Abstract:
EPX-1 is a new plastic explosive (in the research stage) which has been prepared for military and civilian applications. EPX-1 explosive contains pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) with different particle size as explosive filler bonded by nonenergetic thermoplastic binder plasticized by dibutyl phthalate (DBP). In this paper, the production method of EPX-1 was described. The crystal morphology was studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Heat of combustion was determined experimentally. The compatibility of PETN with the polymeric matrix was studied by vacuum stability test. Sensitivit

SIFCON (Slurry Infiltrated Fiber Reinforced Concrete) is a composite which occur hardening of the matrix phase, consists of cement, water, mineral additives, fine sand, water reducing plasticizer, and reinforced with high volume fiber (5–20%). The main difference from the high strength concrete (HSC) is the ductile behaviour at failure. However, the brittleness increases with the strength increase in HSC, SIFCON has a ductile behaviour because of the high volume fiber content, low permeability, high durability. Despite fiber content is 2-3% in fiber reinforced concrete, fiber content may be te

This research examined the effect of high temperatures on reinforced concrete beams made from the groundworks of Hassia region in Syria. Concrete received additions of silica ash and plasticizers. Concrete cubic samples were then prepared with dimensions (15*15*15 cm), and samples for beams with simple support on both sides, with fixed dimensions for all samples of (b*h* L = 18*25*150 cm, respectively), and with a covering thickness of 3 cm. These samples were heated at the age of 28 days to different temperatures in all aspects using an electric oven, which was specially manufactured for this

Abstract:
This project developed from an industrial need for a plasticiser for explosives formulations which is easier to manufacture, more stable than those presently employed, but still based on a polynitroaromatic nucleus. The major aim of this programme was to produce new liquid or low melting polynitroaromatic compounds by simple routes. A literature search highlighted various molecular features which appeared to produce a low melting temperature in polynitroaromatic compounds. Using these features, four categories of compounds were identified as target compounds for a synthetic programme to produc
