Abstract:
In this article, an investigation on non-linear dynamical behaviours of a transmission system with a gear pair is conducted. The transmission system is described through an impact model with a possible stick between the two gears. From the theory of discontinuous dynamical systems, the motion mechanism of impacting chatter with stick is investigated. The onset and vanishing conditions for stick motions are developed, and the condition for maintaining stick motion is obtained as well. The corresponding physical interpretation is given for a better understanding of non-linear behaviours of gear

Our results provide a detailed picture of how visual information about motion and disparity is processed by human observers, and how this processing is modified by prolonged sensory stimulation. In its simplest form it is a conservative drift- diffusion equation for the cell density coupled to an elliptic equation for the chemo-attrac- tant concentration. It is known that, in two space dimensions, for small initial mass there is global existence of classical solutions and for large initial mass blow-up occurs. In this note we complete this picture and give an explicit value for the critical mass when the system is set in the whole space.

In sympathy with the coyote's plight, the laws of physics suspend their action. Gravity waits to exert its force until the coyote realizes his situation and resigns himself to the inevitable. Only then does the coyote fall, miraculously surviving the near-disaster without serious damage. What does this have to do with cell biology at the turn of the millennium? Contrary to popular belief, motion picture piracy is not a modern phenomenon.2 Indeed, Hollywood studios have been engaged in a continuous battle against pirates ever since theatres began showing films in the late nineteenth century.3 One of the earliest methods of motion picture piracy, for example, was the “bicycling of prints,” a practice by which a theatre operator would literally transport film reels between multiple theatres by bicycle to avoid the cost of licensing reels for each.4 With the advent of the Internet, however, the rate of motion picture piracy has increased exponentially. Yet many of the attractions which bring people into cinema theatres and, more recently, which fix their eyes to television screens for hours on end, are only illusions. Abstract Several artists, neuroscientists, and art psychologists have investigated the existence of a relationship between perceived motion and beauty in figurative and abstract paintings. In our study, we created stimulus pictures by combining the same matrices, consisting of modular stochastic polygons, to obtain regular (translational symmetry) and irregular (non-symmetry) combinations. Some of these combinations consisted of many small matrices, making it difficult to read the ‘shapes’ of stochastic polygons. Our sample consisted of both art experts and non-art experts. The Keller-Segel system describes the collective motion of cells that are attracted by a chemical substance and are able to emit it. In its simplest form it is a conservative drift- diffusion equation for the cell density coupled to an elliptic equation for the chemo-attractant concentration. It is known that, in two space dimensions, for small initial mass there is global existence of classical solutions and for large initial mass blow-up occurs. In this note we complete this picture and give an explicit value for the critical mass when the system is set in the whole space.

User-controlled supernumerary robotic limbs (SL) have been proposed to bypass the need for coordination with a partner in such tasks. However, neither the capability to control multiple limbs alone relative to collaborative control with partners, nor how that capability varies across different tasks, is well understood.
