Although it is practically impossible to completely avoid meat contamination and a wide range of factors may affect the microbial contamination of meat, despite this, microbiological risk analysis is the most effective system for assessing and controlling the safety of meat and meat products, in particular lamb. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to determine the microbiological parameters of lamb obtained from animals affected by monitors, in particular during peak infestations in the southern region.

Using theories in human learning and memory, it has been argued that buyers’ learning of price information is primarily influenced by their learning plans and the criteria they use pin choice decisions. Because of the differences in learning and choice task orientations, buyers are postulated to encode and store the information differently and therefore, different memory tests are necessary to investigate the retrieval mechani

Abstract:
Leptospirosis is a zoonosis caused by spirochetes of the genus Leptospira. It has a worldwide distribution with greater occurrence in tropical and subtropical countries. It is endemic in Brazil. It affects domestic, wild and production animals. The goal of this study was to assess dairy herd productive and reproductive indexes on a monthly basis by serologically monitoring the infection dynamics on two experimental groups: one with animals with negative results at study onset (G-1) and another with animals tested positive for at least one leptospira serovar (G-2). The serum microscopic agglutination test (MAT) was employed. Animals with titer equal to or greater than 100 IU were considered reactive. Animals were evaluated for productive and reproductive indexes based on data provided by the dairy’s IT system. Blood was collected from all animals in both groups once a month for nine months. Analysis showed interference between animals seroreactive to leptospirosis and both milk production and number of pregnancies for G-2 at collection moments 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 whereas for G-1 the same indexes showed decrease only in the 5th and 9th study months. The most prevalent serovars were Hardjoprajitino 59.5%, Pyrogenes 21.04%, Pomona 11.07%, Wollfi 11.07%, Hardjo 8.78%, Guaricura 6.55%, Copenhageni 5.09%, Icterohaemorrhagiae 1.11%, and Ctg 0.83%. Serovar Hardjoprajitino showed a relationship with herd milk production decrease.

Abstract:
In multi-dimensional database environments, such as those typically associated with contemporary data warehousing, we generally require effective indexing mechanisms for all but the smallest data sets. While numerous such methods have been proposed, the R-tree has emerged as one of the most common and reliable indexing models. Nevertheless, as user queries grow in terms of both size and dimensionality, R-tree performance can deteriorate significantly. Moreover, in the multi-terabyte spaces of today’s enterprise warehouses, the combination of data and indexes ? R-tree or otherwise ? can produce unacceptably large storage requirements. In this chapter, the authors present a framework that addresses both of these concerns. First, they propose a variation of the classic R-tree that specifically targets data warehousing architectures. Their new LBF R-tree not only improves performance on common user-defined range queries, but gracefully degrades to a linear scan of the data on pathologically large queries. Experimental results demonstrate a reduction in disk seeks of more than 50% relative to more conventional R-tree designs. Second, the authors present a fully integrated, block-oriented compression model that reduces the storage footprint of both data and indexes. It does so by exploiting the same Hilbert space filling curve that is used to construct the LBF R-tree itself. Extensive testing demonstrates compression rates of more than 90% for multi-dimensional data, and up to 98% for the associated indexes.

This chapter focuses on two remarkable treatises that Newton wrote in the period between 1670 and 1674, Humores minerales and Of Natures obvious laws & processes in vegetation, which provide a theoretical basis for much of his later practical work in chymistry. The importance of these short documents cannot be overstated, as they furnish an unparalleled glimpse into certain features of Newton's thought that implicitly underlie his chaotic corpus of reading notes, synopses, anthologies, indexes, and experimental records. While Humores minerales purveys Newton's response to the early modern fusion of alchemy and mining that led to a cyclical view of mineral generation and corruption, Of Natures obvious laws represents a further stage, a sort of chymical revery on the world.

Abstract:
National accreditation agencies in different countries have set quite strict requirements for accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories. Interlaboratory comparisons (ILCs) are a form of experimental verification of laboratory activities to determine technical competence in a particular activity. Successful results of conducting ILCs for the laboratory are a confirmation of competence in carrying out certain types of measurements by a specific specialist on specific equipment. To obtain reliable results of ILC accredited laboratories, it is necessary to improve the methods of processing these results. These methods are based on various data processing algorithms. Therefore, it is necessary to choose the most optimal method of processing the obtained data, which would allow to obtain reliable results. In addition, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of the calibration laboratories (CLs) when evaluating the results of ILС. Such features are related to the need to provide calibration of measuring instruments for testing laboratories. The evaluation results for ILCs for CLs are presented. The results for all participants of ILCs were evaluated using the En and z indexes. The obtained results showed that for the such ILCs it is also necessary to evaluate the data using the z index also.

Abstract:
This chapter presents basic experimental techniques and various apparatus for measuring the complex index of refraction and related quantities. Generally, measurements of transmittance, reflectance, and emittance are made using spectrometers or lasers. Other important techniques, which measure directly the real refractive index, n, the absorption coefficient, βabs , and the scattering coefficient, βsca, such as interferometry, ellipsometers, calorimetry, and scatterometers, are also introduced. Ultimately, experimental procedures must be taught in the laboratory. Thus, devoting only one chapter to experimental technique and five to theory is not indicative of the importance of this fundamental topic. By discussing the measurement of basic optical parameters, it is intended that the concepts developed in the first five chapters will be reinforced. All of the theoretical models developed in the previous chapters contain measurable parameters. Basic theory often helps guide the design of a good experiment. Once data is available, it can be used to check the assumptions of the theory. This interplay between experiment and theory is an essential part of definitive work. The chapter has two main parts; the first covers measurements of the real and imaginary parts of the complex index of refraction and the second covers measurements of scattering. As established in Chapter 2, the characterization of bulk absorption mechanisms on optical propagation is accomplished by the complex index of refraction. Considerable effort was expended in Chapters 3, 4, and 5 to obtain models of the complex index. Thus, at this point, we wish to find ways to experimentally measure the complex index of refraction for various media. The broad-band spectral response of a medium is commonly measured by a spectrometer. There are two main types of spectrometers, dispersive and interferometric. Generally, spectrometers make broad-band transmission, emission, and reflection measurements, and therefore indirectly measure, n̄. Interferometric measurements, are the exception. Lasers, which feature narrow-band, high-intensity, highly directional light are often used to complement and calibrate broad-band spectrometer measurements. The highest accuracy measurements of the absorption coefficient are obtainable by laser techniques, which can directly measure the components of the complex index.

Abstract:
Pipeline pigging is one of the most widely used wax remediation techniques in field practice. However, it still depends heavily on “rule-of-thumb” due to the limited understanding of wax deposit properties and wax removal mechanisms. By far, laboratory studies on pipeline pigging generally suffer a gross defect in test materials, i.e., the big discrepancy between the experimental wax samples and real wax deposits. To this end, this paper aims to explore the wax removal in pigging with naturally deposited wax, using a self-designed experimental facility. Wax deposit mass and wax content, two de

A detailed analysis of knocking event can help improving engine performance and diagnosis strategies. The paper aim is a better understanding of the phenomena involved in knocking combustion through the combination of CFD and signals analysis tools. CFD simulations have been used in order to reproduce knock effect on the in-cylinder pressure trace. In fact, the in-cylinder pressure signal holds information about waves propagation and heat losses: for the sake of the diagnosis it is important to relate knock severity to knock indexes values. For this purpose, a CFD model has been implemented, a

PROGRESSIVE COLLAPSE RESISTANCE OF STEEL FRAMED BUILDINGS UNDER EXTREME EVENTS. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/ijasc.2021.17.3.10.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper presents experimental and theoretical investigations on progressive collapse behavior of steel framed structures subjected to an extreme load such as fire, blast and impact. A new capacity-based index is proposed to quantify robustness of structures. An energy-based theoretical model is also proposed to quantify the effect of concrete slabs on collapse resistance of structures. The experimental results show that the dynamic amplification factors of frames subject to impact or blast are much less than the conventional value of 2.0. The collapse process of frames in fire can be either

Abstract:
This paper elucidates numerically the behavior of weak-axis moment connections proposed by welding I-shaped plates in the H-section column to increase connection strength and ductility in steel frame. After validating the numerical methods through comparing the results of numerical analysis and experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed weak-axis connection were examined through comparing to the traditional weak-axis connection. The proposed weak-axis connection could move the highest stresses away from the start-stop points of a weld, and thus preventing the premature brittle fracture of
