This essay uses the case of scientific psychology to explore modes of description and the broader objectives underlying these modes, reporting on both the complexities and potentials of psychological description. It examines the description techniques of the classic Milgram experiment and offers a redescription of the resulting data to show both how psychology’s practices of description entail more than objective accounts of observed behavior and how these descriptions can influence the social world and our understandings of ourselves. It is alleged that all jurisprudence practice is made up of estimation procedures. The own interpretation of a “legal effect” is given here. Abstract:
The degree of correspondence between the formal description of phrase structure in music and its cognitive representation as revealed by its effects on responses to clicks superimposed on melodies is explored in two experiments. In Experiment 1, using a click localization task, a high degree of correspondence was established, providing evidence for a hierarchical format of the cognitive representation of phrase structure. In Experiment 2, click detection time was measured for a binary and trinary phrase structure of the same length, using two groups of subjects differing in musical competence.

Spekkens has introduced an epistemically restricted classical theory of discrete systems, based on discrete phase space. The theory manifests a number of quantum-like properties but cannot fully imitate quantum theory because it is noncontextual. In this paper we show how, for a certain class of quantum systems, the quantum description of an experiment can be decomposed into classical descriptions that are epistemically restricted, though in a different sense than in Spekkens' work. For each aspect of the experiment—the preparation, the transformations, and the measurement—the epistemic restri

The famous Wigner’s friend experiment considers an observer—the friend—and a superobserver—Wigner—who treats the friend as a quantum system and her interaction with other quantum systems as unitary dynamics. This is at odds with the friend describing this interaction via collapse dynamics, if she interacts with the quantum system in a way that she would consider a measurement. These different descriptions constitute the Wigner’s friend paradox. Extended Wigner’s friend experiments combine the original thought experiment with non-locality setups. This allows for deriving local friendliness ineq

Abstract The description–experience gap in risky choice behavior is the finding that people tend to overweight rare events when making description-based decisions, whereas they tend to underweight rare events when making experience-based decisions. In the present study, the authors investigated whether the gap, which is studied mainly in the context of monetary gambles, generalizes to the context of retail discounts in the consumer domain. In 3 experiments, subjects made description- or experience-based decisions about safe and risky discounts (scratch-and-save promotions). When discounts were

This article is focused on the utilization of tangent curve for description of mechanical behaviour of pressed mixture under compression loading. The aim of this experiment was to determine the general equation describing deformation characteristics of pressed mixtures under compression loading and to verify this equation. The experiment was carried out using mixture of seeds of common sunflower (Heliantus annuus L.), jatropha ( Jatropha curcas L.), garden pea (Pisum sativum L.), common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), and also mixture of spruce wood chips and waste paper chips. Strontium adsorption has been studied by the method of acid-base potentiometric titrations at three different temperatures: 25, 50, 75C. The effect of pH, ionic strength, sorbate/sorbent ratio, and temperature on adsorption was investigated. Experimental data were simulated using two various surface complexation models, with two different electrostatic descriptions of the interface: the constant capacitance model (CCM) and the triple-layer model (TLM). Although the both models used are able to account for the acid-base reactions and surface complexation of strontium on birnessite, we consider
