms in Akwa Ibom State. The main objective of this study was to ascertain the relationship between exigency management dimensions of exigency signal detection and exigency planning and employee performance in selected Manufacturing firms in Akwa Ibom State. In line with the research objective was the research questions and hypothesis. Survey research design was adopted for the study and a sample size of 275 respondents was drawn from the population using Taro Yamane’s technique. The major instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire administered to the respondent using stratified sampling techniques. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage and Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Results showed a significant positive relationship between each of the four dimensions of between exigency signal detection (Rx2= 0. 747**; n= 258; p= 0.000) and exigency planning (Rx3= 0. 770**; n= 258; p= 0.000) and employee performance in selected manufacturing firms in Akwa Ibom State. It was concluded that exigency signal detection, and exigency planning, are interpersonal dimensions that can influence employee performance of manufacturing firms in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Based on the finding, it was recommended that manufacturing firms in Akwa Ibom State should establish clear protocols for escalating potential exigency signals and should also ensure cross-departmental collaboration so that weak signals are not overlooked.

Abstract:
Abstract The medical research and training enterprise in the United States is complex in both its scope and implementation. Accordingly, adaptations to the associated workforce needs present particular challenges. This is particularly true for maintaining or expanding national needs for physician-scientists where training resource requirements and competitive transitional milestones are substantial. For the individual, these phenomena can produce financial burden, prolong the career trajectory, and significantly influence career pathways. Hence, when national data suggest that future medical research needs in a scientific area may be met in a less than optimal manner, strategies to expand research and training capacity must follow. This article defines such an exigency for research and training in nonneoplastic hematology and presents potential strategies for addressing these critical workforce needs. The considerations presented herein reflect a summary of the discussions presented at 2 workshops cosponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the American Society of Hematology.

Abstract:
Abstract. This paper develops three analytical categories – range, supporting capacity, exigency/notability – to capture how supra-individual phenomena affect the people studied by empirical research. Researchers face a tension between constructivist and realist perspectives as the examined phenomena are simultaneously social constructs, in the way people perceive and understand them, and social facts in their consequences. Taking a critical perspective on the notion of large social phenomena – popularized by Theodore Schatzki – the paper develops an explorative terminology that aims to facilitate practice-oriented field research. Examples of empirical research on transition and degrowth initiatives illustrate how research subjects estimate the range of a phenomenon by trying to grasp whether they are in or out of its reach; the supportive capacity of a phenomenon by exploring how far it carries certain processes; and they experience the exigency of a phenomenon and ascribe a certain notability to it. Taken together, this terminology grasps the way phenomena are matters of concern, rather than matters of fact, for the research subjects.

Abstract:
AbstractThroughout the globe, healthcare providers are increasingly challenged with the specter of terrorism and the fallout from weapons of mass destruction. Preparing for and responding to such manmade emergencies, however, threatens the ethical underpinnings of routine, individualized, patient-centered, emergency healthcare. The exigency of a critical incident can instantly transform resource rich environs, to those of austerity. Healthcare workers, who only moments earlier may have been seeing two to three patients per hour, are instantly thrust into a sea of casualties and more basic lifeboat issues of quarantine, system overload and the thornier determinations of who will be given every chance to live and who will be allowed to die. Beyond the tribulations of triage, surge capacity, and the allocation of scarce resources, terrorism creates a parallel need for a host of virtues not commonly required in daily medical practice, including prudence, courage, justice, stewardship, vigilance, resilience, and charity. As a polyvalent counterpoint to the vices of apathy, cowardice, profligacy, recklessness, inflexibility, and narcissism, the virtues empower providers at all levels to vertically integrate principles of safety, public health, utility, and medical ethics at the micro, meso, and macro levels. Over time, virtuous behavior can be modeled, mentored, practiced, and institutionalized to become one of our more useful vaccines against the threat of terrorism in the new millennium.

Abstract:
Abstract The increasing deprivation, neglect and orchestrated politics of exclusion by the Nigerian-state against the people of the Niger Delta can be traced to the structurally-defective and centralized governance arrangements in the Niger Delta. The consequent stiff resistance, violent reactions, militancy and hostage taking triggered by this politics of exclusion in the region have confirmed that people matter in politics. This paper argues that in some ways, the weakness of centralized and structurally-defective governance in the Niger Delta provides an opportunity for community self-governing institutions to play the role that governments and their agencies have abandoned. Using the Institutional Analysis and Development (IAD) framework, this paper engages in problem solving and solution seeking strategies that could help restructure the public sphere in the Niger Delta. This paper demonstrates principles and practices needed to make polycentric planning, self-governance and adaptive development strategies resolve socio-economic and political crisis. It is in light of this exigency that this paper develops an African Public Sphere Restructuring Model (APSRM) that derives inspirations and workability mechanisms from twelve (12) African development models that cut across several sectors of the economy in the Niger Delta.

The walls of downtown Buenos Aires displayed a new and haunting image in the weeks before the inauguration of President Raúl Alfonsín in December, 1983: black, outlined silhouettes of human beings, each accompanied by a name. The ghost-like figures represented those who had ‘disappeared’ in the military's proclaimed ‘war against subversion’. They testified silently but eloquently to the memory of the victims of that experience in the thoughts of many Argentines, and foreshadowed what was to become one of the most vexing political problems for the new civilian government. Among the many difficulties bequeathed to President Alfonsín by the military juntas who ruled Argentina for the eight preceding years, first among these in ethical exigency was the question of what to do concerning los desaparecidos.

Introduction: The success of anterior rehabilitation requires more skills than knowledge. It is necessary that the professional has updates on a new approach to obtain the best result considering the high degree of the exigency of these cases. The relationship between red and white esthetic is known and consolidated in the literature. Then, to achieve success in an esthetic smile is indispensable to apply periodontal surgery associated with restorative technique. Methods: In this report, a 28-year-old female patient sought care in a private clinic with a major cosmetic complaint due to disproportion of the clinical crown and gingival smile. Result: After planning, a clinical crown increase was performed, followed by the labial repositioning technique after the healing time of the initial surgery. Conclusion: It can be concluded that some of the surgical techniques, demonstrated in the literature, for gingival correction are feasible when correctly indicated. The best esthetic results will be achieved when the professional can understand the necessity to correct the disharmony of white and red esthetic.

Marketing plays a key role in society as a whole. Sports marketing encompasses all processes for creating and delivering value and transmitting its message, starting from the specific conditions in which relationships between market players are formed and how it affected the success of sport clubs and sporting events. In a large number of sports clubs, there is still no systematic application of marketing. The paper deals with the application of marketing in Dubrovnik sport clubs s been developed. The survey was conducted by a deep interview with leading people of the most successful Dubrovnik sport clubs and with the Secretary of the Dubrovnik Association of Sports. The causes of non-implementation of planning and systematic marketing application in the sports facilities in Dubrovnik, current marketing activity, problems encountered and the guidelines for a better understanding of the importance of marketing in sports were presented thereto. The research has confirmed that there is no systematic application of marketing in Dubrovnik sports facilities and that marketing activity activities are mostly reduced to numerous forms of marketing communication with the target market segments. Management awareness of the importance of sports marketing is developed, club leaders and Association point out the exigency to establish marketing departments within clubs, but in practice this has not yet been realized. Along with lack of financial resources, insufficient understanding of marketing as a business philosophy is one of the main reasons for not applying systematic marketing practices to sports facilities. To successfully manage marketing in sports facilities, it is crucial to engage sports marketing professionals/managers, but at the same time keep in mind that this is a club comprehensive initiative that drives its vision, mission, and strategic planning.

Abstract:
Feeder ports in archipelago of the sub-region of BIMP EAGA often face challenges in terms of connectivity due to the dispersed nature of the islands. Realizing the untapped economic potential in the area and the robust geopolitical landscape that has taken place in the last decades, there is an exigency of the countries in BIMP EAGA to improve their port to be the preferred choice by shipping lines. A port's competitiveness holds a paramount significance for shipping lines to call a certain port. Thus, this study aims to examine the perspective of Main Line Operators (MLO) on level of importance of the competitiveness of ports in BIMP EAGA, especially Sapangar Bay Container Port. Ten Main line Operators (MLO) of Intra Asia were selected to respond to the questionnaires using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The result revealed that the MLO ranked the most important attributes from top to bottom were port efficiency and facilities (EP), port pricing and support services (PP), Hinterland Characteristics (HC), Maritime Accessibility (MA) and lastly Institutional Regulatory (IR). The specific priorities and preferences of shipping lines in this sub-region may be influenced by factors such as trade patterns, port infrastructure, market demands and overall competitiveness of the ports in the region. Findings of this study contribute to the general understanding of port competitiveness in the BIMP EAGA from the perspective of the MLO and may guide the policymakers, port authorities and industry stakeholders in addressing the specific needs and prioritizing their strategic planning to improve the port

Abstract:
Corporate enterprises in British Southern Cameroons as in most African territories under colonial rule were dominated for the most part by non-nationals. After the independence and reunification of British Southern Cameroons with the Republic of Cameroon on 1st October 1961, there was a visible paradigm shift in the actors and scope of intervention of corporate business life in Anglophone Cameroon, the territory roughly representing the erstwhile British Southern Cameroons. The Social and economic needs of the new state in office structures, hotels, transportation and the increased exigency for public utilities, gave room for fresh business opportunities. This resulted in the birth of indigenous business companies prominent among which was the famed Nangah Company limited. Though this company became the symbol of indigenous entrepreneurship in Anglophone Cameroon in the 1960s and 1970s, it became a victim of “problematic” liquidation in the 1980s largely as a result of political manipulation. It is centrally in this context that this paper mostly drawing from primary historical sources and employing a descriptive and analytical approach, examines the political influences involved in the rise and eventual collapse of the Nangah Company. The findings revealed that the backbone of the speedy ascendancy of the Nangah Company was the Kamerun National Democratic Party (KNDP) support given that the main shareholders of the company were financial benefactors of the KNDP Party. The paper equally disclosed that, following the putting in place of a one party state in 1966 and later the Unitary State in 1972, political suspicion and social clashes between D. A. Nangah and President Amadou Ahidjo, led to the political victimization of the Nangah Company. This personality differences partly contributed to ushering the company to a calamitous demise. It also emerged from the investigation that, the Nangah Company was entangled by the double matrix of the inability by the .........

International Journal of Event and Festival Management 8, no. 2 (2017): 151–71. http://dx.doi.org/10.1108/ijefm-06-2016-0053.

Abstract:
Purpose The music festival industry is challenged by intense competition and financial exigency. As a result, many festivals have either folded or are currently struggling. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to show that motivator-hygiene-professional (MHP) strategic capabilities (SCs) are positively associated with quality music festival management thereby providing a playbook for potentially mitigating these challenges. Design/methodology/approach The mixed methods research design comprised a case study of a leading event management company as well as nation-wide in-depth interviews and questionnaire survey. The authors initially confirmed the nature of the challenges to the industry from the case study and the in-depth interviews. The authors then developed an MHP Model of 15 SCs that were identified from the literature and the qualitative research. The relationship of the MHP SCs model to quality music festival management was tested in the questionnaire survey. Findings The respondents suggested that all the SCs were related to quality music festival management. However, Professional SCs were considered comparatively less important than motivator and hygiene SCs. Across all three groups, interviewees highlighted the significance of artists, site and operational planning, financial and stakeholder management and ticket pricing. In addition, careful planning, delegation and quality focus, problem solving, resolve and flexibility, leadership and vision, communication and innovation were considered conducive to the quality management of music festival organisations. Practical implications The MHP SCs model and dimensions of quality management offer music festival event managers a detailed practical playbook for moderating challenges to music festival management. In essence the authors provide the specific drivers that festival managers should best focus their attention upon. Visionary leadership, artist differentiation, innovation, customer service and flexible management have priority. Originality/value The findings add to the festival management literature by demonstrating the importance of motivator, hygiene and additional professional SCs for moderating challenges to the music festival industry. To the best of authors’ knowledge, no previous studies have directly investigated specific SCs critical for quality event and festival management. In particular, the academic significance of this paper is that the authors have combined Herzberg’s motivator and hygiene factors with SCs, which are in essence success drivers, to create a novel holistic MHP SCs model for quality music festival management. Further explanatory insight is gained by the addition of a third factor of professional SCs.

Abstract:
The escalating prevalence of multimorbidity within aging populations necessitates the development of coordinated healthcare strategies capable of addressing the intricate and interrelated healthcare needs of affected individuals. These strategies must actively enhance care coordination, optimize communication and collaboration among healthcare providers, ensure the seamless continuity of care across diverse settings, and promote greater patient engagement in decision-making processes. A paradigm shift from vertical single-disease management to horizontally integrated care models is necessary for meeting the complex demands posed by multimorbidity. This study aimed to create a holistic approach to the encounter with patients with multimorbidity. Methodology: The research is based on an action research design, wherein healthcare providers, patients, caregivers, and researchers actively participated in a series of four workshops. These workshops serve the dual purpose of identifying prevailing gaps in the extant healthcare system and formulating strategic interventions to address these lacunae. The proceedings of these workshops are meticulously recorded and subjected to thematic analysis. Results: Thematic analysis of the workshop deliberations reveals five salient themes: 1. In-depth Knowledge Acquisition: Emphasizing the imperative of acquiring comprehensive insights into each other's practices and routine to bolster the continuity of care across sectors. 2. Involvement of Patients and relatives: Highlighting the initiation of cross-sectoral dialogues, particularly concerning discharge planning at the hospital level, and addressing the dearth of expectations for the relatives post-hospitalization. 3. Information Accessibility and Meaningfulness: Identifying challenges associated with information exchange across sectors and underscoring the need for disseminating contextually meaningful information. Especially important that they share information they need to know and not only nice to know from the other part. 4. Cross-Sector Collaboration: Expressing the necessity for lucid cooperation and the cultivation of a cohesive culture among healthcare professionals to mitigate misunderstandings. 5. Shared Understanding of Care: Recognizing disparate perspectives between hospital and home care, underscoring the need for a mutual understanding of the care continuum. Conclusion: Based on a co-creative process involving patients, relatives and stakeholders across care sectors, a research-informed circular care approach emerges as a viable solution to enhance cross-sectoral care for multimorbid patients. This approach advocates for relationally coordinated support within a sustainable and coherent framework. The study underscores the dearth of well-established models employing a holistic approach to multimorbid patient care, underscoring the exigency for further research in this domain. Currently, we are testing the circular care approach. An ongoing study will clarify how a circular care approach can be used in integrated care. The framework of this study is a cross-sectoral video conference with patients with multimorbidity beyond their hospital admission. At ICIC24 we will share our experience and results from using a circular care approach.

Abstract:
Industry 4.0 proposes the incorporation of information technologies at all levels of the production process. By incorporating these technologies, Industry 4.0 provides new tools for production planning processes, allowing to address problems in an innovative and efficient manner. From these technologies and tools, it is that in this work a One-of-a-Kind Production (OKP) process is approached, where the products tend to be highly customized. OKP implies working with a very large variability within production, demanding very efficient planning systems. For this, a planning model based on CONWIP-type strategies was proposed, which seeks to level the production of a shop floor configured in the form of a job shop. Even more, for having a more realistic shop-floor representation, machine failures have been included in the model. In turn, different dispatching rules were proposed to study the performance and analyze the behaviour of the system. From the results obtained, it is observed that, when the production demand is very exigent in relation with the capacity of the system, the dispatching rules that analyze the workload generated by each job tend to perform better. However, when the demand on the capacity of the production system is less intense, the rules associated with due dates are the ones that obtain the best results.

Abstract:
Abstract.

Abstract:
Contrasts and syntheses: Rhetorical images of garden citiesEbenezer Howard’s book Garden Cities of To-Morrow is not only a treatise on urban planning or a modern utopia, but also a rhetorical case, using carefully built argumentation scheme. The aim of this article is to show how Howard’s ideas are presented and supported, and how his whole work is centered around the romantic notion that “extremes meet”. Both Howard and Polish interpreters of his ideas presented garden cities as a remedy for urgent problems Lloyd F. Bitzer’s “exigence”. Their opinions on what exactly these problems are were, however, different. For Howard the most important aim was to draw people back to the country and provide them with cheaper, more comfortable houses. For Władysław Dobrzyński, the chief propagator of garden cities in Poland, the main problem were health conditions in Warsaw. The city is presented as ultimate evil, so the “marriage” between the country and the town is not possible and in fact not desired. Thus, Polish journalists and activists who tried to make Howard’s idea attractive to popular public, reversed his course of reasoning. In their visions extremes not only do not meet, but are radically separated. The city and the country, work and free time, gardens and industry are polar opposites. They can be reconciled not in actual, physical space, but only by leading a “double life”, shared between working in a city and living in an idyllic country refuge.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The global SARS-COV-2 pandemic has significantly impacted the delivery of clinical care as well as the conduct of international clinical trials. A coordinated, multinational acupuncture study, consisting of three parallel randomized studies with a planned pooled analysis of individual patient data, was initiated in 2019 with the goal of assessing whether acupuncture relieved hot flash symptoms in hormone receptor-positive breast cancer patients prescribed adjuvant endocrine therapy. Eligibility included persistent hot flashes on endocrine therapy. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either immediate or delayed acupuncture in equal proportions; the primary endpoint was assessed at week 10, after completion of the immediate acupuncture treatments and before the delayed treatment sessions began. The trial was conducted in China, South Korea and United States of America (USA) and was in the midst of enrollment and study procedures when the COVID-19 pandemic began. Despite numerous challenges, the study was nonetheless completed successfully. We deployed a process evaluation method to describe each site’s experiences in conducting this multinational study during the pandemic. Using these observations, we offer measures for the planning and conduct of future studies, taking into account preparedness considerations in the event of exigent and demanding global circumstances.

Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the noise profiles of helicopters and eVTOLs at heliports and vertiports in order to support site planning and the development of local land-use compatibility guidelines. Design/methodology/approach: This study used existing helicopter and eVTOL sound profiles to develop noise distribution contours for heliports and vertiports. This study collected noise data from available studies on helicopters and eVTOLs. This data was then entered into dBmap noise mapping tool to develop noise maps for helicopters and eVTOLs. Three air transit facility configurations for each aircraft category were analyzed: open (unobstructed), urban, and rooftop. Two additional vertiport configurations were created by overlaying building and noise data with Google Earth imagery. Noise data was entered into dBmap for processing. Noise contours were mapped for three configurations for both aircraft categories.Findings: Key observations from the noise distribution analysis showed that open (unobstructed) facility configurations have even noise distributions for both eVTOLs and helicopters. Noise maps for urban locations showed areas of attenuation and asymmetrical patterns due to the interactions of sound waves with surrounding buildings. An analysis of a rooftop installation of a heliport or vertiport provided some noise mitigation advantages. Noise contour distributions closely matched those outlined in previous research; however, the sound intensities modeled in this study were lower than indicated in exigent research. Assessments were also conducted for real-world sites with potential future use as vertiports in Seattle, Washington, and Chicago, Illinois.Practical Implications: This study suggests that current land use compatibility guidance may be inadequate for rotorcraft and eVTOL operations. Findings suggest the development of symmetrical noise-impact zones centered around heliports and vertiports. Examples of these zones are outlined, and recommendations for future research are provided. Local planners can use the data from this study to make educated choices about the siting of heliports and vertiports. Additionally, the findings can assist planners in the development of zoning and land use compatibility standards.Social Implications: Land use compatibility standards for heliports and vertiports will help ensure a synergistic relationship between local communities and these air transit facilities. The data from this study can also help protect individuals from excessive noise and annoyance.Originality/value: This study is one of the few on this topic and the only known research on noise distributions of helicopters and eVTOLs with a particular focus on land use compatibility

Abstract:

Abstract:
