In this thesis we examine the viability of a recent proposal, known as Supersymmetric Large Extra Dimensions (SLED), for solving both the cosmological constant and the hierarchy problems. Central to this proposal is the requirement of two large extra dimensions of size r_c ~ 10 micrometres together with a low value for the higher-dimensional scale of gravity, M_* ~ 10 TeV. Some recent theories which try to amend shortcomings of current models in physics suggest the existence of additional dimensions. Such extra dimensions would modify the inverse square law of gravity. A short overview over gravitational theory is presented and some of the extensions to general relativity and models which use extra dimensions, so-called Kaluza–Klein theories are discussed. A derivation of the correction to Newton’s gravitational law due to extra dimensions is performed and yields an additional term of Yukawa-type. Perhaps the most conservative extension to the Standard Model to offer an explanation is to include a symmetry between the families. One of the most promising candidates for this symmetry is the discrete group A4, the symmetry group of the tetrahedron. Tal hípótese é bastante atrativa para completar o Modelo Padrão a altas energias. Problemas como hierarquia e naturalidade podem ser mais facilmente evitados. No contexto de uma força forte porém métodos de cálcu
