Abstract:
Fast fashion retailers have faced a difficulty in translating in-store experiences to online experiences. Although online shopping is increasing, the in-store shopping is still very important for a superior shopping experience. Technology has had a major impact in making multichanneling retail more consistent, although there are gaps that technology can not fill. This study attempted to measure how consistent the customer experiences were online and in-store. Shopping experiences were measured with different concepts such as: flow, usability, interactivity, atmospherics and tactility. These concepts were measured separately in-store and online, in order to be compared. The purpose was to find out which concept is inconsistent so the authors could make recommendations for improvement to fast fashion retailers. The research approach was a mixed method approach and the chosen research design was cross sectional, using quantitative research to corroborate qualitative research findings. The results from a quantitative questionnaire of 263 experienced fast fashion consumers in Sweden show that the consistency varies between the concepts. The qualitative study was done at two occasions on a sample of six interviewees in each focus group, and gave a deeper understanding for why the shopping experience was or wasn't consistent. The qualitative results varied amongst the individuals and show that reasons for being inconsistent are intrusive salesmen, insufficient size measuring tools, long queues, lack of tactility and the most interesting of all: making better return and ordering policies. The future lies in making it easier to order online, in order for the consumer to be able to experience the product in real life, through staff-free fitting rooms and showrooms and such, rather than making the experience better online. The future seems to lie in solving the reverse of the start point of this study, namely translating online to in-store experiences.

Abstract:
In the last few years, the South African tourism industry grew steadily, and future growth is expected until 2020. Therefore, the sector anticipates an increased number of travellers that will use accommodation services in the next few years. However, very few South African guest houses operate at full occupancy due to the wide range of accommodation choices available, and therefore lose potential revenue. In light of the millions of potential guests, guest houses should offer a distinctive, meaningful guest house service to the modern-day guest who not only wants to feel, experience and be excited, but is also willing to pay for a memorable time. It is suggested that guest house operators take note of this era characterised by the principles of the experience economy, advocating that they apply them to their businesses by staging entertaining, educational, escapist and aesthetical opportunities to lead to satisfaction and quality. This study used a quantitative, explorative and descriptive research design to identify, describe and evaluate guests lodging experiences in guest houses in South Africa; and to determine the current application of the experience economy concepts. Fieldworkers employed purposive and snowball sampling to collect cross-sectional data from 340 guests and 39 guest house managers who completed different Likert scale questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse data. Guest profiles were well spread over the demographic categories; age, gender, income, repeat or first-time guests and reason for travel (business/pleasure). The aesthetics dimension of the guest house proved most prevalent, followed by escapism, entertainment and education. The dimensions, escapism, entertainment and education should become the focus and must be intentionally created to improve guests experiences. The consequences dimensions of the experience all measured high. Satisfaction was most prevalent followed by value, arousal and memory constructs. Overall, guest houses are not creating specialised experiences for guests and much room for improvement exists, except for the aesthetic dimension that should be maintained. Unfortunately, guest house managers and guests were loath to participate in providing information and this affected the potential of the study. Hence it is suggested that alternative ways be found to collect data from guest houses for research purposes that would ensure insight that would assist in enhancing offerings in the guest house industry.

Abstract:
Today, brick-and-mortar retailers are facing changes, as we are moving away from a service economy towards an experience economy. These changes reshape customers´ preferences. Reatilers have shown an inability to adapt to these changes, indicating that there is a need for further insights on the subject. To address this lack of knowledge, this thesis aimed at investigating the customer experience in brick-and-mortar fashion retailers in order to obtain knowledge about how experiential offerings create perceived value and customer satisfaction, which ultimately leads to store attractiveness.  This study focused on investigating the customer experience holistically, by using the "Experience Economy 4E construct" together with three dimensions of perceived experiential value as a theoretical framework. The application of this holistic approach to the customer experience has until now been relatively unexplored, which justify the purpose of this thesis.  This qualitative study was conducted by using six semi-structured interviews. Furthermore, the emprical data collection was analysed using a thematic analysis. This generated valuable insights to which aspects were considered to create positive as well as negative feelings, which consequently affect customer satisfaction and store attractiveness.  The result showed that experiential offerings from brick-and-mortar fashion retailers create perceived experiential value, which in turn leads to customer satisfaction and store attractiveness. Furthermore, the result indicated that educational experiences, esthetic experiences and social interactions are the primary value-creating sources.

Abstract:

The concept of experiences may not be all that revolutionary or new, however, the notion of an economy where experiences make up the core of all businesses is. This suggestion was made by Pine and Gilmore in 1999 in their bestseller “The Experience Economy”, and since then, the concept has received a lot of positive attention. Critics of the authors’ proposal still remain few in number, and there is a lack of research re-garding experiences and consumers.

As the authors of this thesis we posed ourselves positive to the Experience Economy in general, but also a bit hesitant to the idea of companies offering experiences in all consumer contexts. Due to the lack of research regarding the demand side, we set out to explore the phenomenon of the Experience Economy from the perception of consumers. By doing so we hoped to find whether or not a foundation for Pine and Gilmore’s (1999) idea exists.

In order to explore consumers’ perceptions of the Experience Economy, we focused on what is at the core of the concept – experiences. A qualitative research approach was decided upon, and three focus group interviews were conducted. The focus groups were made up of young consumers, parents of small children, and middle aged consumers.

The empirical findings indicate that a foundation for the claim that the Experience Economy is emerging does exist, at least to the extent that no substantial barriers have been identified. However, we believe that the notion of an experience-based economy is only to be discussed if the concept is somewhat widened in its claims. That is, our summation of the consumers’ perceptions of the Experience Economy suggests that experiences need to be viewed as existing along a spectrum, ranging from a negative to a positive extreme. Rather than just being at the positive extreme, as indicated by scholars, we believe that staged experiences in the Experience Econ-omy will range from the spectrum’s neutral centre to only on rare occasions touch upon the extraordinaire.

Abstract:
Nowadays, the great importance of tourism and its impact on the wide range of aspects of progress and globalization, development and international relations promotion does not ask for argumentations. The responsibility of providing this impact lays on every company in the sector: in addition to making profit, enterprises are in charge of satisfying the customers. Furthermore, the key mean to reaching these goals is to be found in experiences that people are so keen on receiving. Consequently, companies representing the tourism industry must focus on creating the best possible experiences, which will ensure them satisfied visitors, who will be willing to return again, and again. Theoretically the discussion is supported by the experience economy theory, which performs as a solid base to investigate the phenomenon of customer satisfaction. However, since the topic is multifaceted and should be analyzed appropriately, the study refers also to such notions as service quality, marketing destination and brand. Additionally, the issues connected to cross-cultural differences cannot be omitted while considering a company that belongs to tourism industry, and therefore serves the international flow of customers. The study is devoted to the exploration of customer satisfaction in an entertainment park in Finland, with the focus on visitors from Russia. The goals and objectives of the research were possible to be realized by using interviews and observation as methods of the study. In total 16 groups of people (mostly families) participated in data collection. The questionnaire was structured around three main topics: expectations from holidays, experience in the Park and Finnish Lapland as a touristic destination, therefore enabled to form a detailed understanding of the four realms of the experience, service quality, destination brand and marketing. Thus, the data analysis allowed evaluating current customer satisfaction level in the organization and offering the recommendations for developing it in the future seasons. The study contributes to customer satisfaction, tourism and cross-cultural research. The results of this research demonstrate the complexity of the analyzed phenomenon and endeavor to present the relation and mutual influence of the simultaneously considered notions. Thus, four realms of experiences appear to have different importance for the interviewed audience and therefore influenced the overall satisfaction accordingly. Next, service quality was planned to be measured on the base of expectations, but the insufficient amount of them led to the conclusion that it is not possible to rely only on expectations in this case. However, the ones that were discovered should be carefully followed in the developing of the services and customer satisfaction in general, in the future. Lastly, the insights about the perception of Lapland and opinion of the brand retrieved from the target group, can be used for improving the destination facilities, infrastructure and overall image, as well as correcting the destination marketing strategy.

Abstract:
The profound institutional change inherent in transitional economies creates a challenging climate for firms to survive. Although a significant amount of empirical research has been conducted on the subject of organisational longevity in developed economies, limited research had been conducted in emerging markets. This paper addresses this shortcoming by looking at firm survival and institutional change during South Africa's political transition spanning the period 1991 to 2013. Using perspectives from population ecology theory and institutional theory, a cluster of absorption variables is developed and empirically tested to identify the characteristics of those firms that were able to endure shifts in the operating environment. Findings resulting from the Kaplan-Meier survival function and the Cox proportional hazard model suggest that so-called ?survival champions' develop a shared set of characteristics that take the form of bulk and heft in a transitional economy, which better equips them to absorb and negotiate change. In addition, the research shows that the sensitivity of survival to the cluster of absorption variables is significantly higher during the post-transition period of 1999 to 2013 compared to the period during which the transition takes place. This research paper contributes to the survival literature by adding a more nuanced voice to the understanding of corporate longevity in emerging markets. Findings offer key lessons for managers and stakeholders not only in South Africa, but also for those economies which have undergone - or may still undergo - similar institutional transition.

Abstract:
Nowadays the world is on the verge of another significant migration of value, the value for corporate world is shifting from providing services to staging experiences for customers. Since it is vital to understand the main characteristics and components of the impending environment, this research is carried out. It is aimed at determining the main elements of the experience economy that could add value to products and the way modern retail companies apply these instruments within their strategies. The purpose of this paper is sufficiently fulfilled by qualitative analysis of three companies from the clothing industry - Benetton Group, Nike, Louis Vuitton. In the paper co-creation, gamification and digitalization are identified as the main instruments of the experience economy that could lead to greater value of the products and additionally contribute to other companies’ brand performance criteria as brand loyalty and brand awareness. Furthermore, the study provides discrepancies between retail companies from the clothing industry in terms of implementing experience economy instruments depending on their market segment, strategy and specialization.

Abstract:
What would happen if, the systems we deal with everyday, and the situations we find ourselves in, could trigger us to give something to someone else? This work started by exploring the theme of  money systems and social structures and the ambition to find alternatives for our current economic system, which has failed in several ways. People all over the world are already coming up with alternatives that can supplement and stabilize our money-monoculture and that give new meaning to currency. This research investigates a particular alternative economic system called the gift economy, which has great potential to build meaningful relations and re-establish a sense of  community. Since the gift economy has been mainly researched by anthropologists and ethnographers in the last century, my focus is on implementing its principles in society today. Through literature review, case studies and a series of  design projects, this thesis articulates possible ways of  triggering a gift economy. With a special coin, a concept for a bar and by linking the local bakery to Konstfack, we may start to understand what giving really means, how it can benefit us, in what way it can build more meaningful relationships and how it can offer an alternative way of  thinking than what currently drives our economic system

Abstract:

âEconomia solidÃriaâ is sought of social reform into numerous scope of human action and it has remarkable grew up in recent years because its different configurations. My main question is make a research about âRede Bodegasâ namely âRede de Economia Popular SolidÃriaâ placed in the State of CearÃ. âRede Bodegasâ that is an instance of and refers to Caritas which has some projects concern Alternative Community Projects (so called PACs). Hence, we search for an answer to the questions: how they become entirely independent any way and farther how they construct the underlying source of âEconomia SolidÃriaâ. The methodology adopted is like an empiric one or only âa caseâ through we concern with âRede Bodegasâ activities. Informations at issue were grasped through a questionnaire which comprises lessons about production, betterment, trading and distribution of economic outcome. Data that were researched provides a framework (schema) supported by CÃritas Diocesana de Fortaleza accord to the principles of âEconomia solidÃriaâ. This project has a clearly concern: bringing up gain for its agents such improvement income and environmental rectitude possessing, mutual cooperation and solidarity feeling. Hence, Caritas played a role especially with a logistic one: qualifying people, methodological, supervising, etc. According data interpretation itâs possible to construct a virtuous circle to Rede Bodegas that can be financial supported by Caritas. The result can be enjoyed by everyone who is comprised with the project in order to bring at all into account the dignity of people. For example, along with 8 diocese distributed all over the state (2006), there was minimal results, but those were at least important to advance the project tout court on a continuum. Then, âEconomia Popular SolidÃriaâ sets up a prominent future (the project can be settled by Caritas) and it gets farther.

Abstract:
With the shift nowadays towards an experience economy, the increased attention placed on memorable experiences and how to stage them can be viewed as a major trend which can act as a source of information regarding the stories that people share about themselves and their self-perceptions, as well as helping businesses make a step towards their guests. In this vein, rural tourism is highly consumed by people searching for these unique and memorable experiences, but the knowledge on tourists’ experiences in a rural setting are very limited. Therefore, this paper seeks to examine what memorable experiences tourists encounter in the rural setting, and more importantly, why were they memorable. In order to answer these questions, the researcher undertook a qualitative approach and in depth semi structured interviews were conducted with people who travelled in the Cluj Napoca County from Romania. The findings revealed an amalgam of experiences that people encounter in the rural setting, combined with various reasons why the experiences were considered memorable in the eyes of respondents. The main findings show how the optimal memorable tourism experience is usually comprised of several factors involving multiple experiential dimensions, and an important influence is represented by social interactions alongside positive emotions.

Abstract:
Cultural tourism and creative industries have intersecting policy agendas and economic interdependencies. Most studies of the creative industries have focused on western countries. Cultural tourism is rarely included. However the arrival of the creative economy and its movement through developing countries has changed the relationship. Supporters of the creative economy now see fit to include tourism. This thesis addresses the development of the creative economy in Malaysia. The thesis conducted case studies on animation and museum sectors in Malaysia. These two case studies provide information on the development of creative economy in Malaysia. The study found that a top-down cultural management approach is being practised but that Malaysia is now influenced by new ideas concerning innovation and technical creativity. The study examined whether or not technical innovation by itself is enough. The reference points here are the Multimedia Super Corridor in Cyberjaya and other similar projects in the region. The museum case study was situated in Malacca. It showed that museums needed to adapt new media and new experiences to remain relevant in today’s world. In applying a case study approach, the thesis made use of interviews with key stakeholders, as well consulting numerous policy documents and web sites. Both case studies imitated similar products and services in the market but added local characteristics. This research project contributes significantly to the existing body of knowledge in the field of creative economy within the context of developing countries. Finally the thesis makes recommendations for Malaysia to better position itself in the regional economy while retaining its distinctive cultural identity.

Abstract:

Uppsatsen tar utgångspunkt i två teoretiska begrepp: Pine & Gilmore´s (1999) strategimodell, The Experience Realms, och Hulténs m.fl.

Abstract:
After the collapse of the communist system in 1989, Poland embarked on the transition to a market economy. One of the main issues of the transformation is the creation of a strong private sector in the economy. The privatisation of state-owned enterprises has encountered considerable problems and lags behind expectations, whereas newly established small and medium-sized firms already play an important role both in terms of employment and output. These new firms, however, face problems which are peculiar to the transitional environment as well as difficulties which are similar to those experienced by small and medium-sized firms in more mature market economies. In response to these problems, Polish authorities and foreign donors are implementing support structures for small and medium enterprises which are based on Western models. Drawing on evidence from two Polish regions, this thesis compares the acceptance of these imported structures with cooperation structures that endogenously evolved between local enterprises. Apart from other local initiatives, two regional chambers of commerce serve as examples for transplanted support structures. Their role in the business environment is evaluated on the basis of a questionnaire survey among their members. This evidence is then contrasted with examples of informal inter-firm cooperation examined in four case studies. The social and economic relations between firms in these case studies are analysed following the embeddedness concept as developed by Granovetter (1985). The thesis argues that the import of formal institutions from Western market economies meets with difficulties regarding credibility and acceptance, since they reflect the specific conditions in the economies in which they evolved. Thus, the institutional support for small and medium-sized enterprises in Poland should take into account the case-specific structures of the business environment, which are rooted in the distinctive features of the transition process in general and of the regional situation in particular.

Abstract:
This dissertation is an investigation of a number of themes in financialisation and financial stability in a European and cross-border context. Continental European countries are the primary objects of interest, though the US and the UK are also considered given the relationship and similarities between the different regions. The PhD follows a three essay structure but with several unifying threads. Among them are financialisation as a demand-led process (that is, the growth of finance has been driven by factors external to financial markets), comparative and cross-border dynamics, interactions between institutional investors and the banking system, and housing market dynamics. In particular, the thesis examines the transformation and growth of banking activities, the nature and financial stability consequences of the expansion of financial trading generally and also proprietary trading in particular, and the determinants of cross-border debt flows in Europe in the 2000s. From these a number of diverse policy implications emerge. Common among them, and a unifying theme of the PhD, is that financialisation needs to be managed as opposed to reversed. The PhD adds to existing research on financialisation in a number of ways. The chapter on the growth of banking identifies the aggregate growth of investment banking as driven by the increase in scale and scope of modern capital markets. Deregulation and/or disintermediation processes have not been the driving force. The imposition of the first Basel Accord is found to be the largest single factor in the rise of mortgage lending over the past four decades or so. A capital market-led view of investment banking is a novel approach, whereas the invocation of the Basel agreements in this study is one of greater emphasis compared to existing literature. The following chapter finds that in the post-Bretton Woods landscape Europe graduated from recurrent currency crises to repeated credit-based housing crises. Financial trading has recently played a more indirect role in financial instability through the provision of liquidity to the banking system. Proprietary trading is largely dependent on the institutional investor-led increase in trading volume and, while important, has not posed the same threat to stability as housing market dynamics have. These points have not been adequately appreciated in the financialisation literature to date. The final content chapter develops this point further. It finds that institutional investors were the principal driving force in the expansion of debt-based capital flows in Europe in the 2000s. This point has not been appreciated thus far. Position taking by large banking groups was important, but banks largely availed of opportunities for gain as they arose. Institutional investors, in contrast, had a structural need for those instruments that were central to the expansion of flows. This dissertation utilises institutional and historical political economy analysis with frequent use of descriptive statistics. While aspects of the social world occasionally exhibit relatively stable relationships and forms (for example, lognormal distribution of income, Pareto distribution of city size, and so on), this is not the norm. Typically in quantitative social science and economics such forms are assumed a priori, and quantitative techniques such as regression then applied. However, there are reasons to be doubtful of this approach in general, which leads us to favour institutional analysis. For one, free-will imparts on economic agents behaviour that eludes capture by a formal deterministic or stochastic model. A deterministic (or stochastic) view of human agency violates our everyday intuitions that we have control over our actions and lives. The fact that people in general try to influence some outcome in their lives rather than just stay in bed because it has already been determined implies they believe their actions have the capacity to affect their world. Second, the social world is highly complex. Independent of free-will, the conditions under which a deterministic or stochastic model can be applied are highly circumscribed outside of laboratory conditions. Lawson's (1997) example of a leaf blowing in the wind is a case in point. The problem of complexity applies, writ large, to human action. Further, institutional reasons include distortions arising from model-induced bias reinforcement, publishing bias, and issues surrounding the cleanliness of data. It is for such reasons that quantitative modelling is deemed inappropriate. Institutional and historical analysis also allows the examination of contextual factors which enable interpretation of events, processes, and so on. Some of the dissertation's findings complement existing research. Others entail a difference in emphasis while others still are minority positions and contrary to a number of presuppositions held in the financialisation literature.

Abstract:
Since the experience economy was introduced, many researchers and enterprises have been attempting to find new strategies for business development, thus adapting to this new economy. In this process, the innovative value proposition is discovered as a solution to deliver satisfactory service and experience to customers. As a result, people start to pay attention to how to create an innovative value proposition and use it to stage memorable experiences to customers, which is also the main task of conducting this paper. In this paper, the authors investigate the value propositions offered by two innovative hotels, Chiva-som and IceHotel in order to answer how to create value proposition by integrating operant and operand resources. And the study about customers’ perceptions on value propositions is used to reveal how customers perceive a good value proposition and use it create a memorable experience that they desire. At the end of this paper, the authors state a new frame of creating value propositions by presenting a model of resource integration methods (Figure 3), which includes resource-centric and co-creation centric aspects. Furthermore, the features of a good value proposition perceived by customers as well as the solutions to improve customer experiences with innovative value propositions are summarized respectively.

Abstract:
It seems that online retail is erasing the presence of physical stores, referred to as the retail apocalypse. Consumers’ desire to experience brands is increasing whilst sensory experiences in the online retail environment are limited. It is increasingly important for brands to be attainable through physical interaction for consumers to stay loyal, a fundament for the experience economy. Therefore, the pop up phenomenon could be considered an approach to blur the line between physical and online stores. The aim of this research is to create an understanding of how the pop up phenomenon is experienced by phygital companies in Sweden, exploring their use of multisensory marketing through pop ups and the effect it has on the brand. A qualitative and exploratory approach with semi-structured and asynchronous interviews including nine managers from the pop up industry was conducted. The data collected was analysed through a thematic approach and compared to existing literature. From the findings, two pop up purposes were identified: (1) pop ups with a long-term marketing purpose to enhance the brand, and (2) pop ups with a short-term selling purpose. Further, the empirical findings of this study suggest that the usage of multisensory experiences was recurrently found to be done unintentionally by the firms, indicating a lack of knowledge of its impact on customer behaviour in the long-term. From combining literature and findings a model was created explaining how firms can use the pop up phenomenon to successfully enhance the company’s brand. This research provides insights of managers’ personal experiences of the phenomenon and explores how pop ups can be a useful tool for a company's brand.

Abstract:
Since the mid-1990s, New Zealand has become a popular study destination for international students. In its neo-liberal knowledge economy policies including an export education policy, international education agenda, and skilled immigration policy, international students are conceptualised as ideal policy subjects: free, rational and self-interested knowledge consumers and globally available human resources. International postgraduates are expected to contribute to New Zealand’s knowledge economy with their knowledge and skills. However, both the statistics and empirical research suggest that these students’ experiences do not always coincide with the policy expectations owing to the involvement of multiple political and non-political factors and actors including international students themselves. Cultural differences in particular, generate extra challenges for these policies to recruit and serve international students and retain international graduates from non-Western cultural backgrounds including those from Mainland China. The gap between the policy intentions and these students’ experiences draws our attention to the roles of multiple regimes of government and individual students as active agencies in overseas study and raises the question of how the two aspects can converge to achieve a ‘good’ overseas study in a complicated culture-crossing policy environment. This thesis takes a post-structuralist approach and uses an adapted Foucauldian conceptual framework that develops the concept of governmentality to explore the experiences of a group of postgraduate Chinese international students studying at two New Zealand universities. It combines documentary research, an online survey and 56 in-depth interviews for data collection with culturally informed discursive, Foucauldian descriptive statistical and Foucauldian narrative analyses of data. The findings show that the convergence between New Zealand’s knowledge economy policies and Chinese students’ experiences of ‘good’ overseas study is not straightforward. This thesis argues that Chinese international students are not made and governed by a singular political power like the New Zealand Government but by multiple regimes of practices through which these students are assembled. Chinese cultural mechanisms such as filial piety, reciprocity and loyalty, play a crucial role in constituting the field of international education and assembling regimes of subjectification. Moreover, these cultural mechanisms are not only embodied in governmental technologies themselves as technical means, but also activated through the coexistence of multiple rationalities, the hybridisation of regimes of subjectification and cross-cultural applications of these technologies. This thesis helps explain both ways in which Chinese students get ‘made into’ subjects who are willing to constitute themselves as international students obliged to come to New Zealand and contribute to the knowledge economy and also the constellations of factors motivating them to move away from on-going, constant and regular engagement with New Zealand as a knowledge economy. With its findings, the thesis attempts not only to provide valuable policy recommendations but also to contribute to sociological understandings of the global governance of border-crossing population movements and comparative studies in the sociology of education.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the presence of the Arts (the arts, and museums) and Entertainment (Sports) industries and the core of the hospitality industry, being hotels and restaurants, in Sweden. More specifically, it deals with how the development of sport, the arts and museum industries is related to the development of Hotel and Restaurant industries in the country. This has been tested by multiple regression models and results do not reject the first hypothesis of the study which is the positive relationship between the development of Entertainment and Art industries and the growth of ‘Hotels with restaurant, except conference centers’. Nevertheless, only in the model which the dummy variables are applied does the museum industry fail to show any significant relationship for both, the years 2002 and 2010. The results regarding the second hypothesis expressed the growth of sport and art industries and how they are positively significantly associated with the growth of ‘Restaurants’ but affirmed that the museum industry has no considerable association. The results do not also reject the third hypothesis. However the growth of hotel and restaurant industries is not strongly related to the growth of museum industry in one model pertaining to the year 2010.

Abstract:
Our objective of the thesis is to investigate how the Washington Capitals strategically works to create experiences in the context of hockey games and the surrounding events. How does the Washington Capitals create experiences? Is there anything to learn from the Washington Capitals experience strategy? Can their way of work be linked to theories about the experience economy?   Method: Secondary data such as printed sources and books, previous studies and articles. We conducted a qualitative field study in Washington D.C. We interviewed people at the organization of Washington Capitals and carried out participant and non-participant observations at headquarters and in the arena at game events.  Results & Conclusions: Washington Capitals are definitely working with experience economy, this is something that others could learn from. Washington Capitals are not working by any experience economy theories, they had never heard the term previously. However, their way of work is in line with the experience economy theories.   Suggestions for future research: The presentation of this study is limited since it is difficult to highlight events that create impression by writing. A similar study could favourably be presented by a movie. To obtain a better understanding of why the audience attend hockey games further studies could be done about the audience's motivation factors, both in Sweden and in the U.S.. Further studies could also be done in collaboration with a Swedish sports club to test the theoretical methods in reality.    Contribution of the thesis: The essay can provide concrete examples of how a sports organization can work to create experiences in the context of their sporting events.

Abstract:
The websites provided by academic libraries are challenged by the rapid developments in information and communication technology (ICT). These developments have created diverse options and channels for information sources that can be accessed easily by users through the Internet. Because of these alternate sources, many users no longer physically visit the library. Instead, they depend on the library’s website to obtain information online, or they use Internet searches to obtain the information they require. This research addresses the following question: How do the users of academic libraries search for information and interact with the libraries’ web interfaces? The research draws on models from the disciplines of information-seeking behaviour (ISB) and human-computer interaction (HCI). A unified model based on the models in ISB and HCI is created and investigated. In addition, a qualitative study has been conducted to investigate users’ information needs, information-seeking behaviours, and difficulties and experiences with the websites of academic libraries. Interpretive case studies were conducted at two universities, one in the UK and one in Kuwait. Qualitative data were collected in interviews, focus groups, and observations of diverse groups of library users. Furthermore, a content analysis approach was applied to analyse the data. The findings revealed seven steps taken in searching for information and interacting with academic libraries’ web interfaces, but exposed variance in the order in which users executed these steps. The findings also revealed several issues regarding the use of library websites to search for information. In particular, these concerned the complexity of finding information, the content organisation of the library websites and the use of incomprehensible terms on the library websites. As a result, the library users relied heavily on Google to find information. The thesis concludes with suggested guidelines for how academic library interfaces can best support the way users search for information, as well as their interactions, experiences and needs. Keywords: information-seeking behaviour, human-computer interaction, users’ needs, user experience, academic library website, usability, content analysis, postgraduate students, academics, library staff, Kuwait, UK.

Abstract:
Multiple studies have addressed registered nurse turnover in recent years. There is little research specifically addressing nurse manager turnover. The nurse manager is addressed in current research as being in a pivotal position to affect nurse retention. Research has focused on the skills necessary for nurse managers to affect turnover; however, there is little research addressing the pressure placed upon the nurse manager as he or she struggles to maintain the nursing workforce. This qualitative study explored the lived experience of feeling overwhelmed by 6 nurse managers currently working in an inpatient hospital environment. Interviews were analyzed using a modified version of the descriptive-interpretive phenomenological method as described by van Manen. Four essential themes were identified: there is nobody there, caught in the middle, feeling that you are a failure, and the inability to do. One paradigm case exhibited all of the essential themes. The essence of the nurse manager's lived experience of feeling overwhelmed is helplessness evidenced by constant unresolved conflicts in a complex, chaotic organization with changing expectations, unmet personal fulfillment, and constant turbulence. It is personal conflict related to the desire to impact positive patient and staff outcomes--to make a difference, while feeling that they fall short of the organization's and their own personal expectations. Theoretical implications related to Quantum theory, Emotional Intelligence, and Roger's Science of Unitary Human Beings are discussed in order to highlight current theoretical literature pertinent to the nurse manager's experience of feeling overwhelmed. Implications for research, practice, and education are discussed as facility leadership considers the experiences of this group of nurse managers. This study will better inform hospital administrators, nursing leadership, and staff nurses of the lived experience of this group of nurse managers.

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to gain a deeper understanding of what companies think is needed for experiences to become successful and memorable. We would also want to know what companies think distinguishes an extraordinary experience. Methodology: For this essay we have used a qualitative method that consists of semistructured interviews, e-mail interviews and one telephone interview. In total, six interviews were conducted with six different experience companies. Conclusions: Staff and their attitude is important for the experience to be successful. The place is also very important and it can be designed in a way that more or less can affect visitors' emotions. The experience room has a large impact on the overall impression. A memorable experience need to involve visitors' emotions. Visitors need to feel part of the experience and the senses should be stimulated for the experience to be memorable. An extraordinary experience must contain the elements of a successful and a memorable experience. It should also be developing on a personal level.

Abstract:
This study seeks to analyze the process of transition and democratization in Kyrgyzstan from 1990 to 2000. The collapse of the Soviet Union opened new political perspectives for Kyrgyzstan and a chance to develop sovereign state based on democratic principles and values. Initially Kyrgyzstan attained some progress in building up a democratic state. However, in the second half of 1990s Kyrgyzstan shifted toward authoritarianism. Therefore, the full-scale transition to democracy has not been realized, and a well-functioning democracy has not been established. This study aims to focus on the impediments that led to the failure of establishing democracy in Kyrgyzstan. It analyzes the role of economy, political elites and political culture in the form of tribalism in Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the economic and political changes that have been undergoing since independence. The political and economic developments in Kyrgyzstan are discussed with specific reference to the hardships in economic transition, elite continuity and role of tribal and clan structures in present politics.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the P2P carsharing user experience. The intention of this investigation is to increase the adoption and uptake of P2P carsharing in existing and future markets because of its benefits to the environment, the local economy and its accruement of social capital. We see P2P carshar- ing as a key means to creating a sustainable urban transportation solution. We started by doing a web review of P2P carsharing followed by a system- atic analysis in which we categorized each platforms’ key attributes. With this information we created two infographics. The first displays existent platforms and their different attributes. The second illustrates the customer journey. We then conducted a survey between April 6 and May 14, 2012, receiving 206 responses from borrowers, owners and people who have not yet used the service. Although the survey was open to anyone, users in the US, France, Germany, Spain and Sweden were targeted. The survey pro- vides demographic information about P2P carsharing users who were found to be young, highly educated, well-off working professionals. Their trans- portation habits and needs, especially as relating to P2P carsharing were also found. After collating this information we partitioned respondents into: Owners, Borrowers, Prospective Owners, Prospective Borrowers, and then orthogonally into US Users and European Users. We then created user pro- files and a mix of short and longer-term multi-stakeholder design chal- lenges for stakeholders; whose work, building off of ours, will we hope, foster innovations that make P2P carsharing a ubiquitous mobility solution.
