Abstract:
We construct an infinite word w over the 5-letter alphabet such that for every factor f of w of length at least two, there exists a cyclic permutation of f that is not a factor of w. In other words, w does not contain a non-trivial conjugacy class. This proves the conjecture in Gamard et al. [Theoret. Comput. Sci. 726 (2018) 1–4].

Abstract:
A laboratory experiment was conducted at Department of Seed Science and Technology, UAS Raichur to estimate ABA content in foxtail millet (Setaria italica L.) using Phytodetek ABA Test Kit. ABA estimation in millets is helpful to trace out the reason behind the dormancy in millets and is less explored. Nine genotypes were studied in the present investigation. Among the foxtail millet genotypes, the highest dormancy duration of 35 days was observed in two genotypes viz., DHFt-4-5 and DHFt-5-3 and slight dormancy was noticed in the genotype DHFt- 35-1. The genotype DHFt-35-1 recorded lowest ABA concentration of 3.199 pmol/g f. w. followed by genotypes DHFt-2-5 and DHFt-2-5-1 (3.266 and 3.291 pmol/g f. w. respectively). Highest ABA concentration was found in DHFt-5-3 (3.404 pmol/g f. w.) followed by DHFt-4-5 (3.396 pmol/g f. w.). Thus it was concluded that ABA in millet seeds makes them ‘climate smart crops’ and during the climate change regime, it is only millets that can ensure India’s food and nutrition needs in future.

Abstract:
Seven healthy male volunteers exercised on a cycle ergometer at 50 +/- 5% VO2max for 180 min, on three occasions during which they ingested either water only (W), [13C]glucose (G), or [13C]fructose (F) (140 +/- 12 g, diluted at 7% in water, and evenly distributed over the exercise period). Blood glucose concentration (in mM) significantly decreased during exercise with W (5.1 +/- 0.4 to 4.2 +/- 0.1) but remained stable with G (5.0 +/- 0.4 to 5.3 +/- 0.6) or F ingestion (5.4 +/- 0.5 to 5.1 +/- 0.4). Decreases in plasma insulin concentration (microU/ml) were greater (P less than 0.05) with W (11 +/- 3 to 3 +/- 1) and F (12 +/- 4 to 5 +/- 1) than with G ingestion (11 +/- 2 to 9 +/- 5), and fat utilization was greater with F (103 +/- 11 g) than with G ingestion (82 +/- 9 g) and lower than with W ingestion (132 +/- 14 g). However F was less readily available for combustion than G; over the 3-h period 75% (106 +/- 11 g) of ingested G was oxidized, compared with 56% (79 +/- 8 g) of ingested fructose. As a consequence, carbohydrate store utilizations were similar in the two conditions (G, 174 +/- 20 g; F, 173 +/- 17 g; vs. W, 193 +/- 22 g). These observations suggest that, during prolonged moderate exercise, F ingestion maintains blood glucose as well as G ingestion, and increases fat utilization when compared to G ingestion. However, due to a slower rate of utilization of F, carbohydrate store sparing is similar with G and F ingestions.

Abstract:
In the Book of Daniel human kingdoms are presented in the context of bistory, especially in the four-kingdom schema (Dan 2 and 7) which depicts the rise and fali of kings and kingdoms. The theme of Dan 1-6 is that human kingdoms are transitory. Gentile kings bring about their downfali by arrogance and idolatry (i.e. Dan 5). The ultimate kingdom will be set up by God. In the Book o f Daniel the kingdom o f G od provides the frame for human bistory. In the end God will establish his kingdom, but for the time being He bas given dominion over the earth to worldly kings. From this perspective, earthly monarchs must recognize God as a sovereign over human kingdoms. If pagan kings do it, the kingdom is restored to them (i.e. Dan 4); if they refuse, the royal power is taken away from them (i.e. Dan 5). In the apocalyptic visions (Dan 8-12) this situation is completely different. Human kingdoms revolt against God. Ali visions contain a review of history prior to Antiochus Epiphanes, focus on his career and predict his fali caused by divine power. Antiochus Epiphanes is portrayed as a symbol o f evil because o f his rebelii on against God, revealed in the desecration of the tempie and the persecution o f the faithful Jewś. As a result, pagan kings and kingdoms will be annihilated and God will show his power.

The origin and evolution of contact (W UMa) binaries are discussed with the help of the braking law of eq.(1). Best observationally justified parameter-values in (1) for W UMa, CV and LMXB binaries are: α ≈ 1.5, γ = 2 and f computed from eq.(2). A semi-empirical relation (eq.(5)) between the scaled magnetic torque and the fractional X-ray luminosity is proposed. First attempts of simultaneous photometric and spectroscopic surface imaging of contact binaries are described.

Wansbrough, Aleksandr Andreas. "Lars Von Trier as Tragedian." Thesis, The University of Sydney, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/2123/15327.

Full text
Abstract:
Lars von Trier’s films have overarching metaphysical themes that are associated with Greek tragedy. German Idealist and Romantic philosophers from F.W.J. Schelling to Friedrich Nietzsche extracted key themes from Greek tragedy such as fate, freedom and nature; the very themes that form a coherent thread through von Trier’s oeuvre. This thesis explores von Trier’s films through the lens of the tragic for two reasons. First, the exploration contributes to an understanding of themes that run throughout von Trier’s oeuvre. Second, such an approach allows us to understand tragedy as having a contemporary relevance, viewing it as both a surviving and evolving art form. Such a position is controversial because many thinkers have long discussed the death of tragedy. According to some philosophers—the very philosophers that delineated tragedy’s themes—there has been a decline in metaphysical understandings of the human agent’s relationship to the world that has contributed to the decline of the tragic. There are also other reasons for the view that the creation of tragedies ceases in modernity. Christian metaphysics and ethics, secularised in the contemporary West, have been judged by the likes of Nietzsche to be incompatible with the tragic as tragedy takes us beyond moral frameworks. There are also artistic challenges to the tragic. After the horrors of the twentieth century’s genocides, tragedy seems inadequate as a means to examine human cruelty and suffering. Moreover, other modes of drama such as comedy and melodrama are genres that supposedly blunt tragedy and have come to replace tragedy. Von Trier’s films engage with these challenges to tragedy, his films explore the themes of the Holocaust, Christian ideals, comedy and melodrama. By showing that von Trier’s films manifest the tragic, tragedy is revealed to be able to engage with contemporary concerns.

Abstract:
Abstract Beams formed by long fiber composite materials have certain internal damping torque. A mathematical model for the displacement of this type of beams in cantilever configuration is the following initial-boundary value problem of an integro-differential equation [1, 14]: (1) ρ ( x ) w t t ( x , t ) − 2 ( ∫ 0 L h ( x , y ) [ w t x ( x , t ) − w t x ( y , t ) ] d y ) x + ( E I w x x ( x , t ) ) x x = f ( x , t ) , (2) w ( 0 , t ) = 0 , w x ( 0 , t ) = 0 , (3) w x x ( L , t ) = b l 1 ( t ) , (4) − ( E I w x x ( x , t ) ) x | x = L + 2 ∫ 0 L h ( L , y ) [ w t x ( L , t ) − w t x ( y , t ) ] d y = b l 2 ( t ) , (5) w ( x , 0 ) = w 0 ( x ) , w t ( x , 0 ) = w 1 ( x ) , where L is length of the beam, w(x, t) is the transverse displacement of the beam at time t and position x, ρ(x) is the mass density, EI is the stiffness parameter. The interaction integral kernel h(x, ξ) is introduced in this model by considering a restoring torque which comes from spatially variable bending of the beam. This kernel h(x, ξ) depends on the material properties of the beam. Choosing a different material (different h(x, ξ)) can realize a different damping effect for the beam.

Abstract:
The authors of the article analyze the view of the World-system of I. Wallerstein, the F. Fukuyama concept of the “end of history” and the W. Beck concept of globalization. The authors focus not only on the concept and essence of globalization, but also on the problem of opposition of modern nation states to globalization processes that negatively affect the statehood and culture of sovereign states. The process of globalization is objective, but the loss of the country's sovereignty threatens to destroy its original culture. The authors show that globalization also carries threats that must be neutralized if we want to survive as a country and as a people. These are threats associated with the widespread dissemination of Western values (Westernization), models of upbringing and education, with Western sanctions against Russia. The neoliberal reforms of the 90s brought our country to its knees. Over the past twenty years, something has been corrected. The authors show that in the current situation it is necessary to make efforts to ensure the sovereignty and defense of the country, its economic growth and protection of the original values of our civilization.

Abstract:
Abstract Developing high-performance environmentally friendly drilling fluids is always a requirement by oil and gas operators to reduce the waste management associated cost with the drilling fluid treatment and disposal. Conventional water-based drilling fluid is formulated with the brine-based polymer which consists of sodium and potassium chloride salts to improve the performance of the polymer and also providing clay inhibition in reactive clay and shale. This paper describes the development of nanotechnology-based drilling fluid to replace salt from the conventional application. Nano Based Low Saline Water Based Mud (NBLS-WBM) was formulated and developed based on laboratory experiments. Different nano additives with different concentrations were evaluated and the optimum concentration was selected to reduce the sodium and potassium chloride salts concentration to almost zero. The rheological properties and fluid loss were measured according to the API standard before and after hot rolling. Also, HPHT fluid loss, lubricity, and shale inhibition were evaluated. All the results were compared with sodium salt-saturated and potassium-based polymer muds. Laboratory evaluation of NBLS-WBM indicated that sodium salt concentration can be reduced considerably up to 5% W/V and potassium chloride can be eliminated by adding 1% W/W of nano additive. The rheological properties including plastic viscosity and yield point were constant and stable after hot rolling 16 hours at 250 °F. Also, Clay inhibition improved significantly up to 95% recovery comparing with conventional water-based polymer mud. Although the application of nanotechnology to improve the performance of conventional water-based drilling fluid was studied by many researchers, it is the novelty of this research to reduce the salt concentration and remove it to develop the new generation of salt-free water-based drilling fluid with economical consideration and lower environmental impact.

Abstract:
This article develops low cost moiré deflectometry for two-dimensional temperature measurement in free boundary environment. Experimental setup uses a red monochrome LED lamp with wavelength range of 625–635 nm as light source. In process, the light first runs through the convex lens and then propagates to the parabolic mirror with diameter of 406 mm and f/4.5 for generating the parallel light. The parallel light further propagates to test object and through two gratings with both pitch 254 lpi which are printed by laser printer. Behind the two gratings, a CCD camera is applied to capture the image, the distorted fringes. Based on the moiré deflectometry theory, the two-dimensional temperature distribution in free boundary environment can be determined in terms of the captured fringe shift analysis. This work has successfully measured the two-dimensional temperature distribution in free boundary environment with heat source models of 40–95 °C vertical wall, 60 W light bulb, and burning candle flame. The measured temperature deviations between moiré deflectometry and thermocouple thermometer are all less than 5%.

Abstract:
In prior work an effective medium approach (EMA) has been developed to evaluate composite physical properties such as thermal conductivity, dielectric function or elastic modulus (C.-W. Nan, Prog. Mat. Sci. V. 37, 1993). This model combined with the Kapitza interface resistance can predict the effective thermal conductivity of randomly dispersed long fibers for a very low volume fraction (f < 0.01). The present study compares finite-element (FEA) computations and the EMA model for CNT-matrix compositions with low to moderate volume fractions, 0.001 to 0.02. The FEA results obtained show that the EMA model underestimates the effective thermal conductivity of the composite when the particles are very close to each other, even for small particle volume fractions. For aligned fibers the Kaptiza resistance cannot be neglected in the longitudinal direction. This paper proposes a general correction function for the dependence on particle to particle interaction based on the near neighbor distances and the number of near neighbors. This correction function reduces the EMA under prediction to within several percent (< 5%) in most cases.

Abstract:
Waste-heat recovery applied in HVAC air systems is of interest to increase the energy efficiency of residential, commercial and industrial buildings. In this study, the feasibility of using tubular-shaped oscillating heat pipes (OHPs), which are two-phase heat transfer devices with ultra-high thermal conductivity, for heat exchange between counter-flowing air streams (i.e., outdoor and exhaust air flows) was investigated. For a prescribed volumetric flow rate of air and duct geometry, four different OHP Heat Exchangers (OHP-HEs) were sized via the ε-NTU method for the task of sub-cooling intake air 5.5 °C (10 °F). The OHP-HE tubes were assumed to have a static thermal conductivity of 50,000 W/m·K and only operate upon a minimum temperature difference in order to simulate their inherent heat transport capability and start-up behavior. Using acetone as the working fluid, it was found that for a maximum temperature difference of 7°C or more, the OHP-HE can operate and provide for an effectiveness of 0.36. Pressure drop analysis indicates the presented OHP-HE design configurations provide for a minimum of 5 kPa. The current work provides a necessary step for quantifying and designing the OHP for waste heat recovery in AC systems.

When the documentary bases are photographs it is possible to carefully model the recorded elements using photogrammetry techniques based on 3D primitives, so that by means of an immersive navigation limited to certain points of view, an appearance of acceptable tridimensionality is obtained, where only isolated images of dispersed frames are available. The virtual recreation can be completed increasing its realistic appearance through its edition with animations of objects (for example, carriages) and characters, texts, musical setting, etc. The results can be presented in formats such as video or navigation through virtual reality helmets. From a selection of the first historical photographs of the Plaza de la Virgen, that we have obtained searching in several documentary sources, our multidisciplinary team is interested in a reliable, realistic and pleasant presentation of the urban environment of one of the most representative places in the city of Valencia, whose spatial configuration has changed significantly over the years.
