Abstract:
The paper focuses on the Czechoslovak pavilions at the 1967 and 1970 World Expos. Both events took place in the period around 1968, when, however briefly, the Czechoslovak visual arts partially overlapped with the state's cultural policy. The pavilions (especially at Expo 70) also reflected the socio- political contexts of the year 1968.. In Czechoslovakia towards the end of the 1960s, the purpose of "exhibitioning" - i.e., the state-sponsored exhibition trade - was to communicate with the public and to (re)present the country abroad. Its main goal was to promote and spread the ruling ideology

In 1970, Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic returned to Japan for the second tour, again with Seiji Ozawa. The tour was organized partly in conjunction with the Osaka Expo ’70, symbolizing Japan’s rapid rise as an economic power and the expansion of the classical music fan base in the nation. Seiji Ozawa, now an international maestro in his own right, led the tour along with Bernstein and conducted Toru Takemitsu’s November Steps. During the tour, Kazuko Amano and her family enjoyed their second encounter with Bernstein, but her joyful time was cut short by her domestic obligations.

Abstract:
The aerothermodynamic component and engine development of a 70kW microturbine turbogenerator is discussed. The design incorporated a single stage centrifugal compressor mounted back-to-back with a single stage radial inflow turbine both mounted on a common shaft rotating at 90,000 rpm and directly coupled to a permanent magnet generator. Component testing of the compressor and turbine was conducted at existing academic facilities prior to engine development testing which subsequently demonstrated better output power than design projections as a consequence of higher component efficiencies, inc

The significant reduction in power output of small gas turbines at high ambient temperatures places the technology at a significant disadvantage compared with reciprocating engines. On site power applications in many jurisdictions are experiencing high power costs during summer peak times. A variable speed industrial fan combined with an evaporative cooler has been constructed and operated in the CETC laboratory in Ottawa, Canada to supply supercharged inlet air to a microturbine rated at 70 kW at ISO conditions. The supercharging system can raise the inlet air pressure by 10.5 kPa (42” wc). A

The thermal efficiency improvement of fossil power generation is important to reduce both CO2 emission and power generating cost. To date, 60% (LHV) has been achieved with ACC (Advanced Combined Cycle) and a calculation result of 70% (LHV) or more has been reported for SOFC-GT hybrid. Then, we examined the thermal efficiency improvement considering the features of the gas turbine and the fuel cell, and designed the epoch-making cycle. By markedly improving the single-cell voltage of MCFC using oxygen as an oxidant, and having adopted a semiclosed cycle configuration in which gas turbine exhaus

An implicit, time-accurate 3D compressible RANS solver is used to simulate rotating stall inception and recovery, the so-called rotating stall hysteresis, in a modern fan geometry. In the first instance, rotating stall was simulated for 70%, 80% and 90% fan speeds using a whole-annulus fan model with a variable-area nozzle downstream. As the fan speed is increased, the stall cell also increases in size but the number of stall cells decreases. One large stall cell is predicted to rotate along the annulus at 80% and 90% speeds, while there are three smaller cells at 70% speed. In all cases, the
