Cardoso, Raquel Filipa Francisco. "Traumatismo dentário em dentição permanente jovem." Master's thesis, [s.n.], 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10284/4758.
Introduction: Epidemiological studies show that dental trauma is a significant problem in young people between the ages of 8-15 years and its incidence in certain age groups even exceeds tooth decay and periodontal incidence disease. Thus, dental trauma is revealed as a public health problem, in which its increase is mainly due to traffic accidents, practice of extreme sports and even domestic violence. Of the most evident etiologic factors include the lip projection and increased overjet. Objective: It is intended to perform a bibliographic review addressing the diverse dental trauma, acquiring not only knowledge about the etiology, prevalence, relation to gender and age, as well as associated factors, emergency and ongoing treatment plans, possible complications, prognosis and prevention. Materials and Methods: A research was made in two databases of relevant literature concerning the proposed subject with time restriction of the last seven years (2007-2014) and the keywords "dental trauma", "tooth injuries", "permanent teeth", "prevalence" "tooth avulsion", "extreme sports", "treatment", "aesthetic", "primary care", "urgent care", in electronic databases such as Medline, PubMed, SciELO and B-on. The research was completed with specialty books in the Library of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Fernando Pessoa University and sites of national and international of health reputation. Conclusions: The dental trauma, to be considered a major public health problem, acquires a special importance. It can cause irreversible dental losses in some cases, both during the accident, as in the course of treatment, or even in the future. Thus, this condition can cause serious aesthetic, functional, psychological and social damages, in addition to producing significant cost to the patient. An approach with a proper treatment allows a more favorable long-term prognosis; but also emphasizes the importance of effective prevention, to avoid increasing the number of dental traumatic injuries.

”Longboards” is a degree project in the Innovations- and design engineering program at Karlstad University. The job requestor is Space Production AB with Dan Edanius, Art director and senior project manager, as the project owner.
Space Production AB started out as a showcase carpentry company but has today evolved into a company that operates complete exhibitions and events. The company’s main business is to produce, install and store branded environments designed by another party but also supplies everything from idea sketches to assemblage and service. One of Space projects spring 2008 was the production of Slalom Skateboarding World Championships and it was through this a degree project was created.
The task was to create a diverse product line containing three models of longboards. The products would be unique and aimed at a niche market but yet be sellable and appeal to the upper segment buyer. Further the opportunity to create more wild concepts that could be used in future projects was given.
An extensive research on materials, market, target group and culture, resulted in a creative design process. Through a target group analysis a number of reference consumers were created. Their needs worked as inspiration and was analysed. Two separate sessions of idea generating were the fundament of a categorization that eventually resulted in eight strong concepts that was presented to the management group.
The project has resulted in three developed concepts that could potentially broaden the existing longboard market as well as a band of ideas that could be used for inspiration of future projects.

Full textThe analysis of the blood metabolites can show the metabolic behavior during physical exercises. This study aimed to analyze the electrochemical and acid base disorders behavior in Parkour athlets, during an exercise routine that used basic movements of this particular sport. Twenty three male athletes (average of 21,4±2,7 years old) with a minimum of two years of experience in Parkour were evaluated. The capillary blood was collected through the fingers in five diferent moments: (1) rest, (2) after warm-up, (3) after exercise, (4) five minutes later and (5) ten minutes later. A course using basic Parkour movements was used as reference. The samples were analyzed by the gasometric equipment GEM Premier 3000. The variables pH, sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), lactate and bicarbonate (HCO3−) were used. The pH, lactate and HCO3− showed significant variation (p<0,05) in most of the analyzed moments. Ca2+, Na+ and K+ values showed significant difference right after the exercise and a fast recovery after five and ten minutes when compared to the reference values. Results showed a physiological adaptation of electrolytes with a fast recovery back to the reference values. The values of pH, lactate e HCO3− present an anaerobic system usage, as well as a clear metabolic acidosis post exercise. The values obtained in this study are similar to high performance athletes values, mostly in strength and speed modalities. This study contributes to the understanding of the eletrochemical and acid-basic disorders behavior of Parkour athletes, filling a gap in the literature.

Full textThe problem of performance in extreme sailing navigation has been very little studied using rigorous scientific methods consistently and at an angle of view in global environmental conditions. Our work sought to evaluate human behavior in ecological conditions with environmentalist and transactional approach. The main objective of this thesis was to understand what the impact of environmental factors such as wind strength and the amount of sleep as well as cognitive stimulation using a video self-modeling on perception of anxiety, fatigue and exercise tolerance in maximal aerobic speed. The results of the first study, ecological condition, where the influence of wind and sleep deprivation were modeled using the tool transfers functions, has to understand that the sailor makes a time- dependent regulation of its commitment and efforts and hardships such as that of sleep. This regulation is related to the perception of anxiety and intensity of perceived fatigue and is influenced by environmental factors such as wind or sleep deprivation. This study also showed that there is a relationship between the duration of the engagement, as measured by the number of days at sea, and the amount of sleep needed, allowing withstand environmental conditions. A second study in extreme conditions, this time with a crew of two people using the same protocol confirmed that the amount of sleep was the best activator can act on anxiety and allow its better regulation. A third study, we showed that the tolerance to stress, as measured by perceived exertion, was not exclusively coupled to a physiological response but also cognitive factors. The main result of this pilot study was to show that the use of video feedback as cognitive stimulation significantly reduces the perception of effort from 50 % of the duration of the event. Contrary to what might be expected, no effect was observed on heart rate. All of these results suggest the importance of the interaction environment - individual in extreme environments, and in a test conducted to the limits of exhaustion. These results open interesting perspectives in the fields of sports training and rehabilitation

Full textParticipants in extreme sports have usually been studied from a risk perspective. The present study seeks to move away from this preconception and aims to study the emotional subjective experience. A qualitative methodology with phenomenological-hermeneutic design was used taking as a tool conversational systems. The informants were 8 extreme athletes belonging to the same group. Extreme sports included were: Mountain climbing, rappelling, bungee jumping, and mountaineering. The results indicate that fear is a generator of freedom, it can be useful, it is rewarding and it is also a promoter of personal transformations. This research gives theoretical value to the reason for involvement in extreme sports.

Full textThe goal of the thesis was to develop an individual fatigue management tool called Scextan® and designed as a software application. The development of this system involved several research and validation steps. We first describe sleep patterns of single-handed sailors, who have to manage severe sleep deprivation. Results suggested that single-handed sailors are subject to the same principles of sleep regulation as healthy adults and we choose these subjects as our mains test population. In a second step, we developed and validated the Scextan® software application. Results revealed that Scextan® is more accurate than a paper-based sleep diary. The third study was to measure fatigue in single-handed ocean race and compare the results with a mathematical prediction model of performances, which was able to predict 67% of the measured fatigue. Lastly, skippers of the 2010 "Route du Rhum" single-handed transatlantic race were offered use of Scextan®. The race winner was the only sailor to use it intensively to manage and rationallyanticipate his state of alertness. Although Scextan® is still being improved, it has already proved itself to be a valuable research tool and is on the way to becoming an individual management tool

Full textNowadays MMA is truly a phenomenon of society, it is among the fastest-growing sports of our time. The French translation frequently uses the words: arts martiaux mixtes. Contemporary sport par excellence, MMA was born and expanded during the late 20th century where it remained very marginalized. Its expansion came in the 1990s thanks to media coverage. This sport experienced an inversed process of sportivization. It is characterized by a hesitant reception from authorities, Olympic sport federations and public opinion: the cage, blood and hitting a grounded opponent pose problems for many observers. These negative aspects may be found in the social and individual representations in the answers of surveyed individuals, both initiated and non-initiated to hybrid combat sports. Mixed Martial Arts competition is not allowed in France, while athletes are more and more numerous within French MMA academies and gyms. This sport combines opposing concepts: otherness based on the utilization of instrumental, potentially destructive aggression, a violent but socializing reciprocity and a manly, capitalist sport which is based on liberalism and a stripping of state power. Taken in a post-moral context, the violence acts out against the process of pacification. This process is associated with a search for security and peace. Finally, the intensive bodily engagement of MMA does not correspond with the healthy body cult which predominates nowadays. Therefore, this practice questions the role of sport entertainment within a peaceful society

Full textRisk-taking behaviors constitute a growing domain, yet not well known. Our research’s goal aimed at identifying the psychobiological and emotional determinants of risky physical activities: rally, lifestyle sports, horse riding, golf players and circus artists (N = 507). We compared the temperament and character of young horse riders and young golfers, both in Tunisia and in France. We then compared the telic dominance of participants in different kinds of sports. We also tested changes in emotional states, neuroticism, escape and alexithymia related to risk-taking. Finally, we identified the personality profiles, specifically the telic dominance and sensation seeking and the perceived stress among circus artists. We have followed the evolution of their cortisol level while training and during a show. The results show that the horse riders and golfers have a high score on persistence and harm avoidance. Motor sports imply more risk-taking than lifestyle sports. The rally context allows its followers to decrease their level of negative affect, neuroticism and alexithymia, which contributes to the adoption of reckless behaviors. Circus artists are paratelic, sensation seekers, and perceive a low level of stress; their cortisol level is higher during the show than on a training day. Overall, we could identify the individual differences that would promote involvement in physical activities at risk, while noting the role of motivational, emotional, biological variables and personality factors in the understanding of such a commitment

Full textMan has always in one way or another had to take risks in order to survive, but in today's society, voluntary risks increased markedly. It is about both physical and financial risks. The aim of this essay is to problematize what it is for properties that drive people to extreme sports and adventure travel. We want to see how extreme sports performers own picture looks compared to how the media presents them. We have in this essay interviewed two long sailors, a BASE jumper and an ex-mountain climber to see how the performers own picture of reality looks. We examined how the media presents different extreme sports in the form of news magazines and lifestyle magazine. We have concluded that there is a huge gap between the self images of their sport compared to how the media presents them. News Magazines often deals with risks and dangers of extreme sports and put them in different contexts in their articles and that the sport is to demonstrate its capacity, to reach goals, triumph and prestige. Also Sunday supplement that are not news-oriented have the same main focus. Lifestyle magazines image of extreme sports performers is more consistent with the addition to the participants own image in which the actual experience and lifestyle is important and not the risk-seeking.

Participants were 15 professional sailors, ranging in age from 23-49 years (M age = 35.9 years; SD = 7.4), who competed in the 2005/06 VOR. After receiving approval from the Temple University Institutional Review Board, the researcher recruited participants who were subsequently required to provide informed consent to participate in the study. Using a semi-structured interview format, face-to-face interviews were completed with three sailors in Miami, FL, and with nine sailors in Valencia, Spain (three interviews with individual participants, one interview with two participants, and a focus group with four participants). Three interviews were completed via telephone. All interviews were transcribed verbatim. Each transcript was then analysed through an inductive open coding process. Data analysis revealed nine major themes (Background, Skiffs on Steroids, Boat Breakdowns, Managing Self, Pressure, Tragedy, Extreme, Team, and Reflecting) with associated subthemes, and three dimensions (Resonance, Edgework, and Performance Capacities) with associated subdimensions. A framework for understanding the experiences of the sailors was conceived in the form of a model depicting the dimensions of resonance (a passion for adventure and the VOR in particular), edgework (a desire and ability to perform in high-risk, life threatening situations), and performance capacities (team, individual, and boat). The model suggests an interplay between the dimensions of edgework and resonance, against which is set the performance dimension. This study is the first to take a glimpse inside the experiences of professional ocean racing sailors who compete in fully crewed around-the-world races. Findings confirm the widely held belief that the VOR is an extreme and unique event in the world of sport.

Full textDefy or play with gravity, exploring the depths and bring their stamina or just their body, compete with the natural elements by frequenting, a priori, hostile environments: as many forms of sport exposure to danger that intrigue and fascinate at a time. This work is an exploration of the process of corporal engagement and disengagement, considered in their epistemic and empirical aspects. Two main questions mark this analysis: 1) how to conceive the corporal engagement in its complexity, through dialogue and complementary patterns of intelligibility; 2) more specifically, how do they become engaged in such activities, and why, suddenly, they decide to “hang up”?The analysis of thirty stories of sportsmen engaged in "at-risk" nature activities highlights the dynamic process of engagement, retention and disengagement. Thus, if commitment is rarely the result of chance, it is more than a mere reflexivity. Sometimes the commitment is born from experiences and unpredictable encounters. This work also confirms the results of many motivations studies of practitioners: search of sensation, autonomy, performance, subcultural emulation, etc. However, it differs from showing how these patterns of engagement, far from opposing, they are articulated and completed in a systematic way. Finally, after stressing the crucial role, in the eyes of the respondents, of the autonomy and the responsibility set up as true ethics, we show how difficult is to disengage. To hang up is a process experienced differently depending on whether the sportsman was prepared or not.To understand physical engagement requires a final enlargement as regards body, culture, risk and security, autonomy, and from a broader perspective, responsibility. Therefore, the body engagement constitutes a support in perfect harmony with its time: it mixes, combines, and sometimes objects the dynamics of identity induced by capacities, reflexivity and emotions

Secondly, they show an imbalence between what people can win and what they can loose. In these sports, life is engaged. "Reason" has difficulty to give intelligibility to theses practices. Involvement in extreme sports is even more surprising, when it concerns women. Even less than men, they chose to practive these sports that are quite exclusively masculine. And even when men and women choose the same discipline, their paths are quite differents. The way they practice are not more similars. Particularly, risk taking is generaly different between men and women. And risk not only differentiates men's and women's manners, it also produces a gender hierarchy. That's why we can say that risk shapes the relations between men and women. Attached to masculinity, risk takes part to "males's production" and contributes to build male's domination. But this domination is neither total, nor natural, nor unchanging. It's a social construction, produced by the meeting of two antagonistic groups. Consequently resistances exist and participate to the definition of gender
