AbstractThe availability of immersion suits on board merchant ships is recommended in 1983 Amendments to the international convention for the safety of life at sea, 1974 (IMO). Suits approved by the Federal German Republic were tested in a wave tank using an immersible dummy. Extra buoyancy in the head region was required to correct the horizontal floating position. Buoyancy from a life-jacket was preferred to other sources. At 1 m wave height, flooding time of the face varied from 0.3% for one suit to 100% for another. The formula for the natural frequency of torsional vibrations of the DNA helix is obtained by methods of mathematical physics. The data on the dependence of E. coli survival on the time of exposure to centimeter waves were analyzed, the numerical coefficient in the resulting formula was determined. When irradiated with centimeter waves of this frequency, a significant decrease in the survival rate of another strain of E. coli was obtained. Similar experiments on three other bacterial cultures

In this study, we investigated how climatic variability affects the inter-annual variation in the proportion of extra-pair litters in a wild population of Alpine marmots. During 22 year

Recent findings suggest that proper assessment of comorbidities is useful to predict the outcome of MDS patients receiving allogeneic transplantation. Replicative stress (RS) is a type of endogenous DNA damage that cells suffer every time they duplicate their genomes, and which is further boosted by oncogenes. In mammals, the RS response (RSR) is coordinated by ATR and Chk1 kinases. We sought to develop a mammalian organism that is selectively protected from RS. To this end, mice carrying an extra copy of the Chk1 gene were generated. In vitro, Chk1 transgenic cells are protected from RS-inducing agents. Moreover, an extra Chk1 allele prolongs the survival of ATR-Seckel mice, which suffer from high levels of RS, but not that of ATM-deficient
