Aims: To study the prevalence and pathology associated with septic eye affections in dogs of Jabalpur region. Place and Duration of Study: Veterinary Clinical Complex (VCC), College of Veterinary Science and A.H., Jabalpur and in private pet clinics of Jabalpur for period of seven months spanning from April 2024 to October 2024. Methodology: A total of 992 dogs were screened for eye affections. Amongst these, clinically 153 dogs had various eye affections and were included in the study. Eye swabs were collected aseptically from dogs suspected of having eye infections for bacterial isolation, identification and antibiotic sensitivity test (AST). Bacterial cultures were also subjected for molecular confirmation of the bacterial species. Results: Septic eye affections were observed in 70 dogs, with a prevalence of 45.75%. Male dogs (71.43%) and young dogs (up to 3 years) (44.28%) were more prone, with the Labrador Retriever breed most commonly affected, followed by non-descript breeds. A significant decrease in hemoglobin, packed cell volume, total erythrocyte count, monocytes and platelets was noted. The highest frequency of septic eye affections was recorded as conjunctivitis (35.71%). The most commonly isolated bacteria from septic eye affections were Staphylococcus spp. (57.69%), followed by Escherichia coli (11.53%). All Staphylococcus spp. and E. coli isolates tested positive for the genus-specific 16SrRNA gene using species-specific primers in PCR. Gentamicin, Chloramphenicol Amikacin and Erythromycin exhibited the highest sensitivity against all gram-positive bacteria, whereas Amoxiclav, Tetracycline, and Norfloxacin showed the highest sensitivity against all gram-negative bacteria. Conclusion: Conjunctivitis (35.71%) was found to be the most common septic eye affection and Staphylococcus spp. was highest among all the bacteria isolated from septic eye affections.

Abstract:
Vitreoretinal affections are a major cause of visual impairment across many animal species. In most cases, opaque ocular media secondary to the disease obstructs a detailed examination of the eye, which is essential for timely treatment. B-mode ultrasonography plays a critical role in the accurate diagnosis of various pathologies in the posterior segment of the eye under these conditions. In this study, canine ocular ultrasonography and ocular biometrical evaluation of healthy eyes and eyes with vitreoretinal affections were compared. There was a significant increase in axial length, anterior chamber depth and vitreous chamber depth in vitreoretinal affections in the study as compared to healthy eyes. Various affections like retinal detachment, vitreous haemorrhage, posterior vitreous detachment, retinal oedema, choroidal retinal detachment with posterior scleritis and optic disc cupping were observed in the study. B-mode ultrasonography proved to be an invaluable tool in diagnosing and managing vitreoretinal diseases, helping in preventing severe visual impairment.

Abstract:
A case of Bonnet syndrome associated with blindness due to bilateral eye disease and a posterior parasagittal meningioma is reported. It is assumed that visual afferent deprivation alone is not enough to produce the syndrome and that, in most instances, a 'cerebral factor' must be operative if hallucinoses are to occur. The distinction between hallucinosis and hallucinations is favored and a common neural circuit for the mediation of hallucinotic imageries in general is suggested. One should not immediately put the blame on obvious eye or visual pathways affections when facing cases of Bonnet syndrome, as they are not likely to explain the complex array of images perceived by any given patient. On the contrary, the possibility of a clinically covert intracranial disease should be always raised and intensively looked for.

Abstract:
This study adopted Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) to investigate the influences of multimedia presentations on achievements of science learning and the correlations between eye-movement models under distinct multimedia combinations and learner-controlled modes. Three units from the Science Education Website set by the Ministry of Education (Tainan) to assist student learning were employed: Air and Combustion”, “Heat Effects toward Substances”, and “Healthy Diet.” This multifunctional website offers teaching resources, interesting experiments, inquiry experiments, virtual animations, multi-assessments, and supplementary materials, which are highly interactive and simulative. Six classes of fifth graders (n=192) participated in this study. Our findings showed that the combination of multimedia elements apparently influenced students' performance; the “animation + narration” group performed evidently better than the “animation + subtitles” group. When the animated subject matters were in small segments under the Segmentation Principle, multimedia presentations still brought affections to learning achievement, suggesting that the modality effect on students' learning exists constantly. Regarding the eye-movement models, this study focused mainly on discussing the “active-control mode” and “multimedia combination forms”. These eye movement data supplemented the evidences gained to identify the relevant results. In conclusion, inappropriate multimedia combinations may interfere with learning. More functions and information inputs do not guarantee better learning effects.

Abstract:
Oxidative damage is a biochemical event currently incriminated in the occurrence of many disorders. The range of affections varies, from psychiatric illnesses, like depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimers disease, for instance, to somatic disorders such as carcinogenesis or diabetes. Moreover, ophthalmological pathology is also affected in their development by the oxidative stress factor. In the present study, we focused on following the changes which occur in the serum of rats exposed to environmental stress conditions (swimming and treadmill exercises) by determinations of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX) specific activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration. There are important biomarkers of oxidative stress, suspected to play a relevant role in the pathology of dry eye syndrome. Our preliminary oxidative stress analysis of the serum, sampled from animals exposed to physical stress in attempt to induce dry eye syndrome pathology, showed that the levels of SOD and GPX enzymes were higher as compared to controls. Also, MDA concentration was decreased with a significant value attributed to the swimmer rats compared to controls.

Abstract:
Ayurveda can serve in many disease conditions, whereas conventional systems face several limitations. Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is among such conditions, where effective management is becoming a challenge. Diabetic Retinopathy leads to visual disability and is one of the major complications of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Currently available conventional treatments for DR have certain limitations; considering this fact, options from alternative resources are being searched. In Ayurveda, retinal diseases can be included in Drishtigata roga (~eye sight disorder) and DR can be correlated with Timir (~a class of morbid affections of the coats of the eye), as pathology of Timir is secondary to systemic Dosha Dushti (~vitiation of body humor) and DR can be considered as Pramehajanya Timir. A male patient of 61 years visited the Netra (ophthalmic) OPD complaining of defective distant and near vision for two months. Based upon the history of diabetes and clinical signs and symptoms, he was diagnosed with Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) in both eyes. The indirect ophthalmoscopy investigation was used to confirm the diagnosis. Nimi Nirdishta yoga which contains Triphala, Yashtimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra Linn.), and Ghrita was administered for one month daily at night with honey. At the end of one month, there was improvement noted in distant vision without glasses from 6/18 to 6/12 in the right eye and 6/9 to 6/6p in the left eye while near vision from N/8 to N/6 in both eyes with glasses. Indirect ophthalmoscopy revealed a reduction in exudates and hemorrhages. The observations reveal that Ayurvedic approaches are helpful in managing Diabetic Retinopathy.

Abstract:
Neonatal ophthalmic screening should lead to early diagnosis of ocular abnormalities to reduce long-term visual impairment in selected diseases. If a treatable pathology is diagnosed within a few days after the birth, adequate therapy may be indicated to facilitate the best possible conditions for further development of visual functions. Traditional neonatal ophthalmic screening uses the red reflex test (RRT). It tests the transmittance of the light through optical media towards the retina and the general disposition of the central part of the retina. However, RRT has weaknesses, especially in posterior segment affections. Wide-field digital imaging techniques have shown promising results in detecting anterior and posterior segment pathologies. Particular attention should be paid to telemedicine and artificial intelligence. These methods can improve the specificity and sensitivity of neonatal eye screening. Both are already highly advanced in diagnosing and monitoring of retinopathy of prematurity.

Abstract:
Abstract Coptic pharmacological texts offer a multitude of medical prescriptions concerning various afflictions, such as eye or skin irritations, affections of the viscera, or even psychological complaints. The content of these texts is medical, and in most cases bereft of any magical or religious ideas. They usually compile prescriptions according to symptoms and/or afflictions, without any further organising principle. Only a handful of texts are grouped according to the illness or to the medicinal plants used. Almost every prescription follows a pattern, with four formal elements: 1) the medical indication (or purpose), 2) the (basic) ingredients, 3) the procedure and application, and 4) the effects and/or the effectiveness of a remedy, or further information. In this article, I give an overview of the entire corpus of Coptic medical prescriptions, explore the four main elements, and especially the discussions of efficacy. I also examine the material in light of placebo research, to see whether something like a placebo effect may have influenced how the pharmacological texts were formulated.

Abstract:
Abstract: This article investigates early American women's acrostic poetry, especially as it was written and exchanged in same-sex friendships and romantic relationships. It begins with a discussion of male poets' deployment of the print acrostic in the service of courtship, considering how such poems expose women to the public eye. Women's manuscript acrostics, on the other hand, refuse the isolation of the female subject in the heterosexual pair, instead creating community in their composition and circulation practices. By way of example, the article turns to acrostic poetry written and received by Charity Bryant, a young teacher from New England whose affections for other women prompted the exchange of manuscript acrostics that fit same-sex love into the larger framework of gendered respectability and morality. Taken together, these poems demonstrate the adaptation of women's manuscript practices to relationships that included but went well beyond the rhetoric of romantic friendship. In this exchange, the article argues, acrostics normalize same-sex relationships, making them legible and preserving them for posterity.

Abstract:
Agro pesticides are increasingly used worldwide to increase crop production. However, health hazards resulting from human exposure to these chemicals, especially from agricultural areas of developing countries have been a growing concern. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of occupational exposure to agro pesticides on the health of farmers in the Buea subdivision, which is one of the major agrarian areas in Cameroon. The study was transversal and involved 90 participants including 58 farmers using pesticides and a reference population of 32 men not involved in occupational use of agro pesticides. The participants were interviewed on agro pesticide use and their health status. Thereafter, blood samples were collected from the participants and used for the assessment of biochemical markers of the liver (alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase) and the kidney (creatinine and uric acid) function. Results revealed that farmers frequently used insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides in their farming activities. Farmers reported several acute health symptoms related to pesticides use with the common ones being skin rash, eye irritation, and face burn. When compared to the reference population, the farmers showed significantly elevated (p&lt;0.01) alanine aminotransferase activity. However, other parameters investigated were not affected significantly. These results suggested that farmers were exposed to 3 different classes of agro pesticides, which induced eye and skin affections. Pesticides exposure resulted in alterations of the liver function hence the increased serum alanine aminotransferase activity. Therefore, there is a need to sensitize the farmers on toxicity and liver alteration potential of agro pesticides and the importance of appropriate protective equipment that may minimize exposure.

Abstract:
As a result of too long screen time, it could make students sluggish, obesity and various non-communicable diseases, as well as risks related to eye health and social emotional development. This study aimed to systematically identify the impact of the screen time on students’ health in online learning. The research used qualitative research methods through a phenomenological approach. Data collected with focus group discussions (FGD) and in-depth interviews. FGD were conducted on 10 students. In-depth interviews were carried out on ten key informants, students in grades III to VI that constantly utilize cellphones, five ordinary informants, which were students’ parents. The results showed that the impact of screen time on students in physical healths are ocular fatigue, itchy, sore and stiffed hands while using or holding the gadget screen for too long, but from a social perspective, it is not so influential because students tend to prefer playing with school friends compared to playing gadgets at home. In terms of implications for student behavior, there are some affections on their health, as if their irregular sleep time at night due to watching shows or movies that are considered fun, but in the term of the affective health, it has no significant effect by observing their actions are still as usual. Also, there are no showed frontal actions or habits that breaking the norm, and they can still enjoy playing time with their friends. Based on the results of the research obtained, it concluded that the implications of screen time on students’ health can be reduced or prevented by leading the student’s learning to be more active in field activities like playing with their friends, so the tendency to play on cellphones can be reduced and bring over to prevent the bad affections of screen time on students’ health in SD 59 Siguntu. Therefore, the growth and development of the students can be optimized without any disturbances that must be faced during their development.

Abstract:
Dishes for sweets made of ceramic and varnished wood, which appeared in old Japan, as well as the sweets themselves, were improved over time. Artisans created a number of objects, different in style and material, of cultural value. In a Japanese feast, the skillful presentation of artistically made dishes with the sweets they contain turns everyday life into a celebration. Aesthetic pleasure from tasting sweets is achieved, including pleasing to the eye, smooth tea utensils without patterns, with natural flowing glaze or decorated with benevolent and thematic designs, often corresponding, like the sweets themselves, to the seasons. Japanese sweetware is recognized as an artifact of high everyday culture and reflects the ethnic traditions, affections and preferences of the people. The relevance of the topic is determined by turning to objects for serving sweets made of porcelain, ceramics, wood, and also using the cloisonn&eacute; enamel technique. Unlike utensils for the tea ceremony, they have been practically not studied in Russian art history. The significance of the stated topic is dictated by the high interest not only in the classic tea ceremony, but also in everyday tea drinking, an important component of which is dishes and traditional sweets. The practical meaning of the work is connected with the opportunity, on the other hand, to study the morals, customs, and culture of Japan, which contributes to the popularization of factual material and expands cultural horizons. Methods of historicism, comparative analytical, typological were used.

Abstract:
Pre-pubic tendon rupture is an often affection in mares, rarer in ewes and cows because of an additional connection of the pre-pubic tendon found in these species. Etiology of this affection is not completed elucidated, but it is associated with many gestation affections. Treatment is usually unsatisfactory. This report aims to describe principle clinical and anatomopathologyc findings in an ewe at the fifth month of gestation with pre-pubic tendon rupture. Bad general clinical status led to euthanasia. Clinical and anatomopathological findings are consistent with pre-pubic tendon rupture. The report of this case works as an alert to the possibility of the occurrence of this affection in ewes and demonstrate a necessity to the parturition assistance of these animals.

Abstract:
In a large scale screen for genetic defects in zebrafish embryogenesis we identified 49 mutations affecting development of the retina. Based on analysis of living embryos as well as histological sections, we grouped the isolated mutations into six phenotypic categories. (1) Mutations in three loci result in a loss of wild-type laminar pattern of the neural retina. (2) Defects in four loci lead to an abnormal specification of the eye anlagen. Only one eye frequently forms in this class of mutants. (3) Seven loci predominantly affect development of the outer retinal layers. Mutants in this category display cell loss mainly in the photoreceptor cell layer. (4) Nine mutations cause retardation of eye growth without any other obvious abnormalities in the retina. (5) A group of twelve mutations is characterized by nonspecific retinal degeneration. (6) Four mutations display retinal degeneration associated with a pigmentation defect. Finally, two mutations, one with absence of the ventral retina and one with an eye-specific pigmentation defect, are not classified in any of the above groups. The identified mutations affect numerous aspects of eye development, including: specification of the eye anlage, growth rate of the optic cup, establishment of retinal stratification, specification or differentiation of retinal neurons and formation of the dorsoventral axis in the developing eye.

Abstract:
Introduction: Dry eye symptoms are the common ocular complaints that are found at the ophthalmologic outpatient services. This research’s main purposes were to study the risk factors associated with dry eye symptoms and to evaluate the severity of dry eye among Visual Display Terminal (VDT) users. Methods: This study was a descriptive observational study involving 104 VDT users in 3 branches of the Social Security Offices and the Bureau of Labor Protection and Welfare in Samutprakarn province, Thailand. The study instruments used were: (1) questionnaires associated with VDT use and dry eye symptoms that were evaluated by using the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) and (2) Lux meter for desk-brightness and the angle of gaze measurement during VDT use. Data were analyzed using a Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. Results: The results found that VDT users had severe dry eye symptoms, accounting for 51.9%, and experienced moderate and mild dry eye symptoms in the same number, which was 24.0%. In addition, dry eye symptoms were related to VDT use for 5-7 hours/day with statistically significant value. Other VDT use factors, including the desk-brightness or the angle of gaze during VDT use, were related to severe dry eye symptoms with no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: Based on the findings, VDT users should use VDT no more than 5 hours/day in order to reduce VDT-related dry eye symptoms. these factors were not statistically significant for the occurrence of severe dry eye symptoms.

Abstract:
BackgroundA propensity to attend to other people's emotions is a necessary condition for human empathy.AimsTo test our hypothesis that psychopathic disorder begins as a failure to attend to the eyes of attachment figures, using a ‘love’ scenario in young children.MethodChildren with oppositional defiant disorder, assessed for callous–unemotional traits, and a control group were observed in a love interaction with mothers. Eye contact and affection were measured for each dyad.ResultsThere was no group difference in affection and eye contact expressed by the mothers. Compared with controls, children with oppositional defiant disorder expressed lower levels of affection back towards their mothers; those with high levels of callous–unemotional traits showed significantly lower levels of affection than the children lacking these traits. As predicted, the former group showed low levels of eye contact toward their mothers. Low eye contact was not correlated with maternal coercive parenting or feelings toward the child, but was correlated with psychopathic fearlessness in their fathers.ConclusionsImpairments in eye contact are characteristic of children with callous–unemotional traits, and these impairments are independent of maternal behaviour.

Abstract:
Three years ago, our patient, at that time a 16-month-old boy, was discovered to have bilateral kidney lesions with a giant tumor in the right kidney. Chemotherapy and bilateral nephron-sparing surgery (NSS) for Wilms tumor with nephroblastomatosis was carried out. The patient also had eye affection, including glaucoma, eye enlargement, megalocornea, severe corneal swelling and opacity, complete aniridia, and nystagmus. The diagnosis of WAGR syndrome was suspected. De novo complex chromosomal rearrangement with balanced translocation t(10,11)(p15;p13) and a pericentric inversion inv(11)(p13q12), accompanied by two adjacent 11p14.1p13 and 11p13p12 deletions, were identified. Deletions are raised through the complex molecular mechanism of two subsequent rearrangements affecting chromosomes 11 and 10. WAGR syndrome diagnosis was clinically and molecularly confirmed, highlighting the necessity of comprehensive genetic testing in patients with congenital aniridia and/or WAGR syndrome.

Abstract:
Abstract IL-22 has opposing effects in different tissues, from pro-inflammatory (skin, joints) to protective (liver, intestine) but little is known about its effects on neuronal tissue. We examined this using the induced models of experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). During EAU, IL-22 was produced by CD4+ eye-infiltrating cells, most of which co-produced IL-17. IL-22-/- mice immunized for EAU or for EAE had exacerbated disease, as did wild type mice treated with anti-IL-22 systemically or intraocularly during the expression phase of EAU. Retinal glial Müller cells in uveitic eyes had upregulated IL-22rα1 expression. Furthermore, IL-22 upregulated IL-22rα1 on Müller cells in culture and enhanced their ability to suppress effector T cells. Finally, IL-22 injected concurrently with IL-1β into the eye inhibited IL-1-induced expression of multiple proinflammatory and proapoptotic genes in retinal tissue. Our results suggest that IL-22 can function locally within the CNS to ameliorate inflammatory damage and provide neuroprotection by affecting multiple molecular and cellular pathways.

Abstract:
We have isolated mutants in the zebrafish Danio rerio that have defects in axonal connectivity between the retina and tectum. 5-day-old fish larvae were screened by labeling retinal ganglion cells with DiI and DiO and observing their axonal projections to and on the tectum. 82 mutations, representing 13 complementation groups and 6 single allele loci, were found that have defects in retinal ganglion cell axon pathfinding to the tectum. These pathfinding genes fall into five classes, based on the location of pathfinding errors between eye and tectum. In Class I mutant larvae (belladonna, detour, you-too, iguana, umleitung, blowout) axons grow directly to the ipsilateral tectal lobe after leaving the eye. Class II mutant larvae (chameleon, bashful) have ipsilaterally projecting axons and, in addition, pathfinding mistakes are seen within the eye. In Class III mutant larvae (esrom, tilsit, tofu) fewer axons than normal cross the midline, but some axons do reach the contralateral tectal lobe. Class IV mutant larvae (boxer, dackel, pinscher) have defects in axon sorting after the midline and retinal axons occasionally make further pathfinding errors upon reaching the contralateral tectal lobe. Finally, Class V mutant larvae (bashful, grumpy, sleepy, cyclops, astray) have anterior-posterior axon trajectory defects at or after the midline. The analysis of these mutants supports several conclusions about the mechanisms of retinal axon pathfinding from eye to tectum. A series of sequential cues seems to guide retinal axons to the contralateral tectal lobe. Pre-existing axon tracts seem not to be necessary to guide axons across the midline. The midline itself seems to play a central role in guiding retinal axons. Axons in nearby regions of the brain seem to use different cues to cross the ventral midline. Mutant effects are not all-or-none, as misrouted axons may reach their target, and if they do, they project normally on the tectum. The retinotectal pathfinding mutants reveal important choice points encountered by neuronal growth cones as they navigate between eye and tectum.

Abstract:
558 Background: In BOLERO-2, adding everolimus (EVE) to exemestane (EXE) more than doubled progression-free survival without affecting quality of life vs EXE alone in postmenopausal women with hormone-receptor–positive advanced breast cancer who had recurrence or progression on/after nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor therapy. Although mTOR inhibitors are generally well tolerated, stomatitis is one of their most clinically relevant and potentially dose-limiting toxicities (Sonis Cancer2010). The incidence, grade, and clinical course of stomatitis among patients (pts) participating in the BOLERO-2 study are described. Methods: Pts were randomized 2:1 to receive EVE+EXE or placebo (PBO)+EXE. Stomatitis incidence, severity, consequent dose interruptions/adjustments, study drug discontinuations, and time to resolution were recorded. Results: The median duration of EVE+EXE treatment exposure was 30 wk (range, 1-123 wk). Stomatitis (any grade) occurred more frequently with EVE+EXE than with PBO+EXE (59% vs 12%, respectively). Grade 3 stomatitis occurred in 8% vs 1% of pts receiving EVE+EXE vs PBO+EXE, respectively; no grade 4 was reported. Onset of grade ≥2 stomatitis after treatment initiation was earlier in the EVE+EXE arm vs the PBO+EXE arm: median time was 15d vs 24d, respectively. In the EVE+EXE arm, 97% of pts with grade 3 stomatitis (n=38) improved to ≤1 after a median of 13 d. Complete resolution was observed in 82% of these pts after a median of 38 d. In the PBO+EXE arm, all pts with grade 3 stomatitis (n=2) improved to ≤1 after a median of 18 d. Complete resolution was observed after a median of 29 d. Overall, 24% of pts in the EVE+EXE arm required dose interruptions/adjustments vs 1% of pts in the PBO+EXE arm, and 3% of pts (n=13) discontinued EVE+EXE vs &lt;1% of pts (n=1) discontinuing PBO+EXE, all related to stomatitis. Conclusions: The BOLERO-2 data foster a new era of combining targeted and endocrine therapies. In the study, treatment-emergent stomatitis was of mild to moderate intensity, occurred shortly after treatment initiation, and was generally reversible. Most incidents were successfully managed with palliative interventions and temporary dose modifications. Oral hygiene and other preventive measures are recommended. Abstract:
Drosophila melanogaster, the fruit fly, is an excellent organism for genetics studies because it has a short life span, produces large numbers of offspring, and has many types of hereditary variations that can be observed with low-power magnification. Mendelian traits studied were bar eye (B), and white eye (w1). A cross (bar × white) and its reciprocal cross (white × bar), the corresponding F1 and F2 generations were created according to the mating maps. The goodness of fit test for the observed data against the theoretical genotypic ratios was analyzed using χ2 statistical test. The results showed that the observed ratios for male and female in both crosses didn’t fit the theoretical genotypic ratios since the χ2 values were much greater than the critical χ2 value (7.82) at 5% significant level. The causes of the disagreement could be the gene interaction and the role of modifier genes. For Bar gene, the penetrance was complete in male for both crosses. This was because of the hemizygote status of the gene. However, the incomplete penetrance and varied expressivities were observed in female for both crosses. In bar × white, when Bar was in homozygotic status, the penetrance was 54.7% under red eye (wild type) allele and 0.0% under white eye allele. In the heterozygotic status, the different expressivities were 0.4% of round eye, 27.7% of dent eye, and 17.2% of oval eye with red eye allele. There was no expressivity observed with white allele. In white × bar, the Bar gene in homozygotic status demonstrated 2.6% and 1.0% penetrance under the background of red eye allele and white allele in female. The various expressivities displayed 48.5% of round eye, 39.3% of dent eye, and 9.6% of oval eye with red eye allele, whereas 78.4% of round eye, 16.6% of dent eye, and 4.0% of oval eye with white allele, respectively. In male, the Bar gene demonstrated a 100% penetrance despite the background in both crosses. A genetic study is still an effective way to investigate the gene interaction.

<strong>ABSTRACT</strong> <strong>Background: </strong>The etiology of sleep disruption in intensive care unit is poorly known and often ignored complication. It is caused by the environmental factors especially pain, noise, diagnostic testing and human interventions that cause sleep disruption. Light, medications and activities related to patient care interfere with patient&rsquo;s ability to have good sleep. There are multi-factorial environmental etiologies for disruption of sleep in ICU. <strong>Objective: </strong>The objective of this study was to evaluate the factors disturbing the sleep quality in intensive care unit (ICU) admitted patients. <strong>Methodology: </strong>A cross sectional study was designed involving 150 patients admitted in intensive care unit and high dependency unit of Gulab Devi Chest Hospital. The duration of study was from September 2015 to March 2016. The questionnaire was made and filled with the help of patients. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 16.00. <strong>Results: </strong>Mean age of patients was 50.46+10.96 with maximum age of 65 and minimum age of 30 years. There was 53.33% male patients and 46.67% females participating in this study. The sleep quality was significantly poor in ICU than at home. After analysis, 54.67% patients were with poor quality of sleep due to pain and 48.67% were due to noise of environmental stimuli. The other factors were alarms, light and loud talking. <strong>Conclusion: </strong>Current study shows that reduced sleep quality is a common problem in ICU with multi-factorial etiologies. Patient reported the poor sleep quality in ICU due to environmental issues that are potentially modifiable.

Introduction: One of the eye diseases experienced by children, adults, and the elderly is Myopia. Myopia is a refractive error in the eye where the resulting image point falls in front of the retina. Time spent on near vision work and lack of outdoor activities are environmental factors of great concern .The purpose of this scoping review is to find out how work activities affect the prevalence of myopia. The method in this study uses the literature study method. The data was carried out by searching the Science Direct database, the Oxford Journal and Google Scholar. The result of this scoping review is that myopia is caused by using computers at a young age and sitting too much to read indoors which causes myopia and efforts to prevent myopia are by limiting the use of computer screens and doing outdoor activities.

Abstract:
Inherited metabolic disorders are a large group of rare disorders affecting normal biochemical pathways. Many metabolic disorders can present with symptoms affecting the eye, and eye disorders can evolve later in the natural history of an already diagnosed metabolic disorder. The ophthalmic involvement can be very varied affecting any part of the eye, including abnormalities of cornea, lens dislocation and cataracts, retina and the distal optic pathway, and extraocular muscles. Awareness of inherited metabolic disorders is important to facilitate early diagnosis and in some cases instigate early treatment if a patient presents with eye involvement suggestive of a metabolic disorder. Ophthalmological interventions are also an important component of the multisystem holistic approach to treating patients with metabolic disorders.

Abstract:
Background: Patients with Sjögren’s syndrome and polyneuropathy more frequently develop cranial nerve affection when compared to patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). We therefore aimed to analyze trigeminal corneal nerve fibre characteristics in both patient groups. Methods: A total of 26 patients with Sjögren’s syndrome associated neuropathy and 29 patients with CIDP were recruited at our university hospital and compared to 6 healthy controls. Dry eye symptoms and signs were assessed via clinical examination and the Ocular Disease Surface Index questionnaire. Trigeminal corneal nerve fibres were analyzed via corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) as a non-invasive in vivo microscopy. Results: CCM revealed significantly reduced corneal nerve fibre density and corneal nerve fibre main branch density in the Neuro-Sjögren group when compared with healthy controls. There were no significant group differences between the Neuro-Sjögren and the CIDP group for any of the microscopic parameters. Dry eye assessment showed similarly reduced scores for both patient groups, while healthy controls showed better results for objective dry eye signs. There was no correlation between microscopic parameters of the corneal confocal microscopy and parameters of dry eye assessment. Conclusions: Our data revealed trigeminal corneal nerve affection in patients with neuropathy associated with Sjögren’s syndrome and patients with CIDP detected by CCM. No difference was found between both neuropathy groups indicating that CCM is not able to distinguish between both entities.
