Abstract:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy have been recognized as the gold standard treatments used for people with binge eating disorder (BED). However, these treatments are lengthy - usually about 22 sessions and usually exclude the goal of weight loss despite the fact that the majority of binge eaters struggle with weight management. Because Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based treatment found to an effective and efficient treatment for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and trauma is prevalent in the BED population, a newly developed EMDR p

The purpose of this study was to develop a theory grounded in the health experiences of rural adolescents. By exploring the embodied experiences within a unique population of rural Iowan adolescents, many who are overweight/obese and/or of Hispanic descent, the developed theory was also used to inform a tailored health intervention for middle school students. The review of the literature revealed that the study of adolescent physical activity and body image concerns is largely measurement driven, and often explored from a

People form impressions quickly and easily using stereotypical beliefs as well as information the social context provides. These impressions inform beliefs, and guide emotional reactions and behavioural responses to others. Research has examined the nature of beliefs based on the amount and type of food others consume, and has shown that people more favourably judge others who eat low fat foods in small amounts. Research in an independent tradition has examined beliefs based on physical activity levels, and shown that people more favourably judge exercisers. Both the diet- and exercise-based l

This thesis examines the relationship between the fiction of James Joyce and the theological practices outlined by Ignatius of Loyola. By deliberately foregoing claims of direct or simple influence, the thesis illustrates the way in which Loyola's concepts of belief, irony, discernment, and indifference illuminate the operations of the Joycean text. These operations in both Loyola and Joyce are themselves best explicated through the use of Kleinian psychoanalytic theory. Klein and her followers analyze dynamics of belief, representation, and meaning as products of frustration. Loyola and Joyce

Abstract:
Physical inactivity and disconnection from natural environments threatens human health. However, research has demonstrated that natural environments potentially support health-enhancing physical activity which could confer greater physical and mental health benefits than physical activity in other types of environment. This thesis approached the study of physical activity in natural environments through three related pieces of research. Firstly, an experimental study was carried out to explore how the presence of litter in beach environments affected psychophysiological responses to exercise.

Background: Edge Light Pupil Cycle Time (ELPCT) is a light reflex of the eye, which is controlled via the automatic nervous system. Studies have shown ELPCT to be a measurable constant, unaffected by visual acuity, refractive error, eye colour, pupil size or gender. Recent studies have shown that high-velocity manipulation of the upper cervical spine causes an immediate decrease in ELPCT on the same side as the manipulation. This change is presumed to me mediated in part by alterations in the autonomic tone following mauipulative intervention, therefore suggesting that unilateral manipulation

Six different video speeds were tested using a video-based decision-making task, to gain a thorough understanding of the effects of video speed on different levels of expertise in Australian football, particularly, the mechanisms which drive expert performance. The significant difference in performance between elite and sub-elite at the 1.5 speed indicated this to be a potential training speed for elite athletes.

Subsequently, this insufficient transfer of knowledge could be limiting potential improvements in athlete performance. Technique analysis
