Various extracts of Entada abyssinica stem/root bark have been shown to have antimicrobial activity using organisms : Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus megaterium, Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger and Tricophyton mentagrophytes on solid media. Chromatographic analysis of the bark extracts of different trees (according to age), showed them to contain in common the components responsible for the observed antimicrobial activity with differences observed in minor bands not of antimicrobial importance.

The antimicrobial properties of Manuka honey and its use as a topical wound treatment is now widely recognised but of limited availability in developing countries. This study examines the physico-chemical properties and antimicrobial activity of Sudanese honeys and synergistic interactions between selected honeys and plant extracts. Echinacea purpurea is a rich source of biologically active compounds, which are attributed to several therapeutic effects. This thesis is focused on the optimization of the extraction process, considered these substances. Maceration was chosen as a type of extraction, due to its simplicity. The Optimal conditions were solid-solvent ratio 1: 5, 40% ethanol, 60 °C, 60 minutes. An extract from the dried flowers of Echinacea purpurea was prepared by this optimized process. The content of total phenolic compounds was set on 365.18 ± 3.51 [mg_GAEl^(-1)] and the antioxidant activity was 507.50 ± 6.89
