Objective: Analyze the technical feasibility of reusing waste from the exploitation of three types of commercial granite (yellow granite, swallow gray and peacock green) as materials for applications in infrastructure works, including railway ballast, hydraulic macadam, coarse aggregate for concrete and pavement subgrade. Theoretical Framework: It is based on the principles of Circular Economy and Cleaner Production, highlighting the redirection of solid waste from the ornamental rock industry as inputs for new production cycles, with a focus on resource efficiency and mitigation of environmen

On a trip to Bardsey Island in Gwynedd, North Wales (UK) in summer 2019, I spotted a derelict harbour in a cove called Porth y Pistyll on the North Wales coast near to Porth Meudwy at the tip of the Llŷn Peninsular. The skipper of the Bardsey ferry informed me it was built to service granite quarries. As a result of new research, the full historical significance of the site has now come to light. In 1907, journalist Charles Sheridan Jones took over a pre-existing quarry and jetty and formed The Co-operative Granite Quarries Limited. Others involved included journalist Cecil Chesterton, banker

The art of sculpting is related to the processing of brittle materials, such as granite, marble, and stone, and is implemented using percussive hand tools or rotational roughing tools. The outcome of percussion carving is still directly related to the technique, experience, and capacity of the sculptor. Any attempt to automate the art of sculpturing is exhausted in the subtraction method of brittle materials using a rotating tool. In the process of percussion carving, there is no equivalent expertise. In this work, we present the design, manufacturing (3D printing and CNC machining), and use o

Thermal treatment followed by subsequent cooling conditions (slow and rapid) can induce damage to the rock surface and internal structure, which may lead to the instability and failure of the rock. The extent of the damage is measured by the damage factor (DT), which can be quantified in a laboratory by evaluating the changes in porosity, elastic modulus, ultrasonic velocities, acoustic emission signals, etc. However, the execution process for quantifying the damage factor necessitates laborious procedures and sophisticated equipment, which are time-consuming, costly, and may require technical

A coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) is a more flexible, adaptive, and precise dimensional measuring machine. Being a complicated measuring tool, CMMs can have a wide range of error sources that can lower measurement accuracy and increase measurement result uncertainty. Mapping and compensation techniques are commonly used to minimize measurement error in CMMs. However, the aforesaid techniques require resources and expertise. An alternate and less costly method of lowering CMM measurement error is to measure at its working table's smallest moving structural static deformation site. By looking
