A study was conducted to investigate the communication process through which the extension workers of Benue Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (BNARDA) disseminate improved farm practices to rural women farmers. A total of 250 women farmers who were in contact with the extension services were randomly selected and interviewed. The results showed that 90% of them recognized personal contacts, group meetings of farmers, and method-and-result demonstration sites as channels through which they communicated with the extension workers. Classical cadherin adhesion molecules are key determinants of cell–cell recognition during development and in post-embryonic life. A decisive step in productive cadherin-based recognition is the conversion of nascent adhesions into stable zones of contact. It is increasingly clear that such contact zone extension entails active cooperation between cadherin adhesion and the force-generating capacity of the actin cytoskeleton. Cortactin has recently emerged as an important regulator of actin dynamics in several forms of cell motility. We now report that cortactin is recruited to cell–cell adhesi

Abstract:
Remnants of the early-Ottawan thrust-sheet stack are exposed in the Central Gneiss Belt (CGB, lower portion of stack) and the Composite Arc Belt (upper portion of stack). Post-collisional vertical thinning and associated horizontal extension of the stack produced structures ranging over eight orders of magnitude in horizontal length, and both orogen-parallel and orogen-perpendicular in orientation. At the 100 km scale, the fold-induced constriction in the northern Parry Sound domain appears to have been enhanced, and lineation trend lines in its footwall locally deflected, by a component of NW

Surface and sub-surface defects alter the stress distribution in the material and tend to significantly reduce the life of elastohydrodnamic (EHL) contacts. Where the defects lie well below the surface their effect may be obtained by taking the EHL pressures from standard analyses and using these to determine the stress distribution. However, defects lying closer to the surface can produce significant local displacements and alter the EHL pressures. Analysis is difficult because these displacements change as the defect passes under the conjunction and calculation tends to be extremely time con

High-speed cine recordings of prey capture by the squid Loligo pealei were used to analyze the kinematics of the rapid tentacular strike. The proximal portion of the tentacle, the stalk, elongates during the strike. The non-extensible distal portion of the tentacle, the club, contacts the prey and attaches using suckers. Seven sequences of prey capture filmed at 750 frames s-1 were analyzed frame by frame. The positions of the head, the tentacles and the prey were digitized, and the data were smoothed using quintic natural B-splines and the generalized cross-validation (GCV) criterion. During

This study aimed to identify the factors influencing the commercialization of tomato production among farmers in the Wolayita and Gamo zones of southern Ethiopia. The study utilized both primary and secondary data sources. Primary data were collected through a household survey using a structured questionnaire, employing multistage and purposive sampling techniques to select 160 tomato-producing households. Descriptive statistics and an econometric model were applied for data analysis. The descriptive statistics showed that the average commercialization of smallholder farmers in the study area

Background There was a ‘missing millions’ gap between the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) cases and the notified cases. In many TB high-burden countries, only about 25% of household contacts (HHCs) completing household TB evaluation and 20–89% of eligible contacts did not adhere to TB screening. The study was conducted to assess the yield of door-to-door TB household contact investigation among household contact of bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary TB cases in central Ethiopia. In the tectonic window of Doliana (central Peloponnesus, Greece) a variety of geological formations occurs deriving from different sedimentation palaeoenvironments and characterized by different tectonometamorphic evolution. These rocks initially formed thrust nappes of great extension and thickness which stacked one over the other during the Lower Oligocene-Lower Miocene. The early compressing structures that were formed by the emplacement of the nappes were almost totally overprinted by the later-orogenic extension that affected the nappe-column in the Upper Miocene-Lower Pliocene. Commercial 4H-SiC epitaxial wafers with 10, 20 and 45 +m thick n layers (with donor concentrations of 3×1015, 8×1014 and 8×1014 cm-3, respectively) were used. Boron implants annealed under argon flow at 1500°C for 30 minutes, without any additional protection of the SiC surface, were used to form JTE’s. After annealing, the total charge in the JTE was tuned by reactive ion etching. Diodes with molybdenum Schottky contacts exhibited maximum reverse voltages of 1.45,

Nonlinearities in practical systems can arise in contacts between components, possibly from friction or impacts. However, it is also known that quadratic and cubic nonlinearity can occur in the stiffness of structural elements undergoing large amplitude vibration, without the need for local contacts. Nonlinearity due purely to large amplitude vibration can then result in significant energy being found in frequency bands other than those being driven by external forces. To analyse this phenomenon, a method is developed here in which the response of the structure in the frequency domain is divid

Communication networks in space systems involving the use of satellite constellations are DTN networks (Delay and Disruption Tolerant Networks). The establishment of communication channels in space communication networks has certain specifics: communication channels can be planned. In this regard, the CGR approach (Contact Graph Routing) is considered as the most promising solution to the problem of data routing. At the basis of this approach, taking into account this specificity, the calculation of the contact plan is considered. On the basis of this plan in the network nodes contact graphs a
