This study aimed to understand the psychosocial effects of temporary infertility by stress in women. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study with qualitative and exploratory approach. The approach used in this study included conducting interviews with ten women who had proven diagnosis of temporary infertility by stress, the analysis of the interviews was based on the perspective of Grounded Theory. After transcription and subsequent analysis of the interviews, explanatory categories that emerged from the speeches of the interviewees were: No biological problems, undiagnosed; Impacts on social relationships; Impacts on the marital relationship; and the dream realized and future action. The results showed that the numbers of years of infertility treatment more positively also negatively influenced the lives of these women generating psychosocial stress. This study allowed the understanding of the psychosocial effects of temporary infertility by stress in women, which may contribute to work teams in developing strategies to support these, however there is the consistent data literature related to the subject, even in modern times whose infertility problem already set as a public health problem with increasing incidence in the world population.

Full textThis study analyzes the narratives of 38 married, heterosexual, infertile adoptive parents. It asks how parents use narrative to reconcile a presumed reluctance to adopt with presumed satisfaction with adoption, and if there are differences in the narratives of men and women.
Qualitative analysis reveals that participants place recollections of suffering within redemptive sequences, reinterpreting difficult experiences as leading to personal growth and transformation, which in turn leads to greater connection with others. A majority of participants find profound retrospective meaning in a belief in fate and describe a greater appreciation for their children and for life itself as a result of their experiences.
Women were identified as the protagonists of the stories in the majority of cases by both husband and wife. When women were the protagonists men tended to worry about their wives, view her suffering and her path to motherhood as central to the story, and to easily give up control of the adoption process. When men were the protagonist or couples viewed themselves as equal protagonists, the process involved both partners.
The only theme that participants had a difficult time interpreting was that of race. Pals' (2006) transformational processing model was adapted to rate participants' sense of resolution regarding race. For same-race adopters resolution was associated with placing desire for a same-race child in a broader belief system, while for transracial adopters it was associated with comfort with the community of the child's birth, a belief that one could grow into dealing with race, and a belief in fate. Unresolved same-race adopters felt judged, experienced identity threat, and were inarticulate about race. One group of unresolved transracial adopters paid little attention to race at the time of adoption and later struggled with it, while another group had difficulty discussing race at all, minimized its importance, and often contradicted themselves.
The narratives are analyzed in the context of white racial experience in the United States and to discover the personal, cultural and ecological factors that contribute to a person's ability to engage in autobiographical reasoning (Habermas & Bluck, 2000) and tell a "good story" (McAdams, 2008).

Full textThe AZFc region on the Y chromosome long arm is one of the most unstable regions in the human genome. It consists almost entirely of very long repeats, is prone to rearrangement and some of them have been reported to be associated with male infertility. We screened two populations: 344 infertile patients and 136 controls for AZFc microrearrangements and we observed a high frequency of genomic rearrangements with similar frequency of deletions and duplications in both populations. Rearrangements were then characterized using DAZ and CDY 1 genes analyses and Y chromosome haplogroup determination. We also studied DAZ gene family expression by "real time" quantitative RT-PCR [reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction] from 30 testicular biopsies presenting distinct histological pictures. Different expression profiles were obtained according to the gene tested and the fertility status

This dissertation aims to evidence the assisted reproduction like a way of maintaining "traditional" relationships of the modern nuclear family, centered on love, on affection, on idea of the couple’s "plan", which connects parents to their children, and in blood and family name categories. The research, conducted in 2017 and 2018, in the small town of Marechal Cândido Rondon / PR, focused on the lived experience by eight women ando ne man who used technological reproductive methods such as the artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization. These methods operate aggressively in their bodies of these women by intensive use of medicalization, but does not question how the techniques are disclosed and marketed. As a methodological strategy, in addition to analytical and bibliographic references about the subject, the construction of data was done through unstructured interviews and other sources obtained on websites and social networks like the facebook. The argument is that, for these women and their families, the Assisted Reproduction "corrects" the infertility and yours stigmatizing effects and, above all, leads to the realization of the biogenetic parental project, reinforcing the family nucleus composed by father, mother and biological child.
Full textIntroduction: The p63 gene is the most ancient member of the components of p53 family and is described as the responsible for maintaining of genic integrity and cell cycle regulation in immature germ cells. However, there are no reports in the literature evaluating its expression in granulosa cells luteinized. Endometriosis is a chronic disease that is associated with infertility. Several mechanisms have been proposed to explain this association, but so far, none of them is considered definitive. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the expression of the p63 gene and protein in granulosa luteinized cells of infertile patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). Also, we checked whether patients with endometriosis have abnormal function of p63. Methods: We performed a prospective cross-sectional study. We collected granulosa cells of 28 patients undergoing IVF to evaluate p63 expression. Then, to study the effect on endometriosis, they were divided into two groups: (1) study group (n = 9): patients with laparoscopic diagnosis of endometriosis and (2) control group (n = 19): infertile patients for other reasons, without endometriosis . The collected cells were prepared and analyzed for gene expression (real time PCR) and protein expression (immunofluorescence). The results were compared between the groups. Results: There was no significant difference in expression of the p63 gene between the groups. The median of 2-ΔΔCT in the the control group was 0.93 (95% CI, 0.55 to 2.83) and 0.88 in the study group (95% CI, 0.24 to 2.84). The results also showed that the p63 gene is not expressed in granulosa cells in both groups. About to the p63 protein expression, immunofluorescence showed no expression in either group. Conclusion: The p63 gene and protein can be very important in maintaining the genic integrity of immature reserve follicles, not dependent of FSH. However, after the recruitment and follicular growth is not more observed its expression, suggesting that p63 is not part of control of oocyte maturation and development.

Full textThe social context surrounding reproduction and the desire for children in the West has undergone a profound transformation in recent decades. Following the introduction of contraception and the increase in the number of children born out of wedlock, the development of new reproductive technologies and adoption, particularly international adoption, has in turn contributed to transforming the frameworks surrounding kinship and the formation of families. Based on the testimonials of Québec couples whose successive failures in medically assisted procreation (MAP) have led them to the decision to adopt, this thesis examines the multiple dimensions involved in this type of trajectory. Socially, both AR and adoption require the intervention of a third party to establish and legitimize filiation: the medical profession in the case of AR, and legal and government authorities in the case of adoption. Both phenomena also put into play situations and issues that are highly revealing of values and collective representations regarding kinship and the family. At first glance, the type of path studied seems to illustrate a transition between two completely separate spheres: that of nature and biology embodied by AR, and that of culture and social relations embodied by adoption. However, the study of the participants’ trajectories reveals a much more complex situation in which a set of explanations and factors related to the desire for children, the family, and parenthood intertwine and make sense only when viewed in the context of the major social and ideological trends that our society is undergoing. More generally, the analyses proposed in this thesis contribute to the development of an anthropology of kinship that accounts for the dynamics and tensions that affect the modern family.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to investigate of the essence of family stress experience of patients who were hospitalized for to infertility therapy with severe Ovarian Hyperstimulation Symdrome(OHSS).This study was based on the family systems theory(Montgomery & Fewer,1988)and contextual model of family stress (Boss,1988), and used the Colaizzi’s phenomenological approach to investigate family stress experience from couple’s perspectives. The subjects were purposely chosen from a medical center in Taipei .The criteria for choosing the cases were:women who received infertility therapy with severe Ovarian Hyperstimulation Symdrome;the infertility couple without any physio-psychological problems; The sample sizes were determined by the saturation principle of phenomenology. No new theme were emerged after the 10 couples interview data was analyzed. The research tools included the demographic character of the case’s general information and semi-structured interview guideline .The interviewed date were analyzed by the Colaizzi’s phenomenological approach. The trustworthness were examined by Lincoln & Guba(1985)principles. The result of this study showed that the family stress experience included 6 dimensions:(1)infertility stress(2)physio-psychological stress for infertility therapy(3)family life disturbance (4)social isolation (5)coping pattens toward family balance(6)The experience of disclosure of pregnant result . These findings provides a scientific knowledge base for family nursing is regarding to release their family stress and promote family health. Key words:infertility theraphy, severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, family stress experience, phenomenology.

Full textThis research deals with the structuring, empirical testing and finalising of a model for the evaluation of the degree to which adoptive parents have accepted their infertility. The practice model provides guidelines for the assessment of the extent of acceptance of infertility on the part of prospective adoptive parents. Guidelines are also given for the provision of assistance to infertile couples within the boundaries of social care. This study does not pretend to provide the ultimate solution to the question of evaluation, but serves only as a social work orientated set of guidelines for evaluation ...
Stacey, Bryony. "The impact of infertility on psychological well-being in South African women : a quantitative study." Thesis, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10530/60.
Full textThe purpose of this study was to investigate the psychological impact of infertility on well-being. This study has been contextualized within the broader public health paradigm which re-establishes a balanced view of both illness prevention and health promotion. This study was conducted in the Durban area of Kwa-Zulu Natal. The nature of the research is concerned with the emotional experience of infertile women with regard to positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, purpose in life and self-acceptance. Date was collected as a quantitative component using Ryffs 3-item Psychological Weil-Being Scale (PWB). Fifty-six women who had been diagnosed with infertility and who were undergoing fertility treatment participated in the study (n=56). The age of the participants was between twenty-nine and fifty-five years. Ninety-eight percent (98.2%) of the participants resided in the cities of KwaZulu-Natal, while less than two percent (1.8%) were rural dwellers. Approximately sixty-six percent (66.1%) of the participants were from nuclear families, while approximately thirty-three percent (33.9%) came from extended families. Conclusion and recommendations for future research Statistical analysis revealed that the overall results were statistically non-significant. The correlation between self-acceptance and duration of infertility revealed the only significant result in this study (p=0.004), highlighting the emotions of dissatisfaction and disappointment with self as a result of prolonged fertility difficulties. The correlation between purpose in life and duration of infertility in years showed to be approaching statistical significance (p=0.021). Disappointment and loss of hope seem to be the products of continued failed attempts of conceiving. This is seen as causing severe insult to self-assessed femininity, as well as further stress, anxiety and depression (Domar, 2004). It is recommended that studies of this nature should include a larger sample, specifically from the rural area, as well divide the sample into racial groups and consider a control group. This is likely to yield more accurate and valid findings. A further recommendation would be to examine the participants' belief systems and explore alternate treatment modalities targeting infertility. Possible limitations of the study Only patients diagnosed with infertility, mostly from the city, participated in the study. The sample size was also not large enough to generalize the findings and offer an accurate representation of the population. The nature of questionnaire required that participants answer several questions pertaining to sensitive personal issues, which may have caused participants to answer in a more socially desirable manner, causing possible inaccuracy in findings.
