This study was designed to examine the effects of Experiential Focusing-oriented dream interpretation. The process was twofold. The first part of this study involved a preliminary step of developing an instrument, the Dream Interpretation Effects Questionnaire (DIEQ). The DIEQ assessed specific effects of Experiential Focusing-oriented dream interpretation, e.g., a sense of easing, fresh air, or movement, increased positive energy or self-understanding, development of a new step, enhanced valuation of dreams, or enhanced understanding of the meaning of the dream. It is often assumed that experiential reference, in particular the references we make using so-called essential indexicals (I, here, and now), is irreducible to other forms or reference. In focusing on Donnellan’s insights concerning the referential use of definite descriptions and empirical evidence coming from cognitive sciences (in particular Pylyshin’s work on situated vision), Eros Corazza discusses and defends this view. In so doing, he shows how experiential reference rests on a form of egocentric immersion underpinning agent-centered behaviours. It is further argued that our capacity t

After describing Jaspers’ rejection of epistemological objectivism and physicalism, I consider later developments in hermeneutic phenomenology that are absent from his discussion. These include criticism of the “prejudice against prejudices” and also of what Heidegger termed the “forgetting of the ontological difference” (namely, neglect of general qualities of the exper

This book presents a fresh vision for Christian theology that foregrounds the relationship between theological ideas and the experiences of Christians. It argues that theology is always operating in a vibrant landscape of feeling and desiring, and shows that contemporary theology has often operated in problematic isolation from these experiential dynamics. It then argues that a theologically serious doctrine of the Holy Spirit not only authorizes but requires attention to Christian experience. Against this background, the book outlines a new methodological approach to Christian theology that a

AbstractKokko tests and develops further Benedict Anderson’s thesis about “imagined communities” through analyzing the experiential change that the emerging of first-hand experience of the nation required at the individual level. The analysis of readers’ letters published in the Finnish-language press provides a rare history-from-below approach to the emerging experience of the nation. Besides focusing on the mid-1800s’ Finnish grass roots experience of the nation, the chapter draws attention to the form of belonging which existed prior to it. ‘Temporalization of Experiencing’ presents the first-hand experience of the nation as a social phenomenon. The chapter indicates that the absorbing of the experience of the nation was based on a transformation in the structures of experiencing that was linked to the modernization process.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the most common intensive experiential opportunity the new communal and Conservative Jewish day high schools in North America offer — the Shabbaton. The Shabbaton is a retreat focusing on the communal celebration of the sabbath. These Shabbatonim are a distinctive form of experiential Jewish education. Yet despite their widespread implementation and the growth of experiential educational efforts in day schools, they have been given little attention in the educational literature. To address this lack, the chapter draws on experiences in training school-based experiential educators in order to discuss the educational goals of these Shabbaton programmes, the principles of running a successful programme, and the challenges faced by the experiential educators who are charged with planning and implementing these programmes.

Abstract:
This chapter analyzes the subjective and experiential qualities of compassion in care work, with particular focus on how volunteers and recipients describe the relationships they forge with one another as deeply intimate experiences of care and affection. By focusing on intersubjective experiences of accompaniment, friendship, and love that emerge through circulations of care, members of Russia’s religiously affiliated assistance community describe their interactions as forms of intimacy and shared humanity, rather than spiritual encounters. This approach presents a counterpoint to anthropological theories of compassion and empathy by illuminating the dynamic and generative nature of economies of affect. Acts and ethics of faith-driven compassion build communities of intimacy and sentiment between assistance providers and their recipients.

Abstract:
This chapter (re)introduces practical learning methods to the reader. Focusing on multimodality, authenticity, engagement, and environmental adaptability, this chapter breaks down practicality in a rapidly changing learning environment and provides a brief overview of three practical approaches. Combining industry-developed knowledge of agile strategies with experiential knowledge of frontline, metric-driven innovations in teaching, learning, and eLearning, this chapter also showcases blueprints for establishing a sustainable foundation for the growing architecture of eLearning in the US and internationally. The chapter is designed to model the chapter's content for the reader, actively involving readers across modalities in the processes of refining an understanding of practical methods and approaches, including (1) case-based learning, (2) active learning, and (3) communicative learning (as a corollary to communicative language teaching).
