Full textGeochonological, petrographic and litochemical data have been used to characterize the crustal evolution and the thermochronology of the Costeiro Complex in the state of São Paulo This part of the Ribeira Folded Belt is composed of paraderived rocks on the east and orthoderived rocks on the west, which are organized in a ductile shear zone forming a positive flower structure, whose axis runs ENE-WSW. Main amphibolite occurrences are found within predominant kinzigitic gneisses along this axis. The intrusive basic rocks which originated the amphibolites have a 580 Ma (U-Pb SHRIMP) age of crystallization. They formed tabular intrusions and a secondary magmatic chamber. The amphibolite occurrence at Boissucanga still preserves its continental tholeiitic characteristics. The U-Pb SHRIMP method on zircons, Sm-Nd and Rb-Sr of both whole rock and mineral concentrations and K-Ar of minerals yielded the age of magmatic crystallization and the age of the highest metamorphism which affected this complex. The above methods also permitted interpretation of the regional cooling history after the peak in metamorphism. The close proximity of the basic magmatism and the peak in the metamorphism is evident from the 570 Ma, U-Pb age determination of overgrowths on detritic zircon crystals of the paragneisses. This determination suggests tectonic environment of a back-arc sedimentary basin over continental crust. The source areas were probably rocks differentiated from the mantle between the Paleoproterozoic and Neoproterozoic. The convergent dynamics responsible for the Ribeira montains reached temperatures of 800 °C and pressures around 5,5 Kb in the Costeiro Complex. The P-T-t path of this process was established by geothermobarometric studies. At the maximum of compressive shortening of the orogen, the continental collision process evolved into directional shear movements with the presence of transpressive flower structures. Despite the predominant dextral kinematics of the Ribeira Belt, this study found several sinistral kinematic markers, observed mainly along the flanks of the flower structure, associated with rocks representative of the metamorphic peak and later stages. The distribuition of amphibolitic bodies along the axis of the flower structure, as well as the positioning of the Mesozoic magmatism, in this region, imparts special significance to this structure, as evidencing recurrent geologic events due to strong tectonic inheritance of an older master structure. According to thermochronologic studies, the temperatures of this crustal segment were high between 580 and 480 My, decreasing from 800 °C to 450 °C (a rate of around 3 °C/My). This rate is coherent with the cooling rate indicated by the Fe\'EQUIVALENTE A\'Mg diffusion between garnets and their biotite inclusions. After this period, the data indicate a strong increase in the cooling process of this complex, interpreted as an important regional uplift phase, concordant with a period of pegmatitic activity which strongly affected the study area. The penecontemporaneity and localization of the orogenic uplift and development of the Neoproterozoic-Eopaleozoic molassic basins followed by the sedimentary sequences of the Paraná Basin suggest that these geological processes are closely related.

Full textLitho-structural characterizations carried out on two transverse sections of the Neoproterozoic Ribeira Belt, in the north portion State of Rio de Janeiro and southern State of Espírito Santo, southeastern Brazil, show that it represents part of the transpressive dextral orogen related to the Central Mantiqueira Province. NNE-trending and steeply-dipping regional mylonitic belts describe a map-scale, S-C-like structure that is characterized by their deflection towards NE near the Além Paraíba shear zone. This geometry is consistent with oblique continental collision considering the São Francisco Craton as a reference. In the Italva (RJ) - Muriaé (MG) section, the shear zones on its eastern part present predominant top to SW, parallel-to-the-orogen, transpressive movements and top-down-to-ESE tectonics on the central-western part of the section related to intermediary-dipping shear zones with frontal lineation. The main shear zones on the Marechal Floriano - Ibatiba (ES) section describe oblique movements with dextral component and top-to-SW tectonic flow, as described in the Guaçuí shear zone. At some outcrops, sinistral structures may reflect antithetic movements on these zones. Lithological and structural control related to deformation partitioning lead to the formation of milonites and felsic mylonitic granulites in ductile shear zones, alternated with less deformed intermediate to basic granulites with charnockitic lenses. Indeed, the anastomosed geometry and fan-like pattern of planar structures, as well as the complex relation with linear elements, may be a result of the transpressive shear. The garnet granulites on the northern region of Rio de Janeiro present chemical equilibrium from 700 to 780 °C and from 7.9 to 9.3 kbar which is higher than the intervals of 600-670 °C and 5,8-6,7 kbar obtained for aluminous gneisses on the eastern portion of the section. These differences on geothermobarometric results, mostly higher considering the nuclei of minerals in relation to its borders, the kinematic characteristics and microstructural pattern of samples suggest a more elevated exhumation rate for the granulites in this orogenic segment. Considering a transpressive regime related to oblique tectonic plates or blocks collision, this process can be explained by the ductile extrusion of infracrustal portions as shown by extensional shear zones described in this work. Because of our investigations, we think that the limit of Ribeira and Araçuaí belts on parallel 21° South, as considered by some authors, is arbitrary. The contrasts on kinematics on both studied sections point to longitudinal variations of deformation path that may reflect boundary condition changes, like the geometry of the craton and rheologic transitions of rocks caused by differential partial melting, that lead to extrusion tectonics with partial preservation of granulitic parageneses on the investigated segment.

The region between Bom Jesus de Itabapoana and Italva consists of a high-grade metamorphic terrane situated within the so-called Oriental Terrane of the Central Sector of the Ribeira Belt. This belt, of neoproterozóic-cambrian age, was formed during the Brasiliano Orogeny, in the south / southeast margin of the São Francisco Craton. The present work was developed on the basis of preexisting geological maps and collection of samples along two structural sections of the study area. The aim of this work is the investigation of the metamorphism of the Cambuci, Costeiro and Italva Domains of the Oriental Terrane. This investigation was based on the acquisition and interpretation of chemical analyses of mineral phases from metapelites and metabasites of the previously quoted domains. The identification of mineral parageneses, the discrimination of different metamorphic equilibriums and the determination of absolute values of pressure and temperature (geothermobarometry) for each one of the study tectonic domains were the basic tools used for the characterization of the metamorphic evolution of the area. The obtained data indicated different conditions and metamorphic evolutions, including different crustal levels, for the different tectonic domains of the Oriental Terrane. The rocks of the Cambuci Domain register two different thermal events, both under high temperature and medium pressure conditions. The first event, not inequivocaly metamorphic, was developed under lower pressures than the second one. The rocks of the Costeiro Domain record metamorphic peak under conditions of medium pressure granulite facies. The obtained pressure and temperature values were the highest among the three studied domains. The rocks of the Italva Domain yield temperature values of the transition zone between upper anfibolite and granulite facies conditions. Low to medium pressure values were obtained for this domain.

Full textThe highlands of the Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, known as Serra dos Orgãos, is constituted by granites and gneisses generated or reworked during the Brasiliano Cycle, at the transition between Neoproterozoic and Cambrian. It is located at the Central segment of the Ribeira Belt, which runs along the South Atlantic Coast and was formed at Brasiliano event. The Ribeira Belt is divided by the Central Tectonic Boundary into two terranes: the Occidental and the Oriental. The studied area is located in the latter terrane, near the cities of Nova Friburgo, Sumidouro e Cordeiro. Field and petrographic studies as well as geochemical and isotopic analyses from selected samples allowed to propose a whole historical evolution of a Brasiliano Orogen. A pre-collisional magmatism represented by tonalitic and dioritic gneisses from the Rio Negro Cmplex and by hornblende gabbro small stocks is the earliest recognizable geological process. The calcic magma series tonalite-trondhjemite with (\'épsilon\'Nd) 600 Ma of -0,9 suggest that its tectonic environment was as an oceanic island arc, since 630 Ma (U/Pb zircon age). At 600 Ma ago (Pb/Pb zircon age) the Rio Negro collided with a passive margin (the Occidental Terrane) resulting in crustal thickening, partial melting of metassediments and muscovite leucogranite generation. After the arc/continent collisions a new magmatic arc, at this time with continental setting, is represented by the Serra dos Órgãos batholith. The calcic series tonalite-granodiorite-granite has crystallized at 560 Ma and a slightly older leucocratic peraluminous BSO facies suggest crustal contamination. The cessation of the BSO magmatism was accompanied by a thermal relaxation and tectonic extrusion of the Oriental Terrane to the upper crust. The uplift was so geologically fast that crystalline rocks from this Terrane had experienced distensional collapse, and broke into twelve NW trnding ductile-ruptile shear zones. These large structures had controlled the magma transport of the post-collisional granite laccoliths and sill from the Nova Friburgo massif. The Rb/Sr isochronic analyses from the granites yielded ages between 500 and 480 Ma, which are the last orogenic ages ever found in Ribeira Belt.

Full textIn the present work, we integrate field geological mapping, regional airborne geophysical data and high resolution (1 m) satellite images to provide a detailed geological map of the Conselheiro Paulino granitic pluton in the Ribeira Belt, Brazil. The studied area has few outcrops and other issues that limit the traditional geological mapping. Landslides are common in the highly weathered portion of the granite. The use of high-resolution images allowed the identification of the few available outcrops and other elements such as ravines, aluvial plains, eluvial deposits, vegetation and roads. This was important to guide and optimize the fieldwork surveys. The available magnetic and radiometric airborne geophysical data corroborate field and petrographic data about the Conselheiro Paulino granite pluton. The pluton can be divided into two distinct facies, one with microgranitic and the other with microgranodioritic composition.

Full textThe fabric of granitic magmas emplaced in the middle and upper crustal levels can be caused by the stress action during the ascension and convection of plutons and/or tectonic strain. Several mechanisms can contribute for the previous thing, nevertheless the interaction between the distortions and tectonic is the domineering one, principally in granites located in orogenic belts. In the Apiaí domain of the Ribeira belt (SP-PR) the elongated granitic batholiths have been historically classified like syn-tectonic and them was emplaced during the development of a neoproterozoic continental magmatic arch. Small Plutons with subcircular to oval forms generally discordant with regard to the disposition of the regional structures and that in turn possess feldspars of reddish typical colour, had been considered pos-tectonic, and therefore, emplaced after the collision that joined the different litho-tectonic units that constitute the Ribeira orogenic belt. This schematic classification of these granites relicts on geochemistry and geochronology data. In this study was identified and recorded in map the internal fabric of the syn-tectonic Ribeirão Branco granite and of the pos-tectonic Capão Bonito and Sguário granites using the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) with the aim of inserting them appropriately in the models of tectonic classification whose basic premises are of structural nature. The porphyritic Ribeirão Branco and Itaóca granites have a high magnetic susceptibility (k = 10-2 SI), which is minor than (k = 5 x 10-3 SI) in the red granites (Capão Bonito, Sguário). In the first ones the poor Ti magnetite is the main source of susceptibility, commonly associated to titanite, biotite and amphibole. In the red granites, the susceptibility is provided by magnetite variability rusty (maghemite) and Ti - hematite (hemo-ilmenite), in addition to the significant contribution of biotite altered by hydrothermal processes. The grade of anisotropy rise (P) in the porphyritic granites (P = 1,14 SD. 0,08) and this is bigger than in the red ones (P = 1,07, SD. 0,05). In the Ribeirão Branco pluton, the high value of P is attributed to an incipient foliation detected in several sectors, which contrasts with the microstructure seemingly isotropic of the red granites. The study of the fabrics of silicates in the porphyritic granites Ribeirão Branco and Itaóca revealed that the orientations of the main axes of AMS and of shape preferred orientation (SPO) of feldspar and mafic silicates (biotite + amphibole) are congruent, nevertheless some obliquities occur. Those obliquities are attributed to the influence of the proper characteristics (form, size, anisotropy) of the marker minerals of the respective sub fabrics. In the same way, the above-mentioned study of silicates fabric demonstrated that P tends to grow up with the intensity of the SPO of silicates, which allowed to identify domains with major magmatic distortion into de granitic bodies and to correlate them with the regional structure. In general, the magnetic fabric of the Ribeirão Branco granite is organized coherently with the tectonic regional sinestral strike-slip shear zones; nevertheless, in the western sector the orientation of the magnetic fabric was likely modified by the accommodation of the Sguário granite. In the Itaóca granite, the organization of the magnetic fabric is different if compared with fabrics of the previous pluton. In Itaóca granite was recorded a fabric with a concentric organization in 623 ± 10Ma. (MSWD 0,31), according to the concordant U-Pb (SHRIMP) age in zircons obtained for the crystallization of the granite, that seems to be occurred before the strain related with the activation of the regional strike-slip shear zones. Geochronology data of the literature indicates that the Capão Bonito granite is approximately 15 Ma. younger than the batholiths of porphyritic granite. The Capão Bonito granite has an organized fabric typical of syn-tectonic intrusions that has an excellent alignment of the magnetic lineation. In the granite Sguário, the fabric has a spiral organization, in the same way as recorded in Capão Bonito, like response to a strain associated with to a small strike-slip shear zone with W-E direction. This event would be related to the reactivation of the Ribeira strike-slip shear zone, which affected the south sector of the Itaóca granite, with the participation of an extensional component. The W-E transtensive deformation that favoured the injection of the red granites in the Apiaí Domain likely was subsequent to a main tetonomagmatic event and this should have been the responsible by the emplacement and strain in the porphyritic granites. The intrusion of the big granitic bodies ~ 615 Ma. and could be it related to the convergence between crustal blocks and to the consequent stretching sub parallel of the Ribeira belt, in which the distortion was located remarkably in the strike-slip shear zones with NE-SW direction.

Full textThe Costeiro domain integrates the Oriental terrane of the Ribeira belt that encompasses arc related rocks of the Rio Negro complex (ca. 790-605 Ma). These orthogneisses display a well documented subduction signature and are intruded on high-grade metassedimentary rocks of the São Fidélis group. Both units are crosscut by syn to late collisional granitoids related with the development of different stages of the Brasiliano Orogeny (ca. 605-480 Ma). U-Pb (LA-ICP-MS) data of detrital zircons from quartzites of the top unit of the São Fidélis group yielded a large spectrum of ages in the Mesoproterozoic and Paleoproterozoic, with subordinated grains in the Archaean and Neoproterozoic. In a synthetic resume, the results are: a) concordant Archean ages of the ca 2,85, 2,84 e 2.70 Ga; b) Paleoproterozoic zircons with maximum in ca. 2.2 Ga (second larger peak); c) Mesoproterozoic grains with two maximums at ca. 2.3 a 1.7 Ga and ca 1.5 Ga (larger peak); d) Neoproterozoic zircons of ca. 0.95-0.90 Ga and 0.86-0.61 Ga. The youngest detrital zircon of ca 613 Ma brackets the sedimentation of the top unit. In several zircons, metamorphic overprints (tips) were identified, with ages between ca. 602-570 Ma. Data from the Rio Grande and the biotite orthogneisses, previously interpreted as belonging to the syn-collisional granites and an homogeneous layer within the basal unit of the São Fidélis Group, rendered similar ages of ca. 620 Ma and are considered as equivalents of this unit. Connecting all the obtained data a possible interpretation is that the basal unit of the São Fidélis intruded by arc related rocks were the source area for the upper unit of the group that should be interpreted as coeval with the Rio Negro Arc evolution. U-Pb (ID-TIMS) of monazite crystals yielded the two metamorphic episodes detected at central Ribeira belt. Two monazites of a quartzite together with two crystals of the Rio Grande orthogneiss are discordant, with an upper intercept of ca. 603 Ma. On the other hand one monazite of the Rio Grande orthogneiss rendered the late metamorphic episode of the belt at ca. 535 Ma.

The Santo Aleixo Unit in its type-location is represented by homogenous gneiss and subordinated banded and inclused mafic-felsic-rich gneisses, all rocks separated by gradational contacts. Leucogranitic gneiss, migmatites, late-tectonic granite stocks and diabase dikes also occur in the studied area. The gneissic foliation dips to SE or NW with low to medium angles according to large vertical folds with a NE trending axial plane. The main foliation is deformed by late tectonic ductile to brittle shear zones. The gneisses are classified as tonalites to granites and, subordinated quartz-monzodiorites and quartz-monzonites. Biotite is always present with or without hornblende. Garnet was described only in the homogenous gneiss. Apatite, zircon, opaque minerals and minor titanite and allanite are the acessory minerals. Biotite chloritization and plagioclase sericitization are the observed metamorphic-hidrotermal processes. Lithogeochemical data classify the Santo Aleixo Unit gneisses as metaluminous metaigneous rocks from a calc-alkaline sequence. Heavy REE concentrations are lower than 10 ppm, resulting in elevated (La/Lu)N ratios. Comparing petrographic and lithogeochemical data from the Santo Aleixo Unit and the Rio Negro Complex points to the following statements: a) Santo Aleixo Units petrographic series are expanded while Rio Negro Complexs series are more restricted; b) the units presents same chemical signatures (calc-alkaline volcanic arc metaluminous magmas with biotite and hornblende); c) the Santo Aleixo Unit gneisses are depleted in heavy REE related to the presence of garnet at the magma source. Therefore, the incorporation of the Santo Aleixo Unit into the Rio Negro Complex is sustained by petrographic and lithogeochemical similarities, and also makes clear that the arc magmatism had different sources and evolutionary paths.

Full textThe Embu Terrane is located in the Ribeira Belt, it is separated by north for the Caucaia-Rio Jaguari shear zone, by south for the Cubatão shear zone and it is cut across the Taxaquara-Guararema shear zone and it is formed during the Neoproterozoic orogenic Brasilian cycle. This Terrane is formed by orthognaisses infrastructure Rio Capivari Complex, a sequence of metassedimentary rocks divided in two units: Paragnaisses and schists and quartzites and a wide number of granites that compose around of 30% of the Terrane. Through the field data, petrography, geocronology, geochemistry in whole-rock and isotopic Lu-Hf in zircon and Sm-Nd in whole-rock, it was possible to evidence different evolution stages for the Embu Terrane rocks. The Complex Rio Capivari rocks recorded a story of 400 m.y, the first event in the Siderian (2,4 Ga) related to the island arc formation with juvenile isotopic signature that evaluated to a continental active margin during the Riaciano (2,18 to 2,14 Ga) with magmatism related to Archean crust, the juvenile record is understand how the stage of continental margin where it happened retraction slab and at least in the Orosirian (2,01 Ga) the rocks have continental crust signature in probably collision regime. Isotopic evidences show that these rocks don\'t compose the basement of metassedimentary sequence. The metassedimentary rocks have the maximum depositional age inferred from the youngest detritic zircon age of 980 Ma, Tonian and the zircon detritic age are concentrate mainly Mesoproterozoic between 1,0 and 1,2 Ga and with a secondary concentration of 1,8 . Through the granitic magmatism and metamorphic data it was identified three tectonics events that affect the Terrane Embu. The first happened between 810-780 Ma and it was recorded in the orthogneisses with tonaliticmonzogranitic peraluminous, interpreted how formed in an environment of continental arc magmatic whose the magmatism in the finals stages admits contamination by the metassedimentary rocks. The second event between 705 and 660 Ma is printed in the tonian orthogneisses deformation and in the Serra do Quebra-Cangalha Batholith formation. At least, the final event between 630 and 575 Ma was related with the proto-continent Paranapanema-São Francisco collision, it had begin in 630 Ma with the active continental margin formation with metaluminous magmatism. The collision happened between 615 and 604 and the magmatism peraluminous between 595-580 Ma print the collision finals stages with orogen exhumation. The accretion of Rio Capivari complex on Embu Terrane is interpreted how it been related to this last tectonic event.

Full textGranite plutons located on the northeast of Cunhaporanga Intrusive Suite (Patrimônio Santo Antônio, Ouro Verde, São Domingos and Santa Rita) are emplaced into low grade metasedimentary rocks (Itaiacoca Group) of the Apiaí Domain (Ribeira Belt). Most of these plutons are isotropic with pinkish to grey colors and their compositions vary from monzogranite to sienogranite. They are usually porphyritic and locally inequigranular and equigranular. Regional mapping revealed that the foliation of the metasedimentary host rocks dips mainly to NE while the lineation (intersection, mineral) strikes in the NNW-SSE direction. The host rocks metamorphic fabric rotates progressively to become parallel to the NE-trending Itapirapuã transcurrent shear zone. Kinematic markers such as elongated quartz grains and mica-fish from quartz-milonites indicate the Itapirapuã shear records a sinistral movement. The fabric of the plutons was studied by anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) technique. Forty sites (300 specimens) were sampled at the Patrimônio Santo Antônio granite, 7 sites (48 specimens) at São Domingos, 9 sites (67 specimens) at Ouro Verde and 14 sites (92 specimens) at Santa Rita granite. The mean of magnetic susceptibility (k) is higher in Patrimônio Santo Antônio granite (k = 23,29 x \'10 POT.-3\' SI) and lower in the granites of Santa Rita (k = 11,85 mSI), São Domingos (k = 7,43 mSI) and Ouro Verde (k = 7,46 mSI). In contrast the magnetic anisotropy (P) is lower in the Patrimônio Santo Antônio granite (P = 1,09 ± 0,04) and higher in the granites São Domingos (P = 1,21 ± 0,09), Ouro Verde (P = 1,19 ± 0,07) and Santa Rita (P = 1,23 ± 0,11). Thermomagnetic and Isothermal Remanent Magnetization (IRM) studies show that Ti-poor magnetite is the principal carrier of rock magnetic properties but that includes minor contributions of Ti-hematite. Iron oxides are frequently associated with titanite, biotite and amphibole. Microstructures are typically magmatic, except for Santa Rita granite which shows post-magmatic recrystallized microstructures. The magnetic foliation of granitic plutons dips smooth to moderately and for the Patrimônio Santo Antônio body it exhibits a typical dome pattern. The subhorizontal magnetic lineation strikes NNW-SSE parallel to regional folding axe of the metasedimentary rocks. This feature shows that the granites are syntectonic to a deformation event apparently connected to NE-trending transcurrent shears. The occurrence of a foliation dome in the Patrimônio Santo Antônio pluton and prolate magnetic ellipsoids in São Domingos pluton suggest that the NNW-trending structures includes, besides a strike-slip shear fabric, a component of extension that probably assisted the emplacement of the plutons. A U-Pb (SHRIMP) determination in the Patrimônio Santo Antônio zircons have produced a concordia age of 589 ± 6 Ma attributed to the crystallization of the granite. These results indicate that in the latest stages of the development of the Cunhaporanga Intrusive Suite the Apiaí Domain was submitted to a regional strain field recording transcurrent simple shear and extension.

As rochas dessa unidade pertencem a duas séries distintas: série calcioalcalina (rochas intermediárias a ácidas); e série transicional (rochas básicas, ora de afinidade toleítica, ora alcalina). As análises geocronológicas U-Pb SHRIMP foram realizadas no Research School of Earth Science (ANU/Canberra/Austrália).
The Ribeira Orogen is a complex orogenic belt developed during the Brasiliano Orogeny, along the southern and southeastern borders of the São Francisco Craton, and is subdivided into four tectono-stratigraphic terranes: 1) the Occidental Terrane, taken as the reworked margin of São Francisco paleocontinent, displays an internal tectonic organization with two crustal scale thrust sheets (Andrelândia and Juiz de Fora); 2) the Oriental Terrane, comprises another crotonic block or microplate and includes the Rio Negro magmatic arc; 3) the Paraíba do Sul Terrane, which comprises the uppermost thrust slice of the central segment of the belt; and 4) the Cabo Frio Terrane, which occupies a restrict area at the coast of Rio de Janeiro State, records a late docking event. Within all the forementioned terranes, it can be identified three litho-tectonic units: pre-1.8 Ga basement units (orthognaisses and orthogranulites); 2) post-1.8 Ga supracrustal rocks; and 3) brasiliano granitoids and charnockitoids. Mantiqueira Complex comprises a great variety of tonalitic to granitic orthogneisses and minor orthoamphibolites. This unit comprises the basement rocks of the Andrelândia Megasequence within the Andrelândia tectonic domain. Lithogeochemical data of 68 samples, including orthogneisses and metabasites, indicate that the Mantiqueira Complex comprises two different series: calcalkaline series (intermediate to acid calcalkaline rocks); and transicional series (alkaline to tholeiitic basic rocks). Based on petrological criteria, quantitative analysis and [La/Yb]N values, it was possible to verify that the Mantiqueira Complex is heterogeneous and includes many petrogenetic groups. The transicional series comprises two groups: 1) tholeitic basic rocks, with [La/Yb]N between 2,13 and 4,72 (E-MORB and/or Intraplate type); and 2) alkaline basic rocks, with [La/Yb]N between 11,79 and 22,78. The calcalkaline rocks of the Mantiqueira Complex may be grouped into five different petrogenetic groups: 1) migmatitic quartz dioritic to tonalitic orthogneisses, with [La/Yb]N between 11,37 and 38,26; 2) banded quartz dioritic to granodioritic orthogneisses, with [La/Yb]N between 4,35 and 9,28; 3) tonalitic to granitic homogeneous orthogneisses, with [La/Yb]N between 16,57 and 38,59; 4) white tonalitic/trondhjemitic to granitic leucogneisses, with [La/Yb]N between 46,69 and 65,06; and 5) pinkish orthogneiss of tonalitic to granitic composition and [La/Yb]N between 82,70 and 171,36. U-Pb SHRIMP geocronological analysis were performed at the Research School of Earth Science (ANU/Canberra/Australia). Paleoproterozoic ages, interpreted as protoliths cristalization ages, were obtained for rocks from both the calcalkaline and transitional series. Obtained results display a range of cristalization ages from 2139 35 to 2143,4 9,4, to the rocks of the transitional series, and from 2126,4 8 to 2204,5 6,7, for those of the calcalkaline one. Among all studied rocks, only one (sample JF-CM-516 IV) yielded discordant archean zircons (292916 Ma), interpreted as inherited ones. However, evidences of archean zircons were obtained from zircons of other samples. All studied samples record a neoproterozoic metamorphic event in the interval from 548 17 Ma to 590,5 7,7 Ma, which is consistent with the M1 metamorphic event (from 550 to 590 Ma), contemporaneous to the main collision of the central segment of Ribeira Belt (collision between the Occidental and Oriental Terranes (Heilbron, 1993 e Heilbron et al., 1995).

O presente estudo pretende recuperar e reconstituir a evolução geológica relacionada a estes processos.
Abstract: The orthogneisses of the Ribeira Belt, in the Juiz de Fora area, were submitted to a sequence of geologic processes during times previous to Ett Brasiliano (tectono-thermal event), that generated this belt. The present study intends to recover and to reconstitute the geological evolution related to these processes. The units are distributed in two main tectonic domains (DTJF and DTAND) that were subdivided in three structural domains with specific characteristics. The metamorphic studies point to the existence of two high-grade metamorphic peaks associated to two different tectonic events. The last event is related to Ett Brasiliano, with ages around 610-490 Ma, and this affected the orthogneisses of the basement as well as Andrelândia Group supracrustal rocks, depositedbetween 1.0 and 0.6 Ga. The metamorphism reJated to the Ett Trans-Amazonian, dated at 2.2-1.9 Ga, affected only the basement orthogneisses. Peak P- T conditions for these event are considered to be 6-8 kb/750-8000C and 4-6kb/800-850°C respectively. The structures generated by Ett Brasiliano can be related to compressional tectonics of progressive nature, initially tangential with vergence of SE-NW, culminating with the formation of lenticular structures during the directional phase, of larger intensity. The analysis of pre-Brasiliano structures reveals pattems associated with low angle tectonics with related extensional shear zones. The fluid inclusions are typical of granulite facies, as they consist of 81 to 93% CO2 with moderate densities, varying between 0.79 and 0,.94 g/cm3, for the basement rocks; and 92 to 100% CO2, and moderate to high densities varying from 0.916 to 1.068 g/cm3 for the metasediments of DTJF. Chemical compositions of the orthogneisses in DTAND shows that these rocks can be assigned to two main sequences, holistic and calc-alkaline. It is possible that the rocks ofthe tholeiitic suite originated in intraplate environment, under lower crustal conditions, later on evolving to magmas enriched in incompatible elements. The proposed geological evolution involves extensional processes with magmatic intra and underplating, during Ett TransAmazonian, that provided COrrich fluids and the necessary heat for the granulite metamorphism. The [mal stage of the Ett Trans-Amazonian witnessed crustal thinning aided by erosion, which resulted in rifting of the upper crust and initiated intracratonic basin formation where Tiradentes, Lenheiro, Carandaí and Andrelândia Groups were deposited. After a long period of quiescence, compressive continental collision processes took place during the Ett Brasiliano and this juxtaposed the supracrustals and basement rocks. Intense anatetic processes in this period, removed large amounts of H2O from the system, enabling the met sediments to attain granulite facies

Full textDetailed geological mapping combined with structural, metamorphic, geochemical and geochronological analysis were carried out at the Bom Jardim de Minas(MG)- Barra do Piraí(RJ) geotransect, southeastern Brazil. These data led to a regional tectonic subdivision for the central segment of Late Proterozoic (Brasiliano-Panafrican) Ribeira Belt (FR). Imbricated from se to NW towards the southern and southeastern margin of São Francisco Craton (CSF), five tectonic domains were identified. From top to bottom, these are the following: a) The Paraíba do sul tectonic Domain (DTPS) is characterized by the Paraíba do Sul Group(GPS), a metasedimentary sequence with abundant carbonatic and calcsilicatic intercalations . This unit is intruded by calcalkaline granitoids with strong deformation ( SIQD - Quirino -Dorândia Intrusive Suíte). Orthogneisses and granulitic rocks probably constitute the basement of the GPS.b) The Juiz de for a Tectonic Domain (DTJF) represents a terrane of tectonic mixing between metasediments of the Middle Proterozoic Andrelândia Depositional Cycle (CDA) and Early Proterozoic to archaean orthogranulites of the Juiz de fora complex(CJF).c)The Andrelândia Allochthonous and Parautochthonous Tectonic Domains (DTAND and DTAP) are characterized by the CDA and basement rocks of the Mantiqueira Complex(a typical High Grade Terrain) and the barbacena Complex (low grade granite-Greenstone terrain).d) The Autochthonous Tectonic Domain (DTA),bordering the CSF, is composed of the Andrelândia (CDA), Lenheiro (CDL) and Tiradentes (CDT) metasedimentary depositional sequences. The latter two represent the rift pgase, and are separated in time from the Carandaí Transgressive period by an erosional extensional period, with mafic dike emplacement. After a new erosional interval with exposition of basement rocks, the CDA transgressive sequence was deposited. Basement rocks in the DTA are similar to those in the DTAP and DTAND tectonic domains.Thrust sheet stacking was achieved during \'D IND.1\' + \'D IND.2\' deformation, responsible for the generation of the most important structures detected along the geotransect, such as: ductile shear zones with reverse and dextral components, asymmetrical recumbent to inclined folds, a penetrative \'SIND2\' foliation (with mylonitic character in the DTJF), stretching and mineral lineations, sheath and tubular folds. Differences in style and intensity of \'D IND.1\' + \'D IND.2\' deformation are observed among the tectonic domains, and are attributed to different crustal levels. The geometrical analysis combined with the study of shear sense indicators allowed the following Kinematic interpretation, characteristic of an oblique collision: a) \'D IND.1\' to early- \'D IND.2\' phase- SE-NW compression produced thrusts, recumbent and sheath folds, refolding and incipient development of \'S IND.2\' foliation; b) syn-\'D IND.2\' phase - as the compression continued early structures are verticalized and the deformation evolved to component with dextral lateral movement. The basal thrusts of DTJF and DTPS are activated at this stage. The former domain concentrated the effects of deformation; c) Late -\'D IND.2\' - the direction of tectonic transport became progressively more oblique causing reactivation of thrusts with a dextral directional component, especially at the contact between DTPS and DTJF. At this moment the basal thrust of dtand is activated causing a metamorphic \"jump\" between this domain and the DTAP. Two metamorphic stages, probably continuous in time, were identified in the metasedimentary sequences: a) \'M IND.1\' stage resulted in parageneses of intermediate to high pressure, contemporary with the \'D IND 1\' + \'D IND.2\' deformation. The metamorphic grade increases to the south, from the Kyanite to the K-feldspar zones; and b) syn-\'D IND.3\' deformation \'M IND.2\' stage generated high temperature-low pressure parageneses with I and S type granitoid intrusions, especially located at antiformal structures . The \'M IND.1\' stage was probably associated with delamination and A-subduction of DTAND domain at the beginning of collision. The observed inverted metamorphic zonation emphasizes this interpretation. \'M IND.2\' represents the post-collisional stage, with higher temperature gradient and extensive melting of duplicated crust.A division of Juiz de Fora Complex in four magmatic series is proposed, based on lithogeochemical studies. The Medium and High K2O calcalkaline and the low TiO2 Tholeiitic series are similar to igneous rocks of modern cordilleran magmatic arcs. The High-TiO2 Tholeiitic series is enriched in LILE and specially in REE, characterizing an intraplate basaltic magmatism. Granulite facies metamorphism related to the Transamazonic tectono-Thermal event (early Proterozoic) affected all these series. Finally, an ensialic tectonic evolution is envisaged for the Andrelândia Basin: a) Thermal relaxation following the Transamazonic Event induces the formation of Middle Proterozoic sedimentary basins, inicially with a rift phase with mafic dykes (CDL e CDT), passing to an interior sag phase (CDC e CDA); b) Delamination and A-subduction, probably associated with underplating, start to operate. Basic and minor ultrabasic intrusions, possibly along with volcanoclastic sediments, all derived from mantle underplating, reflect the final and more unstable stage of the Andrelândia Basin; c) As the subduction of DTAND proceeds, crustal shortening and tectonic incorporation of basement rocks (\'D IND.1\'+ \'D IND.2\') are associated with the \'M IND.1\' metamorphic Stage (Brasiliano Event Ett-B); d) After collision, crustal duplication leads to extensive partial melting of CDA and its basement. The emplacement of I and S type granitoids and the syn-\'D IND.3 M IND.2\' metamorphic stage characterize this tectonic period (Late Brasiliano Event).

_______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
The southern portion of Ribeira Belt (FR) and its continental margin comprising the Santos Basin have a complex cnistal tectonics due to its several superimposed evolution stages. The investigation of the geological framework of such areas is a difficult task, and standard geological tools are often insufficient. The application of potential methods, such as gravimetry and magnetometry studies, subsidize the search for geophysical parameters that assist in the interpretation of features related to its evolution and thus form the cnistal framework of the investigated area. The main goal of this work refers to the use of techniques for processing, analyzing, and integrating magnetic and gravimetric data used in the characterization of the cnistal framework of the southern poition of Ribeira Belt. The techniques used include: (i) upward continuations at different depths, (ii) matched filtering, (iii) Euler deconvolution, and (iv) the technique developed by Raid et al. (1981). which evaluates Mohorovicic discontinuity from Bouguer anomaly. The results indicate that the NE stmcture comprises the main stmctural feature of Ribeira Belt, represented by a set of lineaments forming large shear zones systems predominantly of transcunent ductile character with orientation N60 70°E. They are anastomosed and responsible for producing regional features with macrostnictures similar to S-C defining tectonic blocks shaped as large sigmoids. They indicate predominantly dextral kinematics, propagate at depths below 16 km and represent major lithospheric discontinuities associated with sutures resulting from continental collision and collage of Brazilian age. The NW stmcturation is secondary, predominantly of brittle character and associates with thick dyke-swarms from an intense extensional process responsible for the tafrogenesis of Gondwana and. consequently, for the emergence of the Atlantic Ocean. This stmcture is responsible for defining the main lineaments that account for the delimitation of Ponta Grossa Arc. which is 120 km wide and has an expression in the superficial poition of the cnist predominantly with depths below 2 km. A cnistal thinning SE orientated, measuring about 38 km at the edge of Parana Basin, with mean values of 34 km at the southern portion of Ribeira Belt and crustal thickness of about 25 kin in the coastal portion of Santos Basin was identified. Data show a 2 kin crustal thinning in the NW-SE direction related to Ponta Grossa Arc (APG) and an estimated average crustal stretching of about 13 km. There are remarkable evidences of a lithosphere underplating, thereby constituting a volcanic passive margin, based on the results obtained, such as: (i) thinning of the continental crust. 13 km. towards the ocean, (ii) spectral interpretation of 84 km to the top of the asthenosphere. (iii) crustal thinning in the Ponta Grossa Arc region in relation to adjoining lands, followed by an extremely dense dyke intrusion representing an aborted ami of the Paraná Triple Junction. The structure observed in the Santos Basin indicates a direct correlation of these lineaments with the configuration of continental margin structures and thus suggests that regional gravimetric anomalies reflect the structural framework of Ribeira Belt. There is a zone of pronounced positive gravimetric anomalies, oriented in the N30E direction, interpreted as anomaly, which coincides with the genetic features known as Seaward Dipping Reflections (SDRs).

The granitoids of Cambuci Domain, situated between Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo states, were divided into four main groups: (1) Serra Bolivia Complex (CSB) - Heterogeneous Orthogranulites and Orthogneisses; Grey Fine grained Orthogneiss; and charnockites of Monte Verde Region (2) leucogranites / leucocharnockites gness of the São João do Paraíso Suite (SSJP) (3) Grey Foliated Granite (4) Isotropic Leucogranite. The CSB is characterized by type I calc character of magmatism, generate in volcanic arc environment (Monte Verde Suite) and crustal reworking (Leucocratic ortogranulites). The Fine grained Greenish, is considered in this research as the embasement rock for the Oriental Terrain, crystallized during the Paleoproterozoic - Riacian (2184.3 21 Ma) and recrystallized during in the metamorphic event in the Neoproterozoic - Edicarian (607.2 1.5 Ma), whose TDM age is 2936 Ma. The Medium grained Leucocratic Ortogranulite was crystallized in the Neoproterozoic - Edicarian (between 592 and 609 Ma) and its TDM age is ca. 2100 Ma, which features heritage record in the Paleoproterozoic. The Monte Verde Suite is characterized by a magmatism calcialcalin and the Córrego Fortaleza Suite, magmatism calc-alkaline high K, both show magmatic arc signature. Records two magmatic pulses in a sample (JP-RM-08A) in the Neoproterozoic - Edicaran: the first one in 592 2 Ma, and TDM age 1797 Ma, and the second one in 571.2 1.8 Ma (injecting a charnockitoids). For all CSB rocks, protomylonítics, Mylonitic and locally ultramilonítics features were portrayed. Geochemical data show these SSJP granitoids are the calc-alkaline series of high-K, crystallyzed in Neoproterozoic (ranging from 610.3 4.7 Ma to 592.2 1.3 Ma). TDM ages show outliers in two samples: 1918 Ma and 2415 Ma, suggesting that have been generated from different sources. The Gray Foliated Granite belongs to the shoshonitic series, type I and metaluminous and are intraplate granites. However, could have been formed into arc cordilheirano, with crustal contamination of other sources. This fact would be confirmed by the TDM ages calculated ≈ 1429 - 1446 Ma. The Isotropic Leucogranite occurs in the form of dykes, NW direction, has massive texture and is inequigranular. Geochemical data show these granitoids are metaluminous the type I shoshonitic series. They are intraplate granites. The Isotropic Leucogranite represents the post-collisional magmatism which took place between 80 and 90 Ma years after the collisional event in central sector of Ribeira Belt. It is crystallized in the Cambrian (512.3 3.3 Ma e 508.6 2.2 Ma) and TDM ages, ca. 1900 Ma

Full textThe Volta Redonda 1:50,000 quadrangle (Rio de Janeiro State, southeast Brazil) displays two rock sequences comprising the Paraíba do Sul Tectonic Domain (PSTD) or Upper Tectonic Domain, at the central segment of the Ribeira belt: the basal Quirino Unit, a Paleoproterozoic orthoderived suite, comprising granodioritic to granitic gneisses, with mafic and calc-silicate enclaves; and the Paraíba do Sul group, which includes metasedimentary biotite gneisses with concordant intercalations of holo-leucogranites layers (Três Barras Unit) and metapelites containing calc-silicate and sacaroidal marble lenses (São João Unit). Two granitoid suites intrude the Quirino Unit and the Paraíba do Sul group, with distinct timing of generation, in relation to the deformational and metamorphic events of the Brasiliano orogeny: the Rio Turvo S-type foliated granitoids, contemporaneous with the main metamorphic event (M1) of upper amphibolite facies, related to the main regional deformation (D1+D2). studied area. The other granitoid suite, represented by two mapped bodies, Getulândia and Fortaleza, post-dates the main deformational and metamorphic event, and is coeval with the second metamorphic event (M2), also of upper amphibolite facies, and related to the D3 deformation phase. The Paraíba do Sul shear zone, a D3 related megastructure, divides the PSTD in two sub-domains: the Northern Paraíba and the Southern Paraíba, The studied area is located in the latter. The Quirino Unit occurs as extensive bodies of homogeneous gneisses of upper amphibolite facies metamorphism, locally migmatitic, with hornblende and/or biotite, comprising approximately 50% of the studied area and ca. 70% of the PSTD. This unit yelds U-Pb zircon ages of 2169\'+ OU -\'3 and 2185\'+ OU -\'8 Ma, temporally related to the Transamazonian event. These ages are defined by upper discordia intercepts and were obtained from Quirino orthogneisses from the Northern and Southern Paraíba sub-domains, respectively. Minimum ages of 2846 and 2981 Ma, obtained on zircons from the Quirino Unit granodioritic gneisses at the Northern Paraíba subdomain, reveal the pre-existence of Archean crust as Pb source of part of the investigated gneisses. Geochemical studies of Quirino orthogneisses at the Southern Paraíba sub-domain discriminate two calc-alkaline series: one of medium to high-K (granodioritic gneisses) and the other one of high-K, with enrichment in LILE (granitic gneisses). These two series may have been generated in the same Transamazonian collisional event. The geochemical data suggest that the medium to high-K series represents the pre-collisional calc-alkaline magmatism and the high-K calc-alkaline series represents the post-collisional magmatism, generated in thickened crust. The Quirino Unit orthogneisses yield lower intercepts in concordia diagrams at 605\'+ ou -\'3 and 571\'+ OU -\'3 Ma. Dark sphene grains from granitic orthogneisses yielded maximum growth ages of 577\'+ OU -\'1 Ma. Sphene from leucosomes in mafic rocks from the Quirino Unit indicate partial fusion at 584\'+ OU -\'2 Ma. These data indicate reworking of the Quirino Unit rocks during the Brasiliano orogeny. Sphene from São João Unit calc-silicate rocks yields a 207Pb/206Pb minimum age of 590 Ma for the metamorphism of the Paraíba do Sul group. The first metamorphic event (M1), related to the Brasiliano orogeny, occurred between 590 and 570 Ma, with metamorphic peak between 577 and 584 Ma. During this time interval, U- Pb dating of monazite indicates the age of 579\'+ OU -\'2 Ma for the intrusion of the sin-collisional Rio Turvo granite. This granite is located in the Central Tectonic Domain of the Ribeira belt, which underlies the PSTD. Older U-Pb zircon ages of 605\'+ OU -\'3 Ma, given by the lower intercept of granitic gneisses, and of 604\'+ OU -\'1 Ma, of an equidimensional crystal from the same sample, may reflect the onset of metamorphic activity related to the initial stages of Brasiliano thrust stacking. The Taquaral granite, a batholithic intrusive body in the São João Unit at the Northern Paraíba sub-domain, had its emplacement during the time interval between M1 and M2 metamorphic events. The 207Pb/206Pb ages on sphenes from this granite (553 Ma), from the Quirino Unit granitic gneiss (563 Ma) and from the Rio Turvo granite (551 Ma), indicate continuous metamorphic activity between the main metamorphic events or, altenately, incomplete rehomogenization of the older sphene. The calc-alkaline to alkali-calcic late to post-tectonic plutonism, related to the Brasiliano orogeny, is dated by the U-Pb monazite ages of 535\'+ OU -\'1 and 528\'+ OU -\'1 Ma, from the Getulândia granite, supported by petrogenetic studies of this body and of the Fortaleza granite. The age of the second metamorphic event (M2) is given by the ages of recrystallization of sphene from the Quirino Unit orthogneisses at 535\'+ OU -\'2 Ma; from the recrystallization ages of leucossomes at 530\'+ OU -\'2 Ma; and by sphene growth at the leucossomes at 530\'+ OU -\'2 Ma, which are coeval with the intrusion of the Getulândia granite. The youngest age of 503\'+ OU -\'2 Ma, obtained on sphene from the granitic orthogneiss, reflects decrease of metamorphic activity, which is concordant with the 207Pb/206Pb age of sphene from the post-tectonic Mangaratiba granite (492\'+ OU -\'11 Ma.), located in the Costeiro complex. These young ages are related to post-metamorphic and post-kinematic stage of the Brasiliano orogeny at the central segment of the Ribeira belt.

Full textThe granitoids of the Ribeira Belt, southeastern São Paulo state, southeastern Brazil, are found as complex intrusions spread out uniformly in all structural-geologic \"domains\" of the São Paulo basement area. In our work, samples were studied from the Cantareira, São Roque and Itaqui batholiths, the Taipas and Tico-Tico plutons and the Perus tourmaline granites (São Roque Domain), the Itu batholith and the Terra Nova intrusion (Jundiai Domain), the Itaquera granite (Embu Domain), the Ilha Anchieta granite and the Ubatuba charnockite (Costal Domain). This study aims to unravel the pattern of petrogenetic evolution in the granitoids, with the help of geochemical determinations in rocks and zircon crystals. Quadrupole mass spectrometry with laser ablation (LA-Q-ICPMS) was applied to determine trace elements contained in zircons. Analytical data for reference materials (zircons 911500 and GJ-1) are presented in the chapter on Methodology. The lithogeochemical data show that the granites represent meta-aluminous to peraluminous lineages, with significant potash contents. Meta-aluminous samples (Cantareira, Itaqui, etc.) are high in Sr, also with high Sr/Y ratios and no Eu anomalies, representing magmas probably formed at considerable depth, implying garnet stability. The other granites were formed from magmas at lower pressures (stable plagioclase; negative Eu anomaly; low Sr contents). Zircons from these granites contain high REE, U and Th abundances. Normalized REE diagrams present positive Ce anomalies, generated in oxidizing environments. Zircons from Tico-Tico, Itu, Terra Nova, Ilha Anchieta, Itaquera, Perus and the Ubatuba charnockite are characterized by negative Eu anomalies, probably controlled by co-crystallization with plagioclase. The high REE and Y contents in zircons are explained by coupled xenotimetype reactions, with substitution of \'Si POT.4+\' by \'P POT.5+\' and \'Zr POT.4+\' by \'REE POT.3+\', \'Y POT.3+\'. The Ti-in-zircon geothermometer (\'T ANTPOT.zir\') yields, in general, temperatures comparable to the ones obtained with the saturation temperatures of zircons and apatites in magmas. Zircons showing reabsorbed cores and dark reflection areas under CL yield unrealistic temperatures above 1000°C, explained by anomalous uptake of Ti, together with high REE and P contents, on account of hydrothermal fluid activity, also responsible for transporting other HFSE (Ta, Nb, Mo). Dating results with the U-Pb technique in zircons show values between 580 and 603 Ma, 30 Ma younger than results previously published. Lu-Hf ratios suggest similarities for the protoliths of the São Roque and Itaquera granites, with a possible Paleoproterozoic source (~2.9 Ga) and with \'épsilon\'\'Hf of - 22.8, indicating protracted crustal residence time. TDM ages (Sm-Nd) lie between 2.2 and 12.5 Ga, possibly representing a crustal source associated with the São Francisco paleoplate. For the other granitoids (São Roque and Jundiai domains), a more radiogenic source has to be considered, given the \'épsilon\'\'Hf (-18 to -11) and \'épsilon\' Nd (-12 to -9) values. TDM ages, and the older ages obtained with U-Pb on cores of some zircons, point to a source constituted by juvenile continental crust affected by a volcanic event (rifting) at 1.75 Ga, within the tectonic plate, forced by continental opening, or even during events that occurred close to 2.1 Ga within the São Francisco craton.

Neste contexto, o Complexo Quirino é o embasamento retrabalhado do Terreno Paraíba do Sul (Heilbron et al., 2004).
The study area is part of the Ribeira Belt, Central Segment Mantiqueira Province (Almeida et al., 1973, 1977, 1981), which represents one of fold-thrust belt in neoproterozoic/cambrian generated during the Brasiliano Orogeny, at the edge south / southeast of the São Francisco Craton (Almeida, 1971, 1977, Cordani et al., 1967, 1973, Brito Neves & Cordani, 1982, Teixeira and Figueiredo, 1991). In this context, the Quirino Complex is the reworked basement of Paraiba do Sul Terrain (Heilbron et al., 2004). Quirino Complex is formed by extensive bodies of foliated orthogneisses the homogeneous, the leuco mesocratic, average particle size of the thick, compositionally ranging from tonalitic granitoids / granodioritic to granitic, and featuring enclaves of ultramafic, mafic and calcium silicate (rich in tremolite). The tonalite orthogneiss / granodioritic present porphyroblasts of plagioclase and hornblende as mafic main, contrasting with those of granitic composition showing porphyroblasts of K-feldspar and biotite predominates. Accessories appear as zircon, titanite, apatite and epidote. Also associated with these orthogneisses, neoproterozoic granitoids that make up individual bodies or lenses in the set anatetics paleoproterozoic. These are composed predominantly of biotite gneiss and hornblende-biotite gneiss. Lithogeochemical analysis of orthogneiss from Quirino Complex suggest the existence of two distinct magmatic series. The first belongs to the high-K calc-alkaline series composition shows a more expanded granitic-adamelític/granodioritic/tonalitic and is correlated to some orthogneisses and bt-hb-bt-orthogneiss. The medium-K orthogneisses series feature predominantly tonalitic composition, and correlated to most of the hornblende-biotite gneiss. Lenses enclaves metapiroxenitics and amphibolites occur in many outcrops. Neoproterozoic granitoids also occur composition of granitic to quartz-monzonitic. The isotopic study of Sm-Nd and Sr showed that the high-K calc-alkaline series orthogneisses and those of medium-K calc-alkaline series, have TDM model ages ranging from Archean to Paleoproterozoic, consistent with U-Pb data zircon from the literature. The high-K calc-alkaline series is older (2308 9.2 Ma to 2185 8 Ma) than medium-K calc-alkaline series (2169 3 to 2136 14 Ma) and occurs the existence of zircons inherited with minimum ages of 2846 Ma and 2981 Ma for medium-K series and 3388 16 for high-K series. The brasiliano granitoids have neoproterozoic crystallization ages correlated to Brasiliano Orogeny (602-627 Ma) (Viana, 2008, Valladares et al., 2002). Based on data of Sr and Sm-Nd was possible to identify four distinct groups. Groups 1 and 2 are formed by rocks of Paleoproterozoic (2.1 to 2.3 Ga) TDM model ages ranging from 2.9 to 3.4 Ga, εNd between -8.1 and -5.8 and 87Sr / 86Sr ratios (t) = 0.694707 (Group 1) and TDM ranging from 2.5 to 2.7 Ga, εNd between -5.8 and -3.1 and 87Sr/86Sr (t) = 0.680824 (Group 2), formed with the assistance of a Paleoproterozoic Archean. The third group consists of Paleoproterozoic juvenile rocks with crystallization ages ranging between 2.0 and 2.2 Ga and TDM model ages ranging from + 2.1 to + 2.2 Ga and εNd between +1.5 and +1.2. Group 4 is formed during the Neoproterozoic (645 Ma) of rocks with Paleoproterozoic age possibly TDM model ages exceeding 1.7 Ga and εNd= -8.3.

The Bocaina Ridge landscape is strongly controlled by both ductile and brittle structures related to the Ribeira Belt (Brasiliano Orogeny ca. 790-480Ma) and also to the mesozoic-cenozoic reactivations. The rocks were subdivided in four tectonic terrains accreted in the brasiliano collisional stages. The most prominent structures related to these collisions are: NW dipping foliation, NE-SW ductile shear zones, and folds. NW ductile-brittle shear zones represent the orogenic collapse stage. The South Atlantic opening (ca.135-120 Ma) is registered in NNE and ENE tholeitic dike swarms, partly conditioned by brasiliano structures. In the Bocaina Plateau one apatite fission track age (AFT) of ca.145Ma represents pre-rift Gondwana cooling. The continental margin uplift associated to the rift phase might have raised this level out of the AFT partial annealing zone. Neocretaceous reactivation (ca. 85Ma) was AFT dated both in the coast and the atlantic scarp, pointing out to a newer continental margin denudation and uplift pulse. This reactivation is in accordance with the Santos basin significant siliciclastic sedimentation. In paleogene times, the Southeastern Brazil Continental Rift System (SBCR) development was responsible for: the reactivation of the Ribeira Belt NE ductile structures, NW and E-W faulting and fracturing, and NE fracturing in Ilha Grande Bay. The tectonic boundary between Paraíba do Sul and Embu Terrains is the main reactivation zone in the Bocaina Ridge. AFT ages of ca. 55 Ma register the initial stage of the SBCR, which produced base level lowering and the formation of an inland scarp. The Bocaina Ridge seems to constitute an elevated region since the development of the Ribeira Cordillera, increased by the South Atlantic rift and post-rift uplifts and also by the SBCR.

Full textOBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to verify the associations between energy expenditure (Kcal), anthropometric profile (body mass index (BMI) and waist to hip ratio (WHR), socioeconomic status (education degrees and income per capita) and age of women (aged 40-64 years) registered in the Family Health Program. METHODS: A sample of 147 women answered a domiciliary inquiry, with the aim of evaluating the energy expenditure and the socioeconomic status. After that they were submitted to the anthropometric measures. Except for the energy expenditure, the other variables were categorized to process the test of Kruskal-Wallis, adopting a level of significance of 5% (α=0.05) to take the decision. RESULTS: The energy expenditure presented direct relation to BMI (p=0.0001) and inverse to the education degrees (p=0.0407) and the age (p=0.0417), but no correlation was observed to the WHR (p=0.1288) and per capita income (p=0.1984). Correlations between BMI and income per capita (p=0.8263), education degree (p=0.1326) and age (p=0.7423) were not found. In the evaluation of the WHR, we observed an inverse relation to the income per capita (p=0.0163), and no relation with the age (p=0.5985). Although there is statistic difference (p=0.0126) in relation to the education degrees, the results are in discordance with the literature. CONCLUSION: The women presented high prevalence of sedentarism (57.8%), overweight (31.3%) and obesity (36.0%). They have inadequate WHR and low socioeconomic level. These results should be argued in the Family Health Program with the aim of promoting health public politics to revert this situation.

The São Fidelis region is located north of Rio de Janeiro (SE Brazil) and is part of the central zone of Ribeira Belt, a Neoproterozoic Ordovicic mobile belt. This thesis presents data obtained with several techniques with the purpose of characterizing the evolution of the granulites present in the area and, in this way, to constrain the geodynamic evolution of the Ribeira Belt, formed in the final stages of the Braziliano Cycle as the result of the collision between the São Francisco and Congo cratons in the Western Gondwana mega-continent amalgamation context. Results show that after the collision at 630-610Ma, granulitic metamorphism (T~850ºC; P~8kbar), coeval with high-temperature thrusts (as the result of the formation of a mega flower structure), widespread migmatization of supracrustal rocks and granitoid production, was attained at ~565Ma, and the cooling that followed was faster for the rocks closer to the centre of the flower structure (3 10ºC/Ma) than for those present in the lateral ramps (~1ºC/Ma). A thermal anomaly, probably resultant of asthenospheric upwelling and underplating (in a post-collisional extension context), allowed, aided by the long-term sub-horizontal transpressive deformation period that followed, a very slow cooling and preservation of T>650ºC for some granulites during ~100Ma. After the long-term transpressive period (at 510 480Ma), cooling rates increased rapidly (8 30ºC/Ma) by faster exhumation due to thermo-tectonic relaxation and orogenic collapse. The thermochronologic evolution of the studied area suggests a long-term maintenance of high-thermal flux, that conditioned the evolution of this crustal segment physical conditions (T, P, O2, aH2O), as well as, the petrological and geochemical features dependent. The long-term thermal anomaly that lasted ~100Ma may have led to extensive lower crust dehydration and widespread formation of charnockites in the Ribeira Belt.
