Background and Objectives: Virtual interviews (VI) for residency programs present a relatively new paradigm for recruitment. To date, studies have been small, largely descriptive, and focused on surgical and subspecialty areas. The purpose of the study was to assess residents’ perceptions about their VI experience and to compare those in primary care versus non-primary care specialties. Methods: An electronic survey was sent to 35 designated institutional officials in Illinois with a resulting snowball sample to assess first-year residents’ perceptions of their virtual interviewing experience.

American jurisprudence currently applies two incompatible validity standards to determine which laws are enforceable. The natural law tradition evaluates validity by an uncertain standard of divine law, and its methodology relies on contradictory views of human reason. Legal positivism, on the other hand, relies on a methodology that commits the analytic fallacy, separates law from its application, and produces an incomplete model of law. These incompatible standards have created a schism in American jurisprudence that impairs the delivery of justice. This dissertation therefore formulates a

This high nickel alloy performed quite well on WTE waterwall boiler tubes. However, the performance of WTE superheaters overlaid with alloy 625 was not acceptable. In early 2021, Parents as Allies (PAA) began a journey of collaborating with school teams in a design sprint process to develop creative and innovative solutions, or “hacks” that would address the specific needs of their communities. Their initial, two-month design sprint in 2021 centred around the question: “How might we build stronger engagement between families and schools for the benefit of all students?” Almost one year later, in April 2022, PAA began a second iteration. Parents as Allies 2.0 narrowed its focus to 22 Western Pennsylvania school districts. Joined by design sprint guides, t

We present estimates of intergenerational earnings persistence (IEP) in New Zealand using linked administrative data. We assemble a dataset of around 288,000 individuals born between 1986 and 1992 and link them to their parents using data from various administrative datasets, 2013 and 2018 Censuses, and household surveys. We examine inter-generational persistence in outcomes including income source and access to employment. For around 198,000 cases where both parents and children are actively participating in the labour market (defined as earning wages and salaries for more than 6 months a yea

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have transformed family life in Canada. With the closure of schools, daycares, restaurants and many businesses, as well as major job losses and new work-from-home measures, many parents and children are spending a lot more time together. So how do families feel about life after the pandemic? Six weeks of data from the Vanier Institute of the Family, the Association for Canadian Studies and Leger show that families with children are not ready to send them back to school this year, but parents are ready to go back to their workplaces after the pandemic, among o

Cohabitation prior to marriage has become a normative pathway to marriage in the U.S. This profile examines shifts in the percentage of women who cohabited before marriage over the past 50 years, according to marriage cohorts. We report published results, use the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) to estimate the share of women who cohabited prior to marriage in each cohort, and analyze a recent marriage cohort (2020-2022). We document premarital cohabitation trends by educational attainment and age at marriage. All estimates are based on weighted analyses, and an age restriction of 19 to

In 1997, the Mexican government designed the conditional cash transfer program Progresa, which became the worldwide model of a new approach to social programs, simultaneously targeting human capital accumulation and poverty reduction. A large literature has documented the short and medium-term impacts of the Mexican program and its successors in other countries. Using Progresas experimental evaluation design originally rolled out in 1997-2000, and a tracking survey conducted 20 years later, this paper studies the differential long-term impacts of exposure to Progresa.
