Abstract:
Frans Vredenrijk Engelenburg (1863-1938) played a major role in the development and expansion of Afrikaans and the Afrikaans academic culture - especially in the northern part of South Africa. As a Dutch intellectual, lawyer and journalist in the nineteenth century South African Republic (Transvaal), he in particular played an important role as advisor and opinion maker from the 1890s onward. One of his biggest achievements was the key role that he played in the establishment of De Zuid Afrikaanse Akademie voor Taal, Letteren en Kunst in 1909. This study is the first part of a more comprehensive biographical project on the life of Engelenburg and the role he fulfilled in the history of the Akademie and South Africa until the thirties of the twentieth century. Since the 1600s the Engelenburg family has played a prominent role in the community where they lived. Aside from the high positions they had held for centuries before, they had in the fourth and again in the sixth generation married into noble families. This contributed to their important position in the community. Due to circumstances Engelenburg was not raised in the Engelenburg milieu. A family break in 1836 was the cause that Engelenburg's father, as a baby, was spirited away from this family milieu. Engelenburg received an extraordinarily good schooling. The solid intellectual foundation already laid then, to a large extent determined the course of his life. He was at the Stedelijk Gymnasium Arnhem when he met Marie Koopmans-De Wet (1834-1906), an aunt by marriage who lived in Cape Town, when on a visit to Europe. She was his soul mate and acted as a mentor and advisor to Engelenburg. The friendship strengthened with the years. He already at school had the desire to visit South Africa one day. His parents' divorce when he was still a student at the University of Leyden, steered his life in a very different direction than what he had foreseen for himself. The divorce was to a large extent the reason that, although he had studied law, he discarded the notion of a career in law after only a year. His decision to follow a career in journalism affected the rest of his life. The Transvaal War (1880-1881) meant that the Dutch developed an admiration for the Transvaalers for the determination and courage they displayed in their attempts to defeat the British army. President Paul Kruger's call shortly after the war that the Transvaal needed young Dutchmen further encouraged Engelenburg to come to South Africa. Previously Engelenburg had for a year worked for Fred Hogendorp at the Dagblad van Suidholland en s’Gravenhage in The Hague. Circumstances abruptly changed when Hogendorp suddenly became insane. During the same time, the owner of De Volksstem newspaper in Pretoria had committed suicide and Engelenburg seized the work opportunity. Within a matter of three months, he arrived in the Transvaal. Within a month after his arrival he was appointed chief editor of De Volksstem. He had studied the Transvaal situation thoroughly and by means of the newspaper and through tireless efforts, he contributed to improving the farming community’s cultural literacy. The education situation in the Transvaal enjoyed his constant attention. After the Anglo-Boer War (ABW) (1899-1902), he continued to work towards improving the education system in the Transvaal. He early on became involved in the Transvaal University College (later University of Pretoria). Before the ABW he did everything possible to promote the Dutch language to the Boer people. However, after the war he realised that Afrikaans had a rightful place, and he, in addition to Dutch, became a champion for the Afrikaans language. The battle between the proponents of Dutch and Afrikaans respectively, increased after the ABW. To achieve unity of action between the two groups, De Zuid Afrikaanse Akademie voor Taal, Letteren and Kunst was founded in 1909. Behind the scenes Engelenburg was one of the major driving forces to assist with the founding of the organisation. As a board member and later as chairman, he gave impetus to the Akademie. In 2009 the organisation celebrated its centenary. This is an important milestone, especially seen in the light of the current political climate in South Africa. The Akademie can now be regarded as a monument to Engelenburg as the fruit of his labour and perseverance during the first three decades of the Akademie’s existence.

Dissertação de Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária
Com o objectivo de conhecer alguns dos agentes infecciosos que afectam a população felina da Associação dos Amigos dos Animais Abandonados da Moita, e relacionar a sua eventual presença com as alterações clínicas apresentadas pelos animais em questão, nomeadamente a Gengivo-Estomatite Crónica Felina (GECF) e a Doença Respiratória Felina (DRF), foram avaliados neste estudo 50 felinos, incluídos aleatoriamente. A cada animal, e após exame clínico, foram colhidas as amostras de material biológico apropriado para realização de hemograma, detecção de anticorpos contra o Vírus da Imunodeficiência Felina (FIV) e de antigénio do Vírus da Leucemia Felina (FeLV), detecção de ácido nucleico de Herpesvírus Felino tipo 1 (FHV-1) e Calicivírus Felino (FCV), e pesquisa de Candida spp. O FIV e FeLV foram detectados por imunocromatografia de membrana, o FHV-1 por PCR em tempo real, o FCV por RT-PCR convencional e as leveduras isoladas em Sabouraud dextrose agar foram posteriormente identificadas quanto ao género e espécie. Constatou-se que, dos 50 animais, 22% eram positivos para FIV, 10% para FeLV, 62% para FHV-1 e 26% para FCV. Em relação às leveduras, foi detectada a presença de C. silvicola (n=3), C. valida (n=1) e C. parapsilosis (n=1). As associações estabelecidas entre a presença do vírus e determinada manifestação clínica que apresentaram significado estatístico foram: a presença de úlceras linguais em animais com FCV e co-infecção FCV / FIV; o desenvolvimento de estomatite nos animais infectados unicamente com FCV, FIV ou FeLV, e nas co-infecções FCV / FIV, FCV / FeLV, e FHV-1 / FeLV; a manifestação de gengivite de grau 2 ou 3 nos animais com FCV; e a ausência de úlceras linguais nos animais com infecção por FHV-1. O animal em que foi detectada a presença de C. parapsilosis apresentava gengivite ligeira, corrimento ocular e, a nível hematológico, leucocitose com linfocitose e monocitose. O animal infectado com C. valida exibia apenas estomatite ligeira e corrimento nasal, e os animais com C. silvicola revelaram gengivite ligeira, estomatite, úlceras linguais, corrimento ocular e nasal, e leucocitose com neutrofilia, linfocitose e monocitose. Nenhuma destas alterações revelou associação estatisticamente significativa com a presença da levedura. Para uma correcta avaliação da prevalência destes agentes infecciosos em populações errantes felinas e sua associação a GECF e DRF, deverão ser realizados estudos mais extensos quanto ao número de animais envolvidos. Por outro lado, considerando a escassa informação sobre a microbiota micológica da cavidade oral dos felinos, a detecção de Candida spp. contribuiu para um melhor conhecimento nesta área, sendo que a sua influência na etiologia da GECF e da DRF, deverá também ser estudada com maior profundidade.
ABSTRACT - Detection of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline Leukemia Virus, Feline Calicivirus, Feline Herpesvirus-1 and Candida spp. in stray cats and possible association with Feline Gingivostomatitis and Feline Respiratory Disease - The aim of this study was to analyze the viral and mycological microbiota of cats’ mouth and its relationship with the clinical symptoms, especially with Feline Gingivo-Stomatitis (FGS) and Feline Respiratory Disease (FRD), and infection with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV), both able to induce immunodeficiency. The test group included 50 cats from the Associação dos Amigos dos Animais Abandonados da Moita, that were subjected to clinical examination with collection of biological samples for serological detection of Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) antigen and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) antibodies, detection of Candida spp. and viral nucleic acid of Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1) and Feline Calicivirus (FCV). FIV and FeLV were detected by immunochromatography membrane, FHV-1 by real time PCR, FCV by RT-PCR, and the yeasts by mycological culture and then identified to genus and species. Within the 50 cats sampled, 22% (11/50) were FIV seropositive, 10% (5/50) FeLV, 62% (31/50) FHV-1 and 26% (13/50) FCV. Regarding the yeasts, C. silvicola (n=3), C. valida (n=1) and C. parapsilosis (n=1), were detected. The associations between the agent detected and the clinical sign shown, that were statistically relevant were: the presence of tongue ulceration within FCV and FCV / FIV infected animals; the development of stomatitis in cats with FCV, FIV, FeLV, and FCV / FIV, FCV / FeLV, and FHV-1 / FeLV; moderate to severe gingivitis in FCV infected cats; and the absence of tongue ulceration in FHV-1 infected cats. The cat with C. parapsilosis showed mild gingivitis, ocular discharge, and hematological findings were leucocytosis with lymphocytosis and monocytosis. Mild gingivitis and nasal discharge were presented by the C. valida infected animal, while the C. silvicola infected animals showed mild gingivitis, stomatitis, tongue ulceration, ocular discharge, nasal, discharge, and leucocytosis with neutrophilia, lymphocytosis and monocytosis. Because of the small size of the sample, none of the clinical findings were statistically associated with yeasts presence. Once again, due to sampling issues, a more thorough analysis should be performed to correctly evaluate the true prevalence of these infectious agents in stray feline population. On the other hand, considering the lack of information regarding the mycological microbiota of feline oral cavity, the identification in our samples of yeasts included in the Candida genus, will certainly prove helpful. Furthermore, the role of C. valida, C. parapsilosis and C. silvicola in FGS and FRD should be deeply evaluated.

Tradisjonelle arbeidsformer i dagens byggebransje vier lite oppmerksomhet til forvaltning, drift og vedlkehold (FDV) av bygninger. BIM, bygningsinformasjonsmodellering, kan bidra til en ny digital arbeidsprosess, hvor FDV står i sentrum. Resultatet av en slik prosess er en modell, en database, hvor all informasjon om et bygg ligger lagret.LYDIA er FDV-programvare, utviklet og levert av Lydia AS. De ønsker å videreutvikle LYDIA i retning BIM, og se på hvordan sammenhengen BIM-LYDIA kan utføres i praksis. Lydia AS opplever i dag størst utfordringer ved import av informasjon til LYDIA-databasen. Kundene samler manuelt inn store mengder informasjon til databasen. Erfaringer viser at endel kunder strever med å forstå bruksnytten av LYDIA.Systemarkitekturen presentert i oppgaven løser Lydia AS sine forutsetninger for overgangen BIM-LYDIA. Funksjonaliteten i LYDIA er opprettholdt. buildingSMART sitt standardiserte filformat, IFC, er brukt som utgangspunkt for overføring av informasjon. Løsningen er realiserbar innen andre kvartal 2014. Modellen forenkler dagens importarbeid. Lydia AS sine kunder slipper manuell dataregistrering som øker risikoen for feil. Ved import direkte fra BIM forenkler man prosessen med å hente informasjon til LYDIA-databasen. Modellen bygger likevel ikke oppunder en ny samarbeidsprosess. Digitale arbeidsformer kan endre de tradisjonelle arbeidsformene i byggebransjen. Utgangspunktet for slike arbeidsprosesser er større tillit og mer fokus på samskaping. Lydia AS må selv tenke gjennom hvilken retning de ønsker å ta for fremtidige LYDIA.

Abstract In the year 2019 the vehicle workshops services returned to the Swedish Armed Forces. For six years they had been an integrated part of the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and the business was set up in a corporate fashion. When returning to the Swedish Armed Forces the workshops will continue to use that corporate business model, and at the same time adjust to military setting and logic. Among other things, the workshops will be organized into military units, under the same conditions as all other parts of the Armed Forces. The purpose of this thesis is to examine and understand the meaning and consequences of the corporate and the military logic coexisting within the Vehicle Workshop Services units. A typology made specifically for this reason is used to depict the different configurations that occur when those two logic structures coexist. The study draws the conclusions that the dualistic relationship between the corporate and the military logic ends up in compromises that makes the goal and purpose of the organisation vague and the personnel involved experience a difference between how it is supposed to be functioning and how it actually does. Furthermore, the study states that the conditions for developing the Vehicle Workshop Services units into a strong and resilient organisation from a HR and symbolic perspective is less favourable. The Swedish Armed Forces need to address this actively to create a common understanding of the factors that are in play by all personnel involved in the matter. The study gives five hands on suggestions to mitigate those problems. Finally, some suggestions are given how to re-use the typology that was created for the study in other contexts.

Abstract:
After briefly examining the history of trade marks and establishing the theoretical framework of trade mark functions, an analysis from the perspective of semiotics is conducted, viewing the trade mark as a sign. This analysis serves as a tool for the suggestions and conclusions drawn in relation to the role of trade mark law today. The issues of trade mark registration, use and protection are examined, as main facets of the trade mark functions. An analysis of the legal provisions, legal doctrine and case law on trade mark registration and use in Greece, before and after the entry into force of the First Council Directive on the Harmonisation of trade mark laws in Europe 89/104/EEC is undertaken, so as to denote the effect of the European harmonisation on these issues. The Court of Justice case law is examined, in juxtaposition to the Greek case law on the respective implementing provisions. The similarities and differences are noted and analysed. Throughout, examples from a common law jurisdiction, namely the UK, are taken into account. The issues of risk of confusion and dilution are analytically examined at a national (Greek) and European level. In comparison to the Court of Justice jurisprudence, the national legal framework and case law of Greece on these issues is analysed. Examples from other European jurisdictions are taken into account. The theory of dilution in the context of the European trade mark framework is further analysed against developments in the USA. The controversial doctrine of trade mark dilution, introduced by Fr. I. Schechter, is of primary interest in the course of the thesis and suggestions are made for a new perspective of the theory. The controversial doctrine of Schechter is seen, in view of the above, under a new light.

This thesis F. M. Dostoevsky: The Idiot deals with the life of the author with an emphasis on his work, which is always current, because it concerns itself with increasingly vital topics related to human life. The thesis also deals with issues that are key to understanding Dostoevsky and his perception of the world and discusses the previous staging of the play in the Czech Republic, focusing on the work of the director Miroslav Krobot. Primarily, however, this thesis represents a detailed analysis of Dostoevsky's The Idiot and a detailed analysis of the individual dramatic characters within the play, with a focus on their internal processes and relationships, which are then expressed through costume.

Esta tese tem como objetivo analisar "l'arte di far manifesti" de F.T. Marinetti. Em um primeiro momento contextualiza-se o surgimento do futurismo com o intuito de proceder uma leitura de caráter geral do Marinetti pré-futurista e futurista, passando pela gestação do movimento na revista Poesia. Em um segundo momento busca-se, com o apoio da teoria dos gêneros literários, definir quais são os procedimentos dominantes que caracterizam um manifesto do futurismo italiano. Por fim, são apresentados e analisados alguns dos manifestos do futurismo italiano, tais como o Fondazione e manifesto del futurismo e o Manifesto tecnico della letteratura futurista em base, principalmente, às reflexões de Giovanni Lista e de Claudia Salaris, bem como são abordados seus desdobramentos.
This thesis has as its objective to analyze "l'artedifarmanifesti" by F.T. Marinetti. Firstly, the outbreak of futurism is contextualized with the aim to conduct a reading of general characteristics of the pre-futuristic and futuristic Marinetti, passing through the gestation of the movement in the magazine Poesia. Secondly, with the support of the theory of literary genres, there is a tentative move to define the prevailing procedures which characterize a manifesto of Italian futurism. At last, some manifestos of the Italian futurism are presented and analyzed, such as the Fondazione e manifesto del futurismo and the Manifesto tecnicodellaletteratura futurista in basis, mainly with regard to the reflections of Giovanni Lista and of Claudia Salaris, added to the approach of the unfolding of the manifestos.

Dagens ökade krav på effektivisering och kostnadsmedvetenhet skapar behov av att enklare och mer affärsmässigt kunna anskaffa IT-stöd. Fler och fler företag på marknaden erbjuder sina kunder att köpa IT-stöd paketerat som tjänster levererade via Internet. FMV:s inriktning och strategi är att i allt större utsträckning köpa IT-stöd som tjänster då målet är att minska IT-kostnaderna. Problemet inom FMV är att arbetssättet och styrmodellerna inte anpassats till anskaffning av tjänster vilket resulterar i svårigheter att styra och följa upp avtal samt problem att dimensionera och planera IT-projekten. Arbetet inleddes med en förstudie för att kartlägga hur IT-enheten arbetar. För att tydliggöra problembilden och identifiera förändringsbehoven genomfördes en förändringsanalys som beskriver dagens svårigheter kopplat till visioner och mål. Utifrån framkomna mål och de visioner som legat till grund för inriktningarna för att minska IT-kostnaderna gjordes en analys av förändringsbehoven. Analysen påvisade att den inledande planeringen av IT-projekt är nyckeln för ett lyckat införande. För att åstadkomma en bra grund för projekten i planeringsfasen har en beslutsstödsmodell tagits fram. Modellen är baserad på faktorer som identifierats som kritiska i valet av anskaffningsstrategi och som i stor grad styr om ett IT-stöd kan anskaffas som tjänst. Kopplat till modellen finns påståenden kring anskaffning av tjänst och anskaffning i egen regi. Idag genomförs en avreglering av den svenska Försvarsmakten vilket medför att Försvarsmakten kan komma att efterfråga fler integrated solutions från försvarsindustrin. Integrated solutions är ett relativt outforskat koncept som blivit alltmer vanligt i företags strategiska tänkande. Detta koncept innebär att leverantören inte längre enbart tillhandahåller separata produkter och tjänster utan ett företags specifika produkter och tjänster kopplas samman till en specialanpassad lösning för kundens enskilda behov. Detta innebär att det värde som kunden upplever i och med konsumtion av den specialanpassade lösningen ökar i jämförelse med det värde som uppstår när företagets erbjudanden endast innefattade standardiserade produkter och tjänster. Det resultat som framkom i vår uppsats var att integrated solutions är en sammankoppling av produkter, system och tjänster vilket resulterar i en helhetslösning. Kunden kan köpa en hel integrated solution eller så kan kunden endast betala för den tid eller för de delar av den specifika integrated solution som används. Fördelen med att kunden endast kan betala för den tid som en viss integrated solution används är att leverantören får en möjlighet att genomföra en affär som annars kanske inte hade varit möjlig. FMV:s sätt att hantera sina upphandlingar kan komma att ändras i och med den kommande förändringen, enskilda produkter eller system kommer inte längre att inhandlas istället kommer fokus i större utsträckning att ligga på sammansatta erbjudanden. Även fast FMV i viss utsträckning redan upphandlat sammansatta erbjudanden, kommer behovet av dessa att genomgå en förändring. I och med FMV:s arbete på högre systemnivåer kommer myndigheten att efterfråga vidare erbjudanden än förr, vilket kommer att innebära att myndighetens beställningar kommer att innefatta mer samt bli större. Det är viktigt att Saab utvecklar sina kompetenser till att kunna tillgodose dessa nya uppkommande behov innan konkurrenterna gör det. För att den kommande förändringen ska leda till möjligheter för Saab är det dock viktigt att företaget även de höjer sig i systemnivå. Om Saab kan komma att tillgodose dessa behov kan beställningarna från FMV att öka företagets sysselsättningsgrad. Saab kan dock inte vara säkra på att företaget kommer att få de outsourcingaktiviteterna som FMV kommer att lägga ut, genom att använda sig av den nära relation som finns mellan parterna kan dock Saab komma att försöka förutspå de uppkommande behoven. Konkurrensen kan även komma att öka i det fall FMV väljer att gå ut på den internationella marknaden, detta kan dock även innebära en möjlighet för Saab då företaget får referensprojekt att uppvisa för sina internationella kunder. För att den kommande förändringen ska komma att lyckas för FMV är det viktigt att hela myndigheten har en gemensam målbild där alla strävar åt samma håll. Vi anser även att FMV:s omorganisation kan komma att innebära en effektivisering av både FMV och Saabs verksamheter.

The future prospects of higher education are increasingly seen as linked to the future prospects of creativity. However, much prevailing discourse on creativity and higher education sees both in narrowly instrumental terms. The literary critic and educationalist F. R. Leavis (1895-1978) provides a searching critique of this discourse. This critique reflects a world-view rooted in Leavis's exposure to the conditions of technologised warfare while serving as a nursing orderly in the First World War. This world-view is later given shape by the cultural programme of Cambridge English and finally expressed at its most adventurous during his association with York University. Leavis's critique can be analysed using a framework of creativity as 'person, process and purpose', devised from existing models of creativity and organisational research. Viewed through this systemic framework, Leavis offers a set of conceptual tools relating to the creative self ('selfhood', 'identity'), the dynamics of creativity (Almung, 'nisus') and creative purpose (telos, 'telic'). These tools have various literary and philosophical sources but all share the basic assumption that creativity is a capacity over which humanity cannot exert complete transmuting control. The belief to the contrary, Leavis contends, stultifies our capacity for creativity and adaptive learning. However, Leavis falls short of pursuing certain of his own insights to their logical conclusions. These are appropriately supplemented by additional concepts drawn from other systemic perspectives. How can higher education foster creativity? Answers proliferate but tend to address matters of function rather than purpose. Leavis's concepts deepen our understanding of the key questions of creativity, including those relating to academic self-identity, pedagogy and institutional purpose. Leavis's thought and practice encourage us to make sense of creativity in more systemic, imaginative ways and to advance the notion that re-conceiving creativity is one of higher education's most pressing commitments.

In a recent judgment by the Free State Provincial Division of the High Court of South Africa it was decided that a trustee who resigns is only relieved from his duties when his name is removed from the letter of authority by the Master of the High Court. This judgment has caused many questions to be raised regarding the implications of the resignation by a trustee. This judgment and the current legal position of the resigning trustee are investigated in this dissertation. The legal position of the resigning trustee seems to be uncertain, and the mentioned judgment should not be unreservedly accepted as correct. The role and responsibility of the Master of the High Court in this process is considered, as well as the legal position of the resigning trustee, the remaining trustees and third parties contracting with the trust. Certain conclusions are drawn and recommendations are made regarding this aspect of South African trust law.

In this thesis, F.A. Hayek's argument is against social justice is given context, discussed, and evaluated. Hayek was one of the leading voices of libertarian ideology in the Twentieth Century. While Road to Serfdom is his most popular work, Hayek's philosophy is most fully expressed in his three volume set, Law, Legislation and Liberty. His thoughts against social justice are found the in the second volume, entitled The Mirage of Social Justice. It is the conclusion of the author that Hayek's argument against social justice, in the form of redistribution, falls short as it depends on a presupposition that an evolutionary moral and legal process will necessarily end in securing a libertarian style of government. The only possible means of salvaging the argument would to accept inherent and inviolable human rights, which Hayek fundamentally rejects as he claims the Kantian tradition.

Naturally occurring CD4+CD25+ T regulatory cells (Treg) play important roles in maintaining immunologic self-tolerance in addition to controlling the magnitude of anti-microbial immune responses. However, the capacity of these CD4+CD25+ Treg cells to control immune responses both in vivo and in vitro is not well established. CD4+CD25+ Treg cell-mediated suppression can control autoimmune diseases; transplantation tolerance and graft verses host disease and, in contrast hinder tumor immunity and immunity to infectious agents. As Treg cells have been reported to be involved in several diseases, this study focused on molecular characteristics that enables them to maintain anergy and also resistance to programmed cell death along with the effect of FIV-infection on regulation of the above phenotypic characteristics. Our results show that feline CD4+CD25+ Treg cells are phenotypically and functionally anergic as indicated by elevated levels of the cyclin dependent kinase inhibitors, CdkI¡¦s, (p21cip1,p16ink4, and p27kip1) , and resistance to mitogen-induced proliferation compared to their counter parts CD4+CD25- T cells. Importantly, CdkI¡¦s are constitutively over-expressed only in FIV-infected cats. As expected Treg cells from FIV-infected cats that over-expressed CdkI¡¦s expressed low levels of the cyclins (mainly cyclins D) and phosphorylated retinoblastoma protein (pRb) that are responsible for cell cycle progression. We investigated the role of TGF?Ò signaling and found that TGF?Ò1 plus ConA stimulation was able to convert CD4+CD25- T cells to CD4+CD25+ T cells with functional and phenotypic characteristics including upregulation of CdkI¡¦s and bcl-2. The differential expression of CdkI¡¦s and bcl-2 between the two CD4+ T cell subsets may be linked to TGF?Ò-Smad pathway. Consistent with upregulation of CdkI¡¦s and bcl-2, we found that although natural and TGF?Ò1 converted CD4+CD25+ Treg cells are anergic, they are more resistant to activation induced cell death compared to CD4+CD25- T cells functionally which correlated with increased bcl-2 to bax ratio in Treg cells. Thus, the molecular characterization of this unique population of Treg cells may be essential for understanding their role and function for developing effective therapeutics and vaccination especially against chronic infections such as Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

F.W. Harvey’s poetry was more popular during the First World War than many – if not most – of those whom we celebrate as ‘the war poets’ today. He is unique among the poets of that war for his insight into the life of the British POW in Germany, and for the influence of his work in the first of the British trench journals, the 5th Gloucester Gazette. Yet, he has received little national attention since his death in 1957, and scholarly work on his life is lacking, largely owing to a deficit of publicly-available primary sources and original material regarding his life and works. This has resulted in a failure to place him properly within the literary canon of the First World War. The recent discovery of Harvey’s papers allows us to examine his life and his contemporary cultural impact, and more fully to evaluate the value of his work and what it tells us about the First World War experience. Using Harvey’s papers, this biographical study will reconstruct the historical details of his life as they relate to the First World War. Concurrently, it will develop our understanding of his war-related work. This will demonstrate Harvey’s influence during the war, first as a trench poet, then as the poetic voice of the British POW. It will also examine how Harvey’s work continued to be affected by the war in the years after the armistice. The result will be a greater appreciation of the life and importance of a First World War poet whose voice was in danger of being lost to time.

Not much research regarding burnout amongst clergy in South Africa has been done. Recently a shift in the direction of positive psychology or salutogenesis took place and which highlighted two relatively new constructs, namely sense of coherence and engagement. Previous research in the "Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk" (NG Church) found a correlation between sense of coherence and burnout. In the "Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk van Afrika" (NH Church) however, no research regarding burnout within a salutogenic paradigm was ever done. The general objective of this research was to determine the levels and relationship of sense of coherence, coping, burnout and engagement amongst ministers of the NH Church. A cross-sectional research design was used. The Orientation to Life Questionnaire (OLQ), COPE-Questionnaire (COPE), Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) were used as measuring instruments on a stratified random (proportional) sample (n = 200) of ministers of the NH Church and from which 87 useable responses were received. Structural equation modelling was applied on the MBI-HSS to confirm a three-factor model with best fit. Cronbach alpha coefficients, inter-item correlation coefficients and factor analysis were used to determine the reliability and validity of the measuring instruments. Descriptive statistics, Pearson-product correlation coefficients, canonical correlation coefficients, and analysis of variance were used to analyse the data. The results showed that high levels of sense of coherence, approach coping and high levels of engagement are related to low levels of burnout, while venting of emotions are related to high levels of burnout. It was also found that sense of coherence and coping predicted emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and personal accomplishment. Furthermore, it was found that levels of emotional exhaustion for ministers in the age group 25-29, were consistently lower than that of any other age group in the sample, while levels for the age group 50-65 were also lower than that for ministers in the age groups 30-39 and 40-49, but still higher than levels for age group 25-29. Limitations of the study and recommendations regarding the organisation and future research were indicated.

Demand Side Management (DSM) is one of the most viable and sustainable short term methods to address the shortfall in electricity generation in South Africa. This is because DSM projects can be implemented relatively quickly and inexpensively when compared with alternative generation options. This specifically applies to the mining industry. South African mines presently consume 15% of Eskom-generated electricity. Mine compressed air systems are some of the biggest users, consuming approximately 21% of mine electricity consumption. Electricity savings on compressed air systems are therefore important. With this study, various Energy Efficiency methods on compressed air systems were investigated. These methods include variable speed drives on compressor motors, temperature control of compressor discharge, minimising pressure drops in the air distribution systems, eliminating compressed air leaks, and optimising compressor selection and control. The most efficient strategies were identified, taking into account factors such as financial viability, sustainability, and ease of implementation. The best strategies were found to be the optimised control and selection of compressors, minimising compressed air leaks, and the optimal control of system pressure. These strategies were implemented and tested on large compressed air systems in gold and platinum mines. Savings of between 10% and 35% on the maximum demand of the systems were achieved. In present monetary terms this translates to as much as R108 million savings for the mines per year at the end of 2009 tariffs. If total mine compressed air electricity consumption can reduce by 30%, it will result in nearly a 1% reduction in total Eskom demand. This shows that mine compressed air savings can make a significant contribution to the drive for Energy Efficiency in South Africa.

In the modern era of international trade most agreements are concluded by way of electronic means. This form of trade is better known as e–trading. This method of negotiating and concluding contracts are popular and the way of the future. With the use of electronic means faulty communications can occur and create legal uncertainty. Faulty communications can be a hindrance to international trade and legal certainty in this area is needed. This study focuses on the legal position where a faulty electronic communication arises at the conclusion of an international contract. These faulty communications can cause a mistake/error between the contracting parties and can exclude the consent between the parties. If the consent between the parties is absent it can have an affect on the validity of the contract. The South African legal position of mistake/error due to faulty electronic communications at the conclusion of a contract is analysed and compared to other international instruments. These international instruments include the 1980 United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), the 2004 UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts and the 2005 United Nations Convention on the Use of Electronic Communications in International Contracts. These international instruments were specifically created for international trade and can be used to regulate the legal position of contracting parties. Based on the above comparison the South African legal position is evaluated and some improvements are recommended.

This thesis examines the interrelationship between the concepts of evolution, scepticism and conservatism in the thought of Friedrich August von Hayek (1899-1992). It argues that the concept of evolution plays a vital role in Hayek's epistemology and social philosophy. It proposes that Hayek's understanding of the concept of evolution shaped his early writings on theoretical psychology and the formation of the mind. He subsequently developed his initial ideas in a more systematic way and discussed them in more depth in his writings on the epistemology and methodology of the social sciences. Hayek maintained that the underlying mechanism of the formation of mind and society is the mechanism of evolution. From Hayek's point of view, the human mind and human society have simultaneously evolved through the process of evolution over millions of years. Hayek offered his evolutionary approach as an alternative to 'constructive rationalism'. The thesis argues that Hayek's evolutionary approach led him to adopt a scepticism about the role of reason in society. Hayek maintained that reason itself is the result of human civilization, a civilization that became possible due to rules and traditions that cannot be justified a priori. Hayek's scepticism about the role and capacity of abstract reason and his emphasis on social institutions and traditions had placed his position close to conservatism. Although Hayek rejected any relation between his ideas and conservatism, this thesis tries to show why such a reading of Hayek's political thought is plausible. After identifying three doctrines of conservatism, i.e. scepticism/pessimism, traditionalism and organicism, this thesis argues that there are some significant similarities between Hayek's political thought and conservatism.

In my diploma work I describe my own experiences and emocions of me like an actor during playing two theather roles on stage. Fist of them is Moritz Stiefel from drama Spring awakening. These part I rehearse in theatre Komorní scéna Aréna in Ostrava. Second part, wchich I am speaking of is Prince Myshkin, wchich I play in Theatre Petra Bezruče in town of Ostrava too. Because of the fact, that my real life has very comon moments with these two men I include to my diploma work fragments from my own liwing. In last two chapters I write brief facts about F.M. Dostojevskij and about Frank Wedekind.

L’anti-passéisme radical est le mot d’ordre essentiel du Futurisme. Marinetti en prône le concept dans le Manifeste publié dans Le Figaro du 20 février 1909 et l’applique à la lettre lorsqu’il renie en 1911 ses « maîtres symbolistes » (Baudelaire, Verlaine, Mallarmé). Mais en est-il vraiment ainsi ? Une lecture de la poésie en langue française de Marinetti, composée avant 1909 (La Conquête des Étoiles, Destruction, La Ville Charnelle), montre que la doctrine futuriste s’édifie « par rapport » aux auteurs du passé, fût-il récent puisqu’il s’agit du Symbolisme et post-Symbolisme français et de la poésie italienne de l'époque (principalement D’Annunzio et Pascoli). La présente étude s’attache à retracer ce parcours qui se déploie comme une série de « réécritures » ou de métamorphoses successives, déterminées par la mort du modèle antérieur et sa conversion en une oeuvre personnelle inédite. La mise à jour de cette incessante dynamique de mort et de régénérescence permet d’appréhender le Futurisme dans sa dimension «mythique » fondamentale qui constitue à notre avis le véritable acte de naissance du mouvement dont le Manifeste aura pour fonction de théoriser les principes
Radical anti-traditionalism es a key watchword of Futurism. Marinetti enhances this concept in the Manifesto published in Le Figaro on 20th February 1909 and applies it literally when in 1911 he denies his « Symbolist Masters » (Baudelaire, Verlaine, Mallarmé). Is that really so? A reading of the poetry that Marinetti composed in French before 1909 (La Conquête des Étoiles, Destruction, La Ville Charnelle) shows that Futurist doctrine sets itself up “in comparison with” the authors of the past – although it is a recent past, since it refers to French Symbolism and Post-Symbolism and to the Italian poetry of that time (above all D’Annunzio and Pascoli). Our study aims at drawing up a scheme that unfolds like a series of « rewritings » or successive metamorphoses brought about by the death of the previous model and its conversion to a new personal work. The updating of this unceasing mechanism of death and regeneration lets Futurism be comprehended in its essential « mythical » dimension which is, in our opinion, the real birth of a movement whose principles the Manifesto will theorize

The aim of the graduate work is to identify the specifics of valuation of television companies. The research was conducted on the example of a company FTV Prima, spol. s.r.o. Firstly a detailed financial and strategic analysis has been made with an emphasis not only on the selected company, but also for the entire industry. Then was prepared a package of conclusions and recommendations regarding the valuation of television companies. The last chapter is a brief overview of the identified specifics that should introduce an evaluator to the substance of this issue, prior to the start of valuation work. The work contains a scheme of work with specific television value drivers.

Ganymedes är största månen i vårt Solsystem, och är ett föremål för intensiv vetenskaplig forskning under senaste decenier. Sedan 1998, STIS (Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph) instrumentet ombord rymdteleskopet Hubble (HST) har observerat Ganymedes i UV ljus med våglängder mellan 1150 Å och 1730 Å i fem olika omgångar. Bilder av månen har tagits när Ganymedes var i olika positioner i sin bana. Detta gör det möjligt att jämföra båda hemisfärer av månen, och att undersöka eventuell tidsvariation. I denna rapport HST/STIS observationer av Ganymedes analyseras med målsättningen att undersöka månens exosfär bestående av atomär syre samt månens albedo i FUV våglänger. Väteexosfären, också kallad korona, förväntas sprida Lyman- ljuset vid 1216 Å, som kan observeras av STIS. Observationer i denna våglängd analyseras och en modell är framtagen för olika källor som bidrar vid denna våglängd. En uppskattning görs också av en eventuell absorption av Ganymedes emissioner i Jordens övre atmosfär, som kan uppgå till 85%. Jämförelse av modellen med bilder från HST/STIS tyder på att Ganymedes har en väteexosfär med ytdensiteten av (2-8) 103 cm􀀀3. Under Hubble kampanj 13328 har däremot betydligt lägre antal väteatomer detekterats, som kan bero på skillnader i magnetosfäriska omgivningen av månen jämfört med tidigare observationer. FUV albedo av månens yta har undersökts genom jämförelser av reflektansen vid olika våglängder, inklusive eventuella skillnader mellan olika hemisfärer. Vi finner att bakre (i förhållande till rörelsen i banan, som månen är låst i) hemisfären är ljusare än främre hemisfären för < 1600 Å. För längre våglängder, > 2000 Å, har motsatta resultat rapporterats tidigare, där främre hemisfären var ljusare. Detta tyder på att Ganymedes ytreflektans har en spektral inversion mellan 1600-2000 Å. Vi noterar även att ytreflektansen ökar med kortare våglängd för < 1400 Å, som kan bero på att ytans växelverkan med rymdpartiklar.
Ganymede, the largest moon in our Solar System, has been a target for intensive scientific research during the past decades. Since 1998, the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) onboard of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has observed it in five different HST campaigns, operating in a wavelength range between 1150-1730 Å. The images were obtained when Ganymede was located at different orbital phase, providing information about both the trailing and leading hemispheres, and allowing for the search of potential hemispherical and time variability. Here, we analyze Ganymede’s HST/STIS observations in the search for a hydrogen exosphere and the study of the far-ultraviolet (FUV) albedo at different wavelengths. The hydrogen corona is expected to scatter sunlight at the Lyman- wavelength (1216 Å), which is within STIS’ spectral range. We analyze the observations at this particular wavelength, and derive models for the different sources of emission that are expected to contribute to the signal. We also estimate the potential extinction of Ganymede’s coronal emissions in the Earth’s upper atmosphere, which can be up to 85%. The comparison between the HST/STIS images and the model allows us to detect the hydrogen exosphere, which we estimate to be in a range of approximately (2-8) 103 cm􀀀3. The atomic hydrogen abundance in Ganymede’s atmosphere during HST campaign 13328 appears to be significantly lower, which could be related to differences in the plasma magnetospheric environment. We study Ganymede’s FUV albedo comparing the reflectance at different wavelengths, and potential difference between leading and trailing hemispheres. We find out that the trailing hemisphere is brighter than the leading side for < 1600 Å. This dichotomy is opposite to the previous results reported for > 2000 Å, where the leading hemisphere is actually brighter. Hence, there is a spectral inversion of Ganymede’s surface reflectivity at some wavelength in the range 1600-2000 Å. We also find out that the reflectivity of the surface increases for < 1400 Å, which might be related to space weathering processes on the surface.

Siendo una actividad tan significativa en la sociedad, las mujeres siguen estando a un menor nivel que los hombres dentro del mundo de futbol.
