In a multi storied building, the beam column joint is one of the most critical regions. Usually the beam column joint was considered as rigid frames. Various researchers over the past years indicated that the joint is not rigid. Now it is also stated that instead of the failure in beam and column, failure can also occur in joint hence joint must be considered as a structural member. The Indian standards define a joint as the portion of the column within the depth of the deepest beam that frames into the column. AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON SEISMIC PERFORMANCE OF STEEL COMPOSITE BEAM-COLUMN RIGID JOINT AND BUCKLING RESTRAINED KNEE-BRACED JOINT. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/ijasc.2023.19.4.6.

Abstract:
This paper evaluates the seismic performance of conventional steel composite beam-column rigid joints, and a novel buckling restrained knee-braced joint (BRKBJ), considering the impact of the floor slab. A series of quasi-static comparative tests were conducted to analyze the failure mode, load-bearing capacity, hysteresis performance, and ductility of both types of joints. Our findings revealed that the hysteretic curve of the BRKBJ exhibits a robust and shuttle-like shape, suggesting an adequate energy dissipation performance. However, its yield displacement is relatively small. Conversely,

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON CYCLIC BEHAVIOR OF BLIND-BOLT JOINT CONNECTING STEEL BEAM AND RECTANGULAR TUBE COLUMN. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/ijasc.2023.19.2.1.

Full text
Abstract:
An experimental investigation on the cyclic behavior of the joints for steel H-shaped beams to steel rectangular tube columns using end-plate and blind bolts is conducted in this paper. The load-bearing capacity, rotation stiffness and hysteretic behavior of the joints are studied. In terms of the types of beams (pure steel beam and composite steel beam with concrete slab) and columns (pure steel rectangular tube column and concrete-filled steel rectangular tube column), a total of four different joints are tested and compared. It is found that filling concrete in rectangular tube columns can

RETROFIT EFFECT AND FLEXURAL CAPACITY OF H-SECTION BEAM- THROUGH BEAM-COLUMN CONNECTIONS FOR STEEL MODULAR FRAMES. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2025. https://doi.org/10.18057/ijasc.2025.21.2.4.

Abstract:
Beam-through steel beam-column configurations are distinct from traditional column-through steel structures because they discontinue columns at each floor by bolting upper and lower columns to floor beam flanges. It facilitates modular manufacturing and floor/modular erection, which provides more opportunities for low to mid-level steel structures. Compared to its constructability superiority, beam-through configurations typically create a weaker beam-column joint than traditional beam-column connections adopted in the current building codes. In a numerical approach, this study investigates th

ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF AXIALLY LOADED SQUARE CFST COLUMN TO RC BEAM JOINTS STIFFENED BY DIAGONAL RIBS. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/ijasc.2023.19.1.6.

Abstract:
This work proposes a partially through-beam joint system to connect square concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns and reinforced concrete (RC) beams. In the system, the holes in the steel tube allow longitudinal beam reinforcements to be continuous through the joint zone to achieve direct load-transfer of the beam, and the square steel tube with holes is strengthened by welding diagonal ribs located at the corners of the steel tube. Finite element (FE) analyses on joints with RC beams were carried out based on verified models. The analysis results showed that diagonal ribs welded to the
