An optimum composting recipe was investigated to reduce pathogenic microorganisms in a forced-aerated in-vessel system (55 liters). The feedstocks used for in-vessel composting were food waste, cow manure, and bulking materials (wood shavings and mulch hay). A statistical extreme vertices mixture design method was used to design the composting experiments and analyze the collected data. Each mixture (nine total) was replicated randomly three times. Temperature was monitored as an indicator of the efficiency of the composting experiments. The maximum temperature values of the mixtures were used

In the present investigation, a combination of Eudragit L 30 D 55 and ethyl cellulose are used as enteric materials in a spray dried form to constitute the barrier layer for compression coating of directly compressed PSS core tablets. The study also includes analysis of the effect of Eudragit L 30 D 55 and ethyl cellulose and their optimisation using an extreme vertices design. Dissolution profile of compression coated tablets was best fitted to zero order and first order dissolution models. Mechanism of drug release was found to be Super case - II transport in all the batches as evidenced fro

Abstract Offshore structures in recent time are witnessing the increased application of dissimilar metal welds for enhanced structural integrity. Offshore structures are complex systems. Fabrication, maintenance, and repair of these structures require conventional and advanced welding technologies along with suitably chosen welding consumables. The present work aims at the design and development of shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) electrode coating using extreme vertices design methodology. This work also attempts to study weld metal chemistry along with microstructure and microhardness. Red

AbstractWe propose a novel Möbius interpolator that takes as an input a discrete map between the vertices of two planar triangle meshes, and outputs a continuous map on the input domain. The output map interpolates the discrete map, is continuous between triangles, and has low quasi‐conformal distortion when the input map is discrete conformal. Our map leads to considerably smoother texture transfer compared to the alternatives, even on very coarse triangulations. Furthermore, our approach has a closed‐form expression, is local, applicable to any discrete map, and leads to smooth results even

The field performance of hydraulic oils depends on factors such as the viscosity index (VI), flash point (FP), pour point (PP), and demulsibility. A hydraulic oil formulation was performed by applying a multiresponse optimization, for which the PP was minimized, the FP, demulsibility, and VI were maximized. The range of viscosities at 40 and 100 °C was selected according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) viscosity grade for hydraulic oil. The experiments were accomplished according to an extreme vertices mixture design using solvent neutral-100 (SN-100) and SN-500 as

SummaryMung bean by‐product (MBB), containing high protein and dietary fibre, was selected as the main ingredient to make fresh gluten‐free pasta. Effects of MBB flour, egg white powder (EWP) and water on pasta quality were investigated by extreme vertices mixture design. Seven formulations of MBB pasta were evaluated for colour, protein content, dietary fibre, cooking quality and textural properties. All MBB pasta formulations had significantly higher protein content and dietary fibre than semolina pasta. Higher EWP content increased optimum cooking time, firmness, tensile strength and elonga

The design and development of SMAW electrode coating fluxes, along with their thermal property characterization, are discussed. Using an extreme vertices design approach, 27 flux mixture combinations have been prepared. The TGA-DSC and hot disk analysis are done to quantify the thermal response of the fluxes. Results show that increase in CaF2 and SiO2 reduces weight loss. Increase in CaO increases weight loss, whereas increase in BaO shows minimal effect on weight loss. Enthalpy change of flux was found to influence mainly with CaF2 and CaO. Thermally stable flux has lower volatile compounds

Purpose Urban flooding in developing countries of the Global South is growing due to extreme rainfall and sea-level rise induced by climate change, as well as the proliferation of impervious, built-up areas resulting from unplanned urbanisation and development. ABSTRACTTo control mango postharvest deterioration, an edible coating based on pectin, glycerol, and oregano essential oil (OEO) was developed using a three‐step process involving optimization, validation, and comparison with a commercial fungicide. An extreme vertices mixture design approach was initially used to optimize the pectin, glycerol, and OEO concentrations in the coating formulation. We evaluated the impact of the coating components on the respiration rate, quality parameters, and anthracnose disease of mangoes.
