Ninth grade students from Los Angeles area high schools (analyzed sample N = 3268) completed paper-and-pencil surveys across four annual waves; hedonic hunger was assessed at Wave 1, and unhealthy food and drink intake was assessed at Waves 1–4. At the heart of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and their successors, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is the commitment to reduce and ultimately eradicate extreme poverty in all its forms. While extreme poverty can be measured in different ways, hunger is certainly one of its cruellest manifestations. The first MDG set the target of halving the proportion of people who suffer from hunger between 1990 and 2015 and the SDG’s headline target is the ending of hunger by 2030.This article attempts to look back at the role European Union (EU)’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) may h

Both of these food security strategies have been affected by natural disasters in recent years making it difficult for households to access food. Abstract:A problem of describing a optical properties of dense plasma arises from the inconsistency of the application of the models for plasma of moderate or extreme densities onto high density plasma. Although it is not of extreme interest in laser confined fusion, the interest of plasma of moderate and high density is of high importance in Solar and stellar plasma, especially in photosphere region. From the reason of applicability, the steps for inclusion of complex ions are made. Since the moderate density plasma models are not capable to describe a strong collective phenomena in dense pla

The specific territorial shape and geographic position of the Republic of Croatia (RH) which is a result of dynamic historical-geographical development, has resulted in a very complex land border in a European comparative sense. The RH has a land border with Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and Montenegro with a total length of over 2,300 km. Borders between the RH, BiH, Serbia, and Montenegro are at the same time state borders and the external border of the European Union (EU). In contemporary border studies, border areas are treated as national but also functional per

Full text
Abstract:
Our unequal global food system is unsustainable for people and planet. We urgently need to rethink how the world feeds its people. The food crisis we are facing is not new. Extreme inequality and poverty, rights abuses, conflict, climate change and inflation – exacerbated by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine – mean that hundreds of millions of people do not have enough to eat. While millions of people are struggling to find their next meal, the world’s main food traders have made record profits, adding billions to their collective wealth. This paper debunks 10 myths about our food system and

Abstract:
South Sudan is home to one of the world’s worst hunger crises, a consequence of decades of armed conflict and devastating extreme weather events. Conflict, climate change and hunger have forcibly displaced nearly seven million people, out of a population of 11 million. The World Food Programme (WFP) operates in the middle of this intersection. In 2022, WFP provided food assistance to nearly 6 million people. This food assistance has an impact on conflict and peacebuilding dynamics. This report analyses the impact of that assistance, drawing out the contribution of WFP’s programming to enhancin

Since 2020, the richest five men in the world have doubled their fortunes. During the same period, almost five billion people globally have become poorer. Hardship and hunger are a daily reality for many people worldwide. At current rates, it will take 230 years to end poverty, but we could have our first trillionaire in 10 years. This report shows how a huge concentration of global corporate and monopoly power is exacerbating inequality economy-wide. Abstract:
Expanding world hunger calls for increasing available food resources. Ruminants have the remarkable ability to convert human-indigestible plant biomass into human-digestible food products, due to a complex microbiome residing in the rumen compartment of their upper digestive tract. One way to tackle the problem of diminishing food resources is to increase the animals' energetic efficiency, i.e., the efficiency with which they convert energy from feed, thereby increasing food availability while lowering the environmental burden, as these animals would produce more and eat less. The only fibre-optic cable that connects the islands with the rest of the world was severely damaged, leaving the entire country offline for more than three weeks.
