Lima, Marli Maria, Pedro Jurberg, and Josimar Ribeiro de Almeida. "Behavior of triatomines (Hemiptera, Reduviidae) vectors of Chagas' disease. II. Influence of feeding, lighting and time of day on the number of mating, mating speed and duration of copulation of Panstrongylus megistus (Burm, 1835) under laboratory conditions." Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz 81, no. 4 (December 1986): 381–88. http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/s0074-02761986000400004.

Abstract:
To determine in influence of feeding, lighting and time of day on the copulating behavior of Panstrongylus megistus, 480 insect pairs were divided into four groups of 120 each and tested in the following respective situations: without food deprivation (F.D.), with five days of F.D., with ten days of F.D., and with 20 days of F. D. The tests were performed between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with light (700-1400 lux) and in the dark (1.4-2.8 lux) and behavior was recorded by the time sampling technique. Mating spped (MS) and duration of copulation (DC) were also calculated for each situation. The maximum frequency of copulation was observed after five days of F.D., at night, in the dark (n = 16), and the minimum was observed for recently-fed pairs, at night, with light (n = 4). Males approached females more often than females approached males. MS was lowest in pairs with twenty days of F.D., at night, with light (X = 23.0 ± 16.0 minutes), and highest in recently-fed pairs, during the day, with light (X = 2.9 ± 2.5 minutes). DC was shortest in recently-fed insects, during the day, in the dark (X = 23.5 ± 6.7 minutes), and longest in recently-fed animals, at night, in the dark (X = 38.3 ± 6.9 minutes).

Abstract:
The maximum entropy principle has been earlier used to derive the Bose Einstein(B.E.), Fermi Dirac(F.D.) & Intermediate Statistics(I.S.) distribution of statistical mechanics. The central idea of these distributions is to predict the distribution of the microstates, which are the particle of the system, on the basis of the knowledge of some macroscopic data. The latter information is specified in the form of some simple moment constraints. One distribution differs from the other in the way in which the constraints are specified. In the present paper, we have derived some new distributions similar to B.E., F.D. distributions of statistical mechanics by using maximum entropy principle. Some proofs of B.E. & F.D. distributions are shown, and at the end some new results are discussed.

A cell regulates the number, size, and kind of each organelle it possesses in response to its particular role in an environment or tissue. Yet we still know little about how the molecular signaling networks within each cell perform such regulation. In this issue, Saleem et al. (Saleem, R.A., B. Knoblach, F.D. Mast, J.J. Smith, J. Full text
Abstract:
One of the most impressive finds in Novogrudok, Belarus, is the Saint Hedwig beaker, found in 1960 in building № 10 on the Small Castle, which is reliably (stratigraphically and by finds) dated to the second half of the 12th century. This is a beaker made of thick glass; wheel-engraving and cutting techniques were used in its ornamentation. On the walls of the beaker are images of a lion, a griffin, a stylized tree of life and two half-palmettes are carved. St. Hedwig beakers were very expensive objects that were made to order and used for diplomatic gifts, at coronations, and served as tabernacles or reliquaries. At the moment, 25 such beakers are known, 14 complete and 11 in fragments. Most of them come from the territory that was part of the Holy Roman Empire, and from Poland. Outside these territories, only 2 finds were found, one of which is from Novogrudok. According to the new hypothesis of T.S. Bubenko and A.A. Metelskii, the area on the Small Castle where this St. Hedwig beaker was discovered, was not a rich quarter of a town – as F.D. Gurevich believed – but a citadel where the prince lived. This hypothesis allows us to reinterpret the unique collection of Byzantine and Oriental glass, which includes the St. Hedwig beaker, and other imported items, not as the property of wealthy goldsmiths (according to F.D. Gurevich), but as princely treasures. Thus, the St. Hedwig beaker from Novogrudok fits into a number of beakers discovered during excavations of European palaces, castles and citadels, and once again confirms their interpretation as unique precious vessels that only rulers and aristocratic families possessed.

Abstract:
Newman’s correspondence is a rich harvest for understanding his thought, and the people with whom he corresponded were a fascinating group of individuals, many being influential thinkers in their own right. Among the latter was Richard Holt Hutton (1826–1897), journalist, critic, theologian, teacher and biographer. Son and grandson of Unitarian ministers, he eventually converted to an evangelical form of the Church of England, under the influence of F.W. Robertson and F.D. Maurice, having come to a deep belief in the Incarnation. With the previous experience as joint editor of The National Review and assistant editor of The Economist. Hutton was invited early in 1861 by Meredith Townsend, the new owner of The Spectator, a weekly newspaper with liberal leanings, to become joint editor and part proprietor. The Spectator became the forum in which Hutton was able to express his theological and literary-critical views for the remainder of his life. As this paper will show, the correspondence with Newman was another important means for Hutton to communicate his ideas, and, in conjunction with his critique of Newman he penned in other pieces, gives insight into the mind of an important Victorian, but also a new perspective from which to view Newman’s thought on such matters as revelation, the rôle of reason in coming to faith, and an infallible teaching authority.

Abstract:
Based on analysis of F.D. Mordukhai-Boltovskoy’s publications, this paper examines the history of studies of the impact of thermal and nuclear power plants, which were originally performed under the classical “Haeckelian” ecological paradigm: the external effect of technogenic factors on aquatic ecosystems and biota. The decline in interest in the problem was not associated with a decrease in the technogenic impact or changes in the energy industry. However, the paradigm itself is changing in association with the emergence of the concept of a technoecosystem. The cooling ponds of thermal power plants (TPPs) and nuclear power plants (NPPs) can be used as models of climate change, particularly climate warming. The materials obtained in studies of the effects of technogenic temperature rise are still underused by hydrobiologists studying climate change and its potential consequences.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the political views of F.D. Samarin, his conception of the political system in Russia before 1905, constitutional reforms of 1905–1906 and Stolypin’s reforms. The author demonstrates how Samarin tried to adopt the Slavophile doctrine to the situation of the beginning of the 20th century. At that he had to carry on polemics both with the opponents of the Slavophilism and its supporters. On the one hand, this fact stresses Slavophilism diversity and its inner heterogeneity. On the other hand, it shows the nature of the Slavophile doctrine itself that resembled more the historiographic approach to researching the past than a well-structured political conception. Giving meaningful political content to Slavophile ideas depended fully on every single representative of the Slavophile intellectual heritage.

Abstract:
The sociology of education in Britain is generally regarded as having gone through something of a paradigm shift in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A supposed “new direction” in the sociology of education was seen to emerge from the work of Basil Bernstein and Michael F.D. Young and their colleagues and students at the Institute of Education in London. This was symbolized in the sub-title of the first major publication by this group — Knowledge and Control: New Directions for the Sociology of Education (Young 1971a). Insofar as there was anything that had a coherent claim to be termed a “new sociology of education” (Gorbutt 1972), its approach was one which sought to make problematic that which had hitherto been taken for granted in education (Young, 1971b).

The article presents a transcription of N.V. Kotrelev’s report read in 2016 and dedicated to archival materials revealing the fate of Vyach. Ivanov's first wife, Darya Mikhailovna, and their daughter Alexandra, years after the church dissolution of their marriage in 1896. Over the years, their daughter developed a mental illness. Ivanov was very distressed by descriptions of the course of the disease and accused himself of “murder” of his daughter. In an attempt to help his first wife, who lost her income, Vyach. Ivanov applied for a subsidy and organizational support to the “Literary Fund” and in a letter addressed to the chairman of the fund (F.D. Batyushkov) described in detail the tragic situation. The materials from the archives of the Literary Fund (Manuscript Department of IWL RAS), presented in the appendixes, demonstrate the history of assistance to the Vyach. Ivanov’s daughter.

AbstractHow should Anglicans regard other religions? The approaches of a number of Anglican writers considered in this article are valuable, both to Anglicans and to others, beginning with F.D. Maurice in the late nineteenth century. Others include Kenneth Cragg, an Arabist and Evangelical; Alan Race, author of the Exclusivist, Inclusivist, and Pluralist paradigm; Kwok Pui-Lan, a contemporary Asian feminist; Ian S. Markham, who proposes a ‘Theology of Engagement’; Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury and an important writer on the theology of Raimon Panikkar; David F. Ford, proponent of the Cambridge Scriptural Reasoning (SR) program that seeks ‘better quality disagreement’; and Keith Ward, whose systematic theology develops a concept of ‘convergent spirituality’. Moving from the theoretical to the practical, the article discusses the global United Religions Initiative of William E. Swing, former Episcopal Bishop of California. Collectively, these authors provide a range of intersecting Anglican approaches to the evolving question of Anglican relations with other world religions.

Abstract:
The article examines the contribution of the representatives of the Samarin family to the development of the Parish issue in the Russian Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The issue of expanding the rights of the laity in the sphere of parish self-government was one of the most debated problems of Church life in that period. The public discussion was initiated by D.F. Samarin (1827-1901). He formulated the “social concept” of the parish and parish reform, based on Slavophile views on society and the Church. In the beginning of the twentieth century his eldest son F.D. Samarin who was a member of the Special Council on the development the Orthodox parish project in 1907, and as such developed the Slavophile concept of the parish. In 1915, A.D. Samarin, who took up the position of the Chief Procurator of the Most Holy Synod, tried to make his contribution to the cause of the parish reforms, but he failed to do so due to his resignation.

Abstract:
The present article is devoted to the study of political views of one of the representatives of late Slavophilism – F.D. Samarin. The author mainly focuses on Samarin’s attitude to the idea of Zemsky Sobor that was very popular in Russian public circles in the beginning of the 20th century, and on his views on the possibility of the introduction in Russia of a representative body, even if only of deliberative nature. That issue was very important for Samarin as Slavophile, as he’d accumulated great experience of practical work in Zemstva. The author shows the sources of Samarin’s skepticism regarding the concept of representation and turns to the analysis of his own reformative ideas that he offered as alternatives to constitutional reforms and introduction of a new law-making deliberative body. The author pays special attention to Samarin’s attitude to the autocratic monarchy and his belief that the monarch could grant various freedoms to his subjects (freedom of religion, freedom of press, freedom form administrative and police despotism) while still remaining autocratic and not restricting his power by adopting constitution and formation of the Parliament.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background Dynamic orchestration of metabolic pathways during continuous fasting remains unclear. Objective We investigated the physiological effects of Bigu-style fasting and underlying metabolic reprogramming in healthy adults. Methods We conducted a 5-d Bigu trial in 43 healthy subjects [age 23.2 ± 2.4 y; BMI (in kg/m2) 22.52 ± 1.79]. Physiological indicators and body composition were monitored daily during fasting day 1 (F1D) to F5D and after 10-d refeeding postfasting (R10D) and R30D. Blood samples were collected in the morning. Risk factors associated with inflammation, aging, cardiovascular diseases, malnutrition, and organ dysfunction were evaluated by biochemical measurements. Untargeted plasma metabolomics and gut microbial profiling were performed using plasma and fecal samples. Data were analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA with Greenhouse–Geisser correction. Correlation analyses for metabolite modules and taurine were analyzed by Spearman's rank and Pearson tests, respectively. Results Heart rate was accelerated throughout the fasting period. Risk factors associated with inflammation and cardiovascular diseases were significantly lowered during or after Bigu (P < 0.05). Body composition measurement detected an overconsumption of fat starting from F3D till 1 mo after refeeding. Metabolomics unveiled a coupling between gluconeogenesis and cholesterol biosynthesis beyond F3D. Plasma taurine significantly increased at F3D by 31%–46% followed by a reduction to basal level at F5D (P < 0.001), a pattern inversely correlated with changes in glucose and de novo synthesized cholesterol (r = −0.407 and −0.296, respectively; P < 0.001). Gut microbial profiling showed an enrichment of taurine-utilizing bacteria at F5D, which was completely recovered at R10D. Conclusions Our data demonstrate that 5-d Bigu is potentially beneficial to health in young adults. A starvation threshold of 3-d fasting is necessary for maintaining glucose and cholesterol homeostasis via a taurine–microbiota regulatory loop. Our findings provide novel insights into the physiological and metabolic responses of the human body to continuous Bigu-style fasting. Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of the process of preparation of the Tehran conference of leaders of the USSR, USA and Great Britain, held in the Iranian capital from November 28 to December 1, 1943. Based on the analysis of the trilateral correspondence of I.V. Stalin, F.D. Roosevelt and W. Churchill, the authors determine the objectives of the meeting and indicate the positions of the parties regarding the time and place of its holding. It is proved that each of the leaders wanted to organize a conference on the territory under their control, but the desire to resolve controversial issues prevailed over political ambitions, which was a decisive factor in rallying the allies of World War II to fight the aggressors. The novelty of the study is due to the lack of study in the domestic historiography of the organizational aspect of the Tehran conference, which in turn is extremely important for an objective understanding of how the conditions favorable for the adoption of crucial military and political decisions of the time and the development of initial projects of the post-war world order were achieved.

Abstract:
Making recourse to Virginia Woolf’s “Professions for Women” (1931), I have studied the manner in which F.D. Bridges criticizes the patriarchal representations of Victorian women in her Journal of a Lady’s Travels Round the World (1883). In her text, she not only accounts for her experiences of travel in foreign countries but also inserts a discourse that lies counter to male definitions of women’s roles as “household angels,” confined in the domestic space and deprived of power. With the strength she demonstrates through her experiences of travel, she criticizes the fact that women are considered to be ‘the weaker sex.’ She also cultivates a quest for knowledge so as to carve her place in the ‘public sphere’ of knowledge and power and to criticize the practice of representing women as uneducated and ignorant. Last but not least, she highlights the degraded condition of the foreign women in an attempt to call for a universal enfranchisement of women abroad and in her country. All the three elements allow Bridges to fight against the “phantom” of the “angel in the house,” which, according to Woolf, needed to be “killed” in order for a woman to impose her authorship.

Abstract:
The catalyst for this paper is the ongoing debate concerning formal and informal approaches to pedagogy within the music education literature. I utilise a chapter by Philpott (2010) as a means to continue discussion about the apparent dialectic between formal and informal approaches to music learning and the case Philpott raises for radical change in ‘three moments’ of music education history. In engaging with the concerns in Philpott's chapter I also seek to bring to a wider audience the ideas developed by a group of sociologists of education who draw on the work of Basil Bernstein (2000) and critical realism (Moore, 2013) to argue for a realist theory of knowledge. I utilise thesesocial realistideas as a means to engage with the theme of access to what Michael F.D. Young has recently termed ‘powerful knowledge’ (Young, 2012). As Bernstein (2000) suggests we must have an understanding of the recontextualising principles that come into play whenever the classification of knowledge undergoes change, as ideologies shift and change. I argue for a balance between powerful forms of pedagogyandpowerful forms of knowledge based on an awareness of the essentially differentiated nature of knowledge.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the history of the study of Sauromat sites in the Southern Urals, which mainly addresses the formation and development of the culture of the early nomads. Data on the history of the early nomads and the areas of their geographical location originate in the works of ancient authors. In particular, the Greek historian Herodotus in his History writes that the Sarmatian tribes inhabited the lands adjacent to the eastern border of Scythia. In general, ancient literature presents valuable information about the tribes of the Sauromat-Sarmatians, corresponding to the topic we have chosen. Nevertheless, the ancient tribes that lived in the Ural steppes in the early Iron Age remained unexplored for a long time. Only since the 19th-20th centuries, this problem begins to attract the attention of researchers. During this time, scientists such as F.D. Nefedov, I.A. Castanye, M.I. Rostovtsev, B.N. Grakov, P.S. Rykov, M.K. Kadyrbaev, and others carried out archaeological excavations of sites of Sauromat-Sarmatian culture and made great changes in the study of it. Also, the opening in 1887 of the Orenburg Scientific Archival Commission contributed to the further study of the history of nomads.

Abstract:
The article reveals the pretext of A.P. Chekhov’s story “Ionych. The article reveals the pretext of A.P. Chekhov’s story “Ionych”. The essay of the same name by F.D. Nefyodov was published in the “Severny Vestnik” magazine in the same year as the stories “Lights” and “Steppe”, which could have caused Chekhov’s attention to the work of the populist writer. Chekhov collaborated with the magazine and closely followed the materials published in it. He did not recognize Nefyodov as a major writer, however, he obviously remembered his ethnographic essay dedicated to the Russian Old Believers. Ten years later, Chekhov turns to someone else’s work and uses it as one of the important pretexts for his story “Ionych”. The stories of the same name by two authors are interconnected by elements of a certain similarity. Chekhov uses part of someone else’s material to realize his task — to reveal the evolution of the protagonist. Intertextual echoes of Chekhov’s story with Nefyodov’s essay help to create, as it were, a backstory for Dr. Startsev. In addition to Nefyodov’s essay, the intertext in Chekhov’s story is given by references to the works of other authors. Autointertext plays an important role in the story. Chekhov’s reliance on various pretexts is due to the stylistic nature of his work. Chekhov’s rethinking of the material of his predecessors in “Ionych” is due to the renewal of the solution to the problem of personality, which was relevant for the 90s of the 19th century.

Abstract:
Mikhail Bakhtin (1895 - 1975) had a great influence on the history of modern poetics in the world. From the 1980s onwards, the adoption of Bakhtin's poetics was of great significance, contributing to the development of poetics in Vietnam in nearly four decades. One of the essential foundations for his theory is the principle of dialogue. However, applying the principle of dialogue in a systematic relationship with Bakhtin's academic legacy, especially its relation to the principle of carnaval, has never become easy for a consensus. The duty of this essay is to analyze the principle of dialogue in a systematic view. Dialogue is first a linguistic principle proposed on the basis of counter-argument of the linguistic theory of F.D. Saussure. The carnaval principle is a cultural basis for applying the principle of dialogue into the study of literature. By connecting these two principles to a system, Bakhtin wanted to promote the study of literature to cultural poetics. Applying the principle of dialogue for study Dostoievski’s work, he discovered the kind of novel that had never appeared before: polyphonic novel. This type of novel contains a new structure in the relationship between the author and the character, and if not based on the principle of dialogue, it is difficult to understand its full value.
