HNF1A-MODY is the most common form of monogenic diabetes, but due to low awareness among clinicians and limited availability of genetic testing in many countries, the majority of cases are misdiagnosed as type 1 or type 2 diabetes. In clinical practice, it is apparent that some young adults with non-autoimmune diabetes share several features of MODY and type 2 diabetes. Hence, I aimed to understand the range of genetic variation in HNF1A in this group and whether we could use biomarkers to help identify those with HNF1A alleles likely to be influencing their diabetes status. Sea ice is salt-water ice which forms at the poles when the oceans solidify, and it plays a vital role in polar climate and ecosystems. In particular, the salt fluxes from growing sea ice are a major contributor to the cold halocline in the Arctic, and to the Arctic and Southern Ocean circulations more generally. Sea ice is not a pure solid - it has a microstructure of solid ice crystals and concentrated brine, known as a mushy layer. Segregation occurring during solidification means that the colder interstitial fluid closer to the ice surface also has a larger salinity than the warmer, freshe

It argues that there is a need for rebalancing subsidiarity and supranationality, but that the assignment of tasks and the "optimal" degree of centralization has to be judged on a case-by-case basis, differentiated by policy area. I argue that privacy is not a recent cultural product, but rather a need buried deep in our evolutionary and human history. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to conceptual issues. Chapter Two clarifies the relation between privacy and the public and private divide. I argue against the popula
