Abstract: The Arabian Gulf region, characterized by its extreme environmental conditions, poses unique challenges for the durability and performance of exterior furniture coatings. High temperatures, intense ultraviolet (UV) radiation, humidity, and airborne salinity create a harsh setting that accelerates the degradation of protective coatings. This article explores the materials, application methods, and resistance strategies tailored to ensure the longevity and aesthetic appeal of outdoor furniture in such climates. By examining the interplay of environmental stressors, coa

Purpose – The purpose of this paper was to prepare a fluorinated acrylate resin, which would be synthesised via solution polymerisation of fluorinated monomer, acrylate monomers and other functional monomers. Relevant characterisation and application studies were also carried out. Fluorinated polymers are expected to be adopted in specific coatings to afford outstanding advantages, such as high chemical and photochemical resistance, low surface tension and low refractive index. At present, fluorinated cathodic electrodeposition (CED) coatings are attracting the attention that they deserve and

Stone veneer has been known for a long time. But mostly it has been used as a finishing material, which is widely applied in decorating the outer surfaces of buildings and facilities. Stone veneer is a thin cut of natural stone - slate, which is applied to fiberglass or textiles. The thickness of the veneer is in the range of 2-3 mm. Stone veneer is available in the form of rolls or tiles. Due to its flexibility, it can be used to refine surfaces that have angles and small radius of curvature. The flexibility of stone veneer is a unique property, since natural stone is

At the beginning of the 20th century, over 40% by weight of all the materials consumed through the production of goods within the United States were comprised of renewable resources (Matos and Wagner 1998). In contrast, by the end of the 20th century renewable material usage had dropped to less than 8% by weight (Matos and Wagner 1998). Combined with both an increase in the overall rate at which we consume resources as well as growing awareness of the inherently finite availability of nonrenewable resources, the early decades of the 21st century may mark the beginning of a shift back to an inc

They grow without us is a temporary public furniture installation grown from mushrooms. The project builds upon transdisciplinary research at the intersection of material science, mycology, and sustainable building technology. To fabricate the furniture, damp sawdust was sterilized and inoculated with a blend of Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom spores and nutrients and poured into aerated hexagonal molds. While in the mold, the fungus produces mycelium, a cross-linked matrix of polysaccharides in the pore spaces between sawdust particles. The process produces solid mycelium bio-composites objects
