Abstract:
The gravity map of Ouaddai in the eastern region of Chad exhibits important anomalies that are often delimitated by the high gravity gradients, resulting from the density contrasts between various anomaly sources. This presumes an important tectonic activity in zone. Because of its arid and desert nature, the region is water-poor or even lacking water resources. The main source of water in the region is made of very deep aquifers. The gravity analysis from this study helps to better understand the network of faults in the area. Many complementary approaches of the gravity data processing have been applied, namely the horizontal gradient coupled to the upward and downward continuation and the Euler method. Results from the data filtring have allowed highlighting faults network in various directions (SSW-NNE S-N E-W, NE-SW) and the main direction. In total, 37 major faults were detected with various lengths including 11 (F6, F9, F10, F12, F17, F29, F31, F34, F35, F37) for a cumulative total length of 353 km oriented towards Bongor basin and 15 others (F1, F4, F7, F8, F11, F13, F18, F20, F23, F25, F26, F27, F28, F30, F33), for a cumulative total length of 621 km, oriented towards Doba basin. These faults are of paramount importance with great potential impacts on the regions hydrocarbon reservoirs. Thise results in one hand confirmed some known faults from the previous investigations. In the other hand, the study helps to identify other new and unknown tectonic signatures.

Abstract:
Participation in military operations causes high incidence of psychogenic disorders, which can be the reason for psychosis. Assessment of the structure, features of formation, manifestation, symptoms of psychotic disorders in combatants will contribute to the development of appropriate measures for their psychoprophylaxis and treatment.Purpose. To study the clinical symptoms of psychotic disorders of combatants.Material and methods. 64 medical histories of combatants, who suffered from psychosis and were treated in psychiatric hospitals, were analyzed. According to the medical records, the following was studied: the structure of psychotic disorders, the symptoms during hospitalization. The obtained data were processed according to the criterion χ2.Results. The analysis of 64 medical cases showed that the majority of combatants, who were treated at psychiatric hospitals, had the following diseases: schizophrenia (F20) – 28 persons, schizotypical disorders (F21) – 4 persons, acute and transient psychotic disorders (F23) – 25 persons, schizoaffective disorders (F25) – 7 persons. In 38 (59.4%) patients, there was the situation when psychiatric disorders began acutely after some trauma, while in the rest of the persons, their mental disorders gradually increased, which excluded their further military service. Thinking disorders, delusional ideas, and inadequate affect predominated in the structure of psychopathological symptoms. The manifestations of delusional disorders and affective reactions were associated with military operations, injuries and fatalities of some combatants (47 combatants (73.4%)). Certain symptoms comorbid to psychotic disorders and advanced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) before the beginning of treatment took place in 52 patients (81.3%).Conclusion. Analysis of the prevalence and structure of psychotic disorders in combatants using the medical records was carried out. The following was studied: nosological spectrum, manifestation of psychosis, detailed comparative analysis of clinical symptoms in the most common psychoses (schizophrenia (F20) and acute and transient psychotic disorders (F23)).

Abstract:
ObjectiveThis study sought to explore the views and experiences of a group of people with severe mental disorders (SMDs) who performed volunteer services.DesignA qualitative phenomenological study.SettingCommunity public mental health services of the Community of Madrid and the province of Barcelona (Spain).ParticipantsPurposive sampling techniques were used between September 2016 and April 2017. The inclusion criteria were: individuals aged 18–65 years who participated in volunteer activities during the performance of this study, based on the regulations of volunteer services in Spain and the community of Madrid; a diagnosis of non-organic psychotic disorder (F20.x, F21, F22, F24, F25, F28, F29, F31.x, F32.3 and F33) according to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision; an evolution of ≥2 years; and a moderate to severe dysfunction of global functioning with scores ≤70 in the Global Assessment of Functioning Scale. Ultimately, 23 people with SMD participated in the study with a mean age of 47 years (SD 8.23).MethodsData were collected through in-depth interviews and researcher field notes. A thematic analysis was performed following appropriate guidelines for qualitative research.ResultsTwo main themes emerged to describe the experience of participating in volunteer activities: (1) rebuilding self-identity, based on the participant’s experience of volunteering, of acquiring a new role and a new perceived identity that made them feel valued and respected; and (2) being a so-called normal person with a ‘normal’ life, based on recovering a sense of normality, unmarked by the illness, thanks to daily responsibilities and occupations.ConclusionsQualitative research offers insight into the way people with SMD experience volunteering and may help to improve understanding of the underlying motivations that drive these individuals. These findings may be applied to improve guidance during their process of recovery and subsequent inclusion into society.

The Bianchi type V magnetized string dust cosmological model for perfect fluid distribution is investigated. We assume that the magnetic field is along the x direction, so F23 is the only nonvanishing component of Fij. We also find that F14 = 0 = F24 = F34 due to the assumption of infinite electrical conductivity. The behavior of the model in the presence and the absence of a magnetic field is also discussed.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the resistance of a group of clones and cultivars from the potato breeding program of Embrapa to Meloidogyne javanica. The experiment was conducted at Embrapa Temperate Climate, Pelotas / RS, under greenhouse conditions at temperatures of 25 ± 5°C. Individual potato plants of different genotypes [BRSIPR Bel, BRS F63 (Camila), CL02-05, F23-11-06, F32-02-06, F38-03-07, F189-09-06, F23-24-06 and F22-01-08], kept in pots with sterilized soil were inoculated with 5,000 eggs and J2 of M. javanica, using six replicates per treatment. The susceptible control, potato cultivar BRS Ana was inoculated with the same level of inoculum. Fifty-five days after inoculation, the number of galls on the roots of each plant was determined as well as the number of protuberances caused by nematodes in the different treatments. Then, the roots of each plant were processed for counting the number of eggs and J2, as well as determining the nematode reproduction factor (FR: final population / initial population). All genotypes were susceptible (FR> 1.00) to M. javanica. However, there were different levels of susceptibility among the cultivars tested.

Abstract:
This report describes a preliminary characterization of proteolytic activity of proteins isolated from lysate of Giardia trophozoites of an axenic Brazilian strain. Fractions obtained by high-performance liquid chromatography (FPLC) were tested in SDS-polyacrylamide gel for the protein profiles, and the proteases activity was analyzed using gelatin impregnated SDS-PAGE. The proteases characterization was based on inhibition assays employing synthetic inhibitors for cysteine (E-64, IAA), serine (PMSF, TPCK, TLCK, and elastatinal), metalo (EDTA) and aspartic (pepstatin) proteases. Among thirty eluted fractions, polypeptide bands were observed in eight of them, however, proteolytic activity was detected in four ones (F23, F24, F25 and F26). Protein profiles of these fractions showed a banding pattern composed by few bands distributed in the migration region of 45 to < 18 kDa. The zymograms revealed proteolytic activity in all the four fractions assayed, mainly distributed in the migration region of 62 to 35 kDa. Among the profiles, the main pronounced zones of proteolysis were distinguished at 62, 55, 53, 50, 46 and 40 kDa. In inhibition assays, the protease activities were significantly inhibited by cysteine (E-64) and serine proteases (TPCK, TLCK and elastatinal) inhibitors. Gels incubated with other cysteine and serine protease inhibitors, IAA and PMSF, respectively, showed a decrease in the intensity of hydrolysis zones. Indeed, in the assays with the inhibitors EDTA for metalloproteases and pepstatin for aspartic proteases, none inhibition was detected against the substrate. These observations are relevants, especially if we consider that to define the real role of the proteases in host-parasite interaction, the purification of these enzymes for detailed studies may be warranted.

Using simulations from a multi-country neoclassical growth model, we analyze several post-Brexit scenarios. First, the United Kingdom unilaterally imposes tighter restrictions on FDI and trade from other EU nations. Second, the European Uunion retaliates and imposes the same restrictions on the United Kingdom. Finally, the United Kingdom reduces restrictions on other nations during the post-Brexit transition. Model predictions depend crucially on the policy response of multinationals’ investment in technology capital, accumulated know-how from investments in R&D, brands, and organizations used simultaneously in their domestic and foreign operations. We estimate the price effect of US import restrictions on washers. The 2012 and 2016 antidumping duties against South Korea and China were accompanied by downward or minor price movements along with production relocation to other export platform countries. With the 2018 tariffs, on nearly all source countries, the price of washers increased nearly 12 percent. Interestingly, the price of dryers—not subject to tariffs—increased by an equivalent amount. Factoring in dryer prices and price increases by domestic brands, the 2018 tariffs on washers imply a tariff elasticity of consumer prices of above one. (JEL F13, F14, F23, L68, 019, P33)

Abstract:
Although the positive socio-economic effects of remittances for recipient countries in the short term are unmistakable, inflows of remittances may at the same time exert adverse effects on the trade competitiveness of an economy, by appreciating the real exchange rate. This phenomenon is characterised as an instance of the ‘Dutch disease’ – the negative impact of windfall revenue inflows on the competitiveness of other tradable sectors and hence on overall economic growth. While the real effect of workers’ remittances on real exchange rates in a recipient economy is still a controversial issue, several studies have analysed evidence for the existence of the ‘Dutch disease’ phenomenon in various sets of countries. The main objective of this study is to examine whether remittance flows have had any adverse effect on the international trade competitiveness of a selected group of developing countries during the period from 1995 to 2014. Using a one-step system Generalised Method of Moments specification within a simultaneous equation approach, it shows that remittance flows depreciate the real exchange rate at their levels and that the lagged value of remittances create the Dutch disease for this country group. In addition, we confirm that while trade openness and world real interest rates contribute to a depreciation in real exchange rates, gross domestic product per capita and net Official Development Aid inflows tend to appreciate real exchange rates. A policy implication is that trade liberalisation policies that lower tariff rates on capital imports and new export-oriented incentive programmes should be accompanied by measures designed to prevent appreciation in the real exchange rate: steps in this direction such as recent macroeconomic and prudential capital flow management initiatives are briefly referenced. Abstract:
The works purpose was to study connection between smell malfunction that reduces level of smell recognition (anosmia) and current emotional condition of patients who suffer from schizophrenia spectrum disorders and patients with depressive disorders. Methods of research. Patients who suffer from schizophrenia spectrum disorders (F20, F21, F23, F25), depressive disorders (F32, F33), and healthy individuals were examined. Methods of evaluation of current emotional condition were Beck Depression Inventory and SnaithHamilton Pleasure Scale. To determine malfunction of smell function Professional olfactometric set of odorous substances RAMORA was used. Results. In patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, the level of smell recognition is significantly lower than in the group of patients suffering from depressive disorders and the group of healthy people. When comparing patients with depressive disorders with a group of healthy individuals, there is a slight decrease in the identification of odors, close to normal values. In patients with depressive disorders and patients with schizophrenia, an increase in the level of anhedonia and depression is detected in comparison with healthy subjects. The overall level of smell recognition is not related to the indicators of the current emotional state (depression and anhedonia) in both clinical groups. However, the relationships between the identification of individual odorants and the actual emotional state in the group of patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders were revealed. Conclusions. A decrease in the level of odor identification (anosmia) is observed in patients with schizophrenia spectrum. These disorders are not typical for patients with depressive disorders and people who do not suffer from mental illness. The obtained results require additional research. It can be assumed that the indicators of olfactory processes can be an additional diagnostic method of the emotional and personal sphere of patients with the schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

Recent decades have witnessed a surge of trade in intermediate goods and a proliferation of free trade agreements (FTAs). FTAs use rules of origin (RoO) to distinguish goods originating from member countries from those originating from third countries. We focus on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the world’s largest FTA, and construct a unique dataset that allows us to map the input-output linkages in its RoO. Exploiting cross-product and cross-country variation in treatment over time, we show that NAFTA RoO led to a sizable reduction in imports of intermediate goods from third countries relative to NAFTA partners. Following the 2016 Leave vote in the referendum on UK membership in the EU and the election of Donald Trump, trade agreements have entered a period of great instability. To predict the impact of possible disruptions to existing arrangements requires counterfactual analysis that takes into account the complex set of factors influencing the production and marketing strategies of multinational corporations. We estimate a model of multinational decision-making in the car industry. This model predicts the production reallocation and consumer surplus consequences of changes in tariffs and non-tariff barriers induced by US-led protectionism, Brexit, transpacific, and transatlantic integration agreements. Abstract:
In recent decades, U.S. foreign trade grew much faster than GDP, but there is no consensus why. Notably lacking is an understanding of the role of multinational corporations (MNCs), which mediate over half of world trade. We use Bureau of Economic Analysis data on U.S. MNCs to study the rapid growth of MNC-based trade from 1983 to 1996. Using a model of U.S. MNCs and Canadian affiliates, we decompose this growth by source. Tariff reductions can largely explain increases in arms-length MNC-based trade. But intra-firm trade growth is attributed mostly to “technical change.” We present additional evidence suggesting just-in-time production facilitated intra-firm trade. (JEL F13, F14, F23)

Abstract:
We study the effect of top tax rates on “superstar” inventors' international mobility since 1977, using panel data on inventors from the US and European Patent Offices. We exploit the differential impact of changes in top tax rates on inventors of different qualities. Superstar inventors' location choices are significantly affected by top tax rates. In our preferred specification, the elasticity to the net-of-tax rate of the number of domestic superstar inventors is around 0.03, while that of foreign superstar inventors is around 1. These elasticities are larger for inventors in multinational companies. An inventor is less sensitive to taxes in a country if his company performs a higher share of its research there. Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to estimate combining ability of 58 sorghum lines previously selected for Aluminum (Al) tolerance. One hundred sixty-five hybrids were evaluated at three levels of Al saturation (0%, 20% and 50%) at the same season. General Combining Ability (GCA) effects were significant for female lines for all three traits. GCA effects for male lines were significant only for plant height. Specific Combining Ability (SCA) effects were significant only for flowering time. The ratio GCA to SCA was greater than the unity, indicating the prevalence of additive effects for the control of Al tolerance. F7, F14, F17, F20, F21, F24, F29, F31, F41, F42, F48, F51, F54 and F55 lines contributed to increase yield, while F29, F48 and F51 also contributed to reduce flowering time. M2 was the best male line since it contributed to increase yield and plant height, and to reduce flowering time.

Abstract:
Which policies are protectionist and which ones are not? The Lerner Symmetry Theorem establishes that import tariffs and export taxes are equally protectionist. In this paper we provide a modern treatment of this classical result, highlighting the importance of multinational firms, global imbalances, and imperfect competition. Under perfect competition, the result follows from the separability of consumption and production across countries, ruling out tourism and some forms of multinational firms, but not others. Though we do not require trade balance, the role of initial assets is subtle: our result rules out foreign ownership of domestic assets, but does not constrain domestic ownership of foreign assets. Under imperfect competition, our result effectively rules out all multinational firms. We conclude by discussing the implications for border adjustment taxes. (JEL D41, D43, F13, F14, F23)

Abstract:
Based on the controversy surrounding the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow from one country to another and the suggestion that inflow of FDI might be a result of countries’ locations, this study therefore revisits the determinants of FDI and economic growth by testing for the roles of country’s location in the determination of the inflow of FDI to Nigeria. Unlike other studies, this study finds that countries’ locations do not play any significant role in determining FDI inflow to Nigeria. The study, therefore, employs fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) to examine the determinants of FDI in Nigeria. The FMOLS results show that FDI, manufacturing sector, tax revenue, financial development, health expenditure, net trade and human capital have a positive relationship with income growth. These results were statistically significant except for tax revenue, net trade and human capital. These results support the argument that these variables are important determinants of economic growth. The article also finds a negative and statistically significant relationship among FDI, income growth, import and capital formation. These results are in conformity with economic theory in the sense that import of goods and services constitutes a leakage in the economy. Negative impact of capital formation and security could be associated with the prevailing high level of corruption, sharing of security votes and misappropriation of funds among the public officials in Nigeria. Abstract:
Introduction. Attitude about physical restriction has been changing through history. It has always been multidimensional approach, including ethic, medical and judicial aspect. Objective. The main aim was establishing distribution of physical restrictions of patients for the following years: 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11. Methods. The research included patients that were hospitalized in the Special Hospital for Psychiatric Disorders ?Dr. Laza Lazarevic? in Belgrade from June 1, 2006 to June 1, 2011. Retrospective review of illness history of hospitalized female patients was done (350 in total) and records were formed containing data on physically restrained patients. Results. The largest number of referral diagnoses belonged to groups F20, F23 and F29; it was established that the number of physical restrictions was associated with referral diagnoses on the level of highly statistically significant difference (p<0.001). The average number of restrainees per hospitalized patient which was growing in the studied period, which was also shown by the trend line (y=0.5x+1.06; R2=0.7242). Conclusion. Physical restrictions of psychiatric patients must backed up by benevolence, and it is not by any means the doctor?s arbitrariness, which is strongly criticized and represents breach of ethical norms, human rights and the rights of the patient as guaranteed by law. This topic, which, indeed, refers to modern psychiatry, deserves more attention by public discussions, as well as by legislative regulations.

Abstract:
Structural interpretation of 3-D seismic data and well log have been applied to unravel hydrocarbon entrapment pattern and petrophysical parameters of X-field within the coastal swamp region of the Niger Delta.. Four reservoir intervals (A, B, C and D) delineated as (W-026, 032, 042 and 048) using gamma ray and resistivity log response. Structural interpretation for inline 5158 revealed four horizons (A, B, C and D) and eight (8) faults labelled (F1, F2, F12, F13, F21, F22, F23, and F24) were mapped. It was observed that the hanging wall block due to reverse drag or rollover anticline slided over fault F12 and created fault F2, thereby creating subsidence where sediments can be deposited. Therefore, faults F2 and F12 created rollover structures which cuts across the entire four reservoirs and invaluably responsible for trapping of hydrocarbon in the field. RMS map developed for horizons ‘A’ and ‘B’ revealed high amplitude anomalies, while variance attribute for both horizons showed relatively uniform lithology observed from east to west across the study area. While from north-east to south west, variance was observed to increase relatively which indicates different lithology. These trend exposes dipping of the channel fill at both flanks by creating extensive faulting. Results of petrophysical evaluation for reservoirs ‘A’ and ‘B’ across the four wells were analyzed. For reservoir ‘A’, porosity values of 32.8%, 24.8%, 25.9% and 27.1% were obtained for wells W-048, 042, 026 and 032 respectively with an average of 27.65%, while for reservoir ‘B’ porosity values of 26.83%, 26.93%, 25.59% and 27.99% for wells W-048, 042, 026 and 032 were obtained respectively with an average of 26.84%. This porosity values were rated very good to excellent for reservoir ‘A’ and very good for reservoir ‘B’, while Permeability values of the order (K > 1000mD) were obtained for both reservoirs across the four wells and is rated excellent. Hydrocarbon saturation (Shc) across the four wells averages at 68.57% for reservoir ‘A’ and 68.67% for reservoir ‘B’ which is high. Log motifs using gamma ray log for well-026 was integrated with seismic facies to infer on depositional environment of the reservoirs horizons showed a combination of serrated funnel/blocky shape log response and coarsening upward cycles. For reservoirs ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ the log shape pattern indicates deposition in a fluvial / tidal, channel environment while for reservoir ‘D’ the pattern indicates deposition in deltaic front environment. Isochore maps computed for horizons ‘A’ and ‘B’, shows that horizon ‘A’ is relatively thick and this pattern suggests increased tectonic activities during deposition of reservoir ‘A’ and is an indication that reservoir ‘A’ is a synrift deposit. Abstract:
This study examines the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the total factor productivity (TFP) of host countries. Extensions of the new growth theory provide a framework in which FDI increases the growth rate of a host country through technology transfer, diffusion and spillover effects. We construct four new series of TFP using the framework of neoclassical growth models. We also address the issue of endogeneity using the generalized method of moments. Our estimations using a balanced panel of 77 low- and middle-income countries suggest that FDI could not promote TFP in the countries studied. Our sensitivity analysis, in terms of alternative estimation methods, data, models and time period, reinforces the findings. We observe that the lack of absorptive capacity is likely to be an important reason for not having a direct relationship between FDI and TFP. JEL Classification: F21, F23, O33, F43, C33

Abstract:
With primary considerations such as trade and investment openness becoming similar for many economies due to globalization, the role of other factors such as institutional environment in promoting investment has captured increasing attention in recent times. In view of the growing importance of Asia as a prospective foreign direct investment (FDI) destination, we employ panel data regression data for 16 Asian economies over the period 2000–2012 to study if institutional quality affects FDI flows and stocks and whether it can act as a differentiator while selecting a location within Asia. Among the institutional variables employed, ‘political stability and absence of violence/terrorism’ were found to be significant determinants revealing the importance of a stable and safe political environment for FDI. However, ‘corruption’ and ‘regulatory inefficiency’ were found to affect FDI inflows positively, indicating the preference of foreign investors for a system where laws can be circumvented easily through corrupt bureaucracy and where regulations are weak or less stringent. Abstract:
Abstract Data from 311 selfed families isolated from four generations (F8, F13, F23, F45) of an experimental barley population were analyzed to determine patterns of change in character expression for seven quantitative traits, and in single-locus allelic frequencies, and multilocus genetic structure, for 16 Mendelian loci that code for discretely recognizable variants. The analyses showed that large changes in single-locus allelic frequencies and major reorganizations in multilocus genetic structure occurred in each of the generation-to-generation transitions examined. Although associations among a few traits persisted over generations, dynamic dissociations and reassociations occurred among several traits in each generation-transition period. Overall, the restructuring that occurred was characterized by gradual decreases in the number of clusters of associated traits and increases in the number of traits within each cluster. The observed changes in single-locus frequencies and in multilocus genetic structure were attributed to interplay among various evolutionary factors among which natural selection acting in a temporally heterogeneous environment was the guiding force.

Abstract:
AbstractThe rhizosphere is one of the most important reservoirs of microorganisms. Because of the microbial metabolic activities, these can be used for various biotechnological, agricultural and environmental purposes. In this study we evaluated five genetically related bacterial strains; Pseudomonas aeruginosa N7B1 (MG457074), Pseudomonas sp. (MG457075), Pseudomonas sp., Bf1 (MG457076) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa F23 (MG457077), isolated from Jatropha curcas rhizosphere, capable of growing and degradating benzene and phenanthrene. The hydrocarbon degradation by these strains was quantified by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrophotometry. The Pseudomonas aeruginosa N7B1 strain removed 84% of phenanthrene and 45% of benzene in a seven-day period, while the other strains showed a lower hydrocarbon degradation capacity. Another biotechno-logical feature of these strains is maize growth promotion, in a substrate enriched with 0.5% of phenanthrene and 1.0% of benzene. Pseudomonas aeruginosa N7B1 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa F23 showed an increase in root and shoot fresh and dry weight, plant height and root length variables. These results open the possible use of these strains as bioinoculants to promote the growth of maize plants in phenanthrene and benzene polluted soils.

Abstract:
We document a triangular relationship in that a stronger dollar goes hand in hand with larger deviations from covered interest parity (CIP) and contractions of cross-border bank lending in dollars. We argue that underpinning the triangle is the role of the dollar as a key barometer of risk-taking capacity in global capital markets. (JEL F23, F31, G15, G21)

Abstract:
This article examines whether large inflows of foreign direct investment (FDI) behave differently from smaller inflows in a sample of 56 developing countries for the period 1990–2017. We use the quantile regression method to investigate whether the responsiveness of FDI inflows to various push and pull factors differs across the conditional distribution of the former. Our results show that the magnitudes of the coefficients are significantly different across quantiles of FDI inflows for a number of covariates. That is to say, the coefficients are significantly larger for the upper quantiles compared to the lower ones. The interquantile regressions, which estimate the quantile differences, confirm the finding that large FDI inflows are more responsive to their covariates than smaller inflows. Our results suggest that large inflows of FDI are indeed different, both quantitatively and qualitatively, from smaller inflows. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the causes of large and smaller inflows separately for a better understanding of the determinants of FDI inflows to developing countries. Abstract:
This article explores the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in oil-dependent economies and revisits the role of natural resources in attracting FDI to countries of this kind. Panel data from the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, namely Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have been employed, covering the period from 1990 to 2015. First, we investigate the FDI determinants during the entire sample period, and then run another investigation starting from the beginning of 2000, when the FDI in the GCC region increased substantially. The results show that there is a positive nexus between market growth, trade openness, inflation, infrastructure, oil price and FDI. Interestingly, oil reserves have a negative impact on FDI; this may be because countries with large reserves of oil like the GCC countries have enough financial resources to finance their economic development. This leads these governments to set up restrictions to protect their resources, thus reducing the amount of resource-seeking FDI. JEL Codes: E22, F21, F23, F43, O13

Abstract:
The study investigated the effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on economic growth in Nigeria, which is currently Africa’s largest economy, and also determined the long-run relationship between FDI and economic growth in Nigeria from 1981 to 2017. The study adopted the autoregressive distributed lag modelling approach and ordinary least square in the analysis. The empirical results revealed that FDI has a positive and significant relationship with economic growth in Nigeria within the period under review. The study concluded and recommended that Nigerian Government should formulate policies that will attract more FDI in all sectors of the economy especially in the service and manufacturing sectors, so as to improve the infrastructural facilities and production of goods in the country and also expand its labour force. Finally, there is need to improve the educational policy of the country in order to raise the stock of human capital in the country that will make useful policies for the attraction for productive FDIs in the country.
