The increasing of using precast concrete panels, lack of standardization, lack of studies on precast concrete panels and its connections devices on Brazil, has led to the need of manual and design criteria of precast concrete panel connections. Although the designers and precast concrete panel manufacturers is using foreign standards when its available and their empirical knowledge on the specification and connections design criteria, the lack of manuals become hard to find solutions that provide easiness of precast concrete panel s employment. Connections are fundamental part of the precast structures. For the building assembly are necessary linking devices which influences the production process, the efficiency of casting, storage, transport, handling and especially in the assembly on site. This work presents the concept, technical features and functions of main types of spandrel panel connections and the main structure of building, and identifies typical connections and the general design recommendation. This report purpose the put in connection as a new classification of connection type.

Abstract:
The arquitectural precast concrete panel technology has frequently been used because of its probability of increasing the industrialization levels of the building process and also improve the building product quality. On the other hand, mostly in Brasil, there are no rules ou manual books which guide the utilization of this technology. In addition, this works aims to raise the knowledge about the arquitectural precast concrete panel used as cladding (APCP-PPAC in Portuguese). Therefore, this works presents some factors that must be considered in designs of building facades, using this kind of technology. After the analysis of one study case using APCP, it was concluded that APCP technology has a great potential of increasing the industrialization levels of the building process, if its designs are done as soon as possible and if its performance and interfaces are considered.

Abstract:
Abstract
This thesis deals with the numerical investigation of the upper section of a building-integrated photovoltaic/thermal double-façade. The upper section consists of an airflow window with a between-the-panes roller blind. The purpose of this thesis is to develop and validate a numerical model in order to optimize the design of the system. The lower section, which consists of building-integrated photovoltaics, has already been modelled at Concordia University. The results from the lower section will be used as inputs to the upper section.

The validation of the model was carried out in three stages. In the first stage, the model was validated for forced convection between parallel plates using analytical data as benchmarks. In the second stage, a radiation analysis was performed for single, double and triple-glazed closed system with natural convection only. In the third and final validation stage, experimental data gathered from the Solar Lab at Concordia University was compared to the numerical model. The model included the effects of radiation for an open system with forced convection and a between-the-panes roller blind. For all three stages of validation, the results from the model were in excellent agreement with the benchmarking data.

Once the model was validated, a parametric analysis was used to determine the effects of varying key model parameters. The outlet temperature, the useful energy gain, and the net energy gain of the system were plotted as a function of inlet velocity. It was concluded that as the flow rate through the cavity was increased, the air temperature at the outlet approached that of the outdoor ambient air. By computing the heat generated from advection as well as the total losses from the system, including the heat lost from the indoor environment as well as the power consumed by the fan, the net useful heat gain of the system was calculated as a function of insolation level. Operating points (of the fan) for the upper section were therefore determined as functions of insolation level. A second order polynomial equation provided an excellent fit to the data and could therefore be used to determine the ideal operating point of the upper section for any insolation level.

Abstract:
Extruded aluminium has become the material of choice for building envelope owing to its lightness, wide range of possibilities for profile design, durability and the eco-friendly attitude. In the light of recent technological developments in metal and glass industries, there has been various new approaches towards aluminum curtain wall systems which are mostly preferred by architects in high-rise buildings. Herein, the panel curtain wall system is determined as innovative and the modern aluminium curtain wall system. Furthermore, in the recent prestigious high-rise buildings, the demand of the architects and the contractors begins to replace the conventional curtain wall system which is constructed via stick construction technique, with panel curtain wall system which is applied to the building in a modular form . The main aim of this study is to investigate why the panel curtain wall system comes to the forefront especially for high-rise buildings. Accordingly, the basic architectural, structural and constructional design principles of unitized aluminium curtain wall systems are defined, analyzed and then the advantages and disadvantages of this system are pointed out from an architectural point of view. In order to evaluate the performance of panel curtain wall system against environmental factors, the facade tests, which are new and still-developing methods in Turkey, are used. The extensive facade tests have been conducted on full-scale specimen under field conditions reproduced in an equipped test chamber by authorized facade testing company and the assessment of this curtain wall performance was provided accordance with related standards. The two story full-size specimen, was 3000 mm to 7600 mm, belongs to one of the prestigious office towers constructed in Istanbul. The facade tests conducted to the specimen include watertightness, air permeability, wind resistance and building movement tests. In this study, the performance criteria of panel curtain wall system were investigated not only against environmental factors but also against human sourced factors. It is expected that this study will provide a guideline for system designers on the future research and development phase and for architects on the selection of curtain wall systems for their buildings due to the conducted test results and other advantages taken throughout this study.

The author's aim is to design energy efficient multipurpose building, with minimal negative effects on environment. The positive impact on environment is visible on the preference of natural materials used in construction. External constructions of thermal conductivity coefficient at the level of passive standard are designed using objects of renewable energy. The location in Brno has been chosen for the proposed building, specifically the location known as brownfields. Lot is accessible from the street of Jan Babak, where public transport is available. The shape of the lot is in the form of incomplete oval with internal open atrium. The administrative part of the building takes half of the area with the rest of the area being used for other businesses, such as fitness centre and restaurant. Garages are proposed to be located underneath the main building, which is built on rigid structure. This rigid structure is a steel skeleton one with linked ceilings. The foundation of building is on stilt. The roof is of a flat type with variable slope, its structure and slope are of metal construction. Claddings are designed in the form of wooden structure filled with straw bales, the exterior is thermally insulated using fibreboard thermal insulation. Inner tract facade is proposed to be panelled with wooden planks. Photovoltaic panels will be placed both from the south and southeast of the outer oval. The rest of the facade will be panelled with grate for creepers. Only environment-friendly sources of energy are considered for the proposed building. Heating and cooling is based on the heat pump air-water system; using the rainwater as an example of renewing natural energy. The surroundings of the building are designed as meadows for of infiltration of rainwater. The proposed building has been assessed in terms of environmental sustainabilit

Abstract:
Sandwich panels are widely used in a variety of engineering applications and the study of their properties is fundamental for the expansion of their use. In this work, we studied sandwich panels with polyurethane core and fiberglass faces manufactured by the continuous lamination process. In the first configuration, the panel faces were made of fiberglass and polyester resin, with 39% glass content by mass and 1.9 mm thickness. In the second configuration, the panel faces were fabricated from fiberglass fabric and polyester resin, with 54% glass content by mass and 1.2 mm thickness. The mechanical properties of each composite were calculated in the MECH-Gcomp software. The properties of the core were initially taken from the literature. Then, it was possible to evaluate the panels by the finite element method using solid elements, comparing the behavior of the two types of panels in relation to the core compression loads, edgewise compression and bending. Tests were performed on the faces and also on the complete sandwich panels. For the faces, the tests were fiberglass mass content, tensile, compression and Iosipescu shear, according to ASTM D5630, D3039/D3039M, D6641/D6641M and D7078/D7078M, respectively. For sandwich panels, core compression, edgewise compression and core shear using bending tests were performed according to ASTM C365/C365M, C364/C364M and C393/C393M, respectively. After the tests, the FEM models were calibrated, allowing them to calculate other similar sandwich panel configurations. It was used Autodesk Simulation Composite Design software to validate the core shear test. It was concluded that the analysis of finite elements was reliable in realistically representing the behavior of the sandwich panels and the reduction in the thickness of the panel faces can be compensated with the increase of its mechanical resistance and stiffness by increasing the mass content of reinforcement and working with the orientation of the same.

Abstract:
The sheet metal forming process basically involves the shaping of sheet metal of various thickness and material properties into the desired contours. This metal forming process has been extensively used by the automotive industry to manufacture both car panels and parts. Over the years numerous investigations have been conducted on various aspects of the manufacturing process with varied success. In recent years the requirements on the sheet metal forming industry have headed towards improved stability in the forming process while lowering environmental burdens. Therefore the overall aim of this research was to identify a technique for developing lubricant formulations that are insensitive to the sheet metal forming process. Due to the expense of running experiments on production presses and to improve time efficiency of the process the evaluation procedure was required to be performed in a laboratory. Preliminary investigations in the friction/lubricant system identified several laboratory tests capable of measuring lubricant performance and their interaction with process variables. However, little was found on the correlation between laboratory tests and production performance of lubricants. Therefore the focus of the research switched to identifying links between the performance of lubricants in a production environment and laboratory tests. To reduce the influence of external parameters all significant process variables were identified and included in the correlation study to ensure that lubricant formulations could be desensitised to all significant variables. The significant process variables were found to be sensitive to die position, for instance: contact pressure, blank coating of the strips and surface roughness of the dies were found significant for the flat areas of the die while no variables affected friction when polished drawbeads were used. The next phase was to identify the interaction between the significant variables and the main lubricant ingredient groups. Only the fatty material ingredient group (responsible for the formation of boundary lubricant regimes) was found to significantly influence friction with no interaction between the ingredient groups. The influence of varying this ingredient group was then investigated in a production part and compared to laboratory results. The correlation between production performance and laboratory tests was found to be test dependant. With both the Flat Face Friction test and the Drawbead Simulator unaffected by changes in the lubricant formulation, while the Flat Bottom Cup test showing similar results as the production trial. It is believed that the lack of correlation between the friction tests and the production performance of the lubricant is due to the absence of bulk plastic deformation of the strip. For this reason the Ohio State University (OSU) friction test was incorporated in the lubricant evaluation procedure along with a Flat Bottom Cup test. Finally, it is strongly believed that if the lubricant evaluation procedure highlighted in this research is followed then lubricant formulations can be developed confidently in the laboratory.

This dissertation studies the impact of the mode of data collection on the quality of answers to survey questions, defined as the product of reliability and validity. Using data from the Netherlands about different topics (media, social and political trust, satisfaction, political orientation, left-right self-placement, attitudes toward immigration), it shows that the quality is similar in a computed assisted face-to-face survey using show cards (the European Social Survey, ESS) and a web survey based on a probability sample (the LISS panel). This is true both at the level of single items and composite scores. It suggests that standardised relationships across variables can be compared across these two modes. On the contrary, telephone interviews lead to some differences in quality. For complex concepts, measurement equivalence also holds, meaning that means and unstandardised relationships can be compared across the faceto- face and web surveys mentioned previously.

Diploma project develops the intention to build up an ecological project based on renewable resources utilization of energy and materials recycling in Zábřeh. The study is engaged in possible area extension and tries to divide it into functional zones, when zone of main production remains the same (already elaborated project) and the zone of extension where there is settled production storages, alt.production hall extension. Third zone, so-called green zone, is developed in more detail. The green zone is a belt of plot separating the production area from second-class road nr.315, and also creates entrance gateway and lungz of the whole area. The green belt is conceived as a sojourn park with water elements(biotopes, lake, water basin), which is intersected by wooden footbridge, that connects object of multifunction pavilion and office building and ends at articifial island, or more precisely as a torso in the lake waters, symbolizing the science, which´s end is far away for human beings. The footbridge is also an axis between planned science-technological centres for the direct processing of waste materials. Administration building and pavilion are conceived as a „second nature“, purely human artifact, whih is also clearly expressed in „non-natural“ materials used. Their concept tries to saturate client´s requests and use the renewable resources of energy with observance of building biology principles (author´s request) at the same time.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The basis of the project was the assignment of creating a small hotel in the town of Mariefred that would relate to the town in a meaningful way. To handle the conflicting needs of the hotel typology consisting of - on the one hand public, vibrant parts and on the other hand private, quiet hotel rooms - the project took inspiration from the trees in the assigned site which gave peace to a relatively lively place. The hotel’s various rooms, group of rooms and the plan has thus been inspired by a tree analogy.  The project also has examined a plan characterised of rooms and functions connected in a flow with minimised space solely dedicated for circulation. Groups of rooms with specific functions is organised according to presumed flows of guests, staff and other logistics. Flexibility in the plan was also part of the process with the result of a big variety of interconnected hotel rooms and the possibility of temporary additional programs on the ground floor.  A significant challenge in the process was to let the tree analogy stay as an inspiration for meaningful architecture without being pretentious. Another big challenge was to get the flowing, flexible room relationships to a functional floor plan and still be able to develop the project architecturally otherwise.
