In this paper, I put forward four theses and one coda. The theses can be summarized as follows:Thesis one (section B): Five crises, not one. The European Union is not undergoing one crisis, but is instead suffering several simultaneous, interrelated, and intertwined crises—crises, which are global, not exclusively European. Put differently, the subprime crisis turned the economic, financial, fiscal, macroeconomic, and political structure weaknesses of the Western socio-economic order into at least five major crises.

Schizophrenia is really a syndrome manifested by marked changes in the afflicted individual’s functioning, perception, thinking, and behavior. The onset can be sudden or can take many years to reach some critical threshold in which the “illness” becomes so observable forcing some type of action or intervention. It is thought to arise from gene–environmental interactions within the context of a diathesis–stress milieu. An often ignored area of inquiry by biomedical researchers and/or biological psychiatrists involves an exploration of how existential crises relate to symptoms of psychosis and h

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant mental health challenges, notably depression, which has emerged as a typical psychological response to existential crises triggered by the pandemic. This paper examines the psychological underpinnings of depression during existential crises, drawing on the theories of Ernest Becker about when individuals are confronted with uncertainty and mortality. Freud’s theory of transference explains the tendency to project one’s anxieties onto external figures, such as authority or religious entities, during times of crisis. The results imply that existentialism—a philosophy that analyses meaning, freedom, and existence—is linked to rampant environmental deterioration. This study

The author characterizes a crisis as a complex and multidimensional phenomenon. She points out the ambivalence of crises, as they can lead to a final catastrophe or create good conditions for transgression. She argues that the absence of crises might be worrying and even pathological, as it may demonstrate the avoidance of challenges and no commitment to one’s development. She refers to Theodor Adorno’s idea of partial education and indicates some of its symptoms. Against that background, some fields of educational activity are discussed. Abstract:
The turbulent events of today, posing new challenges to humanity, in turn, actualize the negative effects and provoke the growth of people's mental tension, anxiety, depression, and crisis, moreover. In contrast, in recent years, there has been a tendency among scientists to understand and conceptualize the concepts of "psychological health" and "happiness", which correspond to the desire of philosophers and psychologists to form new guidelines for overcoming and preventing these negative influences. The article provides a brief historical and theoretical review of the understanding of the con

Abstract:
The environmental crisis is increasing risks to security and peace worldwide, notably in countries that are already fragile. Indicators of insecurity such as the number of conflicts, the number of hungry people and military expenditure are rising; so are indicators of environmental decline, in climate change, biodiversity, pollution and other areas. In combination, the security and environmental crises are creating compound, cascading, emergent, systemic and existential risks. Without profound changes of approach by institutions of authority, risks will inevitably proliferate quickly. Environm

Abstract:
The climate crisis makes my future, and the future of humanity, feel alarmingly precarious. I started to develop this series as a way of documenting this sensation, the chronic fear associated with climate change. But as I began approaching people to include in the project, it became clear that we do not all conceptualize climate change in the same way. To some it feels existential, but to others it feels fabricated and to many, it feels entirely beyond human control. Portraits of a Planet in Crisis explores and documents this broad spectrum of human stories that transpire within stories of en

Abstract:
The populist moment that defined Danish politics from 2001 to 2019 has recently transitioned into what can be described as mainstream populism. Two concurrent developments drive this shift: first, the Social Democrats’ strategy to reclaim (white) working-class support by adopting populist right-wing stances on immigration and integration, and second, the existential crisis confronting the Liberals (Venstre, V) and the Conservative party (Det Konservative Folkeparti, KF), whose electoral support reached historic lows. The 2024 European Parliament elections differed significantly from those of 2

Abstract:
This report illustrates the populist performance of the Ukrainian crisis and how Radical Right populists across Europe may have seized the opportunity of the war to instrumentalize war-related economic anxieties and propagate anti-elite and anti-establishment rhetoric. Emphasizing domestic socioeconomic issues did not preclude populist Radical Right parties from using the war as an opportunity to reinforce nationalist sentiment and national pride. Many parties drew parallels between the heroism and sacrifice of the Ukrainian people in defending their nation and nationalist attitudes and devoti

Toward a Declaration on Future Generations. Blavatnik School of Government, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.35489/bsg-pb_2023/001.

Abstract:
A United Nations report, Our Common Agenda, commissioned for the international body’s 75th anniversary, proposes for states to issue a Declaration on Future Generations as a way to address the ongoing and urgent overlapping crises of the present and the deeper drivers such as climate change, technological and demographic transitions, and persistent underdevelopment. Such a Declaration should firstly define future generations, and secondly delimit a list of issues that affect them such as sustainability, responsible development of emerging technology, management of existential risks, and long-t
