Abstract:

Este artigo objetiva realizar uma análise acerca dos produtos fonográficos promocionais enquanto elementos potencializadores da popularidade do artista envolvido profissionalmente no ambiente musical. Para tanto, busco delimitar essa reflexão a partir do percurso profissional do artista Raimundo Fagner em dois momentos de sua carreira – 1973 e 1982 –, observando a importância desses produtos promocionais para a divulgação de seus trabalhos e as distinções evidenciadas nesses dois momentos, especificamente no que diz respeito ao conteúdo vinculado aos mesmos. Tendo em vista a reflexão que o presente texto busca levar a efeito, opto pela utilização dos aparatos teóricos-metodológicos da História Cultural, principalmente no que se refere ao uso plural de fontes históricas como recursos para a reconstrução do passado.Palavras-Chave: Fontes Históricas; Indústria Fonográfica; Discos Promocionais; Raimundo Fagner. AbstractThis article aims to do an analysis about promotional phonographic products as elements that enhance the popularity of the artist professionally involved in the musical environment. Therefore, I seek to delimit this reflection from the professional life of the artist Raimundo Fagner in two moments of his career - 1973 and 1982 -, noting the role of these promotional products for the dissemination of his works and the distinctions evidenced in these two moments, specifically concerning the content linked to them. Este artigo pretende observar algumas confluências entre a canção popular e a canção literária, mediante a análise e comparação do poema “Motivo” (1939), de Cecília Meireles, e sua adaptação para a canção “Eu Canto” (1978), por Raimundo Fagner. A proposta é refletir sobre os elementos necessários para que um poema, originalmente literário, seja musicado e soe como canção popular. Além disso, também será abordado o tema da metapoesia, seus impactos na leitura do poema e na audição da canção.

Abstract:

Este artigo analisa o campo musical brasileiro, na década de 1970, sob o prisma dos artistas estreantes nesses dez anos. Luiz Gonzaga Junior, Luiz Melodia, Novos Baianos, Secos & Molhados, Clube da Esquina, João Bosco, Fagner, Belchior, Sá, Rodrix e Guarabyra, Ivan Lins e Raul Seixas são músicos e compositores populares, que despontaram artisticamente após o tropicalismo e desenvolveram uma produção musical significativa no transcorrer dessa década. Embora sejam, atualmente, artistas conhecidos, a trajetória dessa geração foi pouco estudada, e sua relevância na historiografia da música popular ainda se encontra mal definida. Assim, este artigo objetiva lança luz sobre essa geração de novatos, ocupantes de posições homólogas no campo musical, de modo a compreender a configuração dos seus trabalhos artísticos e carreiras profissionais no centro das transformações sociais, econômicas e culturais que marcaram a década de 1970.

Abstract:

En el presente estudio se establecieron medidas de mitigación para el ambiente térmico en el área de lavandería, sección secado evaluando y analizando riegos a los cuales están expuestos los operarios del Hospital General Ambato en su jornada laboral. Esta investigación tuvo su inicio con la evaluación cualitativa utilizando la matriz del Instituto Nacional de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo (INSHT), en donde se valora el riesgo en base a parámetros. También se empleó la norma NTP 330, que evalúa los riesgos de manera cuantitativa. En base a estas herramientas se procedió a llenar la matriz propuesta por el Ministerio de Trabajo. Como resultado de las herramientas, se consideran medidas que contrarresten al riesgo con un nivel de criticidad más alto, esto se lo realizó empleando las buenas prácticas establecidas por el Instituto Nacional de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo NTP 322: Método WBGT y NTP 74: Método Fagner. Una vez realizada las mediciones se obtuvo como resultado un índice WBGT de 31.02°C y un 100% de personas insatisfechas. Se demostró que los trabajadores se encuentran expuestos a estrés térmico y disconfort térmico, por la cual se planteó una medida que considera la redistribución del área de la sección de secado del área de lavandería asegurando así un ambiente adecuado para que los trabajadores desempeñen sus labores de la mejor manera.

Abstract:

Den nye forskriften overordnet del – verdier og prinsipper for grunnopplæringen knytter begrepet tverrfaglighet til tre ulike temaer og fremhever det som et pedagogisk prinsipp for undervisningen i Norge. Artikkelen belyser hvordan denne delen av læreplanverket beskriver begrepet tverrfaglig som pedagogisk prinsipp. Undersøkelsen som ligger til grunn for artikkelen, viser at læreplanen åpner for at lærere kan konstruere sin egen forståelse av hva tverrfaglig tilnærming er, og dermed kan praktisere ulike former for tverrfaglig opplæring. Artikkelen beskriver hva et utvalg av faglærere på ungdomstrinnet (i naturfag og kunst og håndverk) legger i begrepet tverrfaglig slik de forstår bruken i læreplanverket. Videre tar den for seg hva disse lærerne oppfatter som en tverrfaglig tilnærming i sin egen operasjonaliserte undervisning. Flertallet av disse lærerne hevder at tverrfaglighet sett i lys av overordnet del innebærer en undervisning hvor fagene integreres og glir over i hverandre. Imidlertid viser undersøkelsen at når de fleste av informantene ser på sin egen operasjonaliserte undervisning, både forstår de og utøver de den tverrfaglige tilnærmingen annerledes. Eksempler lærerne trekker fram fra egen undervisning, illustrerer at den tverrfaglige tilnærmingen til undervisning både forstås og praktiseres på ulike måter med ulike grader av tverrfaglighet. Artikkelen ser også på i hvilken grad lærerne har erfaring med undervisning på tvers av naturfag og faget kunst og håndverk. Lærerne i denne undersøkelsen vedgår at de ikke har erfaring med tverrfaglig samarbeid mellom disse fagene. Undersøkelsen bygger på en dokumentanalyse og intervjuer av tolv lærere i ungdomsskolen som underviser i naturfag og faget kunst og håndverk. Teoretisk rammeverk for undersøkelsen har vært Goodlad (1977, 1979) sin konseptuelle teori om læreplanens ulike fremtredelsesformer. Nøkkelord: tverrfaglig, tverrfaglig tilnærming, den formelle plan, den oppfattede plan, den operasjonaliserte plan, den erfarte plan og samarbeid på tvers av naturfag og kunst og håndverk.

Abstract:

I denne artikel beskrives praksisnær undervisning gennem Deweys erfaringsbegreb og hans forståelse af undervisning som en undersøgende og eksperimenterende tilgang til fagene, hvor eleverne får erfaringer med den praktiske virkelighed og med fagenes ’brugsværdi’ i forhold til selvstændiggørelse og livsverdenen uden for skolen. Beskrivelsen trækker også på teorier om pædagogisk entreprenørskab og på Biestas tanker om uddannelse. Baggrunden for at beskæftige sig med praksisnær undervisning er bl.a. det uddannelsespolitiske fokus på praksisfaglighed som en måde at fremme ”flere forskellige aspekter af den enkelte elevs alsidige udvikling og dannelse […] gøre flere elever mere bevidste om, at erhvervsuddannelserne ogsåer en mulighed for de bogligt dygtige elever med praktiske evner […], og styrke elevernes faglige udvikling og øge deres interesse for eksempelvis naturfagene og teknologi” (Regeringen, 2018). Artiklen beskriver praksisfaglighed gennem praksisnær undervisning og udfolder en bred forståelse af praksisfaglighed, der kan bidrage til mere nuancerede blikke på undervisning.

Abstract:

This paper offers a general survey of accounting literature in the French language area of the first half of the 20th century: After a general Introduction, referring mainly to renowned French authors of past centuries, it deals first with historical accounting research (Dupont, de Roover, Gomberg, Vlaemminck, etc). Then come publications in financial accounting theory and its application (Faure, Dumarchey, Delaporte, Penglaou, de Fages de Latour, etc.), followed by a section on cost accounting and managerial control (Julhiet, de Fage de Latour, Detoeuf, Satet, Bournisien, Brunei, Sauvegrai, etc.). Alarger Section is devoted to inflationary problems (Delavelle, Raffegeau and Lacout, Bayard, Léger, Faure, Thomas, Bisson, Dumarchey, Durand, Beaupère, Ratier, etc.). Another large section refers to charts of accounts and public supervision (Otlet, Faure, Blairon, Detoeuf, Caujolle, Fourastié, Gabriel, Chardonnet, Gamier, etc.). The paper closes with a concise general conclusion about this period of transition from a mainly traditional agricultural to an industrial society with its costing problems, its organizational control, and its greater service orientation.

Abstract:

`Prekarisering` er et begreb, der i disse år er på mange sociologers læber, fordi det tilsyneladende indfanger den nye form for usikkerhed, der karakteriserer nutidens samfund i almindelighed og arbejdsmarked og arbejdsliv i særdeleshed. Imidlertid er det langt fra første gang, at sociologer kritisk dissekerer, diagnosticerer og tilbyder farverige kritiske begreber til at beskrive tingenes tilstand i relation til arbejdslivet. Denne artikel introducerer til fire forskellige kritisk-sociologiske samtidsdiagnoser over nutidens arbejdsliv: `fleksibiliseringsdiagnosen '(f.eks. ved Richard Sennett), `brasilianiserings/balkaniseringsdiagnosen' (f.eks. ved Ulrich Beck og Zygmunt Bauman), 'kommercialiseringsdiagnosen' (f.eks. ved Arlie R. Hochchild) og 'prekariseringsdiagnosen' (f.eks ved Guy Standing). Alle disse samtidsdiagnoser tilbyder et særligt kritisk blik både på de strukturelle, de kulturelle og de individuelle forhold, der tilsyneladende i stigende grad karakteriserer nutidens arbejdsmarked og arbejdsliv. Aflutningsvis diskuterer artiklen, hvorvidt disse fire samtidsdiagnoser tilbyder noget nyt i forhold til eksisterende sociologisk viden, hvorvidt de rammer plet i deres kritik, og særligt hvorvidt og hvordan den nyere 'prekariseringsdiagnose' adskiller sig fra de andre omtalte samtidsdiagnoser.

Foram coletadas amostras com estrutura indeformada em dois tipos de anéis volumétricos com 0,081 m de altura e 0,070 m de diâmetro (≈312 cm3) e com 0,05 m de altura e de diâmetro (98 cm3). Nos mesmos pontos de amostragem da K0 foram coletadas amostras deformadas para quantificação de areia, silte, argila, porosidade total, macro e microporosidade, densidade do solo em uma malha amostral de 7 x 7 pontos espaçados em 2,0 x 2,0 m, totalizando uma área de 196,0 m². Os resultados foram submetidos à análise estatística exploratória e teste de normalidade de Shapiro-Wilk; posteriormente, verificou-se a dependência espacial pela análise geoestatística. Os resultados revelaram que para a profundidade de 0-0,15 m a condutividade hidráulica determinada no permeâmetro de carga constante no cilindro de volume maior apresentou menor coeficiente de variação, indicando uma melhor representatividade das amostras; a densidade do solo apresentou índice de dependência espacial moderada, com alcance de 1,22 m e semivariograma tipo esférico para a profundidade de 0-0,15m; para a profundidade de 0,15-0,30 o índice de dependência espacial foi forte, com alcance de 1,54 m e semivariograma tipo exponencial. Deformed structural samples were collected in two types of volumetric rings with 0.081 m long and 0.070 m in diameter (312 cm3) and 0.05 m in height and diameter (98 cm3). In the same sampling points of K0 deformed samples were collected for quantification of sand, silt, clay, total porosity, macro and microporosity, bulk density in a sample grid of 7 x 7 points spaced at 2.0 x 2.0 m totaling an area of 196.0 m². The results were submitted to exploratory statistical analysis and Shapiro-Wilk normality test; later, the spatial dependence was verified by geostatistical analysis. The results showed that for the depth of 0-0.15 m the hydraulic conductivity determined in the constant load permeameter in the higest volume cylinder showed a lower coefficient of variation, indicating a better representativeness of the samples; soil bulk density showed moderate spatial dependence index, with a range of 1.22 m and pherical-type semivariogram to the depth of 0-0.15m; to the depth of 0.15-0.30 the spatial dependence index was strong, reaching 1.54 m and exponential semivariogram. Objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar a produção de cultivares de rabanete sob distintas lâminas de irrigação em diferentes épocas de cultivo no Nordeste Sul-Mato-Grossense. O experimento foi montado e analisado em parcelas sub-subdivididas, possuindo quatro lâminas de água (50, 75, 100 e 125% da evapotranspiração da cultura) nas parcelas, três cultivares de rabanete (Saxa, Sparkler e Cometa) nas subparcelas e duas épocas de cultivo (seca e chuvosa) nas sub-subparcelas, com quatro repetições no delineamento em blocos casualizados. Foram avaliados: comprimento e diâmetro de raiz, número de raízes comerciais e rachadas, massa total de raízes e massa comercial de raízes, massa fresca e seca da parte aérea, relação raiz/parte aérea e eficiência de uso da água. As lâminas de irrigação proporcionaram nas características avaliadas efeito linear na época seca e não conferiram efeito na época chuvosa. O rabanete Cometa deve ser preferido no nordeste Sul-Mato-Grossense e irrigado com reposições que atendam 125 e 50% da evapotranspiração da cultura, nas épocas seca e chuvosa, respectivamente. The study aimed to evaluate the production of distinct radish cultivars submitted to distinct irrigation depths at distinct cropping seasons in the northeastern region of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The experiment was installed and analyzed in a split plot design, presented in four irrigation depths (50%, 75%, 100% and 125% of crop evapotranspiration) in the plots, three radish varieties (Saxa, Sparkler and Cometa) in the subplots and two cropping seasons (dry and rainy) in the sub-subplots, in the randomized block scheme with four replications. The following agronomic characteristics were evaluated: root depth, root diameter, commercial root number, cracked root number, weight of total and marketable root, total root yield, commercial root yield, fresh shoot yields, dry shoot yield, root/shoot ratio, and water use efficiency. There was better performance of the radish in the dry season. The Cometa cultivar, independent of cropping season and irrigation depth, showed superior agronomic characteristics than other cultivars evaluated. The irrigation depths, in general, provided in the evaluated characteristics linear outcome in the dry season and did not confer effect in the rainy season. The Cometa radish cultivar should be chosen by producers from northeastern Mato Grosso do Sul, in Brazil, and irrigated with replacements of 125% and 50% on the crop evapotranspiration, in the dry and rainy seasons, respectively. Se estudió la contribución de los patrones de crecimiento secundario y la anatomía de la madera a la coexistencia de dos especies de Quercus (Quercus ilex subsp. ballota —especie de madera de porosidad semi-difusa— y Quercus faginea —especie de madera de porosidad en anillo—), en una localidad de clima mediterráneo continental, durante dos años de climatología contrastada. Según nuestros resultados el patrón de crecimiento secundario de Q. faginea se concentra en primavera, iniciándose antes, y respondiendo más que el de Q. ilex a un incremento de la precipitación durante este periodo. Q. ilex prolonga la formación de madera hacia el otoño y el crecimiento del verano tardío tiene una mayor importancia en términos de conductividad hidráulica teórica que en Q. faginea, que concentra la conductividad hidráulica en los vasos formados en primavera. Por tanto, la distinta respuesta de la fenología de formación de la madera y de la anatomía del xilema de ambas especies al patrón estacional de precipitación podría contribuir a explicar la coexistencia de Q. ilex y Q. faginea.

Abstract:

Non-enzymatic glycation and covalent modification of proteins leads to Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs). AGEs are biomarkers of aging and neurodegenerative disease, and can be induced by impaired neuronal signaling. The objective of this study was to investigate if manipulation of dopamine (DA) in vitro using the model protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA), and in vivo using the model organism Drosophila melanogaster, influences fluorescent AGEs (fAGEs) formation as an indicator of dopamine-induced oxidation events. DA inhibited fAGEs-BSA synthesis in vitro, suggesting an anti-oxidative effect, which was not observed when flies were fed DA. Feeding flies cocaine and methamphetamine led to increased fAGEs formation. Mutants lacking the dopaminergic transporter or the D1-type showed further elevation of fAGEs accumulation, indicating that the long-term perturbation in DA function leads to higher production of fAGEs. To confirm that DA has oxidative properties in vivo, we fed flies antioxidant quercetin (QUE) together with methamphetamine. QUE significantly decreased methamphetamine-induced fAGEs formation suggesting that the perturbation of DA function in vivo leads to increased oxidation. These findings present arguments for the use of fAGEs as a biomarker of DA-associated neurodegenerative changes and for assessment of antioxidant interventions such as QUE treatment.

Abstract:

In the last decades the Icelandic compulsory school system has become increasingly decentralized and the scope of the school principals‘ responsibilities has widened. Principals have the responsibility of organizing their schools‘ managerial structure and divide the workload between teachers and administrators. Their responsibilities include both management and professional leadership. Research points to a clear correlation between the professional leadership of principals and academic achievement. The collective agreement from 2001 between the teachers union and local authorities contained clauses on the posts of vice principals and heads of departments and the number of people hired into those positions grew rapidly until 2008. The purpose of this study was to examine background and working conditions of principals and which tasks within management and professional leadership they choose to take on. Data was collected by questionnaire which was sent to principals of schools with more than 100 students. Compulsory school principals have considerable work experience and the vast majority of them have completed post-graduate education in management. The managerial structure of the schools seems quite vague and this has led to certain symptoms of chaos rather than professional bureaucracy. The role of assistant principals and head of departments are vaguely defined but the principals shoulder most of the management roles. The important professional leadership roles are often said to be the common responsibility of the administrative team. The results indicate that the intention of the collective agreement in 2001 to promote aca - demic leadership in schools has not been realized.

Through an analysis of The Knowledge Promotion’s curricula for Norwegian language arts and music, I show how the five basic skills identified in the Knowledge Promotion are integrated into the subjects in different ways. Norwegian is designed as a literacy subject, where the subject content to some extent appears to be subordinated to the development of basic skills. In music, the basic skills are better integrated into the subject, and the subject stands out more clearly against the background. One may thus reasonably claim that the basic skills are not only included in the subjects on the subject’s terms, which is the aim of the framework. We studied the growth response to drought of a Quercus faginea Lam. stand in a xeric site in NE Spain, that experienced an intense defoliation in 1993–94. This event coincided with very low precipitation from November to February, the period when total monthly precipitation exceeds evapotranspiration. We evaluated the effects of November–February precipitation (recharge precipitation, RP) on internode length, radial growth, and wood anatomy. Quercus faginea showed reduced longitudinal and radial growth during the years with low RP, and most sampled trees did not produce latewood in 1993–94 but showed wide earlywood vessels. We observed the reverse for years with a high RP. Radial growth was enhanced by increased precipitation during January and May of the growth year. If severe droughts become more frequent, due to a greater climatic variability, extensive dieback of marginal Q. faginea populations may be expected.

Artikkelen rapporterer fra en oversiktsstudie av empirisk forskning på skolefaget kroppsøving i perioden 2010–2019. Hovedmålet er å kartlegge hvilke tema forskningen har belyst, samt om – og eventuelt hvordan – forskningstemaene er innrettet mot anvendelse i kroppsøving i grunnopplæringen. Analyse av 116 publikasjoner avdekket fire grupper av forskningstema: læring i faget, undervisning i faget, forskning om faget og andre forskningstema med relevans for kroppsøving. Studiene innenfor de tre første gruppene undersøker tema med innretning mot anvendelse i kroppsøving. Forskning på læring i faget har undersøkt læringsprosesser, motivasjonsforhold og fysisk utvikling, og teoretiske perspektiv innen psykologi og fysiologi dominerer. Forskning på undervisning i faget og om faget er tydelig innrettet mot anvendelse i praksisfeltet, og er oftest studert fra utdanningsvitenskapelige perspektiv. Studier innen andre forskningstema med relevans for kroppsøving undersøker andre samfunnsfenomen enn kroppsøvingsfaglige, og har svak innretning mot skolefaglig anvendelse. Oversiktsstudien viser at forskningen oftest er gjennomført med klare skiller mellom forskere og aktører i praksisfeltet. En overvekt av studiene har hentet data fra de øverste trinnene i grunnopplæringen, mens barnetrinnet i mindre grad er studert. Basert på resultatene anbefaler vi å stimulere til praksisorientert forskning i samspill med praksisfeltet, samt økt bevissthet om å inkludere forskningstema ut fra kunnskapsbehov på barnetrinnet.

Na primeira seção, História da Ciência e Ensino, são apresentados três artigos; no primeiro artigo, intitulado “Casa dos pássaros: local de preparação de material zoológico a ser enviado para Portugal”, cujo projeto de pesquisa encontra-se nos Anais do Scientiarum História IX (9º Congresso de História das Ciências e das Técnicas e Epistemologia), Rio de Janeiro, 2016 os autores José Mário d´Almeida e Regina Maria Macedo Costa Dantas nos apresentam uma rica pesquisa sobre a criação, consolidação e, por fim, a extinção da Casa dos pássaros e suas relações com o Museu Nacional; o segundo artigo, “Pasteur nos Livros Didáticos de Biologia do Ensino Médio aprovados no PNLD: uma análise histórica sobre a abordagem da origem da vida e o metabolismo” de autoria de Ricardo Brasil Crudeli e Hélio Elael Bonini Viana, foi apresentado V Jornada de História da Ciência e Ensino: Propostas, Tendências e Construção de Interfaces, realizada de 30 julho a 01 de agosto de 2015 e nos mostra as incoerências históricas dos trabalhos de Louis Pasteur que aparecem descritos em livros didáticos de Biologia para Educação Básica e que não podem ser desprezados e descontextualizados; o terceiro artigo é algo inédito para a Revista: de autoria Arlete de Jesus Brito e Islenis Carolina Botello, o artigo é uma entrevista realizada com o professor Antonio Miguel que aborda, entre outros temas interessantes, o ensino de matemática nas décadas de 1970 e 1980.Na seção Tópicos de História da Ciência, o artigo de Maria Júlia Corazza e Verônica Klepka, intitulado “O essencialismo na classificação de Lineu e a repercussão dessa controvérsia na biologia”, as autoras discutem aspectos da taxonomia tradicional e os trabalhos de Lineu e saem em defesa dessas ideias e justificam o porque a classificação biológica lineana não é fundamentada no essencialismo platônico ou aristotélico, o que sugere uma descontextualização desses fatos. O segundo artigo desta sessão “Apontamentos e reflexões preliminares acerca da divulgação de conhecimento científico no final do século XVIII e início do século XIX” de Paulo Henrique Trentin. Trentin nos traz uma reflexão acerca da importância dos autores, tradutores e outros personagens responsáveis pela divulgação dos conhecimentos científicos do final do século XVIII ao início do século XIX no Brasil o que, de certa maneira, era feita por parte de pessoas com formação científica e domínio de alguma área do conhecimento. O último artigo da sessão “John Hogg (1800-1869) e a descrição do quarto reino natural: primigenum” dos autores Verônica Klepka, Maria Julia Corazza e Fagner de Souza traz como destaque o trabalho do naturalista britânico John Hogg que cria o quarto reino da natureza e que gerou debates durante o século XX. Na última sessão História da Ciência e Ensino: Propostas e Aplicações para sala de aula são apresentados dois trabalhos que discutem as interfaces da História da Ciência no Ensino de Ciências. Ana Lúcia Rodrigues Gama Russo nos apresenta o artigo “Primo Levi - uma vida a descobrir”, cujo foco foi a leitura de dois capítulos do livro A Tabela Periódica escrito por Primo Levi. A autora mostra o percurso metodológico para aplicação, coleta de dados e resultados obtidos, nos levando a pensar que ainda precisamos discutir mais as interfaces entre História da Ciência e Ensino. Ainda sobre a Tabela Periódica, as autoras Jomara Mendes Fernandes, Sandra Franco-Patrocício e Ivoni Freitas-Reis nos presenteia com o artigo “Possibilidades para o fazer docente junto ao aprendiz cego em aulas de Química: uma interface com a história da Tabela Periódica” que, além de tratar sobre a História da Ciência no Ensino de Química, nos traz importantes apontamentos e discussões sobre a Educação Inclusiva, sobretudo para estudantes cegos. O trabalho nos mostra que é possível desenvolver metodologias interdisciplinares em sala de aula de modo a atender as demandas legais e sociais da sociedade atual. Auf der Grundlage von morphologischen Merkmalen werden die Arten sechs Artengruppen zugeordnet. Die verfügbaren Informationen zu Zoogeographie und Ökologie der aus der Paläarktis bekannten Arten werden zusammengestellt. Die Verbreitung der Gattung in der Paläarktis sowie die Verbreitungsgebiete der einzelnen Arten werden anhand von Karten illustriert. Abstract:

Abstract Dendrometers are being increasingly used to measure stem radius changes in trees and to unravel the mechanisms underlying stem daily rhythms of radial expansion and contraction. Nevertheless, automated dendrometers have not been often used to measure root radius dynamics, their relationship with environmental variables and the influence of endogenous processes, especially in drought-prone Mediterranean areas. Here, we measured root radius dynamics of two coexisting oak species (the evergreen Quercus ilex L. and the deciduous Quercus faginea Lam). Our goals were to describe annual, seasonal and diurnal scale root radius patterns and to disentangle the role of different environmental parameters as drivers. Long-term high-resolution measurements (every 15 min over 7 years) were collected with automated point dendrometers on the main tree roots of five individuals per species. Root radius annual change patterns were bimodal and similar for both oak species. Quercus faginea Lam showed three times larger root increment in the spring than Q. ilex, but the bimodal pattern was stronger in Q. ilex, which showed a larger root increment in autumn. Quercus faginea Lam showed an earlier root phenological activation in the spring and in late summer compared with Q. ilex. The effects of environmental drivers across species were similar at daily scales: root radius increased with air temperature and soil moisture, and it decreased with rising vapor pressure deficit. Furthermore, daily root radius variations for both oak species were maintained after extracting statistically the environmental effects, which points toward a significant role of endogenous drivers. These differences in root radius change patterns at seasonal to daily scales likely result from the differences in leaf phenology and growth strategy. Quercus faginea Lam is deciduous and has a faster growing rate in spring than the evergreen Q. ilex, which can grow more in summer.
