Abstract:
Title: ”… Then came the realization that I was just like them. That I have a gambling addiction…” This is a qualitative study of four former gamblers and their experience of getting out of the gambling addiction. The study is about how individuals have overcome a gambling addiction. The purpose of this study is to examine the social processes and factors that are of importance when overcoming a gambling addiction. In addition, the study focuses on how individuals experience the change from gambling addiction to a life free of that addiction. In this thesis, I conducted a qualitative study in the form of semi-structured interviews with four former gamblers. The theoretical approach concentrated on Ebaugh’s (1988) role exit theory and Giddens’ (2005) identity formation theory has been used to illustrate the interviewees' experiences of gambling addiction and their identity as addiction free. The study shows that the gambling addiction has brought economic, social and health-related impacts and some of these aspects still exist today. The exit out of a gambling addiction has been a process with different phases and events where the process for some has been incrementally with relapses during the journey. Based on my results, the changing process appears to consist of parallel turning points where different and more significant events give rise to role exit. The study shows the need of continuous social support in combination with gambling association support efforts and the gamblers’ own insight, motivation and freedom of action. It appears that the interviewed have accepted their role that they had left behind and they take careful consideration to the past and the future and try to make more conscious choices and build their new identity. This is done by actions and re- evaluations of themselves and their world. It is based on their lives, by their own choices. However, these choices seem to be limited by conditions that occur in the interaction with the environment, social norms and social situations.

Abstract:
Title: The process of leaving a social role Author: Christine Johnsson     This paper aims to describe the process of role exit for individuals within dysfunctional families. The study begins with describing the upbringing of the individual within these families. The process of codependency inspired the approach for the study; a process that individuals go through when they leave their dysfunctional families. The theoretical approach is from Helen Rose Fuchs Ebaughs study about the process of exit a role; Becoming an ex- The process of Role exit (1988). This process that Ebaugh (1988) describes is divided into four stages. The individuals’ first step in the process is to define a doubt to the current role, the second one explains how the individual have to weigh new alternatives compared to the present situation. The third stage is about leaving the role and the fourth stage explains that the individual have to come up with an approach to the ex- role. Since this paper is about individual opinions the method that has been used is qualitative. Ten interviews has been made with individuals that grew up in dysfunctional families. The interviews were analyzed from a phenomenological approach. That means trying to understand social phenomena from the individuals’ perspective. The results presented that the informants had made a role change, they had left the dysfunctional settings and entered a new social role. Which can be compared to Ebaughs study (1988) about the process in role exiting.

Abstract:
Most entrepreneurs have families that highly influence their business activities. However, scholars have paid limited attention to how the family as a specific social context impacts entrepreneurial outcomes, such as new venture creation, firm growth, and exit from entrepreneurship. This thesis investigates how the family influences such outcomes at different levels of analysis: the individual level, the firm level, and the regional level.  The theoretical framework is developed by integrating the theory of social embeddedness with literature on family business and entrepreneurship. Empirical evidence is based on a unique multi-level Swedish database combining individual-, firm-, and regional-level data. By providing an in-depth understanding of whether the family influence pertains to the whole entrepreneurial process or only to particular entrepreneurial outcomes, this thesis contributes to a new understanding of the family’s role in entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
This study aims to find out how the way out of homelessness can look and be experienced and in what way persons with experience of being homeless might think about our society´s different solutions to this problem. The study is based on five half-structured qualitative interviews with persons who have experience of being homeless. The theoretical perspectives used to analyze the empirism are “Stages of Change” and “The Process of Role Exit”, both dealing with changing processes. Our results show that the way out of homelessness can be long and very hard to achieve, and the change in housing situation can be either a process towards a more and more stable housing or through an opportunity that suddenly appears. Another result shows that people with the experience of being homeless can be negative to the solutions offered by our society but be positive to the idea of Housing First. One conclusion is that a housing of your own can mean more for the individual than just somewhere to sleep. To have a housing of your own can lead to personal development such as trying to get rid of one´s addiction or get better relations with one´s family.

Abstract:

This thesis highlights self-harming behavior and the journey to recovery. To approach the turning point and the following process three qualitative interviews has been done. An autobiographical book has been used as an empirical data. The purpose is to distinguish how the journey to recovery can differ between diverse people. The empirical data has been illustrated by using Antonovskys theory sence of coherence, Ebaugh Fuchs process of roll exit and current research. The issued questions grounding the thesis are: is it possible to distinguish a turning point (outer and inner factors)? How important were the people surrounding the individual to find the way out? And how did society's efforts help the individual out of its behavior? The conclusions that are determined are that with all of the interviewed and the autobiographical book, a turning point can be discerned. From the stories given to us we can determine that the turning points can differ considerably. Yet another conclusion is that all of the women agree that the care effort towards these types of patients is insufficient or even non-existent. The most important part in the recovery of the interviewed is their own strength and motivation. All of these women today have new strategies on how to handle life's adversity and difficulties.

From the psychoanalytical theoretical framework, this study seeks to identify the main issues mobilized in teenagers in process of institutionally exit who are about to reach the age of majority. Through literature, we tried to understand what are the main anxieties and insecurities mobilized during this period. It was held brief review of the historical and social construction of institutional care in Brazil and an analysis of current policies and teenager s family and socioeconomic context. It was discussed the possibilities of subjectivity and construction of the sense of belonging within the institution, as well as the formation of the bond between the teenager and this space. Teenage was study by Winnicott s perspective, considering the time of transition and transformation that it represents and the condition of social vulnerability present in the studied group. Understanding the importance of the realization of a work of mourning before another break ties, repeating their earlier stories, intervention proposals were raised to assist the teenage to carry out a through this process. It was found that, in addition to professional training and housing promotion, the space creating opportunity where teens can tell their own stories is presented as necessary resource to come to appropriate them. Thus, it is intended to have the opportunity to build other roads and do not remain stuck only to repeat previous personal history and family.

Abstract:
There are fewer female entrepreneurs than their male counterparts worldwide. This disparity persists even in countries like Sweden with the highest gender equality index scores and therefore presumed to be more gender equal. Moreover, women are underrepresented in the entrepreneurship literature. With fewer studies exploring female entrepreneurs and the gender-specific challenges, they face because ofinsufficient support, financial and otherwise. Gender equality in entrepreneurship has socio-economic importance and it plays a significant role in the overall economic growth. Making entrepreneurship a crucial economic development tool for women. With previous research showing that female entrepreneurs tend to exit their ventures at a higher rate, in this study we have explored the entrepreneurial exit decisions of female entrepreneurs with a focus on Sweden. Through our qualitative study, we interviewed 10 women that had previously made an entrepreneurial exit. Our findings show that female entrepreneurs mostly exit due to voluntary reasons, which affirms previous research that has found that female entrepreneurs are more likely to exit voluntarily than male entrepreneurs for mostly personal reasons and not because of underperformance (Justo et al., 2015; Jawarna et al., 2020). Moreover, we have further explored voluntary exits and involuntary exits. With findings showing that voluntary exits happen mostly due to management-related issues, economic instability, geographic relocation, or when the entrepreneur finds what they perceive as a better opportunity. All the involuntary exits in this study were a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study contributes to the literature of entrepreneurial exit as well as gender studies with its recommendations.

Abstract:
This report describes an independent design-project with the purpose of designing a board game design process and as a result a re-design of anindependently developed board game named Northern Star, which under-gone development for three years prior to the project as a hobby-project (and may be subject to a Kickstarter at a later date).Northern Star was initially based on a competitive, strategic, card- and dice-based elements which evolved into a thematic, narrative and semi-cooperative game as a result of the project. Initially this game was developed outside the project in two prior courses (D0046A: Usability and D0051A: Context & Analysis) in which all results can be found in appendix 1). The target-group of the project were groups consisting of social circles with relatively long experience in regards to (mainly thematic) board games. The process used were mainly an agile project plan and weekly design sprints based around an iterative design process (much alike IDEOS (2015) three linear phases of inspiration, ideation and prototyping). However it was used in a non-linear way where the designer freely choose of which of the three phases that was to be used. During the inspiration-phase substantial amounts of data were recorded in a pre-study (see appendix 1) as well as user-needs (see appendix 2) were a benchmark led the designer to a design-specification (which also resulted in a new method in regards to board game design processes) were the projects core-values were defined guiding further development of Northern Star. This was followed by a cyclic process in which a concept were generated for Northern Star which led to rapid prototyping and the realization of a physical product, tested duringworkshops. Here the participants gave feedback in the form of discussions, surveys and video-footage for later analysis which added for additional inspiration in which the cyclic process began anew. This process lead to a re-design of Northern Star (briefly mentioned above) were an interactive board game box allowed for an organic game-play system evolving over time with a lot of focus given on player-interaction, meaningful choice, few components as well as immersion in the form of a graphically rich representation of the theme.A new design-process were developed and given the name: Exit: A board game design process in which a lot of focus was given human-centered and participatory design (supported by the theoretical framework and the project-results). This was realizedas a board game where the designers goal is to get from the beginning step - start (inspiration phase) to exit (end of the implementation phase) in which the designer was given choice of free movement between different phases through a field given the name “warp”. Lastly two questions were answered:•How can participatory and human-centered design (also in regard to research) as well as relevant theory contribute to a redesign for Northern Star as well as a better design-process for those involved in similar fields? •How can norms be identified and used in regards to making a more competitively successful product? Answers revolved around how human-centered design have a lot of similarities to board game design supported by exploration of different perspectivesand gave rise to opportunities for normative design(decreasing stigmatization around board games and resulting in unique solutions).

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis consists of five individual essays and an introductory chapter. The essays are all in the field of industrial dynamics and more specifically focus on firm entry and exit in Swedish industrial sectors. The essays mainly contribute to the empirical literature on entry and exit. In four of the five essays, panel data methods are used in the empirical investigation. The first essay presents the patterns of entry and exit in industrial sectors in Sweden and studies the importance of different determinants of entry and exit rates in industries. The second essay focuses on the relationship between entry and exit. The third essay has a regional perspective, focusing on regional determinants of entry and exit. It also investigates the importance of the differences in industry structure for differences in entry and exit rates across regions. The fourth chapter uses the theory of product life cycle to investigate how knowledge intensity differs in entering and exiting firms in different stages of the product life cycle. The fifth and last essay focuses on the importance of firm demography, in terms of firm size and age, for the decision to perform process R&D, product R&D or combine process with product R&D.

Georgiou, Marios. "Foreign market entry and exit process : the case of BP lubricants in Europe and Africa." Thesis, University of Gloucestershire, 2014. http://eprints.glos.ac.uk/1187/.

Full text
Abstract:
Foreign market entry strategies are considered critical for organisations looking to expand their operations to other countries abroad, as these require significant commitments, financial and other, which are more often than not, irreversible in the short and medium term. It is not surprising, therefore, that the area of foreign market entry is receiving considerable and growing academic attention over the last twenty years. In fact, the subject of international market entry is the third most researched area in international management, following the related fields of foreign market investments and internationalization. The overall aim of this thesis is to explore, analyse, and understand the foreign market entry and exit process that the business unit of BP Lubricants in Europe and Africa is following and identify strengths and weaknesses. A systematic literature review showed that there is a plethora of empirical evidence on foreign market research that provide useful insights into this important strategic process, however, the findings are often conflicting which makes it difficult to draw conclusions that can be generalized. The review identified the main theories and constructs for foreign market entry and highlighted certain gaps in the theory that the research evidence from this study has aimed to bridge. Using case study methodology and exploring in depth two contrasting cases (the Libyan entry and the Cyprus exit), the foreign market entry and exit processes within BP Lubricants in Europe and Africa have been established. Collection of evidence was achieved through three different methods, questionnaire, focused interviews, and documentation review. The detailed analysis of the foreign market entry process that BP Lubricants in Europe and Africa follows, has led to the development of a model that describes the process. This model depicts the complex nature of the process and recognises that a number of variables play an important role in the decision making process.

Abstract:
In recent years much effort has been dedicated to the purpose of combating commercial sexual exploitation yet there is a lack of concise and comprehensive information on the effectiveness of strategies and interventions to help this population. Research in this field has helped define and illuminate consequences of this lifestyle. The existing literature points to the complexity of the population's needs and the challenges faced when trying to leave 'the life' however there is a dearth of information on what works. The purpose of this project is to identify and summarize the findings of any empirical studies which evaluate interventions that target a successful exit for a life of sexual exploitation. Through a systematic review of results from search term combinations in two academic databases, peer-reviewed journal articles meeting selection criteria were analyzed and themes are presented. Results from the systematic review revealed only a small number of articles for inclusion and they are described in detail in this study. Recommendations for further research and review are also discussed.

This article examines how former street children experienced going from street life to life within an organization. Through semi-structured interviews with six children and one field worker, the aim has been to identify key points that made these children going all the way while other left, but also to highlight challenges and difficulties along the way. Reports from Ghana and other parts of the world about a low rate of success in working with these children made the subject interesting. Findings suggest that the process of leaving the street is more than just a physical move. The ability of the organizations to motivate and assist the children to change character has shown to be very critical for making the children stay within the program. Also the influence and assistance between the boys themselves has been of uttermost importance.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Globalization has driven the internationalization of both SMEs and large enterprises and has caused new opportunities and challenges to emerge. As a result of these new challenges, such as increased foreign competition, or due reasons such as lack of international experience, change in strategy, or dissatisfaction about their performance, many internationalized firms withdraw from their international operations. Permanent exit of international markets may not always be the best option. Re-entering these markets can be rewarding as the intangible resources gained from their initial internationalization experience may facilitate their international market re-entry, thereby having an advantage over newly internationalizing firms.   The main purpose of this study is to contribute to the concept of the re-internationalization process. This is done by exploring the relationship between international heritage and the different stages of the re-internationalization process, which consists out of: the initial internationalization experience, de-internationalization, the international time-out stage and the firm’s international market re-entry.   Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that SMEs apply international heritage differently, based on their level of resource commitment to the international market. This study shows that firms with a higher level of resource commitment tend to apply their international heritage on a global level, whereas firms that commit less resources only apply their international heritage in the market in which the international heritage was gained. Furthermore, while the disruptiveness of the market exit varied between the case companies, all four firms continued to commit resources to the exited market, albeit to varying degrees. Lastly, the empirical findings show that the role of international heritage is not a facilitating one, but that it causes the firm to be more careful.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to explore criminality and identity-creation. Why does some people end up in criminality and how one desist from crime. This paper focuses on how social factors can influence the process in and out of criminality with focus on identity-creation. This study also seeks to understand the change-process; how does an individual with a criminal past move from being socially excluded to becoming a member of a socially accepted group? The study takes a phenomenological approach and the result is based on the data we received from seven semi-structured qualitative interviews. The interviews were based on different themes to structure the dialogue with a view towards answering the purpose. The sample we used are based on purposeful technique and all informants, except for one, are members of associations that work to support people with a history of crime and addiction. The results show that entering and leaving a criminal community are complex processes and also that social context has a major influence on the process and the possibility to create a new identity. The compiled data consists of three different parts: 1) the gateway to crime 2) life as a criminal and 3) desistance from crime and creating a prosocial identity. The result is analyzed by initial sentence-concentration and thematic analysis.

Abstract:
Background: New enterprises are an important cog in the machinery of the economy. Newly founded companies are often referred to as startups and compile of one or more entrepreneurs. An important source of financing for these enterprises is venture capital. The investment process, the criteria’s used by investors and the support that they can come to provide are essential for the venture capital industries operation. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate and analyze the process that VC-companies use when searching for potential investments. Furthermore, the study intends to give an overview of the criteria’s used by VC:s in their final decision making and what measures are taken to develop the portfolio company in the post-investment phase. The study also touches upon the exit-strategies implemented by the investors. Implementation: The essay uses a qualitive and deductive approach, where earlier concluded research is analyzed and compared to the interviews conducted during the study. Conclusion: The study finds that VC:s implement a process that is comprised of sequential steps to identify interesting companies. During the evaluation investors put emphasis on the quality of the entrepreneur and managerial team. However, they also consider other factors related to product, market and viability of the project. Investors try to add value to their portfolio companies in the post-investment phase. The investment is completed through an exit, or cashing-out from the portfolio company. The study does not conclude that investors follow a predefined exit strategy.

van, Der Meer Willem Arie. "A thermofluid network-based methodology for integrated simulation of heat transfer and combustion in a pulverized coal-fired furnace." Doctoral thesis, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/33045.

Full text
Abstract:
Coal-fired power plant boilers consist of several complex subsystems that all need to work together to ensure plant availability, efficiency and safety, while limiting emissions. Analysing this multi-objective problem requires a thermofluid process model that can simulate the water/steam cycle and the coal/air/flue gas cycle for steady-state and dynamic operational scenarios, in an integrated manner. The furnace flue gas side can be modelled using a suitable zero-dimensional model in a quasi-steady manner, but this will only provide an overall heat transfer rate and a single gas temperature. When more detail is required, CFD is the tool of choice. However, the solution times can be prohibitive. A need therefore exists for a computationally efficient model that captures the three-dimensional radiation effects, flue gas exit temperature profile, carbon burnout and O2 and CO2 concentrations, while integrated with the steam side process model for dynamic simulations. A thermofluid network-based methodology is proposed that combines the zonal method to model the radiation heat transfer in three dimensions with a one-dimensional burnout model for the heat generation, together with characteristic flow maps for the mass transfer. Direct exchange areas are calculated using a discrete numerical integration approximation together with a suitable smoothing technique. Models of Leckner and Yin are applied to determine the gas and particle radiation properties, respectively. For the heat sources the burnout model developed by the British Coal Utilisation Research Association is employed and the advection terms of the mass flow are accounted for by superimposing a mass flow map that is generated via an isothermal CFD solution. The model was first validated by comparing it with empirical data and other numerical models applied to the IFRF single-burner furnace. The full scale furnace model was then calibrated and validated via detailed CFD results for a wall-fired furnace operating at full load. The model was shown to scale well to other load conditions and real plant measurements. Consistent results were obtained for sensitivity studies involving coal quality, particle size distribution, furnace fouling and burner operating modes. The ability to do co-simulation with a steam-side process model in Flownex® was successfully demonstrated for steady-state and dynamic simulations.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to create a deeper understanding for, and shine a light on the exit process for former criminal gang members. Which conditions appear to be important and what may constitute the enabling and inhibiting factors of an exit process? The study was based on qualitative semi-structured interviews with respondents who themselves have experience of a criminal lifestyle and gang affiliation, and with professionals in social work. Our theoretical approach is based on Helen Ebaugh’s definition of an exit process, labeling theories, strain theory and control theory. Said theories are usually an explanation for why an individual develops and remains in a criminal behavior. We used these theories in an opposite way, that is, as a model to explain how the way out of crime could look like.   The conclusion is that the process of leaving a criminal lifestyle and gang affiliation behind is complex. The criminal lifestyle means a marginalized position and limited resources linked to the conventional society. Throughout the process, the individual must, despite the difficulties, choose the legal options and be sustainable even if emotions like loneliness and disorientation arises. For individuals the way out of crime leads to a role change, to learn again. This indicates in our conclusions of the importance of including assistance in working with their criminal thinking patterns and behavior, orderly housing situation and livelihood as well as the importance of a supportive social network. Individuals who have been part of a criminal gang often have a unique support needs based on the environment they have been in, and not least by the sense of community and identity that the gang has meant to them.   Motivation and their willpower is portrayed as the most central means to cope with the exit process. The absence of one or more conditions increases the risk for the individual to fail while the access to conditions alone is not enough. The right conditions at the right time seems to appear as the key to generate a successful change process.

The theory of multi-type branching process in i.i.d. environment is considerably less developed than for the univariate case, and fundamental questions are up to date unsolved. Answers demand a solid understanding of the behavior of products of i.i.d. matrices with non-negative entries. Under mild assumptions, when the probability generating functions of the reproduction laws are fractional-linear, the survival probability of the multi-type branching process in random environment up to moment n is proportional to 1/√n as n → ∞. Techniques for univariate branching process in random environment and methods from the theory of products of i.i.d. random matrices are required

Abstract:
Former studies show that the break-up from prostitution can be seen as a process with several stages which the person has to go through and that there are several factors which can affect the break-up. The aim of this study is to create an understanding for and illustrate how a break-up from prostitution can look like. We have interviewed three ex-prostitutes about their own break-up and three social workers who work with helping individuals to exit prostitution. We have analyzed the material through the theory of exit process by Helen Fuch Ebaugh (1988) and through former studies. All the ex-prostitutes and the social workers in our study described the break-up from prostitution as a process. All our respondents agreed on that there are several different factors affecting a break-up from prostitution, whereof close relationships and the own motivation to make a change are the most significant ones. Formal support from professionals is also considered having an impact on the exit process as well as during the period after the break-up. In summary, the break-up process from prostitution is very complex, can be emotionally exhausting and may vary to a great extent between individuals.

Abstract:
Innovation has been considered the critical driver behind economic growth and value creation for a long time. However, in order to achieve an innovative status, the commercializing of an invention is required by injecting capital and strategy. While capital comes in many forms, this thesis focuses on the field of venture capital and how this type of financial backing can be analyzed and managed. Herein, the company characteristics continuum is presented, where business model innovation and technological innovation represent the two extremities. The purpose was then to investigate if there are significant differences in the venture capitalists' investment models as one moves along the aforementioned continuum. Semi-structured interviews were used and interpreted independently by the authors, with respect to coding units, in order to enhance objectivity. The thesis mainly targeted the information technology industry, where analysis was conducted on four of the largest actors on the Nordic venture capital market. The Nordic focus, combined with the rapidly moving industry, resulted in that significant differences, in the venture capitalists' investment models, were identified; giving implications both for theory and practice. These differences were identified as stemming from the initially adopted risk profiles, which then affected all other areas of the investment models.

Abstract In the following abstract, I will explain several aspects of my animation work "Exit". In Chapter one, I examine the artist's role in transforming life into art, during the process of creation. In the Chapter two, I will explain how the artist's attitude is reflected in their creation of an animation project. In order for the creative process of art to evolve, an artist should be flexible and not expect their work to conform to the beginning template. They should totally subject themselves to the psychological activity and faithful representation of their inner feelings. The adherence to strict guidelines would stifle such activity, and not be a faithful representation of the artist's feeling. In Chapter three, I will investigate the influence and enlightenment of some science fiction film and puppet animation artist, such as, Jiri Trnka , Kawamoto Kihachito, and Brothers Quay. In my animation work "Exit", the leading character's tour of spirit is explored in the context of a futuristic extinct civilization. The film blends the domains of "robot" and "inner-adventure", which are common themes represented in science fiction works. Kawamoto Kihachito's oriental philosophical thoughts and Brothers Quay's existentialist temperament towards literary and poetic expression have enlightened fellow artists, and caused them to further investigate the process of puppet animation. In Chapter four , I will explain the usage of materials such as metal skeletal joints, sponge and latex. As well, I will look at the process of culling images and digital photography of Stop-Motion. In Chapter five, I will elucidate the animation artist's thoughts and expectations in digital time. I sincerely recommend that those who are ambitious for working with puppet animation art to experience the essential significance of Stop-Motion Animation. New artists must keep their mind-state open, creative, and practical, instead of being stubborn in form and technique in the process of working.

Abstract This research adopts the case study and as the research method and experts depth interview. The current operating process in administrative relief of exit-forbiddance has been discussed. There are two constructs of this research structure -- appeal and administrative litigation. The six steps of operating process reengineering by Kettinger (1997) were applied to review present operating process to find out the problems and develop a proper reengineering process. That reengineering process will be verified and amended by experts opinions to build a new operating process. After discussing with experts and evaluated by researcher, there are six results being achieved. First, save the litigation cost. Second, save the manpower and material resource. Third, shorten the time of administrative relief. Fourth, simplify the administrative process. Fifth, offer greater convenience to the people. Finally, balance the workload of each High Administrative Court. For the purpose of reengineering process being able to be taken and executed smoothly, there are two feasible ways being applied. First, amend the improperly relevant laws. Second, if we could deliberate from the point of view by process reengineering, consider the inner and outer circumstances and eliminate the possible difficulties and obstructions, then the operating process of organizational original system and strategy will be transformed in the future vision and be put into practice successfully. Abstract In this paper , the purpose of research is to establish the HVF Strategic Business Exit ( SBE ) process model , through case study for investigating of multilevel managerial activities and corporate strategy making , and reflects all experiences which succeed and failed during this business exit process for reference . During this research, the researcher capitalizes the Bower-Burgelman process model (B-B Model) in case study, use the methodology of field study and archival research for data collection, and create the proposed theory model through coding the collected data by grounded theory. Combining with Chaos theory, Evolution theory and Resource-Based theory, the field-based data provides the evidence to show up some propositions, 1. The corporate strategy context and structural context reflects top managers’ strategic intent , and influences the strategic commitments of middle managers , the position of every business group will be shifted in this manner , 2. Strategic Business Unit ( SBU ) maybe conceptualized as a part of corporate assets , acquisition and exit happen from this point view of resource combination and selection , it also is influenced by external selection forces that responses management performance of SBU , 3. three key factors influence the positioning of SBU , external variations , corporate policies and the competencies of SBU , 4. the more clearness of position and policy of organization , the more stable during complexity period , and motivation and discipline is two key factors to form the stable mechanism during business exit activity . Under this research , the organizational dynamics framework was created , there are three phases, Chaos、Complexity and Order , it explains that the innovation will be creating if it manages with suitable conflict , and eliminate the organization inertia and against to external selection force . The HVF SBE process model which constructed by this research corroborates the usefulness of Bower-Burgelman process model for conceptualizing strategy making activities . Wan, Ping. "Channel estimation for OFDM in fast fading channels." Thesis, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1828/3413.

Full text
Abstract:
The increasing demand for high data rate transmission over broadband radio channels has imposed significant challenges in wireless communications. Accurate channel estimation has a major impact on the whole system performance. Specifically, reliable estimate of the channel state information (CSI) is more challenging for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in doubly selective fading channels than for the slower fading channels over which OFDM has been deployed traditionally. With the help of a basis expansion model (BEM), a novel multivariate autoregressive (AR) process is developed to model the time evolution of the fast fading channel. Relying on pilot symbol aided modulation (PSAM), a novel Kalman smoothing algorithm based on a second-order dynamic model is exploited, where the mean square error (MSE) of the channel estimator is near to that of the optimal Wiener filter. To further improve the performance of channel estimation, a novel low-complexity iterative joint channel estimation and symbol detection procedure is developed for fast fading channels with a small number of pilots and low pilot power to achieve the bit error rate (BER) performance close to when the CSI is known perfectly. The new channel estimation symbol detection technique is robust to variations of the radio channel from the design values and applicable to multiple modulation and coding types. By use of the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart, we investigate the convergence behavior of the new algorithm and analyze the modulation, pilot density, and error correction code selection for good system performance for a given power level. The algorithms developed in this thesis improve the performance of the whole system requiring only low ratios of pilot to data for excellent performance in fast fading channels.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the experiences of women in the process of leaving prostitution. It aims to understand the barriers these women face in order to receive social interventions that are accessible and that facilitate their exit from prostitution. This qualitative research builds on 11 individual interviews with women aged between 26 and 55 years and living in Montreal, the Laurentians and Abitibi. Although many women in prostitution want to exit, there are few social interventions to help them in this regard. Public services are largely inadequate both regarding their accessibility and their response to the needs of these women. Few studies have focused on support services to facilitate exiting prostitution, especially in Quebec. This thesis is anchored in a feminist abolitionist perspective with standpoint theory as the epistemological framework. The results highlight the barriers to accessibility of services including compartmentalisation of services and a manifest refusal to provide social support interventions for women. This study also gives an account of the experience of interventions that hinder the exiting process: 1) punitive practices, 2) those providing limited assistance to women or 3) their adaptation to prostitution. The conclusion proposes the implementation of innovative social practices that take into account the social constraints that lead women into the sex industry and keep them there as well as the consequences of the very experience of prostitution on them.
